In a recent episode radio communications between officers played a central role. Obviously noone involved with obtaining props for the show is an amateur radio operator.
In the show the cophouse base radio was repeatedly shown tuned to the 20-meter ham band which is exclusively assigned to the amateur radio service in the US not public service. And, even if they had FCC special permission to use it, it is not particularly effective for local communications.
And finally, one of the detectives used a handheld radio to communicate with the base radio but handheld units are not manufactured for this band.
Let the "so whats" begin. ;)
Since we haven’t actually gotten around to an in-depth review of the newer HD Slingboxes or covered the current state of Sling’s webplayer (that has essentially replaced Mac and PC desktop software), we figured we should at least touch on this little nugget that Engadget turned up. In years and devices past, sharing one’s Slingbox [...]

I have two Motorola tuning adapters and both exhibit the same behavior, so I believe I can rule out a hardware issue. That said, I'm wondering if anyone else is experiencing the following:
Every time my cable company experiences an outage or my power goes out, my tuning adapters go out of sync with a flashing amber light and has caused me to miss recordings especially if I'm traveling. No matter how long I leave them, they will never go back in sync unless I power cycle them and this usually solves the issue. There are times however, where multiple power cycles are necessary to get them back in sync. My cable company (Bright House) seems clueless as to why this is happening and can't seem to produce an answer.
Yet another frustrating issue with tuning adapters and SDV...
I have an old Series 2 (AT&TiVo) that is now connected to a DTA. I set up the DTA over 6 months ago, and everything has been working fine.
But today, after maybe a week of not watching this TV, I turn it on and find that all of the video looks scrambled. This is on every channel. The TiVo menus look fine, only the channel video is scrambled. I assumed a problem with the DTA and power-cycled it.
However, that didn't fix it, so I hit Standby on the TiVo, which enables RF passthrough so I can see the DTA output directly on the TV. Low and behold, the video looks just fine. All of the channels look good.
But when I go back to the TiVo, all the video is still scrambled. I restarted the TiVo, which didn't help at all. Then I re-ran Guided setup to repeat the cable box setup. That didn't help either, as all through Guided setup the video was scrambled still.
How can the TiVo be scrambling what appears to be a perfectly good video signal? Could it be a hardware failure? I wasn't able to find any similar reports on the forum.
Thanks for any help.
What is Actinic Keratosis?
Actinic Keratosis is a skin disorder in which involves very small, elevated rough and reddish bumps on the skin when a person has had a lot of sun exposure lately. This condition is common and most apparent in those with fair complexion and neat skin. The severe form of this disease can lead to skin cancer but at initial stages this disorder is less harmful but causes major discomfort. The bumps and lesions formed on the skin due to Actinic Keratosis are reddish in color and their texture is quite rough.
How is it caused?
Actinic Keratosis is caused due to several reasons amongst them all the major reason is excessive exposure to sun. People having fair skin are more prone to this disorder and those with blue or green eyes or even blond or red hair. Those who have had a kidney transplant in the past are also at a higher risk of suffering from this disorder. Medicines that usually suppress the immune system can also be a major cause of origination of Actinic Keratosis. Not just this severe sunburns and old age is also an eminent factor that leads to this skin disorder so one has to be very careful especially those with very fair complexion.

I have a Premiere on 1 tv and a Series 3 on another tv - two separate rooms.
All of a sudden today, both are choking on a small handful of channels. The rest seem to be fine.
Anyone in Seattle, with Comcast have any issues with 104, 109, 112 or 114? (4, 9, 12 and 14 are fine) I'm in Pioneer Square.
Comcast can't find anything so they are sending someone out on Thursday but I can't believe the fix is here. It's not critical. I'm not missing any content, I just think it's weird.
So it looks like one of my TiVo HDs hard drive is dying. Got three code 7s in the S.M.A.R.T. test. It's a 1TB drive that was swapped into it a few years ago (actually, I think I got it on EBay already upgraded). I have some other smaller drives lying around, so I'm wondering the following...
1. If I use a hard drive cloning dock, can I copy the dying HDD to a new one (preserving recorded shows, system settings, account info, etc.)?
2. Can I copy to a smaller HDD (e.g. 500GB) if I delete enough shows from the 1TB drive before the copy?
3. Will copying from the bad drive potentially write bad data to the new drive? Or is it more likely a hardware issue causing the code 7s?
I'm pretty computer savvy, so I could also do a traditional copy/swap. I just read that the cloning docs work faster. I also picked up another TiVo HD off Craigslist for $25. So if all else fails I can start fresh. Although I'd rather not lose all my shows (or have to TTG 1TB worth of content).
Would appreciate some assistance. The following error has sarted appearing when I try and push a file to my tivo:
ERROR : pyTivo.video.video:unsupported.operand.type(s) for :/ 'str' and 'int'
Never had this issue before. Can someone with more programaming skill than I point me in the right direction?
