Since this tends to be the place we come to when we have questions or problems, I wanted to share some personal "good news" and thanks to the TiVo folks.
My cable company recently added about 24 HD channels to the lineup. After a week without seeing any Guide Data for these new options, though, I sent a Lineup Change form to TiVo Help. They say to allow for about a week for anything to change. . . so I was very pleasantly surprised to see that accurate Guide Data showed up in less than 48 hours. And I didn't have to do a thing to get it -- no restart, no Guided Setup redo. It was just there. And it just worked.
I know. . . Not anything earth-shaking here. But as someone who watches a ton of TV -- and who has loved TiVo ever since our first S2 unit in 2002 -- I just wanted to say a public "thank you" for a small job done well.
I love those long pauses on the mat after Phil tells a team they are the last to arrive.
You just know that means non-elimination. :)
Does Tivo still use the Teleword paid program for downloading info? I don't see it listed in the onscreen guide.
Craster stabbed in the throat, Lord Commander Mormont stabbed in the back, many of the remaining Night's Watch men in rebellion, and Sam fleeing with Gilly and her son. Who knew Sam had some of the hero in him?
Margaery just about has Joffrey eating out of her hand, and it looks like she will soon have Sansa doing the same -- suggesting Sansa might have Loras is genius!
Arya accusing the Hound of murder and Beric Dondarrion to be the champion to fight the Hound in a trial by combat.
Littlefinger has two featherbeds to be placed on the ship with him. Is he planning on taking Sansa with him? If so, at least she would appear to get her own bed.
Varys has the sorcerer, who castrated him as a boy, confined in a box. As Varys said, patience is helpful in plotting revenge. And now Varys is plotting with Olenna Tyrell.
Tywin Lannister says he is doing everything he can to rescue Jaime. But all he appears to be doing is sitting at his desk and writing. Tywin does not trust Cersei because she is not as smart as she thinks she is, and she fails to control Joffrey.
One-handed Jaime is ready to lie down and die when he finds he cannot fight worth a damn with his left hand. But Brienne is grateful to Jaime for saving her from rape (or she still plans to trade him for the Stark girls), and she bullies Jaime into choosing to live.
Theon is back where he started, tied to the cross. It seems Theon has no friends left (if he ever had any).
Daenerys could speak High Valyrian all along, and it did not require much patience for her to get revenge on the nasty slave master, who learned, for a brief moment, that a dragon is not a slave. And Daenerys has a loyal army, marching with all three dragons flying overhead.
COULSON IS ALIVE!!!
Oh, yeah, also ABC is planning on airing this show in its fall lineup. Pilot co-written and directed by Joss Whedon.
Fresh from his role in the summers box office smash, Marvels The Avengers, Agent Phil Coulson (Clark Gregg) returns to the worldwide law enforcement organization S.H.I.E.L.D. He puts together a small, highly trained, team of Agents to tackle the cases that havent been classified yet, the new, the strange and the unknown. That team consists of straight arrow Agent Grant Ward (Brett Dalton), an expert in combat and espionage; pilot and martial artist Agent Melinda May (Ming-Na Wen); and brilliant if socially awkward scientists Agent Leo Fitz (Iain De Caestecker) and Agent Jemma Simmons (Elizabeth Henstridge). Theyll be joined by civilian new recruit and computer hacker Skye (Chloe Bennet).
I almost don't care if it's a huge flop and cancelled in the third episode. Coulson is alive and they CAN'T cancel it by summarily bumping him off again!
I get most of my news from MSNBC, CNN and even Fox News. (TV sources). I wonder if in the future networks will even bother interrupting regular TV since many people do not watch live TV for regular shows. I flip to a 24 hour channel for stories such as the Boson incident and even scheduled events such as Presidential addresses. For really breaking stories I use Internet sources.
I have been trying to update info and as it goes thru the process it keeps ending with failed- error S03.
I found a help section (not here) that said to do a "kickstart" - unplug, replug and hold the pause button till the light is yellow. Then a green screen comes on and starts working on things.
I did all this, got things back to a restart and when I went to connect and update info, it stopped during 'downloading' and gave me the same error message.
I am wondering if this means my TiVo is fried?
I stumbled across it last night as my TiVo was tuned to it. I ended up recording the show.
Interesting to see how poor and undeveloped Myanmar is. I never knew much about the country but had known about the military junta. I'd met people from Burma (when it was still called that) once I was was MUCH younger and someone else from there when I was in college.
I've only watched some of the beginning and caught some in the middle. I'd be frankly a bit scared to be on a train where the infrastructure is such bad shape (the bouncing around). I'd never seen human powered Ferris wheels before. Looks like a very dangerous occupation.
My wifi died so I had to dosconnect the tivo from the network and stretch the cable into the next room to connect the desktop that was connected to network by wifi.
How long can I leave the tivo disconnected from the network before it is a problem? I did force a connection before I disconnected it from the network.
