Picture quality using only a Tivo HD with cable card & tuning adapter works without issue if that is all that is connected. Channel meter lists the various channels at 80 something.
However, I also have a cable modem and a thingy for cable telephone service. If I use the splitter they installed, the Tivo signal meter can go down to the 40's, and the picture can become tiled and break up. Not always but enough for it to be annoying. Obviously, the internet connections drops too often when the signal is this low. I have another cable line on another floor and the signal loss is a little better. Channel meter might go to the 40's as well when split, but at least the picture does not break up as often.
Hence the question: How can I mimimize signal loss so that I can use the line for both tv and modem/telephone? I would be happy with one line getting tv + cable modem, while the other line gets the tv + telephone adapter. Am I going to have get the cable company to install a line for each device?
Thanks for reading this and for any advice that you can give me.
I just took the plunge and purchased my first TiVo which is due to arrive soon. That said, I was considering placing it on top of my soundbar pedestal (SpeakerCraft CS3). My concern is if the vibrations from the soundbar could be harmful to the TiVo. I could also place the Tivo on a lower shelf, however it would then be out of line of site and may cause remote control/IR signal issues.
Good start to the season.
The opening scene with the blood panning to the boob was an amusing, likely unintentional, take on the "blood and boobs" nickname :)
I think they have set the season up nicely, with a decent opponent for Spartacus.
Anyone else buy a TiVo Premiere with the 3 Months Free offer? My first two months were free, but they just billed my credit card for the third month. I called customer support and they'll credit my card back for the erroneous charge but I was wondering if it was an honest mistake or if they're doing this to others also?
I have Tivo Series 2 with FIOS. The FIOS box times out and turns itself off, so I end up missing shows my family wanted to see. How can I prevent this?
I need to get the .tivo file to something Adobe premiere pro can edit like a .mp4
I have tried SUPER that i saw someone said to use, would only kick out a 10 second file.. Also bought Tivo Plus but that would only convert the files to mobile products i want the files to be 720p (1280x720)
Anyone know how to do this?
On my other Tivos, I was always able to tell how long Tribune was telling them a show was. There as a place that had how many minutes the show took. I have not been able to figure out where to look for this on the Premier.
It is helpful to know when I need to pad FX shows for example.
OK this isn't a big deal but I've noticed that recently when I start and MRS from my upstairs TiVo to my downstairs one the show always starts 1 minute into the recording. Most shows don't start exactly on time, and if they do a few click of IR gets you back to the start, so it's not a big deal. But it's odd. And the really odd part is it doesn't happen on every show. Although it does seem to be happening on the majority lately. And for the record these are brand new recorded shows. They've never been played before so it's not remembering a pause point.
On my Tivo 2 and my Tivo HD if I started watching a show while it was recording and then went to live TV, when I returned to watch the show, It would start from where I left off and have "resume playing" in the menu. I have noticed that my Tivo Premier goes back to the beginning of the show and has "start" in the menu. This will be real inconvient if I want to watch other shows during Super Bowl game. Is there some option I can set?
Is there an easy way to move shows on season pass between HD and SD? (or channel change for the same show name)
It's kind of painful to create new season pass and delete the old one, and then move the priority to the original place.
Just wondering if there was an easier way.

I watched this episode at lunch today (anything to drown out the beeping).
I liked it and I liked the team idea. I think this will be an interesting season.
I also agree with the judges picks for winners and losers. So we are off to a good start!
The 19th Annual Screen Actors Guild Awards are finally here! This is a beautiful night that allows actors to celebrate their fellow actors. All eyes are on recent Golden Globe winners Daniel Day-Lewis, Jessica Chastain, Jennifer Lawrence, Hugh Jackman to see if they continue to be victorious. I've got a Hughes GXCEBOT DirecTiVo box with two tuners, purchased over a decade ago, and it's been in constant use since then. The only changes I've made to it from stock was to put a bigger HD in it way back just after purchase.
Back in the day, I had an oval dish with a dual-LNB output connected to the unit. But a couple of years ago, I got an HD set for one room, and DTV put an H24 in for it. They changed out the dish at that time and installed an oval dish. It's got a single LNB device on it, with four cables coming from it into the house. Three of those cables are used. One to the HD box, and two to the Hughes DirecTiVo.
