I have a TiVo Series3 (OLED TCD648250B). In 2010 I updated the drive to a 1.5T WD EARS HD and expanded it up to the 1.26T capacity via WinMFS. I turned off intelipark via WDidle3 /d. This worked fine for 2.5 years. The S3 has recently begun to reboot and so I decided to just re-image a new drive. I took backups of my original 250G HD in 2010.
So I restore the image to another WD 1.5T with intelipark turned off, I answer yes to expand and then supersize it. Put it back into the Tivo and it reports 36 hrs of HD capacity, when I expect to see 157 Hrs.
I am following these steps here, exactly.
In WinMFS, select File -> Select Drive and select the new replacement SATA drive
In WinMFS, select File -> Restore and select the backup file you saved earlier. Click Start. This will restore the TiVo software to the new drive.
Note: Do not change the swap size. Leave it at the default of 128.
When the restore is complete, WinMFS will ask you if you want to expand the drive to use the new space. Click Yes.
If you do not see this dialog box, then select Tools-> Mfsadd.
Select Tools-> MfsSuperSize -> On.
Ive done this half a dozen times now with different drives (all WD 1.5T) and I even downloaded a new version of winMFS ( beta 9.3f) and every time it does not show the expanded capacity to 157Hrs.
I am using an eSata drive dock and winMFs sees the drive just fine and does the image OK.
I tried to do the kickstart 54 and it just would not take, not sure what I was doing wrong there.
I downloaded a virgin image from a member here via dropbox for my S3 model, restored from that one too and it also reported 36 hrs.
What in the world am I doing wrong/missing? I dont recall any of these issues when I did my upgrade in 2010.
I don't care about the content on the old 1.5T HD. I can get the S3 back up and running, but kinda wanted to get full use of the new 1.5T HD to get me back where I was before.
thanks for your help.
After taking in the annual Cable Show, what struck me are the increasingly complex relationships – shifting and unpredictable alliances, enemies now friends, competitors snuffed… with the final chapters yet to be written. Much like HBO’s Game of Thrones. Beyond the corporate square dance, there’s clearly increased excitement surrounding TV Everywhere. So head on over to [...]

I have a couple TivoHD's that I've used for years and until now have had little reason to change. I recently moved and no longer have access to Comcast cable. I now must use a rural cable company that does not provide cable cards. Thankfully, TiVo does have the channel guide for my new cable provider but the TivoHD only receives channel 2-99. I assume this is because the internal tuners are analog. The curious thing is that when I hook the cable directly to my newer flat panel television then run a channel scan I receive many more channels above channel 99. I'm guessing this is because most modern TV's have a built-in digital tuner for non-subscription channels. Both the Premier and TiVo HD specifications say "Analog Cable, Digital Cable (may require CableCARD)".
My question is this: If I buy the newer Premier (Not the 4 or 4XL) would it's new tuner receive more of the non-subscribed channels than the TivoHD does? Maybe like my TV does? Remember, I cannot use cable cards with my new cable company.
Thanks for commenting!
Let me go ahead and say what I am using. I have the TiVo HD Series 3, Trendnet Wireless G router, the TiVo Wireless G adapter and a Windows 7 computer with the TiVo Desktop 2.8.3 version.
This is a solution I have found if your TiVo Desktop gives an error saying something like "no TiVo DVRs found" or "there was an error reaching your TiVo DVR". I also have some tips to suggest keeping your TiVo Desktop working.
If you get that error, whether or not your computer and/or TiVo is connected wirelessly, disconnect the router for 30 seconds and plug it back in. Start up TiVo Desktop and you should be able transfer now. If that still doesn't work, reboot your TiVo -- press the TiVo button on your remote, go to Messages & Settings, then Restart or Reset System, then Restart the TiVo HD DVR or whichever the top option says on yours, then press the Thumbs Down 3 times and Enter and let your TiVo reboot and try again.
I highly recommend when transferring recordings to a computer, have that computer connected to a WIRED connection through your router. Otherwise, DO NOT use any internet programs while transferring this will bog down everything and your transfers will timeout and most likely you will have to do the above again.
I had to do this before and it can be a pain but it helps to know what to do.
Note: If use any P2P or torrent programs that may cause these errors as I have stated.
On the good side, if you use a wired connection on your computer, you will be able to use the internet normally and won't have to worry about your transfers timing out.
I hope this helps those out there who have or have had this problem, this is the only way I have tried that works but don't know if there are any alternatives.
This may not work for everyone, we don't all have the same type of TiVo DVRs.
I'd like to be able to take an existing recording and edit the time down. I frequently start a show a bit early and record it a bit long (especially with sporting events) and it would be nice to not have to keep the entire recording around. For example, when recording a football game, I typically record 6 hours - once the game is done, it would be very nice to be able to lop off the last 2.5 hours of non-game recording.
