Enter Webz beta release - web browser for the TiVo!

TiVoCommunity Forum Recent Threads - Sun, 01/06/2013 - 16:16
Today I'm announcing "Enter Webz" - the world's first web browser for the TiVo DVR.
This is just a Beta release.

This release is available for download from http://David.Blackledge.com/tivo/enterwebz.
More information is in the documentation.

Just download, unzip, and run the .bat file, then look in "Music, Photos, and More" or "Showcases and Apps" or equivalent, depending on your TiVo model.
You'll get Enter Webz, and a couple of shortcuts to Google and Archive.org (where you can listen to public domain music, or watch public domain videos and movies on your TV).

This is free for your personal home use. I plan to set up a fixed-ip server in the future.

It's ugly and buggy still, but today's the last day of my vacation, so I may not get a chance to work on this for a while.

Why a web browser for the TiVo DVR?

Quick lookups

Google, Definr.com, IMDB, Wikipedia
One-off pages for other Apps

Google Authentication for Google APIs (the main inspiration for creating Enter Webz... I used Enter Webz to register Pandora’s activation code on my new TiVo Premiere!)
Display a related URL for dynamic app content (e.g. from an RSS feed)
Application help pages
Instant HME Apps for some websites

weather.gov and wunderground.com
Gmail mobile or Gmail basic html
Google Voice mobile (mp3 download blocked)
Google Calendar mobile...hopefully soon
Facebook mobile
tivocommunity.com forums!
Archive.org’s public domain content:
mp3s ( playlists of live concerts; audio books), texts, videos (classic TV; movies)
Feedburner XSLT-formatted rss feeds
Launch other HME Apps

Special URLs launch apps from domain names (vs. static IPs of “Manually add a server”)
Can be configured to present any URL like it is a stand-alone app.

Directivo satellite gear upgrade

TiVoCommunity Forum Recent Threads - Sun, 01/06/2013 - 15:14
I started another thread http://www.tivocommunity.com/tivo-vb...38#post9459238 where I asked for help about some odd behavior by my very old DSR6000 DirecTivo DVR. Considering the ages of all my gear I'm guessing the best answer is an upgrade. I'm concerned about making a mistake by just taking the standard offer by DirectTV since I am a stickler for picture quality. I would appreciate any advice as to what I should ask for. A call to DirecTV resulted in an offer to upgrade for a net cost of $19.95 but I didn't get any receiver model numbers. Any advice regarding upgrades?

Premiere Boot Loop

TiVoCommunity Forum Recent Threads - Sun, 01/06/2013 - 11:25
So I decided to upgrade my Premiere's hard drive from stock to a 2TB WD20EARX. I used JMFS to copy, then expand, then supersize. I put the new drive in the Premiere and it wouldn't boot. It would go "Welcome! Starting Up..." for 10-20 seconds then all the lights would flash and it would reboot back into the same screen. So I read a little and figured that the culprit must be the idle time on these newer WD drives. So I used wdidle3 /D, which still had the TiVo rebooting. And wdidle3 /S300 had the same affect. So I thought "I'll try the original drive" and it had the same restarting problem. I was very careful when removing and inserting drives into the unit. I can't even get a kickstart code in. Any ideas would be much appreciated. Thanks in advanced!

For quite a while now every ATK that is recorded has a completely different show title and description than what the episode is. What's up with that? Anyone else notice this?

Thoughts on the new DirecTV TiVo

TiVoCommunity Forum Recent Threads - Sun, 01/06/2013 - 10:26
I am thinking of possibly switching from Comcast to DirecTV. I love my TiVos (Series 3 & two Premieres), but Comcast's billing is HORRIBLE and it seems like they raise the rates every month.

I see how DirecTV FINALLY has the new TiVo based DVR equipment, but from the initial looks of it, it seems like a 1/2 baked product & a complete disappointment compared to some of their own other equipment (Specifically the new GENIE system). No Netflix, no media transfer, etc.

