Granted they are "Developer Community Forums" but you would think Tivo would pay attention to them to see if they can help answer any questions for NEW developers. They have a new SDK for develpoers to build apps that run on their boxes and they completely ignore the developers there that are asking questions. No wonder there are so few people willing to develop anything for this box. I do love my Tivo, hate the lack of professionalism with the staff.
My Tivo unit started making loud noises from the HD and crashed. I thought I could replace with a 2TB WD AV-GP WD20EURS drive, but now reading some posts - I'm not so certain due to 2TB size and the HD model. Before sending back the HD to Amazon and buying a preloaded HD from Weaknees or DVD-Dude, is it possible to use this drive as a replacement?

My network consists of an Airport Extreme router, a lot of switches hardwired and 2 Airport Expresses which function as range extenders. When in areas where the Airport Expresses are in play extending the wireless network there is severe video stutter using the Tivo Stream. If I deactivate the AEs then the stream works fine. Work around is to download the show to the iOs device and then start watching after a few minutes, this avoids the stutters.
Just wanted to pass this along to others considering the Tivo Stream who might have similar network setups.
I have a Series 3 (OLED) TiVo that has a dead hard drive and it needs to be replaced. This unit is not heavily used & basically just in a basement rec room for when guests/family are using the area.
I am looking at some 250GB & 500GB SATA replacements, but was also contemplating maybe getting a SSD drive and maybe experiment with it in this S3 unit. If I get it and it doesn't work, I would plan to just stick this SSD drive in a custom PC so no biggie. I also realize its probably not cost effective at all to go with a SSD vs a SATA, but am willing to take the hit & try it out if it maybe helps speed up performance.
Has anyone had any success with these in TiVos? I have used WinMFS before to put an image on a previous S3 drive and did it successfully. Can the same be done here? Or is it maybe more involved and trickier?
Is there anyway to increase the buffer size on internet video viewing like you tube?
My internet is not fast enough, so if I try to watch HD internet video, it's very choppy. If I can put it on pause for a few minutes and let it buffer, then viewing it wouldn't be so choppy. However, it seems that Tivo would only buffer a small amount. So if I pause for 10 sec, vs. 3 minuts, it's still the same amount of video buffered.
Is it possible to see your saved files from your Tivo box?
Yesterday evening, I turned on the TV and found all channels were mostly black with a tiny bit of "noise" garbage every now and then. Recordings for several hours showed the same thing, as did testing every channel I had. Nothing - period - showed up.
I restarted the TiVo and problem was gone. Tonight, same problem.
I'm a FiOS user with a year old Premier XL and have been happy up to this point. Any ideas?
I've seen posts here about not having TiVo suggestions record, and I have called TiVo several time on the issue. They had me reboot, delete and redo thumbs, delete and re download program info, etc. Now I can see a few suggestions in the Browse TV & Movies screen, but only two or three, and no suggestions show in the To Do list. The other day I actually saw a suggestion record but the recoding ended and to my surprise it did not save.
I'm seeing the exact same behavior on 2 new Tivos. I wish they would fix this.:(
I trying to create a favorites list of channels but it does not appear to be working. I selected several channels to be added to my favorites by clicking the thumbs up but only a few channels stuck. If I go back in and re-select a channel to be a favorite...it does not added it to the list. What is going on?

