I am intrigued by this TiVo Mini device and it's ability to allow sharing of a single box throughout the home.
I currently have 3 HDTV's, each with a TiVo Premiere box, each with Product Lifetime Service. One of the boxes I upgraded myself and installed a 2 TB hard drive. 2 are wired with ethernet, 1 is using a TiVo wireless-N USB adapter. I think i should be able to net about $1200-$1300 for the trio if I sell them on ebay.
Looking at the investment and capabilities, I am considering buying a 4-tuner TiVo Premiere XL4 plus 2 TiVo Mini boxes. Via the TiVo site, this would cost me just over $1300.
Being pretty close to a wash, is it worth making this change to a single shared TiVo across all 3 TVs? Or just pass on it and wait another couple years for whatever is next? Too bad the Mini does not work with the TiVo's that I already own :( Thanks!
Can the Mini view shows from TiVo Desktop?
If not, that seems like a big limitation for those of us that use TiVo Desktop to store older recordings, DVDs, and downloaded videos. All TiVo would have to do is set it to be able to MRS as well as MRV.
How can Stan be so stupid? He knows why Nina slept with the Rezident, but he doesn't realize she is doing the same to him? She is doing it to protect herself and for leverage but stupid Stan is smitten.
This episode took place 8 months after the last episode but Granny was still bruised.
I think Philip had sex with Irina to provide evidence she was raped by the Polish Liberation guy, so although the sex was part of the mission, I don't think it was the only reason.
Was DNA matching a part of rape kits in 1981?
I was surprised Elizabeth knew about Philip and Irina's romantic past. I thought they were not supposed to talk about their past lives.
I already checked my capacitors on both units. They look fine. I replaced both hard drives with WD AV-GP 1 TB AV Hard Drives. I still get random reboots and most of the time freezes on boot screen.
It seems to happen when watching off the hard drive with already recorded material or the 30 minute buffer.
I tried all of the kickstarts already.
My input signals are in the mid to high 70s. I only use OTA. No Cable.
Thanks for any help.
Packer! WLHUNG always makes me lol
good episode...must have been originally planned around the Dwigt spin off, no?
Sooooooo here's a question.
Instead of upgrading the hard drive my old TiVo HD that is currently paired with a WD 500GB expander, I bought privately or via third party reseller a new/used/refurb 2-tuner Premiere or Premiere XL, would TiVo let me swap the TSNs on the account and keep the 6.95 "Service Only" plan I have on that unit?
Could I please get Sheldon to organize my closet? :)
Bernadette: Sheldon, I've been cooking all day.
Sheldon: Well ... now don't you feel silly.
Bernadette [to Howard]: Show him the closet
What is the normal or range of transfer rates premiere to premiere using MOCA? Thanks
It seems like the Mini should herald in a new era for TiVo where MSD is no longer something they need to offer. It just complicates their pricing and creates customer confusion. In my opinion, they really should just make lifetime on Premiere DVRs $399 for all customers. I suspect that the number of purchasers buying multiple-DVRs will be very small from this point forward. After a 6-tuner is released the number will shrink even more.
Is anyone else having a problem with the clock on the mini? My 4XL is correct. I've rebooted the mini, reconnected to the server, etc. My clock is exactly five hours fast. System info on mini shows product lifetime. Today's date is also five hours fast, daylight savings time but shows the zip code is not set. Last service connection is also five hours fast. I don't see a guided setup to set the zip code. Any ideas for a fix would be helpful. Thanks in advance
How's the Hulu+ experience on the Mini?
I have a subscription primarily because my daughter uses it while away at college. I assume its a lot more "Roku-like" on the Mini versus the Premiere. I'm a fan of how Hulu+ is integrated into the unified search, browse TV & Movies, etc. I have found a show or to I've decided to watch because I have Hulu+ (e.g., The Following).
It didn't occur to me until I set it up and it downloaded data...
