Question about multiple program guides

TiVoCommunity Forum Recent Threads - Wed, 05/09/2012 - 20:42
Hi everyone.

Considering dropping Dish and going back to TWC with a Tivo Premiere. It's been a while since I've had one and that was on Direct, but I go back as far as the 14hour units.
My question relates to the guide, and I've looked around a bit and can't find the answer. With Dish and even TWC I think, you can setup multiple favorite channel lists so we can have one for the kids that just shows kids channels, one for my wife which just has the channels she is interested in, etc. Is there a way on the Premiere to do this? I was single last time I had one so this wasn't a concern to me then :)

Thanks in advance,

Mike

Seemed pretty easy to tell Tarzan was going the way this one was edited, IMO.

I'll be glad when this season is over. Other than eliminating RI this season has been horrible.

Premiere Won't Boot - then seems to boot - then reboots

TiVoCommunity Forum Recent Threads - Wed, 05/09/2012 - 20:00
Having some issues with my Premiere XL that I have not experienced before in the 2 years I have owned it.

I got home tonight and found it was rebooting but was stuck at the "Almost there......" screen. I unplugged it and waited a few minutes and plugged it back in. It tried to reboot again but kept looping through the reboot sequence (Almost there, Welcome, Starting up, etc.). I let it stay there for at least 20 minutes. I unplugged it again, let it sit for a minute and then plugged it in again but disconnected the ethernet and bluetooth remote dongles this time. Plugged it back in and it started the boot sequence and got to the THX screen with the THX sound bit and it briefly showed a channel but then it stuttered and went right back to the looping boot sequence again. I unplugged it again and let it sit for 5 minutes and plugged it back in again. It again got to the THX screen but played the THX sequence OK but then it immediately started the reboot sequence. Normally, when I get to the THX screen, the next screen is that goofy animated Tivo character that dances. Not seeing that at all - not getting that far in the boot sequence.

So far, dead in the water. No TV or anything.

I'll call Tivo tomorrow but was hoping someone could offer some suggestions tonight to save me that aggravation.

Thanks.

"=newpost" links on the site?

TiVoCommunity Forum Recent Threads - Wed, 05/09/2012 - 15:01
I get instant email notifications of subscribed posts.

In each of these emails, there is a link which includes a "&goto=newpost" URL parameter, which does exactly what we want it to do.

Say I get 10 notifications of thread updates, and I only look at ONE of them, that seems to reset the notification flag for ALL subscribed threads. So if I just check one thread, I'll get dozens of new emails on updated threads, even though I never viewed those threads. At least when I *do* check those pending threads, the "&goto=newpost" does what I expect it to do, and takes me to the last unread post in each thread, regardless of the last time I logged on.

But there are two problems -- First, my TCF email folder gets overrun with dozens and dozens of duplicate thread notifications. Second, there's no place (I can find) on the TCF website that allows me to view all subscribed thread AND that also use "&goto=newpost". Yes, on the USER CP, I can click on "View all Subscribed Threads" link, BUT the problem is, each of those thread links will take me to the LAST post in the thread, and not my own "last unread post". The links on the icon do not have "&goto=newpost", but rather, "p=9085853#post9085853" which is the last post.. That's NOT very helpful when I'm trying to pick up where I ACTUALLY left off in the thread.

Soooo... It would be nice if there were EITHER a way to suppress duplicate email notifications of threads I have NOT yet opened/read, OR somewhere on the site I could get a list of subscribed+unread threads WITH links that go to "&goto=newpost" and not "last post".

I ALSO don't find it useful to just look at the Topic list and scan for the "black dots" to find subscribed threads across several different sub-forums.

TIVO Series 3 transfer to DirectV TIVO DVR

TiVoCommunity Forum Recent Threads - Wed, 05/09/2012 - 14:54
Sorry if this is redundant, however, I am considering terminating my Series 3 TIVO account for a DirecTV Tivo DVR package. The question is; can I transfer the recordings from the Series 3 to the DirecTV DVR while the the TIVO account is still active?

Missing - Whole season thread (spoiles acceptable)

TiVoCommunity Forum Recent Threads - Wed, 05/09/2012 - 08:44
Anyone still watching this? I made a whole season thread as the last episode on here was in March.

I like it. Lots of twists and turns. But I did think that the family friend was going to wind up being involved with the bad guys.

Does Time Warner still charge to install cable card/Tuning Adapter?

TiVoCommunity Forum Recent Threads - Wed, 05/09/2012 - 05:36
I am selling my Series 3 and purchasing a Premiere next week.

Will Time Warner (I am located in Suburban Cleveland, Ohio area) have them come out to install the cable card/tuning adapter so I can do that myself by calling them over the phone?

