Shows permanently deleted - recently deleted shows kept?

TiVoCommunity Forum Recent Threads - Thu, 08/02/2012 - 20:29
My Family Room Premier permanently deleted all the kids shows today. I re-purposed it to record Olympics for these couple weeks and have been carefully deleting Olympics shows to prevent it from deleting all the kids shows. I figured this was easier than setting all the kids shows to keep until delete since there are so many of them.

Last night, I finished watching Olympics shows and deleted all the Olympics from the TiVo. There were still a bunch (50-70 episodes) of various kids shows at that time.

When I get home tonight, my son tells me all his shows are gone. Sure enough, he's down to just one episode of one show. I look in the recently deleted folder and find only Olympics episodes that were recorded between 7/27 and 8/1. Only about 25% of the disk is used.

So, for some reason, the 10 or so Olympics episodes in recently deleted took precedence over the shows that had not been deleted and all the kids shows but one were lost.

Has anyone seen this happen? Any idea how to avoid it in the future? Now that they're gone, it doesn't really matter. I can't get them back until the Olympics are done.

Can somebody point me to a weather app that's still working? The ones I've found seem to be gone.

The episode of "Breaking Bad" airing at the same time Sunday is titled, "Fifty-One"

The end is nigh!

I have a two Tivos with upgraded hard drives, to include a dual tuner Series 2, and single Tuner Series 2, and also a non TiVo DVR that doesn't have programing info, but has a DVD burner that you can edit the show on the hard drive before you burn it onto the DVD.

Series 1: Will Clear Program Data not force Guided Setup

TiVoCommunity Forum Recent Threads - Thu, 08/02/2012 - 16:38
Can I run "Clear Program Data" and have it do that and not start Guided Setup?

Why I care:
My Series 1 has failed with "Failed while loading series" for the last month.
So far I have:
Unplugged from phone for 3 days
Run Kickstart 57
Reset Thumb Ratings.

I'm afraid to run guided setup because I've read about the possibility of getting stuck in that if there is a problem loading program data during that procedure.

So I'd like to run Clear Program Data...but a TiVo rep just told me that option will go into Guided Setup.

Is he right?

Soooooooooo, I feel bad for Ian. I get his answer to Britney, "Not in the foreseeable future."

I get what he means. I get where Britney was coming from also. I think Frank got on the block because two people from two different walks of life had a mis-communication.

Can we have an intervention for Danielle? I don't think she gets what a showmance is supposed to be.

I want Joe to go.

Moving - cable card question - can I go without?

TiVoCommunity Forum Recent Threads - Thu, 08/02/2012 - 10:36
I moved over the weekend from my own apartment where I've had comcast and my Tivo HD set up happily with 2 cable cards for a couple of years now - into my fiance's house where he has his own comcast account and his own comcast DVR. He of course doesn't want to switch to Tivo only, and I am partial to the service that I purchased a lifetime use for. :)

My question - how will the Tivo operate if i go without cable cards? Can I just watch live tv at that point? Or can i record 1 at a time? And will it then not broacast in HD? If I keep 1 cable card (at $1.50) and give up the 2nd (at 9.99) what will the ramifications be?

I just want to make sure I'm all primed up with answers before I ax my comcast account, return cable cards, and then have to reinstall 1 or more with a $30 service call.

TiVo Olympic Coverage — Top Moments — August 1, 2012

TiVo Blog - Thu, 08/02/2012 - 08:19
Swimming once again provided dramatic highlights on Day 5 of the Olympic Games. USA’s Nathan Adrian took the top spot on the podium and the top spot for the most-watched moment of Wednesday’s primetime coverage. Adrian won the men’s 100m freestyle by a fingertip – a mere hundredth of a second was the margin of victory over Australian James Magnussen. Daniel Gyuta of Hungary set a new world record in the 200m  breaststroke, finishing ahead of the host country’s Michael Jamieson. Men’s gymnastics took center stage with a disappointing performance by John Orozco on Continue Reading

Quality of video transferred back and forth and WMC

TiVoCommunity Forum Recent Threads - Thu, 08/02/2012 - 01:17
What is the quality difference between video recorded on a Tivo and video transferred to PC and back to Tivo again? Does anyone know what the resolution and bitrate are and how this compares to Windows Media Center. When I recorded straight from a Tivo (best quality) to a DVDirect (best quality) and compared it to Windows Media Center I got the following info when playing each one on a PS3:

(I forget which one was the Tivo and which one was the WMC, I think #1 may have been Tivo and #2 WMC,
I'll try to figure that out soon)
1) Dolby Digital 2 Ch 48 khz 256 kbps mpeg2 7.9 mbps (not an avg, was around this range while playing)
2) Dolby Digital 2 Ch 48 khz 384 kbps (no format given) 9.3 mbps (not at avg, was around this range while playing)

Land line moved to Verizon Home phone connect

Can a Tivo be connected to a Verizon Home Connect service?
http://www.verizonwireless.com/b2c/splash/hpc.jsp
A friend of mine got rid of her Centurylink home phone and went with Verizon wireless Home connect. It says on the website that DVR updates are not supported, but I wondering if anyone was able to make it work? The friend did get wireless internet, but it is metered, so I am thinking I don't want her two TiVos using up all her monthly allowance.
I am her 'I.T.' person.
But like all I.T. persons, I am stuck trying to fix something I advised her not to get. Or at least I suggested other options that she didn't take.
I have two wireless Tivo adapters that I can take over and connect if the Home connect will not support the Tivo phone line.
It would be nice that she would have internet capabilities on her Tivos (something she has never had as she had dial up internet before) Then she would have the extra search capabilities and download capabilities. But downloading any videos is going to eat up her 2 gig per month allowance. (also shared with her Droid phone. Ya, Ya, I know, she could have done much better, but who ever listens to the IT guy when getting ready to buy the stuff I am going to have to maintain/configure?)

tivo series 3 records more programs than requested.