I've been researching the Tivo, and I'm seriously thinking about buying a Premiere XL4 to replace my cable companies DVR box.
My question is, is the Premiere XL4 worth getting at this point, or would you wait for the next round of new Tivo hardware?
Thanks for your opinion on this.
Father’s Day is this weekend and it’s time to celebrate our favorite guy – dad. Whether you are spending the day at the ballpark, grilling out in the backyard or simply hanging with dad for a TiVo night in, Sunday is the perfect time to show our dads how much we love them. This got us thinking. There are so many great TV dads, from Howard Cunningham on “Happy Days” to Archie Bunker from “All in the Family,” to celebrate this Father’s Day, too. But we wanted to know: who Continue Reading
OK, who's going to be the first to say that Mikey's a wimp?
Oh, I guess it's me!
Elliot really needs to give it up and fish! I can't believe that all he can find to do in a hurricane and 50 ft seas is call Val and argue with her!!
Otherwise, a fairly tame episode. Good to see Junior's dad make it through, though.
Just purchased a Premiere XL 2 tuner (TCD748000) without a HDD. At the same time, I am upgrading my Premiere 4 to a 2TB with jmfs. Could I just do another one and drop it in the 2 tuner and have it work or would I need an image from the 2 tuner to start with?
I have a TiVo Elite and a Mini. It may be my imagination but I swear that the bluetooth/slide remote's response time is diminished with it's sharing a tuner with the Mini.
When I set it back to 0 tuners shared the response of the remote seems a bit snappier.
Is anyone else experiencing this?
The synthetic cadaver was absolutely terrifying.
Of course Adam had an old Volvo!
I found it really annoying how they danced around ever saying that the police officers were fat. Plus sized. Big. Large. Wide. Heavyset. Just say fat!
I used to have Tivo for Directv. You could do a category search for movies. The result was 2 or 3 movies a week that you could record. Why can't we have this on Premiere?
Tried looking all over but could not find. Getting xfinity and not sure how much they charge a month for a cable card.
Does anyone know? How much does your provider charge?
The Cable Show has returned to DC and while the NCTA’s annual convention is winding down, our coverage is still rolling in. I've been very consistent in rating each of my recorded suggestions with thumb ratings for several months. That said, it's starting to feel like a job rating every single suggestion day after day. Is there a point of disminishing returns in terms of teaching TiVo what trypes of programs I like via thumb ratings?
I appreciate your feedback.
The ol' girls has been running like a champ for 14 years.
I was holding out for the 6-tuner model but for a number of reasons decided to pull the trigger now on a Premium 4 and a mini.
Transfer the grandfathered lifetime service with one-time transfer to the P4.
Ordered a 2g hard drive for the upgrade and we'll move into the 21st century.
Any other old-timers hanging around?
Now that other dvrs are catching up to Tivo, when is Tivo going to allow me to view my shows (from PC -pictures/music) via streaming from any device or connection for non apple products? I dont want the mini
doesnt do what I want anyway. Also I shouldnt need to be on the same connection to delete shows.
Over the past week I have been experiencing a new issue and can't seem to figure out how to prevent it.
It happens when in the HDUI, when navigating the UI by using the left or right arrow, every few times you enter or exit a folder the entire screen goes black, and my TV displays "No Signal" It's as if the HDMI cable was unplugged or the TiVo was powered off.
Here is what I have found.
Turning the TV off, then back on does not resolve the signal.
Letting it sit at the no signal screen will not make the video come back, it will sit at no signal for ever.
Restarting the TiVo will restore the signal.
Changing off my TiVo on the HDMI Switch, then Back to my TiVo also restores the signal.
The TiVo is not frozen, nor does it act like anything had ever happened when the signal is restored.
Last night while navigating a wish list folder with 8 recorded programs in it, while setting them all to KUID I had this issue happen 3 times.
It started a little over a week ago
It only appears to happen when hitting the left or right arrow to navigate the HDUI. It will not happen any other way. And no issues like this happen with my Apple TV or Blu-Ray Player.
The coolest superstar who ever lived - Julius Erving.
The thread title may confuse some people who'll think this is a Doctor Who thread but sports fans in my age group know who the real Doctor is. I just watched the NBA channel's hour and a half long documentary on Julius Erving titled "The Doctor". I'd heard that it was good and it was very good. Lots of rarely seen footage from his high school, college and ABA career.
Times have changed a lot. Erving was a playground legend but practically unknown during his college career at Massachussets. Stand out players get national attention in high school now. Then he was drafted by the NBA which had no national tv contract. There was no way to see him in the Philadelphia market. I only knew of him when I was a kid through Street and Smith's basketball magazine. Then one day, one of the UHF tv stations broadcast the ABA All Star game. That was the one in which he dunked from the foul line. That was the only time I saw Dr J play before he came to the Sixers.
Michael Jordan was a better player than the Doctor but was nowhere near as cool. Nobody was.
