I want my .mpeg video files folder that reside on a DLNA device on the network via Gigabit to be mapped to my Windows 7/8 Desktop so that Tivo Desktop Pro will show and serve the videos in this DLNA folder.
Why isn't this possible and why wouldn't everyone be clamoring for this easy solution to storing Terabytes of data and accessing it from any Tivo in the house?
I own 3 Tivo DVRs from Series 3 to Premiere, all have WD hard drive extenders allowing me to store TV broadcasts. Once those are full I straight copy the .Tivo files to .mpeg files and store them on the 3TB DLNA Network device.
Problem: I can't see the files from Tivo. Tivo Desktop software wont map the DLNA drive eventhough it is in my Network Folder on my desktop etc...
Windows will not create a true mapped share without setting it to "offline" mode, which for Windows means copying every file from the 3TB drive to my local harddrive--that's unacceptable and short sighted.
Am I being hamstrung on purpose? What are my options to stream the .mpeg movies that reside on my Western Digital DLNA device via the Gigabit network through my Tivo. My other devices will stream the movies, albeit with a clunky interface, using PLEX app. But I want to use my Tivo!
PS. Yes I have looked for this answer throughout the forums. Confusing and unrelated questions abound.
Just wondering if any eSATA/FAT32 external hard drive can be used as an expander, or if the TiVo sold unit has proprietary firmware necessary to connect it.
"Lindsay's Arrested Development"
Took me a bit to adjust to Portia de Rossi's look. What happened?
She's always been my favorite. After Michael, her twin brother... Not really.
One of the absolutely clueless-est. :-)

The butter bit made me laugh out loud, and then just got gross.

Camp KissaMeMommy was just what you'd expect from Lucille and Buster. That kid did a great Buster.
Ron Howard really pulls it all together. So much can come through those little tidbits.
I have a THR22 with an external drive. Please note, this happens with or without the external drive, same error.
Swivel search does not work. Prior to the last software update 01B5, it would just say "Please wait" and return me to the Find Programs Menu. Now it gives me a "network is currently unavailable" message. I assume this is an improvement
I am able to download VOD. Network diagnostics pass. Ports pass. DNS pass. DVR Service Call pass.
Changed switch ports, changed Ethernet ports on the THR22. Tested with my laptop.
Run through guided setup and network setup several times. Set static IP, gateway, DNS, and subnet mask manually.
I've rebooted, hard and soft, refreshed. Called DirecTV who put me on hold for 20 while trying to find out what a THR22 and swivel search are.
This has probably been discussed, but I've searched for an hour and couldn't come up with any solution. I've contacted Tivo & Netflix and they keep telling to ask the other company. So I have no answers, and I'm hoping maybe one of you can help me out.
I have a Series 4 with a wireless adapter. They told me to try to hardwire my TiVo to the modem but that's not possible for me to do.
Anyway, the videos on Netflix aren't streaming consistently, most of the time it works, but once every week (random days, and it has been getting worse lately) the videos won't stream. I can load up the Netflix app, and the queue and suggestions are showing up but there's an error when I launch the video. (Hulu and YouTube work perfectly 100% of the time)
I get 10+mbps where my TiVo is according to a speed test I ran on my phone. My signal strength on TiVo is 85% and that's pretty average. My PS3 runs netflix in my room but I like to keep that out in the living room. Basically Netflix works on every device perfectly except TiVo.
So could it still be a network problem? Since everything is fine I honestly don't know what my ISP could possibly do.
I hope that was enough details, sorry if that was tough to read, I posted this on my phone.
Thanks for reading, and thanks for the help.
The new season of Continuum starts in a few days here (SyFy, June 7, 10PM). I added a season pass this morning for it, selected "First Run" and when I looked to see what was scheduled, nothing was. "View upcoming episodes" showed a boatload of episodes, but none, including the one I know to be the season premiere were scheduled to record.
I chat'ted with support and the guy suggested deleting the season pass and adding it again (I did that once, it didn't do any good), then he suggested going through guided setup two more times, once with incorrect info (wrong zip, wrong cable provider), and once again with the correct info. I've done neither yet, as what I've read online seems to imply this is an issue because the show has already aired in Canada and not in the US.
Can someone else who is recording this show confirm that the new episode isn't recorded by default as a new episode?
Is "Glee" done for 2013? Seems like it's been a few weeks since I have seen an episode on my TiVo.
IIRC, the last one I saw was where they won the sectionals (or was it regionals?) that were hosted at McKinley High. I think this episode also involved Brittney being deemed super smart by MIT and Unique coming out as the "Catfisher"
Did I miss an episode somehow? Or was that it?
I have a Tivo HD and a Tivo Premiere, with with lifetime. Just 2 weeks ago, when I wanted transfer a recording from Premiere to HD, the Premiere wasn't listed in the Now Playing option. Same with the other way around (although it showed with a red exclamation point and said it couldn't connect or was unavailable).
