Tivo Premiere will not transfer shows to my computer

TiVoCommunity Forum Recent Threads - Fri, 02/15/2013 - 20:49
I have had a Tivo Premiere for 2 years. During this time I have used the "Tivo Desktop" application and also kmttg to transfer shows from my Tivo to my PC.

I have never had a problem with this....... until now.

Tivo desktop and kmttg are both able to see the "now playing" list on my Tivo. However, neither of them can transfer shows off of the Tivo at all.

I restarted my computer.... that did not help.

I restarted my Tivo..... that did not help.

I went to Tivo.com just to make sure that the settings on this Tivo are enabled to transfer shows..... everything is fine with that.

So how do I figure out what is wrong? I cannot think of anything else.

Your help is greatly appreciated.

What kind of Download to device speeds is everyone seeing?

On my iphone 4S i am only downloading about 5-6Mbps a sec(600k)

I dont believe it is my 2.4 network as laptops at a further distance do about 50-60Mbps...

Not sure if it is the iphone or what... Streaming is usually ok unless i get too far

Help programming THR22 remote with HR2x DVR

TiVoCommunity Forum Recent Threads - Fri, 02/15/2013 - 19:44
We had been TiVo and DTiVo users for 13 years, and in that time we didn't think we'd ever need to learn how to use another remote. Last year I replaced our aging DTiVos with HR24s. After just simply too long a time wanting to throw the RC65 remote out the window every time I use it, I decided to try the THR22's peanut with the DirecTV DVR. Strangely, there is almost no information anywhere on the web about other people trying this other than simply advising that "some TiVo-specific buttons won't work". Yeah, and?

So far I've managed to get it to work on RF by first activating its RF then setting the DVR back to IR and then once again to RF. But that's about it. The thumbs don't work, as expected, but rather surprisingly the "Live TV" button doesn't work. Because I don't have the TiVo UI running, I have been unable to program my TV's power or my Yamaha receiver's power or volume buttons into it. Do I have to use the 961+xxxxxx procedure? How? Our old TiVo remote had some limited learning abilities and I was able to program in small macros to turn the TV and receiver on and off at the same time; I don't believe anything like that is possible with the DirecTV code set (the RC65 remote can't do discreet "off" for the Yamaha).

Anybody have any idea how to program the THR remote without a THR22 DVR present?

Check the tax on your TiVo receipt

TiVoCommunity Forum Recent Threads - Fri, 02/15/2013 - 18:36
I was sitting here doing my taxes and pulled out my TiVo XL4 receipt from September. The tax looked odd to me so I got out my calculator to figure it out. Here's what my receipt says:

TiVo Product Lifetime $399.99 tax $49.00 Total $448.99
TiVo Premiere XL4 $349.99 tax $0.00 Total $349.99
Wireless G Adapter $0.00 tax $0.00 Total $0.00
TiVo P. E w/Service letter $0.00 tax $0.00 Total $0.00

Sub Total $749.98
Shipping $0.00
Tax $49.00
Order Total $798.98

Now in L.A. tax was 8.75% at the time. So, $399.99 x 8.75% = 34.99

Not $49.00

So I called TiVo and was on the phone for over an hour while they tried to figure it out. They sort of came up with the idea that I was charged tax on the MSRP of $499.99 for the XL4 and $59.99 for the Wireless G. Well, that would work, but that's not what my receipt says, AND the Wireless G was supposed to be free.

So they put me through to a supervisor named Raymond, who was a total jerk. He told me I was wrong several times. He told me that tax in L.A. was 9% (it is now, but wasn't then). He told me that tax on $399.99 was $49.00, it's not, it's $34.99. He kept insisting he was right and I was wrong. I finally asked for his superior and he told me that HE was the supervisor and he didn't answer to anyone else. After dogging him more, he said he would have someone call me back. I hate that. No, unacceptable. So I finally got the number for corporate.

Before I called them, I called the California Board of Equalization, told them the story and they basically said that TiVo is wrong and I should file a complaint. They said that a consumer MUST be able to extrapolate the tax they paid from the amounts listed on the receipt. So if the tax is based on the MSRP, that price needs to be on the receipt. They also verified that they can't charge tax on "free" items.

So then I called corporate, got a really nice guy named David. He told me the same thing, that the tax is on the MSRP for the XL4 and the G adapter. He said because it's a "bundled" package, they can do that...not unlike a cell phone package.

Well, the guy at the BOE told me that the only "bundle" that can do that, is a cellphone, not any other equipment.

So now they're looking into the matter and will supposedly get back to me on Tuesday.

If I'm right and they're wrong, they're going to have to do a lot of refunding to customers. So check your receipts and see what you paid and if it makes sense to you...make sure the tax is right according to the price listed on the receipt.

I'd be interested to hear if others have the same problem.

Selling brand new in box Tivo Stream

TiVoCommunity Forum Recent Threads - Fri, 02/15/2013 - 18:15
Well, I got one used and... unbeknownst to me, my wife got me a brand new one for Valentine's Day. Whoops!