Is there any real reason to pick the DirecTV Tivo over their own GENIE hardware? Or is the DirecTV TiVo really just a piece of junk as it appears to be?

Transfer shows between tivos?

TiVoCommunity Forum Recent Threads - Sun, 01/06/2013 - 09:16
We had two Tivos, one in the living room and one in the bedroom for a while. Both series 2's. And we could shuffle around shows as needed.

The living room Tivo gave up the ghost after 9 years, last year. It was replaced by a Tivo Premiere, the one with 2 tuners. HD upgrade, and all was good.

Except that EVERY SINGLE SHOW on the Premiere was untransferrable/the red-slash-circle thing next to EVERY show. Transferring was now a one way deal, Series 2 in the bedroom --> Tivo Premiere. I could pull shows BACK to the Series 2 from the Premiere, but that was it.

An annoyance, and several searches at the time said it was A Comcast/copyright thing, and there wasn't much I could do about it. Fine. We lived.

I got a new Premiere for Xmas, the 4 tuner one. And now I'm stuck with a dilemma. I'd like to replace the 2-tuner in the living room with the 4 tuner, putting the 2-tuner into the bedroom. But how do I get my shows off of the 2 tuner and onto the 4 tuner? Will they transfer between Premieres? Has Comcast in Atlanta modified their transfer policy? I LOATHE to call Comcast, just because 95% of the time, they're clueless about things. But, I have to call to get a cablecard for the new Tivo regardless.

Any insight?

Hbo don't work on fios

TiVoCommunity Forum Recent Threads - Sun, 01/06/2013 - 08:45
I have 3 TiVo primer dvr's. all 3 have cable cards. HBO only works on one tv

The living room tv use to work and stopped working like 6 months ago. Have have tried 3 different cable cards in the living room and Verizon cannot make HBO work

The master bedroom HBO has always worked. This is the only TV HBO works on.

My son's room we just installed and HBO wont work in there. Not really a big deal because I would have blocked it anyway. I was just hoping if it did work I could have swapped that unit into the living room.

Verizon is now reporting this issue is a TiVo problem. Any one else having this issue?

The master bedroom TiVo is on software
The living room is on software
My son's room is on software

All 3 are running the same software so not sure why one would work and the others don't if its a TiVo issue

"Switching tuner" problem?

TiVoCommunity Forum Recent Threads - Sun, 01/06/2013 - 08:07
I know tivo instructions say, "pause a tuner" before switching tuners. Here's what I think is a problem. If I switch tuners without pausing and immediately return to the first tuner it has jumped ahead to live TV. I'm convinced the old software remained at the last playing spot (actually moved ahead the amount of time I was on second tuner). Is this the programed action or is this a change? If a change, it is a very bad one.

A second problem is watching a program with a delay (say 15mins) and without warning the program ends and jumps to a record scheduled programs if both tuners are required to record the schedule. Again, I thought the old software would allow you to finish watching whatever time was left on the program before it reached the scheduled recording time. E.g. if you had 15 mins of delay playback left, you could watch that even thought 2 programs were being recorded. There was at least a question about the upcoming recording.

Live broadcast recording?

TiVoCommunity Forum Recent Threads - Sat, 01/05/2013 - 23:56
I just got my Tivo today.

I'm looking through various sports programs, such as the Australian Open (tennis).

How do I tell if an upcoming broadcast will be a live broadcast or not?

I know the entire tournament is on ESPN 2, but I think the To Do list on my Tivo is going to record both live broadcast and the tape-delayed broadcasts.

Multiswitch Problem with Music Channels Only

TiVoCommunity Forum Recent Threads - Sat, 01/05/2013 - 22:57
I have a DirecTV HD TiVo that I upgraded to from the basic DirecTV HD DVR as soon as the TiVo became available last year. I am getting a Multiswitch problem message when selecting some (but not all) of the music channels (and only the music channels). I have not found any threads that seem to address this specific issue. Anyone have any ideas?

desktop file to flash drive

I would like to send my brother a 2 hour program (app. 15 gb) that I have already transferred to PC using Tivo Desktop ver 2.8.3.
Can I just copy it to a flash drive and send it out?
Or, will I need to convert it in any way for him to play back on his computer?