Both connect out fine to the Tivo service, I rebooted both, signal strength is good, and in my account on tivo.com it shows as shareable.
I have FIOS with that Actiontec router, but I have made no changes to any settings on it, but could there be some blocking going on with it?
I have transferred shows all the time up to this problem 2 weeks ago.
Any ideas for me to try?
So I threw a Mini into our guest room, and my wife uses it about once a week. However, when she does, she has to unplug and replug it. It doesn't wake up from sleep with the Tivo button. Is this normal? Do I need to get a replacement? Anyone else having this issue?
Wired 100 ethernet on both ends, MOCA off, no tuners allocated so no live TV, recorded shows only (I turned them off after installation.)
Looks like BBCA is shuffling some things around. According to their blog post dated April 4th
, the fifth and final season of "Being Human" (UK) was supposed to premiere in the States on June 8th, and the three part mini-series "In the Flesh" was supposed to premiere on August 3rd.
The latest post dated May 22nd
, now has "In the Flesh" starting two months early on June 6th, and "Being Human" starting one month later on July 13th.
Just thought I'd let those that are interested know.
Hi All, I have a Tivo Premiere that is working well but at times I approach 90% so I delete HD series I don't watch...
I have a 1tb esata drive already installed, I am thinking about upgrading the internal drive through weakness.
If I did weaknees I'd go with (2) TB drives + the $79 delux upgrade where they copy my settings and recordings from my Premiere to my new hard drives.
- Replace your drive(s) with 640 Hours* - Two 2 TB Drives - more info
- $399.99 - Eligible for Free Ground Shipping
Debating getting a Premiere xl4 but my $7 monthly will go up to $13.
Not terrible, that's a cup of coffee but something to consider.
What other advantages are there to a new box besides the 4 tuners, rarely do I have a need to record more than 2 shows at once.
So I'm currently with TivoHD and Premiere XL4 and will be changing from TW to Verizon FIOS.
If I re-run the guided setup what do I lose (I think you have to do that when you change cable cards AND providers??)
I don't think the season passes should be lost, because you can use that tivo season pass manager (or at the least, move them to one of my other Tivo's and move it back).
But what about recordings?
It's been ages since I've had to run a guided setup.
Does the motherboard on a Tivo HD DVR go bad very often? Any experiences?
Many times I am watching a recording and I switch to live TV. If I am within the last five minutes I get the menu to delete or keep. I don't want to delete obviously and if I hit keep, the bookmark is lost. So, I learned that if you know you are near the end, hit pause before hitting the live button. If you hit live and get the menu, you have to hit rewind and then pause and then live.
Frankly I wish the menu choice didn't exist, but maybe others feel it is useful?
Has anyone successfully removed and installed the chip on another Tivo DVR?
I was just passed a TIVO that was not booting. STUCK at welcome screen. The power was cut off to the device abruptly and it hasn't boot since. Everything points to the HD having failed in reading however I remove the drive and I can hear and feel it spinning. I plugged the drive into windows 8 and in the system management I can see the unallocated 1TB drive.
Did I just mess up the boot sector?
I feel this drive has some life and would like to wipe and restart it. Everything I have read appears to require backing up the existing working drive and using this image on the new drive. I am not upgrading to larger disk, just hoping I can make the current one work.
Can someone please guide me. In reading I think I need an image for model and tools to load the image on the drive. Looking forward to hearing from the group. Thanks in advance.
I guess even if we get the disk right there is still a possibility the power supply is not functioning as designed but we will cross that road when we get there.
I think I laughed more at this episode than the previous four combined. I don't know if I'll ever be able to see Jerry Bruckheimer's logo again without thinking to myself, "Driving action toward love through a storm until lightning hits a tree."
I have a Premier XL 2 tuner in my office. I rarely use it standalone, I mainly just have it to record analog only stations which I then stream to my Elite in the living room. However on occasion I do watch it directly. Anyway I was having a problem with the IR remote where sometimes it would not respond to commands. I thought it was the remote so I tried another one. Same thing. I then thought maybe it was being obstructed so I broke out my slide remote. However even with the Slide I'm having the same problem.
Any ideas what might cause this? There are no IR blasters, or anything else in the room, that would cause interference. Could this be an issue with the CableCARD or Tuning Adapter? Or maybe a power supply problem?
It's really annoying. Especially when I start FFing and then can't stop because it wont respond to the remote. So if there is any way to fix it I'd love to hear about it.
I have two TiVo HDs in my house with CableCards from Time Warner. About three months ago, they started turning to CNN by themselves. It's very random. It happens in the middle of the day and middle of the night, two times a day or once a week. If it happens while in the middle of recording, it continues to record. However, I've also come home to find recordings are half of what I set and half CNN. Once it turns to CNN, nothing works except rebooting. Has anyone else experienced anything like this? Any suggestions? Thanks in advance.
