To try to be as succinct as possible:
My Series 3 hasn't successfully connected since 1/23/13, though I just noticed this failure two days ago. It's been connected to the same home wireless network for years, and there have been no recent changes in terms of cable modem, router, or computer.
I am getting an N-17 error. The preparing for contact completes, but the "call" gets stuck at the negotiating step. So far in terms of trouble shooting I have:
a. Power cycled modem, router, TiVo, wireless adapter connected to TiVo, and computer -- multiple times.
b. Logged into my router. I'm not that tech savvy about router administration, but I did verify that there has been no firmware update.
c. Tried switching from wireless to ethernet connection for the Series 3. Same failure. Also tried ethernet cable directly from Series 3 to cable modem (bypassing router). Same failure.
d. Tried changing network information (i.e., specified IP address, let the Series 3 choose the IP address, etc). Same failure.
e. Tried connecting phone line instead, but unfortunately I have VOIP service (Phone Power) and I don't think it's compatible with dial up modems.
f. Called TiVo customer support. Spoke with a very nice guy at length, but sadly the call ended with no progress after we went through the same stuff I had already tried. (I think the only new things we tried during the call were unplugging the wireless adapter at both ends for half a minute as well as turning off the computer and using the computer's IP address for the Series 3.)
g. Spoke with Comcast's typically inept customer support. I was mostly trying to find out whether it's possible that Comcast changed something a week ago that is causing this problem. Are they blocking specific IP addresses, for example, and that's what's causing the problem. Basically the Comcast rep could only follow a very basic script and then said she could provide no additional support because it was "clear the problem was not with Comcast equipment" but rather my own.
Apart from taking my TiVo to someone else's home to see if I can get it to connect using their network or phone line, I'm out of ideas as to what to try. I did look at the TiVo support article about checking for blocked ports (I'm pretty sure that's not the issue as my router doesn't have any ports blocked and the TiVo reports that the port check on my network revealed that all necessary ports were open) and IP addresses. Quite honestly I don't know how to verify whether Comcast might be blocking IP addresses since it seems like it's impossible to actually get a knowledgeable person on the phone there. I tried pinging the list of IP addresses in the TiVo support article and got a 100% failure rate on the several I tried, but I also tried pinging the same IP addresses on my work network with the same results.
Any suggestions for what else I might try?
No point in doing a weekly thread for this, since it looks like there's not much interest. The last 2 bachelors have been pretty blah. I don't think that Tierra is smart enough to plan a stunt like to get a rose, but if she is, kudos to her. She was my front-runner to win, but now I'd like to see her gone. I'm all for drama, but she's going over-the-top.

I would have sent her packing right there, but I'm shallow :D I have no rooting interest in this show anymore, but I'll continue to watch to see who Sean ends up with for the next 6 months.
I have been with Tivo since the first box and finally in 2013 I have stepped up to streaming between boxes with MOCA. My house is newer and wired with coax properly. There is a splitter outside, one for cable modem in my office and the other for my cable entry point in my basement. I am using one splitter in the basement to feed both of my Premieres. My MOCA is working perfectly now. Signal strength on first premeiere in the 90's, the second, low 80's to upper 70's. I want to add another splitter to send the signal up to the attic where the coax is for the rest of the house. I have a TivoHD upstairs and would like to expand once the Tivo Mini is released. I am hesitant to call Comcast to ask them for amplifiers or MOCA questions about speed and bandwidth. Right now I am not paying additional outlet charges or renting any of their equipment, save for the two cable cards. I am about to split the signal with a 2mhz splitter to send the feed up to the attic. Based on nothing, I assume the signal strength will be compromised. What is the best thing I can add (or do) that will allow me to truly have whole house MOCA, with acceptable signal strength, and not pay Comcast for additional outlets. I am already paying for their highest tier of programming and internet.
Kind of a bleh episode for me. Some funny moments as always but seemed to be more of a filler episode that didn't advance the main storyline.
Does anyone know. I talked to sales rep on the phone the other day and they said it was compatible but given conflicting information from the website (or rather its unclear)
I need more concrete information atleast some tivo community input.
So anyone have any information.... I'm still mad the latest version is cable Card Only... how are us Free Basic Cable people Suppose to live (And I still use my HD antenna to pick up all the awesome HD Broadcast TV~)
Do any TiVo models support UPnP? I am wondering because of the recently released information regarding security holes in the UPnP code.