She paid full price, and yes, I could return it... but I'd have to ask her for the receipt, if she even kept it, and, well, I'd rather not have that particular conversation or suffer its consequences, if you know what I mean. :D

I'd rather take a modest loss and "pay it forward" a tiny bit by giving it to someone on the forum.

I've sold boxes on here before, and I have a 100% ebay feedback rating as well if references are an issue.

I'd offer it up for $110 including shipping to the contiguous 48 states. That price is net to me - paypal, Dwolla, popmoney, mail me a check/money order, whatever: as soon as it clears, I ship via Priority Mail (2-3 days typical delivery).

This is a brand new, never opened, never used Tivo Stream - as it's just the sealed box, I didn't think it necessary to take pics, but if you want some I can certainly oblige.

PMing me on here emails me instantly, so I should respond expeditiously. Thanks for your interest!

Replacement Premiere coming, what to do next?

TiVoCommunity Forum Recent Threads - Fri, 02/15/2013 - 15:14
I have a replacement Premiere coming due to a loud fan issue. In my current Premiere, I've already installed a WD20EURS 2TB drive. I'll obviously reinstall the original 500GB drive back in the current Premiere before I send it back, but I'm wondering if I can just drop in the WD20EURS into the new Premiere as soon as I receive it?

The only potential issue that I think I'll have is that the M-card "pairing" information is stored on the hard-drive, but I'm installing the hard-drive into new hardware. Can I just boot up the new Premiere with the WD20EURS, then call the Comcast M-card number to "re-pair" the M-card with the new hardware?

Any other issues to be aware of?

Hooking Premiere up to the internet

TiVoCommunity Forum Recent Threads - Fri, 02/15/2013 - 14:14
So my Premiere 4 just came today and I'm in the process of trying to set it up. Comcast is coming with the M-card tomorrow, but in the meantime I thought I'd do the basic setup.

Now, when it comes to connecting the TiVo to the internet I REALLY, REALLY don't want to blow $60 on the adapter. But how do I hook up my TiVo with ethernet when my TiVo is in one room and my router/modem/comcrap equipment is in the other room?

transferring .mov files to tivo

TiVoCommunity Forum Recent Threads - Fri, 02/15/2013 - 10:26
I have upgraded to Tivo Desktop Plus so I can watch my .mov home movies on my tivo. I can see the movies as transferable on my tivo, and when I click transfer it says they will be put in the To-Do list. However, they don't download and when I check the recording history it says "not transferred" because it is either copy protected (can't be since they are my home movies), not the right format (they are .mov which tivo desktop plus is supposed to support), or moved (which they are not). Any ideas?!?! Thx!

Empty NPL - Shows deleted as soon as they are recorded

TiVoCommunity Forum Recent Threads - Fri, 02/15/2013 - 08:27
Here's a new one that I ran across this week.

On one of my Premieres, the number of shows available on the Now Playing List would be empty even though I had recorded something. Looking at the the recording history showed that the shows were be deleted because of "Space Needed". As soon as I would record a show, it would get deleted no matter what show on whatever channel.

At first, I suspected a hard drive error, ran the kickstart tests, but all seem fine. Then I remembered that I had clicked on both the Netflix and Flingo icons earlier in the week but didn't really think about it. I never went through the NetFlix logon process, but looking at settings showed that me Premiere was linked even no account information about NetFlix had been entered. I deactivated Netflix & rebooted, and still had the same problem. Finally, I decided to Delete & clear everything and set of the Premiere from scratch. After I re-setup my Tivo, everything went back to normal and shows stayed in my NPL.

I suspect that the incomplete Netflix launch chewed up gobs of space on my hard drive and that is what caused my shows to be deleted so quickly.

No signal switching from Cable Card to Cable Box (Comcast)

TiVoCommunity Forum Recent Threads - Fri, 02/15/2013 - 00:28
I have had a Tivo Premiere for a while and always used a cable card with no problem. I have Comcast and live in the Chicago area.

Recently I had to downgrade my cable to the free cable offered by my condo building. I have a small black box from Comcast that receives analog signal. When the cable is hooked up to my TV I have no problem receiving the signal. I receive a variety of channels from including USA, Animal Planet, TNT, ION, etc.

However, I have not been able to hook the box up to my TiVo and receive a signal.

I have gone through the guided setup several times. The TiVo recognizes a signal and is able to pull all the channel/program information. When I am on a channel, I see all the ''channel' information, but no signal. I just see the searching for signal on this cable channel message.

I feel like I am bouncing back and forth between Comcast and TiVo and have no idea what to do.

Will I ever be able to use TiVo Premier with this basic cable box?

Wow, looks like we might see the documentary as the series finale after all.

As for the rest of this week: that was...one of the more awful hours of television I've seen in some time. Why couldn't Andy have died at sea?
