I was getting basic Comcast channels on my old CRT just fine until a week ago or so.Now all I see is that I will need a digitla QAM TV. What is the best solution to receive the digital channels and convert them to Video to feed to the back of the TIVI without going to have to go to Comcast ? I see an Apex TV tuner converter ( DT250A) -- will this solve my problem ? Is thare a better ( cheaper ?) way to do this ?
i have a tivo hd with lifetime service on it with a dead 1TB hard drive.
does the collective wisdom suggest i sell it as-is, or put a hard drive in it and sell? is it better to sell on ebay or here on the tivo forums?
My Series 3 is getting a little long in the tooth (still works fine) and I'm starting think about the newer models, especially the Premiere 4. I went to Tivo's website to check prices and I don't see a multi-unitdiscount price listed. Yes, I logged on to the website and accessed through "My Account." And my series 3 is active (although I did have it off for a while when I got a free trial on the cable company DVR and thought I'd check it out).
So, what's the deal? Did they take away the discount from existing users? (If so, that sucks. I've felt like Tivo is nickel and diming us before.)
We have a series 3 TIVO the cable card slots are in the back. Looking at the TIVO HD pictures I don't see the cable card slot.
Sorry, for the newbie questions, I have started reading though the FAQ's and technical changes to the Premiere line, but haven't finished yet. :o
I'm remotely thinking about getting a TiVo used from e-Bay. After scanning through the offerings I have a couple of across the board questions;
1. I see many of these are listed as "receivers" not DVR's. Most of those appear to be ones with no subscription, but some with still are calling them "receivers. Am I missing something here?
2. Considering prices, I really don't see any advantage with the ones that don't have a lifetime subscription. Are there any advantages since the bare decks don't seem to be that much cheaper??
3. I also see different procedures regarding transferring subscriptions. Some say the original owner has to call first, before the buyer does.
4. Which number is needed to reactivate the subscription, the S/N or this TDS (?) number?
EDIT: It just corrected itself, after playing Farscape S01E01, very odd....
I just noticed that all Netflix 4:3 content on both my TiVos is being displayed at Zoom 16:9 mode I cannot find a way to change the format,
No the TV is not set to Zoom.
I have the second Fall Update 184.108.40.206
All the StarTrek TV series are a good test.
The 4:3 content plays fine on my computers, Is this a new bug?
My Bluray player also displays correctly.
I have a Tivo HD being used without a subcription as a security camera recorder. Can I add a expander drive without having to connect to the 'mothership' and causing the recording option to be shut down?
Any word on when RedBox Instant streaming will show up on the Premiere?
Didn't the TiVo and Verizon agreement include adding the RedBox/Verizon streaming service to the TiVos?
I have a Tivo USB Network Adapter hooked up to an OLED Series 3 and frequently the adapter will lose my home wireless network connection.
What happens is the Tivo won't update the guide and says there isn't a wireless network adapter connected. But if I unplug the adapter and plug it back in then that usually fixes the issue and the Tivo see's the adapter. It happens so much that t's to the point now where it's annoying. Any suggestions?
That slick deals site has info how you can get the TiVo Stream for $110 shipping and no taxes for most. Go there and search under the "hot deals" forum.
New to TiVo. I got the Premiere model with 2 tuners. I think the model is tcd748500, it's too small to read to be sure.
I have ordered cable tv for the basic channels they are coming to install it next week.
I am currently using an antenna and seems to work ok.
I understand that you can only use two channels at a time. So if I am watching one I can only record one more. Is only two tuners a problem? It's easy to go back to the store and get the 4 tuner model.
If I did get the 4 tuner model I understand that doesn't work with an antenna. Is there some kind of box I can plug the antenna into do that I can then plug that into the TiVo? Or am I then stuck with always having cable?
I miss the very end of many shows. Are the channels extending shows beyond the 1/2 hour or hour marks or is this a problem with my TIVO? Is there any work around besides settings up manual recording times for all my shows? If I could extend recording ala for live shows it would be ok.
Anyone else seeing this?
Does anyone here have a cable system that has switched to using H.264 (aka MPEG4) for some of your channels? If so are any of those channels unprotected and capable of being transferred to a PC via TiVoToGo? If so would you be willing to send me a sample of a .tivo file with H.264 video so I can use it for testing in VideoReDo?
