I am using the Telnet port on the Tivo to control my Tivo from my Phone/PC.
Recently, since the new update was pushed 188.8.131.52-01-2-746 the Telnet port breaks every 24 hours or so. I havent figured out the exact interval.
I've tried to disable the Network Remote feature and re-enable it again to see if that resolves the issue but it doesnt. The only way I can get it to work again is for me to unplug the Tivo and get it to boot again.
I've also tried the Official Tivo App on my Android; it has the same affect. It doesnt work till I reboot the unit.
Has anyone else seen this? Anyway I can fix it?
Thanks in advance.

So much for what many in the media and Wall Street thought was the Holy Grail for TiVo (contracts w/cable cos)...
WOOOOOO! Aside from a tiny role in that Killer Elite movie, I've never seen her in anything but Chuck so I'm psyched to see what she brings to the show... I said since I came across Chuck that she's one of the hottest people on TV so I'm definitely curious to see what her role on a MA rated cable show will bring (lol).
This is the first piece of Dexter news that actually has me even remotely psyched for the new season--last year was such an epic train wreck and that one particular story direction they're going in had me considering if I was even gonna watch it (mostly just because I feel like the show is getting tired), but this is changing my attitude.
I've been using kttmg and pyTivo to transfer shows from my Tivo Premiere to my computer. My original idea was to offload some of the shows of the Tivo and put them back on the Tivo for future viewing.
The problem I've run into is when I push the shows back to the Tivo, the closed captioning quits working. I find this really odd because the captions are present if I view the files on my computer.
This is what I do:
1. Use kttmg to pull shows from the Tivo
I keep the original encrypted .tivo file and create a decrypted .mpg file.
2. I'm not able to directly confirm the .tivo file has closed captioning, but the .mpg file does have a CC stream that I can view using VLC Media Player. Since the .mpg was generated from the .tivo file, then it stands to reason that the .tivo file contains the closed caption information.
3. I push the original .tivo file using kttmg/pyTivo back to the Tivo. But when I play the show, there is no closed captioning. This doesn't make sense to me.
I've looked around, but all of the threads I can find have more to do with displaying captions once you get them off the Tivo. That's not what I'm dealing with. I'm pulling a .tivo file from the Tivo, then pushing it right back to the Tivo. In the process the closed captions seem to break.
Does anybody have any insight on this? How can I get closed captioning on shows pushed back to the Tivo?
I will also include the original 160GB hard drive as a backup to you.
$500 each for local pick up or add $25 for shipping if outside Los Angeles paying with Paypal.
They will go on Ebay after one week.
Coming from DISH's excellent DVR, I'm a bit frustrated by Tivo's lack of quick way to stop the show I'm currently watching and delete it.
Currently I would need to hit the Tivo button, it takes me to the Main Menu, Choose My Shows, then find the recording (among hundreds on the list) I was JUST watching and then delete it.
Why can't I just hit stop and then choose to the delete the recording I no longer want to watch?
I do know that if I fast forward to the end of the recording, the delete pop-up windows will show up.. but I don't want to fast forward to the end of the show if I'm no longer interested in it!
Will a TIVO PREMIERE XL 150 HD DVR TCD748000 work with Dish Satellite TV? > If not is there a unit that does?> > Thanks> Rangr90
Tivo seems to be itching to get back into the shopping arena again. Didn't they try something with Amazon many years ago?
It's an interesting revenue stream for advertisers and I suspect it won't make broadcasters very happy.
I have an issue with some old Directv receiverstwo Tivos, one non-Tivo, one of which is HD (not sure which one). Last month in my new place I had Directv installed, after three years living in a place where it was not available. So Im wondering what I can do with those old receivers. The Directv tech told me the old receivers are worthless, that they cannot be used, sold, scrapped, anything, and the saved shows cannot be copied to other media.
Is this true? What are my options? If you need more information about the receivers, I can provide that as well. And if there is a better forum to post this, please inform me of that as well. And for the record, I legitimately own these; they are not stolen. Thanks for your input.
I'm looking at maybe buying a WD Green drive, model WD5000AACS. The best I can tell from the WD data sheet is that it does not have Intelli-park so I shouldn't have to run WDIDLE. Can anyone verify that?
Don't know if this has been covered before... I tried several searches and didn't turn up anything.
Anyone else having issues with MASSIVE (like 3-4 minutes) of 100% PC hard drive activity after boot or resume from hibernation when Tivo Desktop is installed? I'm running Win7 Pro x64 / 4GB / 150GB free HD.
This has been driving me nuts for weeks. Disabling Superfetch and Windows search did not help. I even re-installed Windows thinking it was a Windows issue. That cured it, but apparently only because I didn't re-install Tivo Desktop (see below).
Today I reverted back to my original install (could not re-configre a couple programs easily) and set about trying to figure out what the problem was. I did a selective startup and to make a long story short, disabling and/or uninstalling Tivo Desktop was the cure. I noticed when it uninstalled that it also deleted a HUGE number of cache entries. Perhaps that was the issue... it was writing all those to the cache after boot. Not sure why it should... I have maybe 30 Tivo videos stored and they have remained unchanged for more than 6 months.
But the bottom line is that with Tivo desktop removed (or disabled in System Configuration), my hard drive is idling about 15 seconds after the last desktop widget loads. With Tivo installed, that would have been 3-4 minutes minimum. And it wasn't just excessive HD activity... it maxed out the HD and made anything else very sluggish and un-responsive.
Just thought I'd mention it because it was driving me nuts and the solution was not obvious.
So now that summer time is upon us, I plan to catch up on stuff, but these two series are on my list to watch. As I want to intersperse a few movies in there (as well as Big Brother and possibly Glass Houses), I'm not sure if I will have time to do TWO complete series of shows. I've already gotten through 4 or 5 episodes of Mad Men (getting better, but still isn't REALLY grabbing me) and I started to record the Breaking Bad replay that started over the weekend.
So, if you only had time to watch one, which would it be, Breaking Bad or Mad Men?