About two weeks ago, I started having problems with the Hughes box. I'd wake up in the morning and find the system "searching for Satellite signal" on both tuners. I was able to "fix" the issue the first time with a reboot. It happened again a couple of days later, and that time it took two reboots to fix. Another day or so passed and the problem returned. This time no amount of reboots fixed the problem, so I set about to seeing if my cables were good.
In the course of troubleshooting, I found that if I switched around the cables at the grounding block, I could get a signal on one of the tuners. As it was getting late, I left the unit running overnight with just one tuner. The following day, I swapped the cables around on the grounding block some more, and was able to get both tuners up and running, with the HD system unaffected. However, I noted that if I pulled the power from the HD box, or disconnected the Sat cable running to it, I'd lose signal on both tuners of the Hughes SD box.
Very odd, so I thought I was having an LNB problem. I called DTV and for $50 bucks, they sent out a tech who swapped out the LNB. Well, since I'm posting here, you all already know that the problem wasn't fixed. In fact, I haven't been able to get both tuners back up and running. I can get one tuner going at a time (doesn't matter which), but as soon as the other one is connected, both are dead in the water. The HD set remains unaffected, but still has the oddity that if I power it down, or disconnect it, I won't get anything on either tuner of the Hughes.
As for signal strength, it's fine by all measurements, and all cables test fine, so that's not the issue. However, if I look at the signal strength via the Hughes box, I'll see one of two things happening. Either the signal is there, and then it's not (alternating about once a second), or the signal is just plain missing from a set of transponders. Currently, I can get good signal on all the odd transponders, but zero signal (as seen by the Hughes box) on all the even transponders.
As part of the troubleshooting, the tech installed a multi-switch (unpowered) to see if that would help. It didn't. The multi-switch was removed.
As a last resort, the tech brought in an R16 box (which I was told was the equiv box, but DTV software, not TiVo), and hooked it up in place of the Hughes. The signal seen by the R16 looked right on the various transponders. (didn't seen real TV, because that would have required an activated card).
So, it seems that the problem is with my Hughes box. But what could it be?
Bother tuners work just fine on their own, and I was able to get the both working together up until the DTV tech replaced the LNB (although I haven't yet gone through all the combinations of switching cables around).
At the moment, I've set the Hughes box to use just one tuner, and it's working fine as-is, but I'd like to get the 2nd tuner back up and running. Remember, both tuners work fine on their own, just can't get them working together.
So, any ideas? I know there had been problems with caps in the past, but this doesn't seem to be the same problem. (or is it?)
Any ideas are appreciated. ...and thanks for reading this far. I know it was long-winded.
Hi, folks ...
I moved a Tivo Premier box from Verizon FIOS (in Mass) to TWC (in Raleigh).
Ever since the move, Tivo hasn't recorded any suggestions.
Fox announced that it is pulling Ben & Kate from its lineup effective immediately. How much of this is because it looks like it wants to get Raising Hope's season done by the end of March remains to be seen.
Here are the announced replacement shows:
1/29 - a second new Raising Hope
2/5 - a second new Raising Hope
2/12 - the State of the Union address
2/19 - a New Girl repeat
2/26 - a second new Raising Hope
3/5 - American Idol
Hell's Kitchen starts on Tuesdays on 3/12; the only other Raising Hope announced is the season finale on Thursday 3/28 (in place of Glee, which will probably be on its annual "spring break")
The press release says that Ben & Kate will return with new episodes "at a later date", but they said that about Breaking In and I Hate My Teenage Daughter when they started their "hiatuses" as well...
One of the few things I liked about my DirecTV receivers was the ability to pin favorite channels to a quick list that could be accessed by pressing the Up arrow on my remote.
Is there anything similar with the TiVo?
CBS is airing a new episode of Elementary after the Superbowl. It's scheduled for 10p. I suggest padding an hour. CBS won't start the show after 11p since it wouldn't count in the primetime ratings.
I got a pop-up message: "Are you sure you want to navigate away from this page and not chat with girls?" when I clicked on a thread.
This is with Chrome on Mac OS (with Ghostery blocking ads!)
I could come from another tab except it was a click here that triggered the pop up.
Methinks an ad server has some baddies on it.
