Tivo HD and netflix, hanging?

TiVoCommunity Forum Recent Threads - Thu, 06/07/2012 - 09:20
I've got a Tivo HD that's been working great. Lately it's been hanging up but only after playing about 3 or 4 netflix streams. Basically, my son likes to watch a couple of episodes of Spiderman. Upon trying to watch a 3rd episode the stream never starts. If I back out and try another two the same thing happens, the stream doesn't start. If I back out and try to just play a recorded program (not netflix) then the whole Tivo hangs for about 5 minutes. After which it comes back to life normally (without having rebooted). I can even go back into the Netflix client and play one of the previously non-starting episodes.

It seems like the Netflix client is somehow causing a problem that takes a while for the Tivo to eliminate.

Anyone else had this problem?

Xfinity on Demand with an Xbox360 & Series 2 TiVo

TiVoCommunity Forum Recent Threads - Wed, 06/06/2012 - 23:25
Ok, this might be EXTREME wishful thinking & really grasping at straws, but thought I would investigate. I was wondering if there could be a way to make a Series 2 (DT) work with an Xbox 360.

Here is my situation and why; I was looking to possibly get an Xbox360 for several main reasons; gaming machine, Netflix box and access to Xfinity OnDemand services with Comcast. I also have a Series 2 DT (lifetime) in my basement rec room that is basically hooked up to just an old school 36" Panasonic CRT screen and controlling a Comcast DTA box. This is probably the area where the Xbox 360 would go as well.

Now, since Comcast is about to require some sort of hardware (cable card, digital box, DTA) for all programming, I just went ahead & made my Series 2 a single tuner DVR (controlling a DTA). It works well for the most part, but it made me wonder if I could then somehow hook up the Xbox 360 RCA outputs to the Series 2 RCA inputs (currently turned off).

Go through the Guided setup again and then basically make the Xbox 360 the 2nd tuner for the Series 2. I could manually record OnDemand material from the Xbox360 to the Series 2. Then I could MRV its material to one of my main TiVos on the main level of the house (2 Premieres). Anybody ever try this?

I had sort of did something similar when I had a full digital box hooked up to this Series 2 (but have turned it back into Comcast). Was able to manually record OnDemand material to Series 2 and MRVed it to my S3 & S4 TiVos. It worked so wondering if it could work with a Xbox360. In theory, it seems like it should.

Can I use a tivo 3 to mutltiroom view without services?

TiVoCommunity Forum Recent Threads - Wed, 06/06/2012 - 22:43
If I get myself a new Tivo Premiere with active service, can I use my current Tivo3 to do multi room viewing without having service on the Tivo3?

Does multi room viewing require that both boxes have active service?

Help! Tivo with no TV

Hi guys, I bought a tivo in the UK when they first came out, I thought it was fantastic, then I moved to France so lost the tivo service and haven't touched it since.

My question: I see lots of tivo's for sale on ebay UK, I just wondered if there was a system to use tivi through the net? there is no UK TV here, well you can get it via satellite but officially you are not supposed to.

What other ways could I use a tivo? could I connect it to my TV and my PC network and watch things downloaded on my TV?

any help would be appreciated.

The Glee Project-Season 2-Spoilers to Date

Anyone watching the new season?

I am sorry they sent Maxfield home-that Tyler kid has a bad attitude-"I'm slipping - I'm gonna fall - I don't like this song..."
Some of the mentors see it as perfectionism but I don't!

I am bad with names but I am going to really try-the blind kid, Mario, I love him...what a great attitude he has...he was into the dancing, and you could tell he took all the feedback they gave him - and I think they were honest with him, they didn't sugarcoat anything - and he is going to use it and get better. :o

Do we all remember Dani from "America's Got Talent" last year? She was the one who sang the funny song about looking like Justin Bieber...:D Nice to see her in another element.

Blake is cute, and also a little goofy-cute like they said, I like him. He seems natural on camera, and at ease with the others.:up:

...What do others think??? :)

Is the New Satelite TiVo Machine Sold or Leased

TiVoCommunity Forum Recent Threads - Wed, 06/06/2012 - 15:28
Is the new TiVo that supports DirecTV purchased or leased from DirecTV?

If it is purchased, what other fees must be paid to use it with the DirecTV service?

If it is leased, what are the total fees monthly/annually for usage?

Thanks

pyTivo, mkv and subtitles

TiVoCommunity Forum Recent Threads - Wed, 06/06/2012 - 15:06
I am trying to get some Japanese Anime onto my Tivo that has english subtitles.

When loading the mkv directly to the Tivo, it plays fine, albeit without subtitles.

I have carefuly followed the Kleiman's guide here:
http://mkleiman.com/pytivo_subtitles_guide.html

I can play the mkv on my XP PC without issue, it shows subtitles. It plays via/invokes windows media player.

After installing ffdshow I was able to play the .avs file created per the guide. The .avs file in it's entirety contains:
DirectShowSource("T:\torrent-completed\test.mkv", convertfps=true)

When I try to play the avs file (also WMP) however, I do not get subtitles.

Per the guide I tried adding "eng" to the Haali Media Splitter options, but that didn't fix it.

Meanwhile, From the Tivo, I can see the share where the share where the .avs file is located, but it reports "no files".

How can I get the Tivo to "see" the .avs file? What am I missing? What other information can I provide to get help?

Thanks,
Scott

Is Anthony Bourdain selling out?

TiVoCommunity Forum Recent Threads - Wed, 06/06/2012 - 12:13
Looks like Anthony Bourdain is joining the ranks of the tv chefs that he mocks so much.

Quote: Some interesting news out of Anthony Bourdain's camp yesterday: The soon-to-be former host of Travel Channel's "No Reservations" is slated to host a reality cooking show with British food personality Nigella Lawson.