Thanks in advance for your responses.

Celebrity Apprentice.

I just got a Tivo.

I've been searching for various shows and adding them to my season pass.

I just tried searching for "Celebrity Apprentice", but no show comes up.

Does this happen to anyone else?

Will it find the new season when it starts airing in March 2013?

Series 2 question: identify this accessory

TiVoCommunity Forum Recent Threads - Sat, 01/05/2013 - 20:41
Hello, my wife is cleaning out one of the rooms in our house, and asking me to identify some stuff, and tell her if we need it or not. One thing she handed me puzzles me, as I don't recognize what it is, or what it's for.

I have a feeling it something that is used with her Series 2 TiVo, so that's why I thought I pose my question in this forum. It's a cable and on one end is an ethernet adapter, and the other is a USB adapter. In other words, you could plug one end of the cable into an ethernet port, and the other end could be plugged into a USB port.

Does this sound familiar to anybody?

I'm still confused about TIVO Stream set-up

TiVoCommunity Forum Recent Threads - Sat, 01/05/2013 - 20:09
I'm still very confused. We bought the Stream and the Moca adapter from TIVO. Each has instructions but they don't show both together. I made a crude drawing of my network below.

I have cable internet coming into my office/spare room. It goes into my cable modem and then to my wireless adapter. That broadcasts a signal to all my devices (laptops, iPads, and my TIVO wireless-N adapters).

In my living room I have cable TV coming in from the wall and into the TIVO box. The box has a dual cable card in it. Wireless N adapter is hooked up to the TIVO.

As I see it I would need to install a Moca adapter in my office/spare room directly connected to the modem and use the filter.

I assume I also need a Moca adapter installed in my living room hooked up to the TIVO itself.

Assuming those are correct....where does the Stream hook up? In my office or the living room? If it's the office does that mean both the Moca adapter and the Stream need to connect to the back of my wireless router?

I'm so confused I'm about ready to return all my Stream equipment.

Bering Sea Gold - Season Two Thread

Well it looks like some people are just doomed to make the same mistakes over and over.

Either that or Zeke is just a glutton for punishment. Imagine hiring Emily for another season after she demonstrated that her greatest talent was "Drama Queen".

If Verne and Scott don't come to blows again I'll be surprised.

Did I see correctly that the Christine Rose is still relying on "rowing" with the bucket rather than actually proceeding under power?

With all the dredgers being in hock up to their eyeballs I'm not sure I understand Gold Fever.

I need some help deciding on what to do. someone please help.....

Someone posted this (see below in the” ”) in one of the sites I belong to on fb but I just don't get how/if it would work for me since I don't have cable. I have internet (for my netflix and hulu) and just have basic tv. But I would like something that could record shows I watch on tv since a lot of times I miss them.

”FREE Lifetime service for TIVO.Yes, no monthly charge, EVER! However the cost of buying DVR box is $150. we recently changed to Directtv dvr's and have no use for this. But TIVO is giving me until 1/20/13 to either gift or resell before we cancel completely. ANYONE?”

And I have also found out out is a tivo series 2 model # TCD540040. I don't know of that matters but thought I should give all the info I have on it

Please help me decide

Connections for XL4 with Tuning Adapter AND Moca?

TiVoCommunity Forum Recent Threads - Sat, 01/05/2013 - 17:15
Need some help. Moca works with other TiVo, XL4 works with wireless. But wont connect with Moca. What are the proper connections with a tuning card involved? I have tried a splitter between the wall and tuning card, with one branch going right to the XL4 box.

And doesn't the tuning card need to be connected to the TiVo, too?

Glo Remote

TiVoCommunity Forum Recent Threads - Sat, 01/05/2013 - 16:37
Is the Glo remote always visible in the dark? I am thinking of purchasing the remote for my Premiere because I can never find the standard one in a dark room.

Or does the remote only "GLO" when a button is pressed?