Both of my Premiers, P2 and P4, started with this error today. I am in the Boston area and up till now the on demand has been working perfectly. I have forced a couple of connections and rebooted the tivos to no avail. Is anyone else in the Boston area having a problem? I checked my account and the settings have not changed. I do not want to call tivo or comcast if this is a common problem with other users today also.
Hi all, looking for some help with my series 3 OLED display HD Tivo please.
Yesterday after a power outage my Tivo would not restart after power came back on. Stock on the powering up screen.
After searching the forums and checking several items I have found the following:
1) I could not get the hard start trick to do anything, screen stays the same
2) The unit is making a clicking noise with a sequence of 6 clicks then 2 clicks several times until all seems to stop
3) I do have a bulged top on capacitor board location #C701
From what I have read so far the bulged capacitor definitely needs to be repaired but am concerned about the hard drive as well due to the clicking noises which seem to me to be from the hard drive trying to start.
Looking for advice/suggestions on what is the best way to proceed.
Thanks in advance,
Didn't see a "newbie" forum so will post here, mods can move if it's in the wrong place.
Looking at replacing a whole house AV system in a house we just bought with a TiVo setup using HD antennas for OTA programming and high speed broadband for Internet streaming (Netflix, Amazon, Hulu plus, etc.)
Based on info from the TiVo site it appears this could be done using the Premier TiVo boxes but need to check that they will in fact connect with a home wifi network. Also, will they stream 1080 programming if it is available? Any reliability issues with the boxes themselves (we have TWC now and the Scientific Atlanta boxes suck)? Anything else we need to know to make this work (if it will...)? Thanks in advance! :)
I have two TiVo's, One is a Premier4 the other a TiVo HD. On both I have had over the years an irritating audio problem. The sound will drop out (picture okay), and come back on with no intervention of myself! This can last from one second to 5-6 seconds. If I use my TV tuner to watch same channel/program, I have no such drop outs. This can happen as much as 3-4 times / hour, sometimes it won't happen at all for several hours. I've had two different TV's over this time, and in each case the problem has been the same, so I don't think it's the TV's fault. I have read of some other cases of audio drop-outs, but it is usually while some other process is taking place, this is during times that no action on my part or the TiVo is doing anything, except showing a program (note channel or program doesn't matter)! It also appears on the playback of the recorded program. Is this a hiccup of the TiVo or what? Are others experiencing this also?
Thanks for any help, Don
Back in February, TiVo had petitioned the FCC to build a new line of all-digital DVRs. And apparently Industry is prepared to abandon analog tuning, as not a single letter of opposition was filed. From TiVo’s February filing: This petition requests an extension of that waiver to several new all-digital cable only devices and a slight extension [...]
Amidst Hulu’s identity crisis, their Windows and Mac Hulu Desktop software has gone missing. First introduced in 2009, these apps provided another means of video playback… with the benefit of Apple and Microsoft Media Center remote control support. But they unceremoniously vanished from the web several weeks back, along with all of Hulu Labs. A [...]
Hillcrest Labs stopped working on its HoME interface for smart TVs close to seven years ago. And yet the UI is still better than most you’ll see on the market today. I stopped by the Hillcrest Labs HQ earlier this month, and, as part of the visit, got a full demo walk-through of HoME. The [...]
While recent rumors about a Friends reunion were sadly squashed by Warner Brothers, we can’t help but reminisce about some of our favorite TV casts reunions. Jerry Seinfeld (Jerry Seinfeld), George Costanza (Jason Alexander), Elaine Benes (Julia Louis-Dreyfus) and Cosmo Kramer (Michael Richards) made us laugh once again on Curb Your Enthusiasm. The season seven finale featured a fictional Seinfeld reunion show with the original cast and was aptly titled “Seinfeld.” There was also a mini Will & Grace reunion on Smash when Sean Hayes guest-starred in a multi-episode arc Continue Reading
Now more than ever, everyone seems to get a lot of bad news on a daily basis. Our jobs are hard, the news is bleak and there just always seems to be something ready to drag us down. So this week, as we try to send happy thoughts to all of Boston, we thought it would be a good time to take a few deep breaths and try to reconnect with our happy place. Everyone’s got a different happy place and a different way to get there, but here at Continue Reading
Once upon a time, fairy tales moved from the pages of books to the screens of movies and TV. This twist on the genre, which was popularized by the Grimm Brother’s “Children’s and Household Tales” 200 years ago, can be seen by hundreds of remakes and reinterpretations of the fables that range from Disney classics like Cinderella to recent action-packed blockbusters like Hansel and Gretel: Witch Hunters and Snow White and the Huntsman. Audiences have also fallen under the spell of two fairy-tale TV dramas including the wholesome Once Upon Continue Reading
Aereo has been super savvy in grabbing headlines of late. If you’re not caught up on the story so far, the start-up TV company has expanded to a few new markets, won another round in court against broadcasters, and left Fox, CBS and others frothing at the mouth and threatening to move free programming over [...]
