Audio Sync

TiVoCommunity Forum Recent Threads - Tue, 10/08/2013 - 22:00
Yesterday I started experiencing audio sync issues. The only change was enabling MoCA for a TiVo mini and installing the requisite MoCA POE filter. The audio sync issue was both on the Roamio and mini on a couple channels and Netflix. I rebooted both devices and the audio sync remained. There are no amps or receivers between the TiVos and TVs.

I don't think it really took but one hour, but for sure by two hours I was invested in the characters and hooked on the story. I like Moray. Nothing gets by him and he really seems to care about his store and the people in it. It's nice to see how he sees most everything going on, one way or another, and gives credit where it's due.

I can't believe store employees actually lived in the store though. Crazy. No idea if it's true, but I'm presuming it probably is.

Anyway, I probably won't be posting any more threads beyond this or maybe the next, because I'm gonna go get all the episodes from other sources since this aired in the UK last year, and season 2 begins airing there in a couple weeks. I want to be caught up for that. :)

Go watch it.

Tivo won't do a season pass of Boardwalk or Homeland

TiVoCommunity Forum Recent Threads - Tue, 10/08/2013 - 21:32
I'm a brand new Tivo user. Got a Roamio Plus and a Mini. When I first set it up, I could record shows manually, but not do any season passes. A message said this may take a while. A day or so later, I started setting up all my season passes. All worked fine except those on HBO or Showtime. It's been a week and a half now, and it still won't let me setup a season pass on HBO or Showtime. The manual record option works fine, so those shows do record. I tried a reboot, and that didn't help. I'm on Cox. Any ideas? All of the other season passes seem to work fine.

So... uh, just like that the big plane is flying again? Apparently mostly on autopilot since the entire crew seems to be able to get together for the important pow-wow's where they plan who gets to go on the mission?

On the plus side, the truck driver was playing with pretty cool tech as he was looking for alternate routes. Considering he looked like, well, like a cousin of Larry the Cable Guy, the tech was unexpected.

The e-vite to get into the shareholder meeting was telegraphed from miles away. I kind of wish they'd have done the trained monkey that the wonder-twin was pushing for.

Ah well, back to watching the show for now.

So is Eddie dead?

I knew they were going to pin the murder in the dorm room on Willie's roommate. Doyle is in big trouble for sellng Willie the liquor. I'm sure his days are numbered.

The Capone scenes are just awesome. Van Alden is such and enigmatic character. He's cold blooded yet, sometimes bewildered. He's really caught in between. And I find it strange that O'Bannion hasn't wondered what happened to him. I'm sure that's going to be coming.

Is Margaret supposed to be in this season at all? Hardly a word from her, and not even any clue as to what she's doing now, other than she's living in Brooklyn.

The show is missing any significant nudity this season except for I think the first week.

Stuck Moving hacks after manual update 240

I'm manually updating a hacked 240 from 93.2b-01-2-14.0 to 93.2c-01-2-14.0. I'm trying to follow the guide at: http://john-time.com/?p=162 but it doesn't have examples of working commands. I have finished updating and now need to save the hacks. The directions say:
2.) Initrd the extracted virgin kernel with the following command:
cd /monte
./replace_initrd.mips <virgin_kernel>.img myinitrd.img(this is what is inserted into the virgin kernel) <tivo_version>.px (this is the kernel file that will be loaded during the monte process)

I have verified there is a 2.1 mb file in /tmp/tivo4/monte named "932_virgin_kernel.img"
I don't understand "myinitrd.img" what it is or where it is.
I don't understand <tivo_version>.px

Can somebody please give me any example of a working command to run to get past this point?

Tivo still crashes after replacing two capcitors

TiVoCommunity Forum Recent Threads - Tue, 10/08/2013 - 10:51
Appreciate all the valuable information I have learned here. Anyways, my Tivo HD goes offline every few days. Rebooting the Tivo fixes it. I assumed it was the power supply issue that was mentioned frequently on the forum.