Eater reported and confirmed that the show, produced by ABC, will "pit America's most skilled cooks against one another in a show unlike any other." It's the second move of the sort for the acerbic writer and chef, who recently signed a deal for a travel show with CNN. http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2012/0...n_1573793.html

Trouble Getting Delete Confirmation Dialog

TiVoCommunity Forum Recent Threads - Wed, 06/06/2012 - 12:08
Hi, all!
I'm a recently-returned TiVo user, having finally escaped from DirecTV. My new setup is a single Premiere XL with Comcast service. I switched to SD menus, mainly because I don't like live-tv-PiP, the HD menu clutter and the ads.

In my old Series 2 days, I got in the following habit. After watching a recording, I hit fast forward 2 or 3 times to zoom past credits/commercials to the actual end of the recording. When it hits the end, the video freezes and I get the delete confirmation dialog. I press arrow-up, select to delete the recording, and it returns me to the Now Playing list.

On my Premiere XL, I get the following behavior: FF 2 or 3 times, recording hits the end, the video freezes ... but I don't get the delete confirmation dialog. It sits at the video freeze and does nothing. I can go back into the list of recordings and delete the recording there, but, well, that's not a work-around I like.

I've found that I can get the desired delete confirmation dialog if I do the following: FF 2 or 3 times and hover over the fast-reverse button. When the recording hits the end and freezes, hit fast-reverse to 'slow to single FF'. I have to do that immediately after the video freezes, before the TiVo recognizes the end and switches from FF to pause. If I do that, the recording actually advances through another second or two of video, freezes again, and (tada!) gives me the delete confirmation dialog.

I've searched the board for this problem, but got only false-positives. I may not be using the right search terms. Is this a common problem? Is there a fix, or a better workaround than what I describe? Might this be related to my use of SD menus on top of HD recordings?

TIA!

TiVo Premiere XL4 MoCA Question

TiVoCommunity Forum Recent Threads - Wed, 06/06/2012 - 09:55
I have a Tivo Premiere XL4 and a TiVo Premiere. If I enable the MoCA bridge feature on the XL4 will I only need 1 MoCA adapter for my other Premiere unit for it to function? I have ethernet connected to my XL4 now but no access to ethernet on my other Premiere and would prefer not to go wireless if possible.

Authorized channel lineup

TiVoCommunity Forum Recent Threads - Wed, 06/06/2012 - 09:30
With the TiVo Premiere, you have the long list of channels that are checked or unchecked to indicate if you receive them or not in your cable package--and if they are skipped or included when you use the channel up/down buttons.

Is there a way to tell the Premiere "If my CableCARD is authorized to receive a channel, check it. If not, uncheck it."

I got the CableCARD working in my brand-new Premiere just yesterday, and the checkbox channel list is not accurate--several channels are unchecked for which we actually _are_ authorized.

Comcast is useless wrt this matter. Their website won't list the channel number lineup for my market (Tallahassee, FL), and the paper channel number lineup I picked up from their office with my CableCARD is not accurate either.

Any thoughts?

Thanks!

FS: TiVo Premiere (R74632) w/TiVo Desktop Plus License Key

TiVoCommunity Forum Recent Threads - Wed, 06/06/2012 - 08:42
Hello All,

I find myself moving to an area where I can't get OTA reception and have no desire to pay for satellite service. Consequently I'm parting with my beloved TiVo; this will be the first time I've gone without TiVo in seven years.

The unit is a base model TiVo Premiere (R74632) that is approximately eight months old. This unit was a new-in-box warranty replacement for my original Premiere that died when the fan failed. It comes with retention pricing at $9.95/mo that TiVo assures me will transfer to a new owner. As an added bonus I have a second remote for it; TiVo told me I could keep the remote from the unit that was replaced under warranty. I'm also tossing in my TiVo Desktop Plus license key. The unit is stock in all respects, I never did any hacking or modifications outside of the 30 second skip cheat code.

Asking $150.00 plus the actual cost of shipping and insurance (if desired). Your choice of shipping carriers (USPS, UPS or Fedex).

Feel free to contact me here or shoot an e-mail to tivo at arpage.org

"Opt-Out" privacy status eliminates HD menus

TiVoCommunity Forum Recent Threads - Wed, 06/06/2012 - 03:30
Good day, all.

Two weeks ago, after the recent software update, I decided to try the HD menus. I looked for the HD menu option on my Premiere and was not able to find it. After a session online with CS, I then spent a further hour or so with a phone rep. Neither was able to figure out why I didn't have HD menus, although we went through various hard and soft reboots, repeated guided setup, disconnected everything but the cable feed / network / HDTV cable, and so on. It got kicked up to another support level, they did a software push or two, and still nothing. Another call to CS said they were still looking into it.

Last weekend, I had the thought that there may be some inhibition in the menus due to our privacy status of "Opt-Out", so I called CS and had them change my status to "Opt-In". 15 minutes later, the HD menu option appeared.

Last night, I called and had the status changed back to "Opt-Out". 15 minutes later, the HD menus reset to SD.

Two comments:
1 ) It sure seems foolish that the privacy settings would effect this option.
2 ) It seems stupid that the CS reps don't know that it does.

FWIW,
George

THR22 Tuner Freeze

TiVoCommunity Forum Recent Threads - Tue, 06/05/2012 - 22:14
Hello, community. :)

I've had a THR22 for 3 days now and the first 2 days had a tuner freeze 2 times. I can't tell which tuner it was because they aren't labeled with the SWM technology and only 1 cable hooked up to the unit.

Anybody else with this issue?

I would like to know if it's a just a fluke with my unit or possibly a more general problem. Since it seems I am the first one to ask about this problem, I have the feeling that it's probably on my side only.

Thank you.
