Iphone as a hotspot to download programming

TiVoCommunity Forum Recent Threads - Mon, 03/11/2013 - 17:44
Hi,

I've heard I can use my iphone 5 to download programming to my tivo under network settings. Right now, I don't have wifi. My Iphone signal is not appearing under networks and when I try to add it as a network it's not working. How do I do this? I have an older tivo.

thanks!

Is there anyway to give a gift of tivo?

TiVoCommunity Forum Recent Threads - Mon, 03/11/2013 - 17:25
Is there anyway to give someone a gift of a tivo with lifetime? It looks like tivo used to have gift cards but discontinued them a few years ago. When you buy a tivo from tivo.com you have to sign up for service and there does not appear to be anyway to give it as a gift?

What a miserable voyage.
I saw an article recently saying someone discovered a real Viking Sunstone.
Where would the Monk who spoke Norse have traveled to to learn it?

TiVo Series 5

TiVoCommunity Forum Recent Threads - Mon, 03/11/2013 - 12:50
I wanted to start a thread about the series 5 for rumors when it might be released, any features people might want, etc.

I was going to purchase 2 Minis and an XL4, but I've decided to wait until the new series comes out. Was hoping for faster processor and 6 tuners.

I loved the rendition of Kanye West's Stronger.

The titular moment was certainly memorable. I don't think I have ever seen "mayonnaise" portrayed quite so graphically on HBO.

Q-Tip's legal probably hated this episode. :)

Transfers to Tivo Desktop Failing

TiVoCommunity Forum Recent Threads - Mon, 03/11/2013 - 11:27
I have a Tivo XL4 with the 4 tuners that as recently replaced under extended warranty, but dont think that is the issue.

I am using Tivo Desktop 2.6.2 as that has always been stable.

Now all my transfers between my Tivo and the Tivo server fail. - Function Failed during execution.

I have cleared cache and made sure the firwall is off. Am using Microsoft Security Essentials on the Tivo server but that hasnt changed either.

Thought it may have been file size but even 30 minute shows wont transfer.

Units are wired and not wireless.

Thoughts?

Thanks

"Apocolypse" type shows and group dynamics. A discussion

TiVoCommunity Forum Recent Threads - Mon, 03/11/2013 - 11:25
Off the bat got to let people know there could be spoilers for any show that has "apocalypse" feel to it. Walking Dead, Falling Skies, Jericho...et al...

I am intrigued by how groups react to these conditions. In shows like Walking Dead you have no trust between groups and when one groups sees another it is very standoff-ish. Sometimes they join up sometimes they remain adversaries. In shows like Falling Skies whenever they come across "survivors" they immediately are trust worthy unless they give the reason not to be. I wonder if this is due to the cause of the apocalypse being man made (zombies, contagion, nuclear war) or alien invasion. In the alien invasion scenario groups seems to be more willing to join together to fight a common enemy, even though you know at some point you are going to have to compete for resources. Off the bat on survival shows they are already in survival mode. Always worrying if the new group is after food or weapons.

It really gets me curious how characters are written to react. In any circumstance I think I would be trying to join up and create a "safe haven" no matter what. In a scenario like alien invasion sure you are more at "war" then if you are just concerned about infected or zombies. I think the zombie scenario of getting to an island is best option.

I guess no one else is gonna start a thread so I will.

It was great seeing Rick face-off against the Governor. The next time they meet should be a good one!

The Governor said his name, but I cannot think of it right now. Anyone else catch it?

Loved the zombie-killing contest between Daryl and the guy from the other side. Especially how one of Daryl's arrows went through the zombie girl and into the neck of he zombie guy.

Some good stuff from The Talking Dead:

Spoiler: The girl that plays Maggie is HAWT! And speaks with a British accent even though she is an American.

The guy that plays the Governor is British and fashioned his American accent off of Bill Clinton!

Swap Wireless-G for MoCA Adapter?

TiVoCommunity Forum Recent Threads - Mon, 03/11/2013 - 09:09

I don't know if anyone here on the TCF would be interested in such a trade, but I figured I would give it a shot anyway.

I have a brand-new in the box, unused, TiVo Wireless-G adapter which I got as part of a bundle. I did open the package to check the contents before putting it away (common sense), but otherwise it is untouched.

Is there anyone that received one of those Actiontec MoCA adapters with a bundle that they are not using and would like to swap?

It might be a longshot, but maybe there is someone out there that has an unneeded/unused Actiontec MoCA adapter from TiVo that is collecting dust for whatever reason and might want to flip it for something they can use.

shark tank 3.8.13

TiVoCommunity Forum Recent Threads - Mon, 03/11/2013 - 08:25
wow the kids party people needed a new spokesman. Also the heavy editing was really obvious. i think they marketed their idea wrong and the sharks took the sponsorship in the wrong way. of course i do agree if sponsors were really lined up they wouldnt be in the tank. but maybe the producers saw a successfull thing and let them in the show to get their 5% cut. shows you that the show can be 'rigged' a certain way.

i'm shocked about the cowboy, i wonder how much time passed before daymond really said yes. appeared instant on the show

the phone protection thing seemed like a spam email from the get go plus who wants to wait 3 days for a phone. more than 1 person will definitely abuse the system and they will be out of business very soon

bean bag buy got very lucky and he knew it. the other sharks were probably shocked as was i.

