I've managed to find my S1 DirecTivo that I had back around 2002 or so.
There are a couple shows on there that would be nice to have an archived copy of, but I'm not sure what tools would work for that now.
Could I get some advice on the most efficient/easiest way to take the recordings and turn them into an AVI or an MPEG? Preferably one that doesn't involve trying to reactivate the unit.
I don't have DirecTV service anymore (and I don't even know if the unit will boot up), but I figure as long as the hard drives are readable, I have options. Or so I'm assuming.
Does anybody remember the specifics of the S2 sound problems from days of yore? My searching fails today. Basically...
I got a 540040 S2 second hand (now lifetime). It had issues with weird static/chirps in the sound recording or output. At the time it was suggested that there were some S2s with a defective chip causing the problem. The work around suggested was to make the Tivo hotter on the inside. I accomplished this by putting duct tape over half of the fan grate. So for the past three years my Tivo is chirp free but running at 48c according to the temp sensor. This can't be good for the HD or power supply caps. I would like to get another 540xxx tivo and swap boards (yes I know I will have to swap the crypto chip also). So that brings me to my question:
Does anyone remember if the chirping problem on 540xxx S2s was widespread? Is there any known serial number or production date ranges to avoid when shopping for a donor unit?
I am wondering if there is some way to make it easier to delete shows?
It gets cumbersome having to click on the show, and then scrolling down to delete, and then confirming I want to delete.
Takes like 15 seconds each. is there any way to speed up this process?
Somebody suggested a spinoff thread to discuss "reality shows" that might or might not be faked and to what extent.
Show's I've stopped watching due to being too fake:
World's Worst Tenants
For about 2 weeks now there have been no transfers from TiVo HD to TiVo Desktop Plus.
TiVo Desktop Plus on WinXP SP3. Running 2.8.2; uninstalled and installed 2.8.3--problem persists.
The transfer status window has 6 shows in it but nothing moves. It says
The TiVo DVR is busy with another transfer. The recording will begin to transfer when the DVR is available. But it never happens.
Unlike other threads I have read with a similar problem, the DVR's blue light is not on.
When I address the DVR with my web browser and try to download the file in the browser I get a window that says:
too many transfers in progress
even when there are no red lights (and no blue light) on the DVR. (No problem logging in to DVR with MAK.)
I just did this experiment: I removed all auto-transfers and emptied out the transfer status window. Then I picked one show from the Pick Recordings to Transfer window. This almost immediately showed up in the transfer status window. Then within a second the yellow triangle icon showed up with the messsage: The TiVo DVR is busy with another transfer (etc). I checked the DVR and there is no red or blue light on.
I hove not tried resetting the DVR lately and will do so when I can. Meanwhile I am open to suggestions.
Was wondering if all Tivos with dual tuners can record two over the air stations at the same time?
Perhaps, more specifically, I'm wondering whether the Tivo HDs and Tivo Premiers can?
According to a Fox press release
9/12 (Wednesday) - The X-Factor
9/13 (Thursday) - Glee
9/17 (Monday) - Bones; The Mob Doctor
9/25 (Tuesday) - Ben and Kate; The Mindy Project; New Girl (for some reason, Fox lists a "special all-new episode" at 8, and the "season premiere" at 9)
9/28 (Friday) - Fringe; Kitchen Nightmares
9/30 (Sunday) - Animation Domination (except for The Cleveland Show)
10/2 (Tuesday) - Raisng Hope
10/7 (Sunday) - The Cleveland Show
10/26 (Friday) - Touch (replacing Kitchen Nightmares)
At no notice we have lost all program information from our TIVO box so cannot see what is due to be shown on TV, our favorite channels and cannot record anything.
We contacted Virgin Media who do not know how to fix the problem. Their only suggestion is to reformat the whole Tivo box. We would therefore lose all our recordings (including all my 7 year old son's favorite dinosaur and wildlife programs). Obviously we are all unhappy about this situation.
Can anybody offer any help with this or advice?
I put a new drive in my Series 3 (original) this weekend (went from internal + external to a single internal drive). It was my understanding the recordings were striped across both drives when using an external drive. However, I had a number of shows on the internal drive after the divorce, some of them even recorded in the past couple months. There did not seem to be a pattern to the recordings left on the internal disk, but I had assumed only recordings from before the addition of the external drive would exist. I had the external drive for three years, has something changed or am I simply remembering wrong about how recordings are performed when you have an external and internal HD?
Just curious. I simply unmarried the drives to save the internal, but I do want to know what is going on here.
Hello, I'm considering buying a used Series3 or HD. Do these have a typical lifespan before they need work/replacement, or is it not possible to tell? Thanks for your help.
I could swear that I used to eliminate the Preview Window in the menus by hitting the Zoom button (toggle on and off). Now that button takes me back to the recording I was watching.
Did something change or is it just poor memory (me, not TiVo).
This thread might contain spoilers! :D
So here's what I think is gonna end up happening with Mike and his fake law degree. I think they are going to hatch a plan to somehow make him legit.
Good episode this week, I liked all of the authority stuff.
Looks like Tara is at least partially there, and does not yet appear to be retarded in any way.
Based on the interactions in the Authority boardroom I guess we are to assume that Russel is being nursed to health by the group that wants to stop the mainstreaming initiative and treat the humans like meat.
I laughed when Jason said he has slept with "almost" all of the women in town.
I was surprised when Jessica didn't agree to sell Jason :)
Where is the list of TiVo Suggestions in the HD Menus?
In the SD Menu it is front and center under the Find My Shows banner, but in HD Menus I can't find any way to get to it.
Say what you will about the merits of this show; the acting was SUPERB. The scene where Terry confesses to killing Rosie was one of the best I've ever seen.
I have a Tivo HD where all of a sudden lately it cannot connect to the service. I am using a Tivo G adapter with Verizon FiOS. I have tried everything - opening ports, rebooting, rebooting the TiVo, etc etc. Every computer on my network is acting perfectly fine. I have no Tivo service data what do i do?
I'm getting really frustrated
I searched and haven't found this issue on here, so I was wondering if anyone else ran into this:
I have a series 4 XL Tivo and lately when watching Netflix through the Tivo, the screen flicks to black frequently during play. The audio keeps working, and the screen only stays black for a second, but it happens SEVERAL times, no matter what I'm watching. I have watched shows via Netflix on my laptop and iPad and the issue does not happen there, but it happens every time with the Tivo. Anyone have any insight? Thanks!
I have s3 TiVo. When I add a season pass it takes at least 3 minutes before I can do anything. Would this be faster if I deleted some? If so is there a a way online I can delete them faster? Most of my season passes are for "first run" and will never run again I'm expecting delivery of xl4 in a few days to replace my S3. Do I go online to migrate SP's between boxes? Is it also a good idea to remove old SP's before I do this? Is their any pre- maintenance I should do? Do I get my thumb ratings moved over? Anything else I should know about switching?
Attention Futurama fans: a new season starts Wednesday, June 20 at 10pm eastern time on Comedy Central. There will be two new back to back episodes. Set your DVR's today!
I have just recently moved to a Tivo Premiere device partially because I wanted to be able to use the iPad app. So far the app has worked fine, except the guide page is totally blank and says "no channels found". However on the Tv, i can see the guide info just fine. I have closed down the app and restarted. Restarted the Tivo. Tried searching the forums. I have now run out of ideas.
Thanks in advance for your help!