I did this a few years ago and I had to pay for a service call. You would think by now I could just do this over the phone. At least I hope.

Not sure if the cable card has changed since this unit was installed in 2007.

Please let me know. Thanks.

Glee "Choke" and "Prom-asaurus" 5/1/12 and 5/8/12

TiVoCommunity Forum Recent Threads - Wed, 05/09/2012 - 01:39
Surprised there was no thread last week to discuss Rachel's epic choke. I'm not at all pleased with the direction of this; I was looking forward to at least a partial dose of Rachel, Finn and Kurt in NYC next season without all the "what am I going to do with my life?" drama (since I assume the senior cast is still not leaving the show and they're still not entertaining a NYC spinoff...even though they totally should).

I didn't understand Finn's total blowup at Quinn this week at all. The level of his butthurt-ness was just comical, and he made it seem like Quinn had faked the entire accident and the painful process that followed. If she didn't want to tell anyone how far she'd gotten in PT, that's her business, damn it. I think we're far enough along in the "new Quinn" phase to believe that she'd do something that stupid again.

Brittany was also dumbed down a ton. Dinosaurs? No hair gel? Calling the prom committee a terrorist cell? Really? Oh, and the "Dinosaur" number was one of the worst they've ever done IMO. Maybe that's because I despise Kesha and her truly poetic lyrics, but seriously, that's the best they could do?

Gah. I'm getting too worked up over this. We've just had to suspend disbelief a LOT lately.

Tivo Transfer: Can see DVR, but no shows

TiVoCommunity Forum Recent Threads - Wed, 05/09/2012 - 00:23
I have a MacBook running 10.6.8.

I purchased Toast with Tivo Transfer so that I could transfer shows off my dying Series 2 Tivo before replacing it with a new Premiere. Worked fine.

New Premiere came, and it worked, but after using it for a week or so I discovered a physical defect. Tivo agreed to replace it. So I used Tivo Transfer to transfer the few shows I'd recorded on this Premiere to my laptop. Also worked fine.

Now, even-newer Premiere has arrived. Tivo Transfer can find the DVR, but no shows. I am not sure if this is due to some issue with the new DVR, or recent new Toast release, or both.

I have tried all of the relevant fixes on Roxio support site - nothing works. I have rebooted and forced connection numerous times; changed Tivo's name, double-checked MAK; checked and un-checked the options under DVR preferences on Tivo.com, re-run Toast setup ...

In desperation I tried downloading kmttg - and that doesn't work either! Same problem - finds the box, but no shows. Produces the following error:

Access Forbidden

Failed to retrieve Now Playing List from [Tivo name]
Exit code: 0
Check YOUR MAK & IP settings

Can anyone think of anything that can be causing this? No response from Roxio/Corel.

Oktoberfest - Munich

TiVoCommunity Forum Recent Threads - Tue, 05/08/2012 - 21:20
I'm in the preliminary stages of planning a trip to Munich for Oktoberfest with my girlfriend and one or two friends.

I'm just looking for any pointers as for where to stay in the city, accommodations, where the beer tents are, which are the best, etc.

I've already found a website that has apartment rentals. That seems to make the most sense, is the most economical and will probably be the way we go.

We're also looking for ideas as to other places to visit on this trip which will be about two weeks in Europe.

Right now we're looking at doing Amsterdam, Berlin, Munich and Prague. I'd also consider going to Venice again although that may only be good with the GF. Anything else in between that would be better?

Oops. Mods, please move to HH.

FIOS without cable card. Possible?

TiVoCommunity Forum Recent Threads - Tue, 05/08/2012 - 20:13
I switched from Comcast to Verizon FIOS today. When I signed up for their basic service (ABC, CBS, NBC, etc.) it said that no cable card was needed.

When I re-run guided setup I pick the correct cable company but the channels it provides me are not correct. So I tried the scan feature on both cable and antenna (moving the cable over of course) and TiVo did not find any channels from either medium.

When I move the cable to my TV and run a scan, it finds the 40 channels.

Does this mean that I have to get a cable card for this to work? I was hoping to avoid the extra $4 a month charge.

will the lifetime transfer?

TiVoCommunity Forum Recent Threads - Tue, 05/08/2012 - 19:45
I have the premier, had for about 1 year and it died, luckily I had the extended insurance. I have had the new one now for about 6 weeks and would like to get the lifetime on it but am afraid of this one dying.

If a tivo dies within the warranty period, and has a lifetime attached, will the replacement automatically be put under the lifetime?

Fearing another dead tivo is keeping me from getting the lifetime.

Any opinions?

Thanks