About a week ago i bought a premier xl4. I have it connected to my router via Wireless G adapter. The Tivo loses internet at least twice a day. This is particularly annoying because i am transferring all the progams from another tivo (my Tivo HDXL) to the new xl4. When it loses connection, i have to reboot the tivo to find that all the pending transfers have vanished from the to do list and I have to re-start the transfers from the HDXL one by one (only to have the issue come back again). Does anyone know why the internet connection keeps dropping? I have to other HDXL Tivos that are also connected via Wireless G adapter and never lose connection. Additonally does anyone know why when i reboot the xl4 all the pending transfers from the other dvrs are just gone and I have to re transfer them all one by one? It's extremely time consuming and frustrating. This xl4 has really been problematic. Im convinced the hdxl was a better dvr in terms of reliability and stability...Thanks!
Granted they are "Developer Community Forums" but you would think Tivo would pay attention to them to see if they can help answer any questions for NEW developers. They have a new SDK for develpoers to build apps that run on their boxes and they completely ignore the developers there that are asking questions. No wonder there are so few people willing to develop anything for this box. I do love my Tivo, hate the lack of professionalism with the staff.
My Tivo unit started making loud noises from the HD and crashed. I thought I could replace with a 2TB WD AV-GP WD20EURS drive, but now reading some posts - I'm not so certain due to 2TB size and the HD model. Before sending back the HD to Amazon and buying a preloaded HD from Weaknees or DVD-Dude, is it possible to use this drive as a replacement?

My network consists of an Airport Extreme router, a lot of switches hardwired and 2 Airport Expresses which function as range extenders. When in areas where the Airport Expresses are in play extending the wireless network there is severe video stutter using the Tivo Stream. If I deactivate the AEs then the stream works fine. Work around is to download the show to the iOs device and then start watching after a few minutes, this avoids the stutters.
Just wanted to pass this along to others considering the Tivo Stream who might have similar network setups.
I have a Series 3 (OLED) TiVo that has a dead hard drive and it needs to be replaced. This unit is not heavily used & basically just in a basement rec room for when guests/family are using the area.
I am looking at some 250GB & 500GB SATA replacements, but was also contemplating maybe getting a SSD drive and maybe experiment with it in this S3 unit. If I get it and it doesn't work, I would plan to just stick this SSD drive in a custom PC so no biggie. I also realize its probably not cost effective at all to go with a SSD vs a SATA, but am willing to take the hit & try it out if it maybe helps speed up performance.
Has anyone had any success with these in TiVos? I have used WinMFS before to put an image on a previous S3 drive and did it successfully. Can the same be done here? Or is it maybe more involved and trickier?
Is there anyway to increase the buffer size on internet video viewing like you tube?
My internet is not fast enough, so if I try to watch HD internet video, it's very choppy. If I can put it on pause for a few minutes and let it buffer, then viewing it wouldn't be so choppy. However, it seems that Tivo would only buffer a small amount. So if I pause for 10 sec, vs. 3 minuts, it's still the same amount of video buffered.
Is it possible to see your saved files from your Tivo box?
Yesterday evening, I turned on the TV and found all channels were mostly black with a tiny bit of "noise" garbage every now and then. Recordings for several hours showed the same thing, as did testing every channel I had. Nothing - period - showed up.
I restarted the TiVo and problem was gone. Tonight, same problem.
I'm a FiOS user with a year old Premier XL and have been happy up to this point. Any ideas?
I've seen posts here about not having TiVo suggestions record, and I have called TiVo several time on the issue. They had me reboot, delete and redo thumbs, delete and re download program info, etc. Now I can see a few suggestions in the Browse TV & Movies screen, but only two or three, and no suggestions show in the To Do list. The other day I actually saw a suggestion record but the recoding ended and to my surprise it did not save.
I'm seeing the exact same behavior on 2 new Tivos. I wish they would fix this.:(
I trying to create a favorites list of channels but it does not appear to be working. I selected several channels to be added to my favorites by clicking the thumbs up but only a few channels stuck. If I go back in and re-select a channel to be a favorite...it does not added it to the list. What is going on?
