Parade's End. A new mini series on HBO. Begins tonight.
Parades End tells the story of a bad marriage, set in a much broader context of a rotting civilization.
And thats the real difference between it and Downton Abbey. That show is a gauzy anachronism in period costumes; the first novel of Parades End was published in 1924, and the series is enmeshed in the great cataclysm of the time, underscoring the cruelty of the age as much as its charm.
Does the small sdv adapter work with a series 2 tivo? All the posts I'm reading talk about series 3 and premier boxes.
That was a pretty conclusion to the first part. Whoever mentioned that Castle's dad was involved hit a home run. When that character first showed up it was pretty obvious who it was. You don't bring James Brolin on a TV show as a bit character.
Castle's Dad's backstory is weird considering the Nikki Heat books. Spoilerized for folks that haven't read them yet:
In the books, Nikki's mom (who is obviously Beckett's mom) was killed because she was secretly a CIA operative. So now we have an author, Richard Castle, who wrote a book where the main character's mom was a secret CIA operative who later finds out that his own father is a CIA operative. That seems like poor storytelling on the writers of Castle's part. Couldn't they have done something with his dad's character that wasn't exactly what happened with Heat's mom. If I remember correctly, didn't Heat's mom even work out of Paris? If it had happened the other way around it would make more sense.
Anyway, good episode.
Hi I am wondering about this model, I am looking to cut the cable and set it up with an OTA antenna, but the search feature isn't getting me anywhere....any opinions? I think the series is my best option b/c of the antenna,(is that right?) how does this model hold up with real users? looking for any sort of input here.....
See C|NET Article.
Does anyone think this might now or in the future be a good place to store transferred Tivo programs, whether they came originally via Tivo Desktop, PyTivo, or kmmtg? Pros and cons of using this or any other cloud service for storing Tivo programs?
Did anyone not see SWAT being impersonated by followers coming? :D
The super-duper IT computer whiz follower somehow misses the massive media coverage of the FBI surrounding the cabin.
Follower actually utters the dialog "I'm your follower". If that doesn't prove this show is a spoof of itself...
The female redshirt police deputy that I predicted last week turned out to be a redshirt follower instead. So I was wrong. But, at least I was right about her not surviving the episode.
Funny bit for me was when Ryan calls Westin. Westin sees the phone ring, honestly looks like he has no idea what to do, and has to wait for head FBI lady to tell him to answer the phone.
Westin predictably shows up late again, this time with a better than usual excuse, shot by a follower.
I'm doubling-down on my prediction that Westin is secretly a follower. I think his secret cult name is "Roderick", and yes, I think he planned to have himself shot in order to preserve his facade of incompetent stupidity. Ironically, he's actually the smartest character on the series.
Emma deserts her two faux-gay companions. Worst threesome ever.
Instead of leaving a phone in plain sight, we leave a knife in plain sight of a trained FBI agent.
Kid still thinks Emma is his friend. Dumbest kid ever. Probably a follower. My #2 choice for being "Roderick".
I love this show. I'm having so much fun with it.
So I got a Tivo in January.
I thought that by returning the Comcast DVR, I would end up paying $10 less a month, on my bill.
It turns out that Comcast then adjusts the "credits" I get on my promotion, actually causing my bill to go up by $2-3.
I tried talking to a rep on the phone, but it doesn't look like there's much they can do. I'm going to go to their on-site store and just see if I can talk to someone. I don't expect much to be done, but it just seems better to talk to someone in person.
I can post a summary of the sections for my bills in Dec., Jan., and Feb. if anyone's interested, to see how by bill is different. I got the Tivo in early January.
I'm going to take all 3 bills to them.
I have a TiVo Series 3 HD (TCD652160) whose hard drive died a horrible grinding death. Unable to use MFSLive to backup/restore to another hard drive (seemingly infinite read errors on the drive).
Enter InstantCake (yay!). I bought a 1TB WD "red" SATA drive and plugged it in to my SATA-to-USB interface adapter on my iMac. I downloaded the InstantCake ISO for my TiVo (it won't let me post a link but go to dvrupgrade dot com) and then in Fusion created a new VM guest and pointed to the ISO as the boot device.
New virtual machine booted fine, but it became apparent to me I had no idea how to tell it what the CD-ROM device was. There's no apparent mount point for /.
