TiVo Stream + a local play simultaneously?

TiVoCommunity Forum Recent Threads - Tue, 09/25/2012 - 07:02
Just wondering - if someone is using the Tivo to watch something - and another party wants to use a TiVo Stream for viewing another recorded show elsewhere - can BOTH watch simultaneously?

Edit - I've just seen this - "With support for up to four streams at once, users can now watch previously recorded and currently recording content over their home network" - so maybe that's the answer. This at least implies 4 different mobile users could be simultaneously playing 4 different shows off of one Tivo Premiere?

Since we had our Virgin Tivo box fitted, it switches on the TV at 11pm every evening. Is there a setting that does this?

Transcode Quality Changes after App Crash

TiVoCommunity Forum Recent Threads - Mon, 09/24/2012 - 20:45
So I'm experiencing the same crashing issues on my iPad 3, specifically around opening a folder and having the app force quit.

Something I have noticed: When I've setup some transfers in "Best" quality, and the app crashes, the transfers will still be there on re-launch but showing the "Good" quality file size on the transfer screen. If I let the full download occur it does indeed stop at that point, and the playback indicates the same file size/quality.

I can replicate this pretty easily; just start a transfer on best, get the app to crash (for some that seems to be easier than others), then re-launch and review the file size of the transcode.

Anyone else seeing this? Is there some reason that could actually be by design on the stream?

I'm on the iPad 3 ATT version, running iOS 6. The steam is indicating S/W version 19.0.1-01-06.

need ethernet bridge between TiVo and tv set

TiVoCommunity Forum Recent Threads - Mon, 09/24/2012 - 20:37
I have somewhat of a quirky requirement. I need to bridge my TiVo to my entertainment centre via Ethernet (RJ45).

Everything I've found so far online requires I use a Moca type device.
Unfortunately Moca is designed to carry ip over coax. What I need to do is carry coax over ip!! We do not have nor can we use coax, only CAT5.

Description:

TiVo coax output via F connector >>> Black box with F female connector input, RG-45 Ethernet connector output >>> RG-45 Ethernet connector input >>> Wireless Bridge TX >>> Wireless Bridge RX >>> RG-45 Ethernet connector output >>> Black box with RG-45 Ethernet connector input, F female connector output >>> TV set.

We need the black box only.

Any idea of a solution?

Miracle Ball on Velocity, Saturday, 9/29/2012, 8PM (and repeating)

TiVoCommunity Forum Recent Threads - Mon, 09/24/2012 - 20:13
If you are a baseball fan, then the term "Shot heard 'round the world" is probably well known to you. If so, then you might be interested in catching the special "Miracle Ball" that will be airing on the Velocity Channel (former Discovery HD Theater) on Saturday, 9/29/2012.

I had the pleasure of reading a book (and writing a review of same for Amazon) that was the inspiration of this special and found it fascinating.

Most definitely looking forward to seeing the special.

Re-airs a few times that same night, and likely would re-air later in the month (though I have not confirmed that far out on the schedule).

Odd Behavior!

TiVoCommunity Forum Recent Threads - Mon, 09/24/2012 - 19:00
I have 3 Premiere XL's and one of them wouldn't come out of standby on Sunday morning. I tried pushing the "TiVo" and "Now Playing" buttons several times, but nothing!

I thought that it had crashed, but then tried to access its recordings from another XL on my network. It was still listed on the other DVR and when I clicked on the folder, the program list came up. Within 10-15 seconds, the non-responding TiVo sprang to life and behaved normally after that!!

Anyone else ever have a similar experience?

Slingbox user needs feedback, any reason to purchase TiVo Stream?

TiVoCommunity Forum Recent Threads - Mon, 09/24/2012 - 15:42
Hey Guys,

Looking at the new stream features, I'm wondering if it's even necessary for me. First off, my cable provider flags almost everything so from my understanding the transferring of shows to my mobile device will be severely crippled correct? Second, I can access my TiVo through Slingbox for live and pre-recorded show streaming now.

Is there any other benefit I am losing out on without the stream?

Thanks!

Wow...this year is pretty intense, already. I'm really liking this show, but wanted to know what others thought and your thoughts on another season?

I know it's early in the season, but there's a lot of material to work with here...

TiVo HD XL - 'roaring' sound and reboots but passed smart hd test?

TiVoCommunity Forum Recent Threads - Mon, 09/24/2012 - 14:12
I'm trying to help my parents out. They have an out of warranty Tivo hd xl that recently has (as best as they can describe it) intermittently either a) rebooted itself b) emits what they call a roaring or loud whirring sound that doesn't stop until you power down for 10 min or so c) a combo of a and b.

