Women’s Gymnastics captured the top spots for the most-watched moments on Day 4 of the Olympic Games. McKayla Maroney came to London so she could dominate the vault. Last night, Maroney performed one of the most difficult and dangerous vaults and stuck a perfect landing, which landed her in first place on the TiVo Top Moments. Another highlight for American audiences was watching Russian gymnast, Anastasia Grishina, lose her balance while performing in the team artistic event. Americans gloated over the Russian team being brought to tears. Finally, between Maroney’s Continue Reading
Well here's hoping they have tham in my market!
My old tivo has quite a lot of saved shows on it. I own the unit.
If and when I get the new TIVO will the installer do anything to the old unit to dissable the ability to view the saved content?
Need to know if I start "burning" like a mad man.
Just installed a TIVO premiere with my optimum cable card here in Brooklyn NY and I was wondering what a good signal strength is for channels?
I did a few tests on a regular broadcast network, a cable channel, and then a premium channel.
My results were basically in the 77-89 range for the three. Is that ok or should results always be in the high 90's?
I haven't had a chance to watch yet, because I've been watching The Olympics -- but wanted to get the thread started anyhow.
If this turns out to be an all-season thread, I have a request. Could the first person to post about a new episode post something in the thread title to delineate each week's discussion?
Also, if you're coming along later in the run, and you're talking about an early episode, it can help to make a brief mention somewhere to say which episode you've just watched.

I've had an SVR-3000 with lifetime for many years (my first Tivo), but it has just died. That is, the hard drive appears dead; I cannot talk to it using various utilities, and it does not make the power-up sounds I am used to hearing. (My original 80 hour drive died about 5 years ago, at which time I upgraded to a 1 TB using InstantCake.) Instead of buying a new drive, I am considering buying a new Tivo Premier XL (150 hour unit), but have a few questions:
1. Can I qualify for MSD, in order to get lifetime on the new unit for $399, if the old SVR-3000 can no longer "talk" to Tivo HQ anymore? Does it need to check in every now and then?
2. The Tivo website offers me an "Upgrade Program" price of $249 on the XL, but it seems their regular price on the XL is the same. Am I missing something?
3. The best price I see for an XL is on Amazon for around $207 (also saving me tax). Is there a better deal?
4. If I decide to cancel my cable and go OTA at some point, I can still use the XL to record OTA shows? How will it know which OTA channels I receive -- do I tell it manually?
5. Any other considerations I am missing?
(As background, which isn't really relevant: my family has been living on Comcast analog-only cable all this time. My wife and kids have been asking for an upgrade to Comcast digital service for quite some time, so that we can get more channels, but I have resisted, because I am cheap, and irrationally hate the idea of getting a cable box. (So idea of using a cable box along with a Tivo IR blaster is too inelegant for me to bear.) So now I am willing to join the rest of society and fork over more cash to Comcast in exchange for more channels, in digital, while getting a new Tivo that can use a cable card and therefore stay cable box-free. And now in the Bay Area Comcast is allowing digital Tivos to do fun new things. An alternative to Comcast (which I hate) would be to cut the cord and go with OTA & Roku, or OTA & Premier, or all three. The kids want PBS Kids (which they already have), Cartoon Network, Sprout, and Nickelodeon, but might be happy if money to be spent on Comcast instead got spent purchasing specific shows they want via Apple TV or Amazon. The wife wants ESPN, which is only available via cable. Spending $399 for lifetime plus $200+ for the unit just because of a dead SVR-3000 hard drive seems severe, but on the other hand this is a long-overdue upgrade and would maintain family harmony. And alternatively buying a Roku box and an antenna and perhaps an Apple TV (if we want our content to be purchased through iTunes) and paying for Hulu Plus and maybe even Netflix too starts to add up. So I think the XL plus digital Comcast is the way to go. So paying $600+ for the XL rather than just $100 for another 1 TB drive for the SVR-3000 seems like the way to go.)
Thanks so much for all your help! This forum has always been a source of great information over the years!
Oh my! I did not see that coming. Well, I did right when she entered the room and started talking to her, but not before that.
Those screams were very jarring as was the door slamming shut at the end.
Aly Raisman’s parents are officially internet-famous. Joining the ranks of Laughing Baby, and Double Rainbow guy, their adorably intense reaction to one of Aly’s Olympic gymnastics routines is making the rounds online – sweeping up YouTube views and hitting sports news sections from the LA Times to USA Today. The clip shows Aly’s parents rocking and rolling along to their daughter’s uneven bars routine as if they were flying through the air themselves. The made-for-TV-moment didn’t just steal hearts online – Aly’s parent’s hilarious reaction was the number one top-watched Continue Reading
I just put up my Tivo Elite on Ebay. The auction will not be live until 9PM central time tonight 7/31/12. This Tivo only has been used about a week. Does not work good with Time Warner Cable and the tuning adapter/cable card setup here in the Dallas area so I gave up. This was the 3rd Elite model that I tried, thats why it was only used a week. Auction starts at 99 cents. If you have any questions about this please ask me. I'll check this thread and also you can message me on Ebay as well, or PM me.