Short version...use the command "dmesg | grep CD" and it will spit out the device that the CD-ROM (or the ISO image) is mounted on, in my case it was hdc--so that also told me that I need to specify it as a PATA device.
Then, in Fusion, logically "connect" the SATA drive to the guest VM. That will result in some console messages that will make it obvious which device the SATA disk is appearing on (in my case it was sda). This will be a SATA device for InstantCake.
Then, in the InstantCake installer (which you either cancelled out of after boot with Ctrl-C, or you let it fail to a # prompt; you can restart it with the command PTVbake3), I told it my CD-ROM was a PATA device on hdc, and my SATA drive was a SATA device on sda.
The installer worked perfectly after that.
I have a Series 2 Dual Tuner 80GB with lifetime service for sale.
Works perfectly, and only in service for about 2 years.
Easiest way to reach me is to email me. My email is (my username)@comcast.net
According to TiVo audience research measurement data from last night’s 85th annual Academy Awards, TiVo users were moved by heartfelt acceptance speeches, like that from Christoph Waltz, and the musical montages. Perhaps due to the long telecast, TiVo’s top five moments all occurred in the first 45 minutes of the show. Also, three of the top five moments were host Seth MacFarlane’s skits or jokes. That’s three more than last year’s show host, Billy Crystal, had in TiVo’s 2012 top five moments (see the 2012 top moments here)! Interestingly enough, Continue Reading
I hope this show dies a quick death so we no longer have to see 137 promos for it every frickin' day.
Jeez - enough is enough.
WD20EURS Refurb for $82.99 with Promo code EMCXVVV72 good until 2/28/2013.
I've never bought a refurb before so I dont know much about them. Just thought I would pass the deal along if anyone is interested.
Can a Tivo Premiere record the output of an RF modulator? I have the 2 tuner OTA capable Tivo Preiere. I'd like to archive some stuff my DTV DVR before I disconnect it all together. Can I connect its VHS ouputs to an RF modulator and record it on the Premiere? Would I just tune the premiere to CH3? How would I tune to an analog channel 3 (as opposed to the cable card or atsc channel 3)? Anyone done this?
I've recently experienced a number of programs making slight title changes (read: additions) for particular seasons. The result has been missed recordings at critical season premieres.
Rupaul's Drag Race was called Rupaul's Drag Race:Allstars last season.
Young Justice became Young Justice:Invasion for their second season.
Just the couple of examples that came to mind.
I realize there's a lot of this info that just comes from the providers and it plays heck with the "new" label on episodes all the time, but from one season to another, we should have a more reliable Season Pass.
I have Season PAsses for many shows. They work fine. The problem I get now is that it seems the show is going thru reruns and my Season Pass is set for New Shows only. Since the batch of reruns have the generic show description and no specific episode name or number, the Tivo selects these as new shows and I have to wade thru the ToDoList and delete them. I dont think there is anyway around this. Dont know if it is worth trouble to set up a "do not record" scenario (I do not know how to do this).
I love the NEW icon telling me a show is a new episode!!!
I think this show is very funny and well-written, and I really look forward to it coming on. Anyone else watching? It is not as good as Arrested Development, but I consider the humor in the two shows to be similar.
Hi, I just switched to Dish after Comcast and I have a premiere. I want to use my premiere to record some great channels that Dish does not have, like MEtv and hd network. If I record all my network programs on my tivo that leaves more room on my hopper for cable recordings.
Anyways, do i need a special antenna to get the ota channels on my premiere ? If yes, I would appreciate any recommendations for least expensive. TIA !
File this one under Left Field. LG just announced a deal to acquire the remnants of webOS. If you’ll recall, webOS sprung to life as Palm’s next generation smartphone platform and answer to the iPhone… before being snapped up by HP. While HP had grand intentions of webOS powering mobile devices, printers, and PCs (!), [...]

So, My series 3, HD tivo's hard drive just pooped out (it was due after 3 1/2 years) and I ordered a new tivo premier box from Tivo for $150.
My question is, what can I do with my old box? If I replace the HD, I really don't think I can even get on craigs list or ebay what I would pay for a replacement HD, right?
Seems like such a waste to just chuck it. Wanted to see if I was missing anything...any ideas?