I assumed hd and/ or overheating. I had them run a kickststart smart scan which it passed (after 7 hours). This is on a grandfathered additional plan that I'm not sure they'd transfer over to a new premiere and I'm trying to get out cheap if I can. Suggestions?

DWTS: All Star Edition = Broken SP

Apparently adding "All Stars" to the title of Dancing with the Stars broke our season pass. Anyone with an SP should check to ensure that theirs will record.

TiVo Top Moments from the 64th Primetime Emmy Awards

TiVo Blog - Mon, 09/24/2012 - 12:54
This year’s Emmy winners were mostly predictable with Modern Family nabbing an award in nearly every comedy category and The Daily Show winning for variety series for the 10th consecutive year. The biggest surprises came from newcomer Homeland, who not only took home best drama series (ending Mad Men’s four-year hot streak for the award), but who’s stars Claire Danes and Damian Lewis ran away with best actress and actor in a drama series as well. But we all know the best part about awards shows like this, are usually the bits, introductions, and flubs that Continue Reading

Well here we are in NOLA 25 months after Katrina.
I really love this show and am glad it's back.
The only thing that seems out of place is the chef in NY. I wonder if she ends up back in NOLA before it's all over.

Anyone else watching this or am I alone?

TIVO question about SD to HD

TiVoCommunity Forum Recent Threads - Mon, 09/24/2012 - 10:18
I wasn't sure which forum to put this one on so I choose this one cause the title sounded the friendliest.:)

I have a TIVO series 2 with Lifetime.

I'm renting a condo in Bonita Springs,FL this winter for 6 wks.

The Condo has a HDTV connected to cable.

I can hook up my TIVO to cable but then the TV would be only in SD.

Any suggestions as to what I could do to get HDTV?

The first guy with that surfboard machine is the perfect example of what I was talking about last week with hating when the Sharks collude.

Having them fight all over each other to get a deal done was very entertaining!

I agree with the Sharks when they were telling that guy with the cheater app that he should market it differently to widen the market (and make it more pallatable).

Tivo loosing its place

TiVoCommunity Forum Recent Threads - Mon, 09/24/2012 - 09:35
I'm a long time Tivo owner, back to '99. On my Premier, when I watch a still recording video like NFL football (as an example) and back out to view another program in now playing, Tivo often does not "remember" the point where I left off. When I back out of the video using the back arrow, I can see the "resume playing" but when I come back later, it's gone and I have to skip through the program to get back to where I left off. I've tried pausing before leaving, using the back arrow and pressing Tivo to get out, the results are the same. This doesn't seem to happen with my TivoHD nor do I recall this problem with my past stand alone's or DTivo. Am I doing something wrong? When watching 2 football games that are still recording, this is really annoying!

TiVo Announces Settlement of Patent Litigation With Verizon

TiVoCommunity Forum Recent Threads - Mon, 09/24/2012 - 07:28
http://finance.yahoo.com/news/tivo-a...120000026.html

ALVISO, CA--(Marketwire - Sep 24, 2012) - TiVo Inc. ( NASDAQ : TIVO ) announced today that it has settled its pending patent litigation with Verizon Communications Inc. and that the companies have entered into a mutual patent licensing arrangement. Under the terms of the settlement, Verizon will provide TiVo total compensation worth at least $250.4 million. The payments from Verizon to TiVo shall be comprised of a $100 million initial cash payment followed by recurring quarterly payments totaling an additional $150.4 million through July 2018. If the companies pursue certain commercial initiatives prior to December 21, 2012, up to $29.4 million of the payments made by Verizon would be subject to a credit of an equal amount. In addition to the guaranteed compensation, Verizon will also pay monthly license fees through July 2018 for each Verizon DVR subscriber in excess of certain pre-determined levels.

In addition to the cash payments described above, Verizon and TiVo are exploring, among other things, future distribution of Internet video services developed through Verizon's joint venture with Redbox by making content distributed via that service part of the diverse selection of linear and broadband-delivered content accessible to users of TiVo's retail DVR products.
As part of the settlement, TiVo and Verizon agreed to dismiss all pending litigation between the companies with prejudice. The parties also entered into a cross license of their respective patent portfolios in the advanced television field.

"We are pleased to reach an agreement with Verizon which underscores the significant value our distribution partners derive from TiVo's technological innovations and our shareholders derive from our investments in protecting TiVo's intellectual property," said Tom Rogers, CEO and President of TiVo. "We also look forward to working together on a variety of future opportunities as we continue to expand the content choices available to TiVo subscribers. As with prior settlements, we also benefit by being able to operate our business under license from Verizon and by avoiding future legal expenses that we would have incurred during and after trial. Furthermore, we believe this settlement positions us well with respect to future enforceability of our patents."
