I've been wanting to watch this show for years, but wanted to start at the beginning. Now I can.
Just a PSA.
Watched Season 1, Episode 1 last night. Wow! Loved it. The main good dude and the main bad dude were great characters. I'm hoping bad dude isn't dead. Knowing he's a relatively big star (from The Shield), I imagine they didn't kill him off and he's due back.
The new remotes have new A - D buttons.
It would be great if say the A button could be set to toggle closed captioning while watching a show.
Currently toggling closed captioning requires multiple button pushes, and it requires bringing up the info page on top of what you are watching, obscuring the show. In addition the closed caption toggle is at a different location on the info page depending on if you are watching live TV, a show being recorded or a previously recorded show.
Turning on closed captioning is awesome when no matter how many times you rewind you still can't figure out some piece of dialog. However the captions do obscure part of the screen so you don't necessarily want to leave captions on for the whole show.

From the article:
In the strictest definition, a PC was an IBM PC running PC-DOS on an Intel x86 processor. That would later expand to a PC-compatible machine running MS-DOS on an x86 CPU. These days, Id say, the definition is pretty liberal: any x86 or x86-64 machine running a stand-alone x86-compatible operating system. It doesnt even mean you have to run a Microsoft OS, but you should be able to install any compatible OS you want. After all, a ThinkPad running Ubuntu is as much a PC as a corporate Wintel box. And yes, I think that x86 boxes with secure UEFIs that dont let you install Linux or other alternative OSes fail to live up to the definition of a PC. And yes, the Mac is just an overpriced PC.
How does my litmus test work on todays hardware? Lets see. Is the iPad a PC? No, its not x86 and its pretty well locked down. Is it a personal computer? Yes. Is a Citrix terminal running Windows XP remotely a PC? No. Is it a personal computer? No, its a terminal. Is your smartphone running Android 4.1 a PC? No. Is it a personal computer? Yes. Is a Windows 8 Pro convertible tablet a PC? Yes. Is Microsofts Surface RT tablet running Windows RT a PC? No. Is it a personal computer? Yes. Is a Google Chromebook a PC? If its x86, then yes, but not when its running Chrome OS. Why not? Chrome OS is far closer to being a terminal than a personal computer.
I used to agree with this assessment, but over the last year or so, after using my tablets (Android and iPad) and my smartphone as much or more than my home PCs (not including work PC here), I've come to the conclusion that MY definition of a PC has changed. I probably argued against this in another thread, but I'm now in the camp that agrees that Apple is the largest PC maker, on the strength of their mobile devices.
What say you? Should make for some interesting Friday chatter :D
I'm new to TiVo and was told that a new TiVo will record all episodes that haven't aired in the last 28 days even when season passes are set to record "New" episodes only. Recently I had to do a "Clear and delete everything" on one of my TiVo's to clear up an issue I was having. Dies this reset the 28 day rule?
I'm having the same issue with both of my Premiere XL4's wherby my TiVo's will respond normally to the TiVo button either using the remote or the iPhone/iPad app for a while and then all of a sudden the button seems to have no effect until I reboot. This issue is not related to my remote as this behavior occurs with both of my remotes as well as the iOS TiVo app and clears up after a reboot. Sometimes, I'll hear the ding when I press the TiVo button but no UI. FYI, I'm using the HD menus. I'm starting to wonder if this is related to the iOS app...
Has anyone else had this experience?
How to convert FLV video to my iPad?
Whenever I get a recording from KMTTG, it decrypts using TivoDecode and then it is a nice mpg file that plays in VLC, windows media player, etc. I tried throwing the video into Adobe Premiere CS6 and the audio was out of sync; not just a second off but it was a worsening sync as time went on. I had KMTTG encode using handbreak and ffmpeg but the resulting videos had the same problem in Premiere CS6. I also tried converting the mpg manually to an avi using ffmpeg, but Premiere CS6 still had sync issues. The same problem happens with every show, regardless of channel HD/SD. Has anyone run into this problem? Any solutions? Thanks in advanced.
PS... I always said CS6 after Premiere because that name can be rather confusing on this forum.
A previously record show on a Tivo HD?
"Theres Mads Mikkelsens Dr. Lecter getting to know Hugh Dancys emotionally ravaged FBI profiler Will Graham, a relationship thats supposed to help Graham find a way out of dark places. Theres Laurence Fishburne warily wondering whether his protege is up to the task of solving some new cannibalistic murders. And of course, theres blood lots and lots of blood."

