Weird Roamio Pro problem

TiVoCommunity Forum Recent Threads - Wed, 09/18/2013 - 15:01
I got a Roamio Pro and started the awful process of manually transferring all of my shows from my Tivo HD to the new box.

There is one recording that had an issue. Whenever I tried to transfer that program the Roamio would reboot. Rebooting would clear the list of tee'd up programs to transfer, but everytime I got to one program it would cause the unit to reboot.

My worry is this is a brand new box. I haven't seen any issues with it other than this one, but I don't want to keep a box that is potentially faulty. What could cause this problem?

//It is ridiculous that there isn't a way to transfer all recordings automatically.

String of Missed Recordings Last Night

TiVoCommunity Forum Recent Threads - Wed, 09/18/2013 - 13:52
I had a string of recordings all messed up last night. I had set Dads to record, and my wife had set New Girl and Mindy Project also. In between, I saw that show Brooklyn 99 was on so I started that recording too. So that's 4 30 minutes shows back to back, same channel. It was only later, during New Girl, that I realized all the recordings thus far were 2 minutes long, even though they otherwise appeared to be ok. The red circle was always up to indicate it was recording. If you played the recording, the timer bar appeared to have the whole show, but it also said 2 minutes long and yes in fact would only play for 2 minutes. I ignored it for the moment, but when I saw it happening again on Mindy Project, I finally stopped and restarted the recording, and then it recorded normally, and later Sons of Anarchy recorded ok too. Checked the most recent recordings before those shows and they were fine.

What the hell happened? Anyone seen this? I've yet to see a tivo screw up this bad.

Favorite Channels feature from the App to the TiVo box

TiVoCommunity Forum Recent Threads - Wed, 09/18/2013 - 13:17
I asked how to do this in another thread, but it doesn't seem to be currently possible, so I thought I'd request it here. (http://www.tivocommunity.com/tivo-vb...d.php?t=508714)

Basically, I love that on my TiVo iPhone app, I can go to What to Watch -> Favorite Channels and see what's currently airing on my favorite channels. It's a wonderful at-a-glance way to see what's on the channels I like to check. It's my favorite implementation of a Favorite Channels feature that I've ever seen.

The problem is that when I go to What to Watch on the TiVo itself, there is no Favorite Channels section. It's "Popular Shows", "Movies", "Sports", and "Kids". That's fine, but it's not very customizable.

Anyway, this is a wonderful feature on the App. Please port it to the main TiVo interface as well. It would dramatically improve my TiVo experience.

Shows that started off weak and then quickly went uphill

The first show that comes to mind for me is Parks and Recreations. When it started it was pretty hard to watch and enjoy. Every season since they have make tweaks and cast changes. Now it has gelled into one of the funniest shows on TV.

Big Brother, Big Twists

TiVo Blog - Wed, 09/18/2013 - 12:00
Big Brother: A reality show, a game show, a soap opera… It has the best of so many worlds and it’s on three nights a week. This year we saw a couple of interesting twists that were new to the Big Brother game; America’s MVP and a jury member “Got to steppin’” back into the house. America’s MVP got a bit more interesting once America actually got to pick the third nominee to be put up on the block and the jury member who moved back is still in the Continue Reading

Verizon’s TV Talk Chills Cable Relations

Zatz Not Funny! - Wed, 09/18/2013 - 11:24

Well this could put a damper on Verizon’s currently cozy relationship with the cable industry. According to the New York Post, Verizon – like so many companies – is in talks with “major programmers” about creating a national, Internet-based pay-TV service. The Post says that while Verizon has pursued access to particular shows in the [...]

Premiere Lifetime for $99

TiVoCommunity Forum Recent Threads - Wed, 09/18/2013 - 11:22
When I bought my Premiere Tivo allowed me to pay $99 to convert my HD to lifetime. Has anyone had this offer to a Premiere if they purchase a Roamio? Probably wishful thinking but it would be enough for me to make the purchase.

So Calder isn't working for Henry, yay! Glad they finally got to the scene where he shot Annie that we saw several weeks ago.

And we got to see Eyal, even if only for a short time. I love him!

I used to hate Arthur and Joan, but have really enjoyed their storyline this season.

I'm bummed that it will be another month until the next new ep.

The Shield or The Wire?

I've never seen a single episode of either series. I don't have time to watch them both right now. Which one should I choose?

Brooklyn Nine Nine OAD 2013-SEP-17 Pilot

TiVoCommunity Forum Recent Threads - Wed, 09/18/2013 - 08:51
I found this one to be pretty fun and funny. Andre Brougher solid as always. They did good on the pilot, let's see how they go from here.

I guess I'm still amused by the silly adolescent humor combined with competence. Good formula I guess for my amusement.

(Also watched Dads but it was so terribad not gonna start a thread on it).

Explain this bug

TiVoCommunity Forum Recent Threads - Wed, 09/18/2013 - 06:16
I have a Roamio set to use only 4 tuners due to the Cisco Cable Card firmware version not being current. Although originally Romaio recorded on all 6 tuners but when TiVo explained without the cable card firmware update the recordings could be random on the two extra tuners I disabled 2 tuners.

I have had issues with random tuners out of the 4 tuners not receiving signal. This is the same issue I have on my Premier XL4.

Last night I set the Roamio to record Dads, Brooklyn Nine and New Girl. All programs were on Fox and in order. Dads was a full recording. Brooklyn Nine was not recorded due to no signal, TiVo history gave me that information. New Girl was a full recording.