It’s finally the holiday season! Yesterday, our TiVo elves were hard at work, excited to do their part. Wrapping boxes and making decorations, they were preparing to decorate our tree at this year’s Christmas in the Park celebration in Downtown San José at the Plaza de Cesar Chavez on Market St. Each year, local businesses and community members make a contribution to ensure that the show goes on, with a 60-foot Community Giving Tree and a forest of well-lit trees exuding holiday spirit and joy. This year, TiVo Continue Reading
TiVo’s out with their quarterly earnings and things are looking up after a profitable quarter, with continued patent litigation/licensing success and subscriptions growing 44% year-over-year… largely thanks to Virgin Media’s success in marketing and deploying well over a million TiVo units (versus seeing any significant gain via that awful “new” DirecTV solution). With other foreign and second tier [...]
I had thought the MOCA bridging in my new XL4 would solve the problem of providing internet connections to my other entertainment hardware, but even with reserved addresses at my router for all of the gear, when the TiVo reboots (like for an update) all the other gear loses their ethernet connections until they are each rebooted. I would have thought they would be reconnected at their old (reserved) addresses after the TiVo completed its reboot. Anybody understand why this happens?
I have been archiving almost all movies and every tv episodes
Some movies I record to watch later and end up saving to pc.
I have over 14 TB's of recordings and now considering just deleting some shows I like after watching it instead of just saving everything.
I wanted some opinions of others whether they stopped or cut back on archiving
tv episodes of shows they like.
kmttg works great and hard drives are not that expensive anymore.
Reconsidering time and effort for saving and documenting what is on each hard drive.
Does TIVO allow me to watch 2 channels at the time? currently my rental SA8300 DVR on cablevision does.. but the unit doesn't work to well.. looking for alternatives..
Wow, I thought this episode really sucked. Not only do they give us multiple gooey-eyed Damon/Elena scenes, but then they don't have the balls to make it actually real in the first place! Look, show. If you want to go to a triangle and put Elena with Damon, fine. Just frickin do it already. I think it sucks and is a terrible storyline (and a waste of our time because I truly believe they will circle back to Stefan anyway), but whatever. But then to go there but make it all a mystical sire bond bogus crap thing? Total wuss out.
The rest of the ep was blah too. Way to much sunlight, boring romantic scenes for couples we don't care about (Caroline/Klaus? Really?), no real action. Stefan essentially murders a guy.
I hope they can right this ship. The only decent thing was the bad guy and how he is guiding the pieces right now. I approve of that storyline.
And Phoebe Tonkin is hot. That is all.
Background...I have the S3, always been on OTA, two HDDS, running great for many years...until this November. All of a sudden, partial recordings for a few channels. Hit or miss, sometimes it records fully, other times, partial in the beginning, middle, or end. Other channels record fine, the family have noticed some have slight pause during playback, I don't know if it is related to same problem.
Thinking it was the HDDs that were near capacity of recordings, I had the family delete shows to regain some space. That didn't help.
Next step, ran Kickstart to test the HDDs, all clear. Then, I took both HDDs and put them on the PC to test with WD and Seagate diagnostics, ran the short tests, ran the long tests, all clear.
Rechecked the anttenna connections, check the diagnostic in Tivo for the problematic channels, SNR in the low 30s, signals in the high 90s.
I was thinking it may be too hot, and it did coincide with the dropping of leaves in the Fall. So I picked up a variable attenuator from Solid Signal and tested with the different knob settings. Lowered the signals to low 90, mid 80s. No help, still get the partial recordings.
Looked for bulging capacitors, they look fine.
As you can imagine, I'm at my wits, I don't know what to check next or if our S3 has reached it's end. I have two other methods to follow, switch out the data and power connectors on the HDDs, and completely divorce the 2nd HDD, format and re-attach. I'd rather not divorce it due to the recordings still on it, so I have been holding off.
Any other less drastic ideas?
Could it be the tuner(s), this partial recording issue is happening on only 2 to 3 channels. They all have signal 90 and up and low 30 SNRs.