I inspected my power supply and saw that in fact two capacitors were bulging. I replaced them this past Sunday.

I checked my Tivo this morning and there was no display coming from it again.

Do you think I should just replace all the capacitors or could it be something else causing problems. I do have a WD Expander plugged into it as well.

Thank you in advance.

My TiVos cant connect to new netgear router wifi

TiVoCommunity Forum Recent Threads - Tue, 10/08/2013 - 10:20
Hello all
I posted this at the tivo support forums hoping to get some employee feedback, but figured I would give it a shot here as well.

Im very well versed in networking (I do it for a living) and this one has me stumped!

I have both a TiVo HD and Roamio Plus that cannot connect to my Netgear WNDR4300 router over WiFi.

I just replaced my old router with this Netgear.
The TiVos were working fine with the previous router.

The new router has both 2.4g and 5g radios and the 5g SSID is different than my previous SSID.
Both networks use WPA2-AES

The Romaio is using the built in wireless
The HD is using the TiVo G adapter.

I tried joining the Roamio to the new 5g network and it never successfully connects.
I either get the N02 (DHCP) or N07 (Router problem) errors. Or sometimes it says my password is wrong (which i triple checked and it isnt wrong)
Same thing with the HD when I try to connect to the 2.4g network.
Ive even tried specifying an IP manually, but it doesnt help.

I have 5 other wireless devices in the house that can connect to both of the networks on the netgear.
All use DHCP and connect without issue.

The Netgear has options for network speed, depending on the radio selected I can choose "Up to 54, 130, 216, 300, 450"

What Ive found is that if I set the 2.4g network to "Up to 54mbps" & WPA2-TKIP the Roamio will connect.
(required restarting the Roomio though)
I didnt try this with the 5g network.

But connecting at 54mbps is far from ideal and would limit my other devices.

Connecting to the router with a cable works fine.
Unfortunately I was using a 30ft cable for testing - I dont have a jack close to either of the TiVos.

So I dont actually think its a DHCP problem, even though thats the error I receive the most.
(the router logs sometimes show an IP being assigned to the Roamio)

I think its more of a negotiation problem when the networks are set to their highest speeds.

I contacted Netgear but they were no help.
My previous router was a DLink N router and the TiVos had no problem, except the signal was somewhat weak. (which is why i bought the netgear)

So Im wondering if anyone else has come across a problem like this?

HIMYM: The Broken Code OAD 10/7/2013

TiVoCommunity Forum Recent Threads - Tue, 10/08/2013 - 08:21
I thought it had a couple of decent things in it. The Marshall via iPad was okay. Clearing the air with Barney about Robin was okay. The references to the Bro Code and Marshall doing the lawyer thing were good.

I wasn't impressed with the whole 'Robin needs to make new friends' story.

However, this is the second week in a row without the Mother. I want to see her and how she interacts with everyone. I want to see how she integrates into the story. This long, drawn out wedding is pointless.

You may now commence responding to my views telling me how they are totally wrong because your opinions differ from mine.

Moto X Camera: Is Better Good Enough?

Zatz Not Funny! - Tue, 10/08/2013 - 06:44

Late last week, AT&T Moto X owners were treated to a software update largely focused on improving camera performance. And, having had a unit in the house the last couple weeks, I can tell you its 10 megapixel camera is now more consistent, shot-to-shot, and white balance is more accurate. However, at the end of […]

Linux newbie needs help with tenet commands

I'm manually upgrading a hacked 240 from 93.2b-01-2-14.0 to 93.2c-01-2-14.0. I can no longer get guide data because of "restart pending" cycle. I'm trying to follow the guide at: http://john-time.com/?p=162 but it doesn't have examples of working commands. I have finished updating and now need to save the hacks. The directions say:
1.) Check what the current TiVO root partition is set to using the command – “bootpage -p /dev/hda”. This will return the full boot string – check what value is contained in the “root=/dev/hda…” parameter of this boot string. Make a temporary directory – mkdir /tmp/tivo<partition number that the TiVO upgrade installed to>
2.) mount /dev/hda<value of root= parameter from command issued above> /tmp/tivo<4 or 7>
I have tried everything I can think of. Examples of actual commands that really work would be so helpful. What am I doing wrong now?