TiVo Launches TiVo Mini, Extends Whole-Home Viewing Experience

Big Footprint, Small Price Extends Live, Recorded, Video On Demand and OTT Content Around the House

SAN JOSE, CA -- (Marketwire) -- 03/11/13 -- TiVo Inc. (NASDAQ: TIVO), the creator of digital video recorders (DVRs) and a leader in advanced television services, today announced the retail availability of TiVo(R) Mini, an all-purpose companion device that allows TiVo users to access apps and affordably extend the viewing of live TV, recorded and streaming content, as well as on-demand* programming, to rooms throughout their homes without an additional TiVo DVR.

TiVo Mini is not a DVR, but extends the value of a TiVo four-tuner DVR, the TiVo Premiere 4 or the TiVo Premiere XL4, using one of the DVR's tuners to enable the control and access of content on a TV in another room of the house. TiVo Mini features a much smaller footprint than a DVR and users will enjoy the same intuitive and award-winning TiVo user interface. They will be able to control their main TiVo DVR by scheduling recordings and WishList(R) searches, among other activities. Users will even be able to start a show in the living room and finish it on a TiVo Mini in another room.

"The TiVo Mini answers the demand for a simplified whole-home viewing experience and a more cost-effective solution than putting another DVR or cable set-top box in another room," said Jim Denney, GM and VP of Product Marketing for TiVo Inc. "With so many viewing options in a compact form factor, TiVo Mini makes it easier to get more value from your existing home entertainment set up by further enabling you to watch what you want, where you want it."

Measuring six-inches long and just over an inch wide, TiVo Mini's minimalist design streamlines the entertainment center in additional rooms of the home and offers access to integrated apps, including YouTube, Hulu Plus, Pandora, and Spotify, with more apps planned. In addition to TV, movies, and music, the TiVo Mini will include a gaming component. Users can access and play a variety of games, including Quizzmaster, Black Jack and Wordsmith. Through Google Picasa and Photobucket integrations on the TiVo Mini, users can also
access their photos on TV screens throughout the home.

TiVo Mini Specifications and Requirements:

-- Requires 4-tuner TiVo DVR
-- Compatible TiVo DVR models include:
-- TiVo Premiere 4
-- TiVo Premiere XL4 (previously Premiere Elite)
-- Requires Coax/MoCA or Ethernet broadband connection. (Wireless
networks are not supported)
-- Dimensions: 1.25" x 6.12" x 6.12"
-- Weight: 0.78 lbs
-- Requires that the TiVo Mini be installed and activated on the same
account and network as the main DVR

Pricing and Availability
The TiVo Mini is now available through tivo.com/mini and will be available March 17th, 2013 from authorized retailers for $99.99, with a monthly subscription fee of just $5.99 for a 12-month commitment. Alternatively, users can opt to purchase the TiVo Mini with lifetime service for a one-time cost of $249.98. For more information on TiVo Mini or any of TiVo's products, please

Once Upon A Time 3/10/2013 "The Miller's Daughter"

I should know better than to ask...

Why the total freak out that Cora has been killed? Just prior to this they were armed with swords facing off against Cora and Regina. Wasn't the goal of that to kill Cora (and possibly Regina)?

Since we knew somebody was getting killed in this episode I was betting it was going to be Neal/Baelfire.

Tivo HD with lifetime for $150!

TiVoCommunity Forum Recent Threads - Sun, 03/10/2013 - 23:08
hmmmm.... I don't know if this is the right place to post this. If it isn't please just delete it and don't give me another infraction, Mr./Ms. Moderator. One more and that would violate my parole and I'll be back the big house for life. :o
Just kidding.
Anyway...
this guy has Tivo for sale on craigslist
http://denver.craigslist.org/ele/3671067174.html
I met him today, but when I called TiVo to verify that it had lifetime they said that on March 24th it would have lifetime as that is when his monthly contract ran out and his credit card would be charged for the lifetime at the $99 rate. They told me to wait till then to buy it. I guess he could cancel the payment before March 24th and I would have a TiVo without lifetime and be out of the $150 I was going to pay him. So I didn't buy it.
But then as I drove away, why couldn't TiVo just charge him for the $99 right now. What difference did it make if he had it paid up till the 24th!!?? He hadn't even plugged it in for weeks since he bought a Premiere.
But anyway, if anyone in the Denver area is interested in a Tivo with lifetime for cheap, it is still listed.

Mini Ethernet/MoCa question

TiVoCommunity Forum Recent Threads - Sun, 03/10/2013 - 22:51
I have Comcast and to get both the internet and cable to perform the best, they put in two lines, one for each. My "internet" line comes in and goes directly into my cable modem. The other cable outlets found all over the house are attached to the other "cable" line.

In my particular case, MoCA is not going to work is it? As I understand it, you put the MoCA unit before the cable modem. That in turn is supposed turn the cable outlets in MoCA cable outlets, correct?? Maybe I'm not understanding MoCA , so please feel free to explain how I am wrong.

I know Tivo says that you can't use wifi adaptors in the Mini units. Could you instead use an Apple Express 2 to wirelessly extend the network and use the ethernet port out of the Express to ethernet input for the Mini?

Trying to figure out whether to wait for a 6 tuner with a Mini or a 4 tuner now and a 4 tuner later

The TiVo Mini Review

Zatz Not Funny! - Sun, 03/10/2013 - 22:34
TiVo’s been talking up their DVR extender over a year, since it was first introduced last February as the IP-STB. And, while we didn’t get the 2012 retail launch we were hoping for, the TiVo Mini ($100, plus service) has finally arrived. But is it everything we’d hoped for? Instead of sprinkling a number of DVRs [...]