I bet there's something in Tivo's agreement with Tribune that makes them pay on a per device basis. So, they couldn't download the data to the Premiere and just "echo" it on the mini, although that would make total sense. I bet the mini looks and says, "hey, where am I?" and then downloads its own data. Because Tivo's paying per device, you pay too.
Of course, it could be like having an iPod touch and having to pay for upgrades
because your accountant told you you had to...
Just two hours ago, Igot my Tivo mini. I can already tell the simplicity and feature set will blow anything else away. Here are the instant wins for me:
1. Same awesome Tivo interface that I'm used to. Well, basically... we still use SDUI on our Premiere because we're old school. Still, everything's in the right place.
2. No need for another Comcast cable box or card. no extra "outlet" fee and no box rental. The two of those fees together mean I'll recoup my lifetime purchase in 10 months.
3. Everything streams... even the "do not transfer" content, which I can't figure out for the life of me why some of it is flagged that way. It doesn't matter to the mini.
4. Zero setup. I literally plugged the thing in, turned it on, told it to set itself up, and it did. No configuration - it found my premiere and there it worked.
5. No noise, low power. I had a Series 2 with lifetime limping along with a Comcast DTA box on that TV, and it was amazing the difference in sound. I would imagine that my electricity usage will dip with a solid state device on that plug instead of a spinning drive device (that's a half decade old.)
6. Same bat channels, same bat content. I don't have to wonder what's stored on what box. It's all in one place, and the mini just shares it.
It's not for everyone. I'm a Tivo snob since 1999, so I'm weird like that.
The things that I hope Tivo will do soon:
1. Dynamic Tuner Allocation. It is a little onerous to have to give up a tuner ALL THE TIME for the extender, even when I'm not using the box. I guess they want to avoid turning on the extender and getting a message that says "I'm sorry, all four tuners are in use. What recording do you want to cancel?"
2. Netflix and Amazon. To be able to have those apps would be golden.
Is there any downside to ordering a Premiere XL4 from someone else, i.e. an Amazon affiliated seller? It would be a bit cheaper, and the payment part is easier, since I'm already set up for Amazon.
I just looked at my two tuner Premiere from my Mini and the My Shows list is showing up as an SD screen. Has anyone else tried this? When I view both of my Elites the HD screen is shown. So I wonder why the two tuner Premiere isn't showing the same thing?
I'm curious if anyone has put a 3rd Mini on their 4 tuner TiVo yet? Originally we were told that there would be a limit of two units until dynamic tuner allocation arrived, but that limitation is not in print anywhere I can find on the TiVo website.
I am happy enough with the Mini that I am contemplating a 3rd one for the guest room.
Sorry, but I am kinda new to this. I have a used Tivo HD with Lifetime upgraded to a 1TB Drive. Everything works but it is used.
Please IM me offers.
I just bought an XL4 and the Roxio Titanium 11 to transfer files from my tivo to my mac. I set everything up but my Tivo Transfer does not "see" my DVR. If i run the Tivo Transfer program and leave it on for a couple hours, eventually the Tivo DVR will show up. Anyone else having this problem?
I have contacted customer service and we've tried everything, checked all that everything needed to be enabled was, checked the firewalls, restarted tivo and computer, Checked Media Access Key, did a bunch of other stuff and still the same problem. My hardware and connection work fine. I downloaded the tivo desktop on the PC and it does "see," my DVR. Also the iTivo program does locate the DVR as well, Just not the Mac Tivo Transfer. Someone please help!!!!
I'm upgrading from a Premiere to a Premiere 4. Is it possible to transfer or clone my hard drive and put it in the new TiVo so I don't lose all my recordings and thumbs info? I'm pretty comfortable with cloning/upgrading a hard drive for use in the same TiVo, but I've never needed to transfer one to a new TiVo.
Specifically I have a Premiere with a self-upgraded 1 TB drive, and I'm upgrading to a Premiere 4 along with a new 2 TB drive. So I've got a lot of things going on and not sure what's possible and in what order things need to be done. Any help is appreciated!