PPV-TiVo# bootpage -p /dev/hda
root=/dev/hda4 dsscon=true console=2,115200 upgradesoftware=false
PPV-TiVo# mkdir /tmp/tivo4
PPV-TiVo# mount /dev/hda/tmp/tivo4
mount: can't find /dev/hda/tmp/tivo4 in /etc/fstab or /var/mtab
PPV-TiVo# mount /dev/hda /tmp/tivo4
mount: you must specify the filesystem type
PPV-TiVo# mount/dev/hda/tmp/tivo4
bash: mount/dev/hda/tmp/tivo4: No such file or directory
PPV-TiVo# mount /dev/hda4/tmp/tivo4
mount: can't find /dev/hda4/tmp/tivo4 in /etc/fstab or /var/mtab

Need feedback on newest DTV Tivo Units

TiVoCommunity Forum Recent Threads - Tue, 10/08/2013 - 00:09
So I'm in the market for new service and after a few years away from DTV I'm considering them again; however, probably the only reason I would go with them again is that they are once again in league with TiVo.

My only concern is that as they have been trying to market their own (use to be $#!ttier receivers) for years now, they purposely use substandard components for their TiVo units.

I'm speaking specifically about the new TiVo® HD DVR vs. their Genie offering.

Forget the size difference in the drives, what I'm most concerned with is:

1. Number of tuners for simultaneous recording

2. Interface...Is it the true TiVo interface from the HR250/SD-DVR40 days or some mashup of TiVo/Cable stuff like they tried to do on those cable boxes a few years back?

3. Is it fast enough to be useful?

4. Same old features or does it have some of the newer features on the standalone TiVo units?

Just for good measure, anyone that has the Genie chime in and let me know if it's worth it...

Newbie HD Upgrade question for Premier 4

TiVoCommunity Forum Recent Threads - Mon, 10/07/2013 - 18:20
Y'all - thank you for fielding this.
I realize there is ton's written about HD upgrades.
(That's actually the problem - way too much to wade through, and I want to make sure I'm doing this right.)

About the pull the trigger on Tivo's current sale for a factory-renewed TiVo Premiere 4.
I'd like to upgrade to a 2TB drive straight away.
I do not need to save anything from my existing Tivo. <<<
Fine to start from scratch.

I've heard legend that you can swap in the new HD, and Tivo takes care of the rest automatically (eg, formats the drive and sets it up for use.)

(I've also seen deeply involved articles/videos of needing to do a lot of manual setup to the new HD using a PC, boot disks, etc.)

Can someone confirm what I need to do here?
(Please help! Sale ends in a couple hours!)

Top Chef - New Orleans - season thread (spoilers)

TiVoCommunity Forum Recent Threads - Mon, 10/07/2013 - 17:30
So Top Chef has returned. Yay for not having the competition to get the coats, although it looks like there was some sort of sous chef competition or something, as Padma said that a few of them had immunity.

First challenge off the bat was an elimination challenge. No big surprise since there were so many of them. Nice to see that some people who didn't make it last season got a second chance at making it back in.

You'd expect that the chefs would be aware that they'd have the opportunity to cook frog legs, alligator, and turtle (although turtle not so much). Those are definitely foods that are region specific and you'd have to know that that would happen. Now, how often do you come across those foods elsewhere? Probably not as much. But if you have time to prepare, I'd imagine that you'd try and prepare regional items, including crayfish. Those are probably going to show up at some point.

As far as the new contestants - much will be made of the "good looking chef dude". They're already portraying him as the ego. Of course this means that he will make it through at least half of the season, or we'll lose some of our manufactured drama. :) We also have "Pretty chef girl in short shorts and flip flops in the kitchen". That's going to get on people's nerves as well. She will probably make it halfway as well. :p