I am currently using WHS and streambaby. I had a drive go bad and it was a real pain to save and move my data and videos. I am thinking of going to a new setup with either a Netgear or Synology server. I am thinking the netgear / sinology setup might be easier to maintain, ie hot swappable. Netgear has some Tivo support, but in some ways Synology seems better. Can anyone give me an idea which is better and how hard would it be to set up either one with PyTivo so I can stream videos from the server to my Tivos. Any input would be appreciated.
I have installed Windows thousands of times , built all of my computers and the WHS. I have NO experience with Linux.
Thanx . I am going to sleep now, I will check back in around 8 hrs from now..
I installed kmttg today in the hope of being able to download to my pc from my 2 premier units. In the past I have used Tivo Desktop and TivoPlaylist both of course now are crippled by the Valentines Day Date Issue, kmttg looks great and filled with features but for now I'd just like to be able to transfer some stuff off for later viewing.
KMTTG seems to successfully identify my two tivos and retrieves their respective now playing lists, problem is when I initate a download its starts off ok but at a point between 5% and 10% of the download it seems to freeze and not progress any further, anyone have any ideas what I may be doing wrong ?
I've set up a Tivo wireless n adapter on one of my premieres. I can view transmit speeds on my access point, and the adapter seems stuck at 13.5 mbps. A computer right next to it is connected at over 100 mpbs.
Any thoughts? Is it broken?
I tried updating the firmware, but the process never finished (tried twice). I think it has the most recent firmware, however.
Was wondering if anyone else has seen an issue with the audio getting out of sync with the video on shows recorded on Fox network? I've seen this happening with Bones and The Following on Fox (WXXV in Biloxi, Ms) over the last couple of months. I can't say if it's happening on the live broadcast cause I almost never watch anything live. So it's usually later in the evening or sometime the next day that I watch recordings. Typically the show starts off and everything is synced up and looking just fine. About 15 or 20 minutes into the show after skipping past the first and possibly the second commercial break the audio and video are out of sync by 1/2 or 1 second. I have not noticed this on any other recordings or channels. Just stuff on Fox.
I have an HP Home Server that I previously ran the Tivo add-in on. The server has been out of service for awhile but I recently wiped it clean and set it back up. I have yet to install the tivo app and am wondering if anyone else currently using the tivo application is experiencing the Feb 14 fail to transfer issue and if it also is affecting tivo to server transfers, and/or if there is a fix for it.
Thanks for your help..
I seem to be having a problem that others have had. Unfortunately, nothing seems to work well.
My series 2 works, far as I can tell, all the time - it sees the TiVo Desktop (TiVo Plus enabled if it matters).
To me, this is odd, as kmttg (on PC with TiVo Desktop) is able to do auto-transfers fine, so PC can always reach Premiere TiVo. But, for whatever reason, TiVo can't see / reach TiVo Desktop, I'm guessing.
I've tried stopping and restarting the TiVo Server - Services, TiVo Server Properties, wait 10 mins or so for it to load, exit, then restart it. This most of the time works, however, it's not very easy / automated.
Just curious if anyone has come up with either a cause or good work-around?
Like many, I've had to resort to putting my tuning adapters (Motorola) on timer's to get suggestions working again. Though this works, it's creating another issue whereby sometimes I wake up only to find that the light on the TA is blinking indicating that it is not synced. I then have to power cycle it for 2-3 minutes and usually that gets it back in sync. Right now I have my TA's set to power off at 3:00am and back on at 6:00am. I certainly can't expect my family to have to do this when I'm not around. Has anyone else noticed this odd out of sync issue with their TA's after powering off/on?
FYI, I've been working closely with TiVo on this issue and they maintain that this is an issue with my channel map being incorrect. They've had me try erasing/deleting everything and the problem still exists. They've also sent a script to my TiVo's which is supposed to rewrite the channel map, again no success - same issue. Hopefully they'll get a handle on this soon and have a fix for us unfortunate people living in SDV networks.
I have a OLED S3 TiVo and I want to have more space. I would like plug and play operation. I have looked at the 1 tb DVR Expander from WD. How reliable are they? What kind of life expectancy can I expect out of one?
I'm thinking of trying to pick up an older Series 3 used from Craigslist (or even ebay) in order to put it in a bedroom that isn't heavily used.
I'm seeing some on Craigslist, but what do you think is a fair price for a used Series 3 (OLED) or TiVo HD (160GB model)?