Caught this little tidbit of information today.
So it IS possible to have a career after the Mouse!
Also, a couple of other interesting additions to the cast.
Good to see it's been renewed at least through season six! Yay. :)

From Warren Buffetts bodyguard to a high-tech panic room in a Hollywood mansion and on board a mega yacht in Miami, CNBC goes behind the scenes with the men and women who protect the super-rich. These are nervous times for billionaires around the globe and an entire industry is on call ready to sell the ultra-rich super security.
I just watched this earlier tonight. It was ok and a shorter than the usual CNBC pieces at only 1/2 hour.
I wasn't aware of some of the security measures possible on a boat and in a home. Some of it seemed like stuff you'd see in a movie.
It looks like it'll be rerun at least once more in the next two weeks.
I am selling both of my TiVo HD units as I recently purchased a TiVo Elite and am going all in on the newer devices.
-TiVo HD TCD652160 with upgraded hard drive (500GB), original cables and remote control. Working in perfect condition, although the remote has seen better days and is very worn, some of the buttons text is worn off.
Asking $300 with free shipping in continental US, if local pickup, I will take $280.
-TiVo HD TCD652160 with upgraded hard drive (1TB), original cables and TiVo remote in very good condition with the silver outline around it (From my OLED Series3 (Not sure of the model), TiVo USB Wifi adapter and OMIKRON programmed chip and socket (not installed, in anti-static bag. Never got around to it) Very hard to come by this and allows customizing your device to suit your needs.
Asking $400 with free shipping in continental US, if local pickup I wil take $380.
Payment via PayPal as a gift to avoid surcharges, I am figuring $20 for shipping, if it is less I will reduce the cost accordingly.

Daredevil Nik Wallenda will cross Horseshoe Falls, the largest of the falls that make up Niagara Falls, on a tightrope. It will be at night, in the dark, with lots of mist.
I have always enjoyed live daredevil events so I am looking forward to this.
Nik's great-grandfather died when he fell from a tightrope.
I have a TiVo premiere I've owned for about a year and half then the hard drive died. TiVo was stuck at powering up and I confirm the drive was dead with the WD diag util. I bought a new WD 2TB DVR drive from Amazon to replace the dead drive. I download the current MFS software but I noticed there is no software image for the premieres, I own another premiere and I copied that hard drive to the new 2TB drive, expanded it and I put the new drive in the TiVo that had the bad hard drive.
I boot TiVo now with a 2TB drive up and first I get a M51 error. The error suggests I reboot to fix the problem which I did and it reboots fine, video works I can see old shows that have been recorded but when I go in the system info screen the TSN shows up as all 0's and it will no longer record shows. The software version is the latest version 20.
I assuming I can't just copy the hard drive from another TiVo like you could with older hardware. I've do a lot of searches and I find plenty of docs on upgrading to a new hard drive using an already working original drive. Anyone have any suggestions? Is my other option to buy a drive that already has a software image on it?
Thought I'd start a season thread as I'm not sure the level of interest here.
Thoroughly enjoyed the pilot, quite the twist at the end. The Gilmore Girls style sheet was a little overplayed, but the banter and dialogue were suitably witty.
Best laugh was the Michelle line, 'I live next to a hooker.' after Hubbel described his house.
