Tivo Premier and Tivo XL4

TiVoCommunity Forum Recent Threads - Mon, 09/10/2012 - 17:13
I just purchased the XL4. The XL4 replaces my standard Premier. The old Premier was upgraded to 2T hard drive.

My question is, If the XL4's hard drive goes out, can I install the standard Premier hard drive (with the software still installed) and the XL4 boot from that hard drive?

pyTivo install was a breeze but I can't wrap my tiny brain around pywin32

TiVoCommunity Forum Recent Threads - Mon, 09/10/2012 - 16:25
While visiting family I’m trying to enhance their Tivo experience a bit. I’ve successfully installed pyTivo on their desktop but I would like it to run as a service. The pyTivo install was easy enough (it’s the second time I’ve done it) but I feel like an idiot when it comes to pywin32.

I installed pyTivo about a month ago. I’m leaving soon so I thought I’d take another shot at installing pywin32. My brain is locked as to where to begin. Do I extract pywin32 into its own directory, the python27 directory or the pyTivo directory? I assume I have to run setup.py from a cmd window but I further admit my cluelessness regarding the pywin32 read me file instructions.

“setup.py' is a standard distutils build script. You probably want to:
% setup.py install” (Huh?)

Can someone give me a push to get me started?

I have 4 S2s on my wireless network. As of yesterday none of the S2s are visible on the other's Now Playing screens.

All 4 devices are visible on my network.
All 4 devices have video sharing and video downloads enabled.
All 4 devices have been restarted.
All 4 devices successfully connected to the tivo server after the restart.
I've made no changes to my network.

Any and all help is appreciated.

Windows 8 app?

TiVoCommunity Forum Recent Threads - Mon, 09/10/2012 - 00:54
I know TiVo has mentioned that and Android app is in the works, but I wonder if they're also working on a Windows 8 version for the upcoming Surface tablets? If they are then we might be able to use the desktop version of Win8 as well and perhaps gain access to the recoded shows on a real PC.

Anyone seen any mention of a Windows 8/RT app in the works?

Is my Tivo about to kick the bucket?

TiVoCommunity Forum Recent Threads - Mon, 09/10/2012 - 00:52
In the past, when a channel would start breaking up like when you're on a cell phone and you're losing reception.... I would just hit the replay button and it would straighten itself out. Well recently, this is happening too often. Then in the past few days, it has gotten worse on whole new level. Guide comes up blank sometimes, or if you can scroll one page, the next page is blank. There are long delays when changing channels to not even responding sometimes, reboots itself when frozen, etc. Normally in the past, when tivo is done restarting, I know it takes awhile before you can see live tv, but I used to be able to watch the NOW PLAYING list. But now, even that list will be blank for a very long time.

60 Minutes 9/9/12 - "Mark Owen" on killing of Osama bin Laden

TiVoCommunity Forum Recent Threads - Mon, 09/10/2012 - 00:21
Surprised there's no thread yet...

Tonight's entire ep 60 Minutes was an interview w/"Mark Owen". http://www.cbsnews.com/8301-18560_16...in;cbsCarousel has a link to watch the segment. Looks like they have it broken up into 4 parts, or you can watch it all as one part (43:52 long).

I watched it on TiVo so I can't comment on how complete the online version is. 43:52 sounds about right given the amount of commercials OTA and padding at the end.

Tivo installation on a boat?

TiVoCommunity Forum Recent Threads - Sun, 09/09/2012 - 21:33
Hi, I have a question about using a Tivo Premiere DVR on a boat, and the feasibility of such an undertaking.
Here's the reasoning behind it. The boat has a very nice 60" TV that is around 5 years old, and doesn't have an ATSC tuner built in. It does, however, have an HDMI input. Currently, it is getting its content from a KVH Tracvision gyro-stabilized DirecTv antenna, and has DirecTv non-HD service. Due to limitations with the KVH system, receiving HD programming from the satellite provider is not an option.
A month ago, I installed an over the air antenna on the boat for a smaller TV in one of the staterooms, and it worked so well, the owner would like to be able to use it on the big TV in the salon as well.
Enter the Tivo fanatic (me!). Having installed my own Tivo DVR in my home a couple of years ago, and disconnected DirecTv and its giant monthly bill, I realized that it might also be the perfect thing in this instance also.
After looking at the specs of the various receivers, it looks like the Tivo Premiere is the only one with an ATSC tuner. It's also all the owner will need for the occasional use it will get.
My question is whether the receiver, guide, or DVR functions will work without a phone or network connection? It may be possible to get wireless internet from the marina where the boat is docked, but that will not be available when underway. I'm wondering if anyone out there knows how much, if any, of the program guide is stored in memory, and how many days it would be available for? Also, if he can't get internet or phone access, can a Tivo DVR be used as a regular DVR and ATSC tuner without a subscription? The woman I talked to in sales kind of gave me a vague answer about whether it would work without a subscription. I still can't quite figure out her answer. Something about that it might only record for thirty minutes...something like that. I didn't quite get it, and, frankly, I don't know if she really knew herself, so I just left it at that.
Thanks for any help that anyone can provide.