Very hard to believe this is a cable card problem or a cable company problem.

Channel Order?

TiVoCommunity Forum Recent Threads - Wed, 09/18/2013 - 02:06
Is there a way to setup a favorite channels list and control the order? My cable co.'s channel orders make no sense and I would like to group sports, movies, etc together. Is this possible?

Sons of Anarchy - "One One Six" - 9/17/13

omg KEV! and DEWEY! hahaha

One great thing about this show, it sure keeps a lot of (usually great) actors working.
Let's see we've got the long standing The Shield/Deadwood ties. Now Shameless, Southland, and for a brief moment The Mentalist. (adore Samaire Armstrong so much and hate to see her go so fast :() I'm sure I've missed some others.

Never been a big Jimmy Smits fan pre SOA, but he is killing it in his role as Nero. I can't imagine anyone else playing that role, and that in and of itself should be testimony to just how good he is.

Donal Logue is one of the best, most underrated, actors ever. He kills it in everything he does, from farcical to high drama.

A bit surprised and glad the Arcadio/Darvany drama was ended so quickly. But a bit sad that Samaire Armstrong was only with us so briefly too.

Did we see that maybe Torric's "problem" may be more than just drug abuse? Does the drug use/abuse maybe stem from an actual ailment?

tivo roamio or another preimer

TiVoCommunity Forum Recent Threads - Wed, 09/18/2013 - 00:49
I need some opinions. I have a DTV dvr and direct tv.

I also have a tivo premier with lifetime guide and extended warranty.
I also have another tivo HD now unauthorized. I only record OTA with the tivos, but now I need at least 1 more tuner for OTA.
My options are:
Reauthorize the tivo HD and pay $13 per month
Reauthorize the tivo HD and buy lifetime for $400 total.
Buy a Roamio for $200 and lifetime for $399 = $600 total
Sell the Premier w/lifetime for approx $250 - $600 = $400 total
Maybe upgrade the Premier HD and get $300 = $300 total

Tivo 2 Hookup to Sony Rear Projection TV

TiVoCommunity Forum Recent Threads - Tue, 09/17/2013 - 23:41
I have a Sony KP46WT500 rear projection TV.

I have had my Tivo 2 DT hooked up to another TV which died, and so I switched it to the Sony.

I used the simplest hookup which is to run coax from cable outside to cable box, cable box to Tivo, then Tivo to TV input.

The Tivo screens come up, and my recordings show.

I did run the controller setup and it will turn off the TV, volume will work, and channels will change...but all the channels are black. No picture.

I get the Tivo channel guide, but no picture at all. I tried the channel changing trouble shoot fix but it went on for some time without any change, so I figure I must have a problem with the cable hookup.

If you are familiar with this TV you will know there are a zillion connections

I tried the 3 wire RCA Tivo Hookup originally and it didn't work at all.

Any suggestions on how to hook up the Sony?

Thanks Tim

What happened to the video window?!?!

TiVoCommunity Forum Recent Threads - Tue, 09/17/2013 - 22:46
I'm very new to TiVo, but when I first started with it about a month ago, I could see the Video Window of whatever I was watching in the upper right hand corner of the screen whenever I searched for movies on TiVo. Now it is missing and I can't bring the video window back. The TiVo menu options/settings have changed and following the instructions at the bottom of page 2 of the viewer guide no longer works. The video window option is gone. Can anyone explain this? I can't find anything on the internet about it. Thanks!

I know someone posted the link in a recent post. I couldn't find that post in a search with different search terms. But I found a different post that led me to the Roamio User Guide. I figured I'd post the links with some of the different search terms I used, so that other people who are doing a search may find the guide links more easily.

Upgrading from Series 2 - Need Buying Advice

TiVoCommunity Forum Recent Threads - Tue, 09/17/2013 - 19:47
I've been a TiVo user for a long time and really love it, but I'm afraid I've put off upgrading for about as long as I'm going to be able to.

Currently I have:
  • Three Series 2 TiVos (2 DT, 1 ST)
  • Time Warner Cable (analog only on 2 TiVos, digital cable box on 1 TiVo)
  • Three old school box televisions (no flat screen, no HD)

Time Warner is slowly but surely moving more of our favorite channels to digital only, meaning we can only record them on the one TiVo that is hooked up to a digital cable box. The problem is that we have to use IR cables to change the channel on the box, which is hit and miss, and if it misses, we don't get to see whatever show we were trying to record.

Another complication is that within the next year, we will be moving from San Diego to Dallas. We're unsure what cable company we will end up with, and many of them only provide digital services anymore.

So, my questions:

1) If we buy a TiVo Premiere or Roamio, will we be able to use MRV between either of them and our existing Series 2 TiVos?

2) If we buy a TiVo Premiere or Roamio, will we also need to upgrade our television(s) from our old box sets to an HD flat screen? Or will they work with our existing televisions?

3) If we buy a TiVo Premiere or Roamio, will we be able to receive local broadcast stations / network affiliates through analog cable?

4) I'm behind the times on this issue since it hasn't affected us, but I have heard there are issues with Time Warner specifically and how the cable cards interact with TiVos. I guess that's not a question, just looking for advice.

I'm sorry to be such a newbie about this, but I'm thinking we are going to need to make whatever upgrades are necessary in the next couple of weeks, so if anyone can offer advice or even referrals of where to begin researching these issues, I'd really appreciate the help.