Gator Boys new season starts Sunday 7/28.
Thought I might post what I did with my two old Tivo's. I have a series 1 Sony and also a Philips 112. The Sony 's hard drive started acting up after just 13 years. Haha. It has a lifetime subscription and I use it in my basement work out room. So thought about weekknees but wasn't sure the 100 bucks was worth keeping it going. So I had the Philips sitting in a closet for quite a few years. I know the capacity is low but it's not that important. So I pulled the hard drive out of both of them and installed the Phillips in the Sony. Booted right up and once I did the guide set up the lifetime subscription is working and no more skipping and audio screw ups.
Long story short, I wanted to find an alternative to satellite tv. I installed an antenna and was able to get beautiful hdtv, but needed a way to record and do all the things vcr's used to do. Research told me Tivo Premier was the ticket. I ordered one thru their "refurbished" offer.
I got it in early April, set it up and it worked as advertised. We did not use it all the time, as I was trying to convert my wife to the new system. The first of June my wife was home sick and wanted to watch an old movie on Netflix.
What she got was "no service". Our internet connection was no more. As we have wifi, several computers and other devices that were working fine, I called tech support. They advised me that since I was using a non-TIVO wifi receiver with my box, they offered no support.
I bought a TIVO wifi device, hooked it to a laptop to set it up which took only seconds, because it would not set up at the TIVO box, then moved it to the TIVO box. NO INTERNET CONNECTION.
I spent literally hours on the phone and in chat with customer service and tech support trying and retrying a connection. Mind you, this was about 60 days after I bought the thing and I was told there was a 30 day warranty and a 60 day warranty by different reps.
I was advised they would not replace the machine, they could not say for sure that it did not operate. What am I supposed to do with a device that does not work and ,according to their website, has a 90 DAY WARRANTY?
I canceled my service.
The guaranty that TIVO does honor is that you will pay for the contract, working or not, if you cancel early. They are sending us to collection for $210 on a device that failed after no more than 60 days.
...you're gonna HATE the new season of Top Chef Masters starting tomorrow night (Weds 7/24/13)!!
The TV contest will be affected by the online performance of the Chefs' sous chefs. If a sous wins, the MC contestant gets an advantage in the TV show and, if they do badly, the MC gets a handicap!
They're actually trying to FORCE you to watch the online content!!
This kind of stuff is only going to get worse. It's the attempt to get people to watch online content or get an "enhanced experience" by getting the app that's going to kill a lot of shows for people like me who watches later with a DVR.
My setup includes a TV and a Harman Kardon receiver. I want to use the remote to:
- Turn the TV on and off
- Turn the receiver on and off
- Control the volume of the receiver
Unfortunately, the receiver's remote has separate On and Off buttons. I am able to program the TiVo remote to Turn the TV On/Off and the receiver On (or Off, but not both).
I want to push the power button on the remote and have both the TV and the receiver turn on. Then push the power button again and have both the TV and the receiver turn off.
Are there any practical solutions to this? I've tried programming the Tivo power button on the remote to perform (1) TV Power, (2) Receiver On, then (3) Receiver Off in the hopes that the receiver wouldn't pick up the Off signal as it is starting up. However, the receiver is too quick and this did not work.
Any suggestions? Any way to create a macro on the TiVo remote? E.g., alternate the power button between On and Off commands for the receiver?
Any help is appreciated.
Hello all - found a somewhat related topic here but not exactly the info I need.
I bought a WD TV Live PLus (http://goo.gl/sVtfI9
) so I could watch HuluPlus on tv, since, as we all know, S3 doesnt support flash /hulu plus. Anyway I was wondering if there is a remote control command to go BACKWARDS thru the inputs. I have like 10 inputs that the RC goes thru and I only use 2, so it would a real timesaver to go up and down only ONE input.
Tried holding input button and down button (near SELECT) and of course that didnt work. Also searched for guide on all the commands you can do with the remote and couldnt find anything beyond the basics. Would love a link to one if it is available.
Season 2 starts Sunday, 07/28/2013 @2100 EDT on CBS.
Umm, WTF! Bomb shelter gurl gets out and when Crazy boy shows up, she comforts him? I know about the Stockholm Syndrome, but come on!
Yep, Big Jim is as crazy as expected. Even though he did release the girl. But, he did kill the Rev.
I'm no meteorologist, so how does wind blow inside the dome? Also, I didn't realize that Chet's Mill borders on the ocean.
I assume that this is set in contemporary times, so I'd love to see how Jay Carney will spin the WH okaying the release of MOAB on an American city. ;) BTW, the blast radius of that thing is HUGE! What's next, nukes?
Just wondering for you using OTA .. I have it in the attic and I get pretty good reception.. just wondering how much of a difference it might make to stick it on the roof.. is it really worth the effort? thanks....