TiVoCommunity Forum Recent Threads - Wed, 08/01/2012 - 19:31
If I set my Tivo to record a maximum of FIVE shows of (say) Modern Marvels, it goes ahead on its own and records from 6 to 12 and sometimes more. Why is this? What can I do to limit the Tivo to recording the selected FIVE maximum?

Does it have anything to do with the fact that some programs are available on multiple channels? This is true, but the channels are not duplicates so I would rather not turn off any of my selected channels.

Thanks.

Tivo HD reboots spontaneously

TiVoCommunity Forum Recent Threads - Wed, 08/01/2012 - 18:29
A few times a week my Tivo HD will spontaneously reboot. It's been upgraded to a 2TB internal drive and sits behind a power conditioner. None of my other equipment shows signs of any power surge or disconnect.

From what I've read, it might be a HDD problem or a power supply/cable capacitor issue.

I actually have an old HD that I tried to repair with a new power supply when it would hang forever at the "Just a few minutes more" screen. So I will probably try to examine the power supply/cable and replace if there's any question about them. Seems a lot easier/quicker than copying the content of my current drive onto a new drive.

Anything I should check or other ideas as to a cause?

New user: IR/RF setup question for hidden Premiere

TiVoCommunity Forum Recent Threads - Wed, 08/01/2012 - 15:02
I've read through a few threads on the subject and am unsure what I need. I just ordered service through a local provider, which includes the Tivo Premiere. In our room, the tv/sat box has always been hidden in the closet behind the TV. The first unit needed a simple IR extender, mounted on the front of the TV. My DirectTV unit just needed an RF kit ( antenna and RF Remote).
The install date is next week, and I want to have the necessary equip ready. What do I need? TIA.

Comcast On Demand available in NY Metro area

I live about 50 miles north of Manhattan in Putnam County. When I turned my TV on last night I was greeted with a message stating I now had access to On Demand. I wasn't sure it would ever be available in my area let alone so quickly.

Help with HD install in Directv TRH22

TiVoCommunity Forum Recent Threads - Wed, 08/01/2012 - 14:10
Hello everyone,
I have a question regarding upgrading the hard drive on the DirecTV TiVo THR22. When I removed the black bracket that holds the hard drive I foolishly did not notice where the black wire was going. You know the wire the kind of wraps around it. I know it goes back in the little ridges along the sides of the black bracket but the ridges end at the separator panel piece and after that I'm not sure where it went. It drove me nuts I couldn't find where that little brass socket thingy at the end was supposed to go. So I routed the wire underneath the separator panel to the other side and sort of wrapped it around one of the posts holding the fan wire and left the little brass thing just sort of in the air. I'm guessing it has something to do with measuring the temperature. The new 2TB WD AV-GP (WD20EURS) HD I put in has worked flawlessly. Absolutely nothing wrong, it shows 42°C in the system information, pretty normal.

So the question really is where should that brass thingy have ended up? Opening it back up is no big deal for me, but at the moment there doesn't seem to be any reason to unless someone here to give me information otherwise.

Thank you so much.

Disappointed in first ep of season 2 of Friday Night Lights. Quit now or continue?

TiVoCommunity Forum Recent Threads - Wed, 08/01/2012 - 14:05
** NO SPOILERS ** NO SPOILERS **

After hearing about how great Friday Night Lights was for so long, I finally got around to watching it on Netflix. I really enjoyed the first season. They had some great writing and the coach's family was very well done. As the parent of a similarly-aged daughter, I had a hard time watching some scenes because they hit so close to home. I can understand why the show struggled to find an audience. When it was originally on, I thought it was going to be Dawson's Creek with football. But it's really a well done show about a life in a small Texas down with football as the background.

However, I just watched the first episode of the second season and I was very disillusioned with the bridge scene. The tone of that plot point just seems terribly wrong compared with the story from the first season. I'm concerned that the show is going to continue these crazy, ratings-grabbing ploys and the show I love is going to devolve into a complete mess.

Should I quit watching now? Just go on as if there was one great season and that was it? Or continue watching because they are able to handle that bridge situation in a believable manner which fits with the first season?

Please, NO SPOILERS.

Tivo MSD Qualifier

TiVoCommunity Forum Recent Threads - Wed, 08/01/2012 - 13:07
All but one of my Tivos have been purchased as used boxes and all have lifetime. The one I got from Tivo was at the MSD price. Is there any way to know which boxes can serve as a qualifier for future MSD purchases without having to call Tivo and ask?