There is no service on this Tivo so you will have to get your own service.
Heres the link:
It may not show up for you until tonight when the auction goes live. Thanks :)
The last 2 days the picture of item has been much larger, usually when this happens I have inadvertently reduced number of items per page not this time at 50 if I bump up to 100 still same size just 100 of them. Anyone else notice this, or did I change some other setting by accident?
My parents saved a show on their old TiVo, which they no longer use. We'd like to watch that show on my TV. Unfortunately, they lost the remote. Is there any way to control the TiVo without a remote to watch that one show?
I tried the Glo remote with my Master Bedoom LED TV and that did not work well.
Then I purchased a Xantech IR extender and while that's a little better it still did not work well.
Is there an recommended RF remote that would solve my issue with lagging and slow response?
Please let me know. Thanks.
I've had a DirecTV HR21 connected to my LG 3D TV and whenever I switch to one of the 3D channels, the TV automatically switches into the correct mode and then back when I go back to a regular channel. When I try the same thing with the XL4 using the T-W 3D Olympics channel, the TV does not detect it and I need to manually put it into the correct 3D mode and same when I leave the channel.
Now the carrier is different, as is the channel and DVR so I'm not sure where the issue is. Does anyone else have 3D mode switching issues?
Sorry, meant to post this in the Premiere section.
I've searched around for posts on the infamous S03 error but haven't found anything that really points out how they come about. I'm asking because I just picked up a lifetimed TCD540 cheap where the owner had the error, got a pre-imaged replacement drive, and then got the error again within 3 months. I verified the error when I first got the box, pulled the drive and ran the WD long test (passed), then re-imaged the drive. After that it worked fine but who knows for how long. I also checked the caps in the power supply and they look ok. Is there some sequence of events that can corrupt the database on an otherwise good drive during daily downloads?
I have a 6 year old series 3 with lifetime that is freezing/pixelating on HD channels. Seems to work fine on SD channels. It also freezes at times on Tivo Central and the only way to get it to sometimes work again is a reboot.
I also have access to a TiVo Premiere. Can I swap power supplies and hard drives between the two units to see which is my problem or aren't they compatible? I understand I will lose everything on the new hard drive but it has never been used anyway.
Remember how cool it was when digital cable first came out, and you got like 10 different channels each of HBO and Showtime?
Well, apparently Comcast thinks that's over. In our market (and I think this is a national trend), the four premium packages will include a) 4 channels of HBO (main, main west, 2, and signature), b) 2 channels of Cinemax, c) only the main channel of Showtime, and d) only the main channel of Starz. This is effective August 23.
Of course, the packages will still include the On Demand libraries from these services. I guess Comcast thinks that people will still pay $15-$20 / month just for the VOD access and the main channel, and they can free up bandwidth for something else.
TiVo needs to get me XFinity On Demand access soon.
Swimming finals dominated the most-watched moments during day 3 of the London Olympic Games, followed by men’s gymnastics. John Orozco’s pommel horse woes were perhaps the lowest moment for the USA Men’s Gymnastics Team and landed Orozco in the day’s TiVo Top Moments. Another disappointment for Team USA was John Lochte’s fourth-place finish in the 200m freestyle, missing the podium by a tenth of a second. However, not all TiVo Top Moments from day 3 were low points for Team USA: Missy Franklin’s performance in the women’s 100m backstroke – less Continue Reading
I've always had some issues with Netflix and Tivo Transfer with my two Series 3 Tivos. The Netflix would lock up sometimes or the online menus on the Tivo would be slow. I've considered using a powerline system, but they were kind of expensive.
I bought the Actiontec Plug Av 200 Mbps adapter kit, and I am amazed. It was $50 on Amazon, but it is worth the extra speed without having to run internet cable throughout my house. I wish I had done this sooner. I know they don't work for everyone, but they worked for me right out of the box.
I could never watch a program right away that was transferring from another Tivo, but I can now. The amazing thing is only one of my Tivos is hooked up to the powerline; the other uses wireless still. I'll probably get an adapter for that one as well.
Ok i'm not sure exactly where to ask this so here goes...
I'm going on a trip and thinking about buying and Ipad (the newest version) because what i'd like to do is transfer several movies to watch as i travel on this ipad and i'm not sure if i can do that and how? Is that a Tivo2Go function? How would i hook up the ipad to my tivo or pc to transfer the files?
I'm thinking i'd get the 32 or 64 gig model but how big in gigs is an average 1 hour show? Do you have any links to specific info? thanks:)
oh i have a premiere tivo and also can i record netfilx movies to the tivo or ipad?