I have a Series 3 (OLED) that needs a new hard drive. The current ones failed the WD extended test so I'm looking to simply get another 250GB one since this is not a heavily used unit. Its used in a basement rec room and more or less a cable box for down there (with occasional MRV to Premieres upstairs).
While I am not sure I would do this & its really out of curiosity, I searched ebay for some 250GB Western Digital drives since this size doesn't seem to be available in new units. Came across one that said the drives have "been wiped and passed a surface scan"
Is a "surface scan" thorough enough? Or can there still possibly be problems similar to what was detected on my current TiVo hard drive (via an extended test only).
Currently I am using gPodder to grab video podcasts to a directory on my server, then use pyTivo (which uses ffmpeg) to convert and push them to my Tivo Premiere XL4. gPodder wouldn't launch without installing Python (even though it was already installed) and it installed a 64-bit version. This overwrote the 32-bit version of Python (2.7) that I originally installed for pyTivo and broke it. I installed autopush for pyTivo as a service which requires Java 32-bit, and if you let Java update itself it installs 64-bit over 32-bit which breaks autopush. I have scripts that run on the Task Scheduler to clean up old downloaded files.
You see the problem? Yes it works, kind of, but maintenance is a PITA! It's like a Rube Goldberg mouse-trap puzzle.
Are there any native Windows alternatives to pyTivo to push these videos to the Tivo? Are there any .NET libraries that I can build on? What's the future of pyTivo as technology moves on?
Once automated the system provides a slick, albeit complicated solution but I wonder if other people are going through all these hassles to get their video podcasts to their Tivo? FYI I've used the built-in podcast functionality of Tivo in the past, but many podcasts aren't on there and I can't remember if I can successfully input custom feeds. I'm pretty sure YouTube feeds aren't handled, and gPodder handles them perfectly.
Thanks for any info.
I have 2 Premieres, an XL that is not currently being used and has no current subscription attached to it, and a Premiere 4 that has an active subscription and is in use as the only DVR in the house. My question is this. Can I use the XL as a second unit in a multi room setup, if I connect it to my network, without a subscription? I realize that if this works it will never be a tuner but just a "slave" unit that allows playback only in another room. Thanks for any info.
Did anybody else watch this BBC America special on the first Doctor, William Hartnell? From what I watched, it was pretty interesting but I didn't know it was three hours long when I started. I fell asleep on it twice last night. I'll see if I can get through the rest of it today now that I know how long it is.
While CES now feels like forever ago, we’re still catching up on some of our notes and leftover photos. Among them are scrawled observations and camera shots covering the ”magical” new TV interface introduced by Cisco and Cox. (Yes, someone actually used that word.) I was struck by two things during the presentation that Dave and [...]
I just upgraded to a Premiere 4, so box is extra for me.
Model TCD648250, Series 3 HD with the OLED display. Lifetime service included. Internal drive is upgraded to 1TB (performed about 2 years ago). Everything works fine, I opened the box recently and the caps all look good, no bulging. Will include power cord, standard peanut remote, original 250GB drive, and a copy of instant cake in case the drive goes bad. The original drive does not have an image on it anymore. It was giving trouble, so I cleared and wrote zeros. After I wrote zeros, it tested fine, but no guarantees.
$350 shipped to CONUS.
My XL4 has spontaneously rebooted 4 times in the last six weeks and under the exact same conditions. On a Sunday I will be recording an early NFL game on one tuner and a second and later NFL game on second tuner and a different channel. While watching the first game I press the left arrow on the Select Pad to go back to the menu and the screen goes black and the TiVo XL4 reboots and then resumes recording the two games.
I was using the SD menu during above incidents, which brings me to another problem I encountered. Again using the SD menu I was watching a show I had recorded a few days earlier when I began to get artifacts, pixilation and sound distortion. Ive encounter this before but it only lasted for a few seconds, but this time it continued for several minutes until I gave up on the recording. Out of curiosity I changed to the HD menu interface and went back to the supposedly corrupted recording and now it played perfectly. One of the things I checked when I encountered these problems was to see if the TiVo was perhaps recording 4 things and was overloaded, but in each case there was never more that 2 red lights indicating a recording in progress.
Ive owned TiVos for about 12 years and I was pleased that TiVo gave me the option to use the SD menu as I found the HD menu to be some what sluggish while responding to the remote. I am starting wonder if using the SD menu contributing to my problems.

Since I have been feeling in a contrary mood lately - and aparently haven't already stirred the pot enough... I have another thought.
I was reading this article on Engadget for the TiVo Mini. I do love the idea of the Mini and I think we will all agree that dynamic tuner allocation is going to be the driving feature.
And according the the article it is coming:
At launch, the Mini will take over one of the four tuners of the XL4 if you want to watch live TV on it, but dynamic tuner allocation is on the road map
But I had a sinking feeling as I was answering another post this morning. Is it possible that the road map for dynamic tuner allocation exists only in the next platform upgrade?
Is that an S5 feature only? Dave Z brought up an interesting thought about the current sales and what could easily be inventory reduction strategies...
What do you guys think?
