No Wireless to MoCa bridging?

TiVoCommunity Forum Recent Threads - Wed, 10/16/2013 - 00:08
I just purchased a TiVo Roamio Pro. I'm planning to add a Mini as well, but I was surprised and disappointed to see that the TiVo will not allow me to bridge Wireless to MoCa, only Ethernet to MoCa. This makes no sense. I understand the need for MoCa to support streaming between the Mini and Roamio. But wireless is more than adequate to handle the bridge between MoCa and the Internet. It's got plenty of download bandwidth to handle guide downloads, remote programming, and even Netflix or other streaming. And for outbound TiVo streaming, whenever you enable that, outbound traffic speed of the cable or DSL modem will typically be the limiting factor.

As it turns out, I happen to have a Wi-Fi gaming adapter around that I can use to "trick" the TiVo into thinking it's on ethernet. But I should not need to do this. I sent them an email about this, I hope they fix this issue.

HD DVR Series 3 (2) One w'Lifetime

TiVoCommunity Forum Recent Threads - Tue, 10/15/2013 - 23:04
have two Tivo Series 3 HD DVRs, model TCD 652160, with 2 tuners each for sale.

You can record 2 shows at once and watch another recorded show.

The one I use is active and has the lifetime service. That's a $500.00 cost by itself. You can use it as is or call and have it transferred to your name. You can record, view and play anything you receive over the air AND from cable or satellite. Replace your cable or satellite DVR and eliminate your rental fees.

The other DVR is new and never been activated. I bought it so if the power supply ever went out on my lifetime one I could switch out power supplies.

The one I'm using with the lifetime service has a 1tb hard drive for 142 HD hours or 1241 SD hours of recording time. I am also including the original Hard Drive. The backup DVR has never been activated or opened.

I'm also including three remote controls.

1tb WD Green HDD value: $75.00
Replacement power supply value: $100.00
Tivo HD DVR w/Lifetime value: $350.00

Total value for the two HD DVR's: $525.00

If it were to go bad there are lots of Internet sites with instructions on how to replace a power supply.

I've already provided all the knowledge and labor by replacing the original HDD with a bigger 1tb HDD.

$500.00 and well worth it.

Please email me at rushunter@webmail.us if you have any questions. Thanks.

Atlantic Broadband To Roll With TiVo’s Roamio DVR

Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. - "Eye Spy" - 10/15/13

Definitely the best episode since the pilot. A nice blend of action, humor and character development... all without the clunky references to the movies. This is more like what I want and expect from this show.

Mini and timeout plus restart?

TiVoCommunity Forum Recent Threads - Tue, 10/15/2013 - 19:52
Ok....I accidentally dropped my older TiVo HD box in my bedroom and broke the power cord connector...ugh. I had the Mini on hand which I was going to use in my 'office' or 2nd bedroom. But the TV I had in that room died and I had no need for the mini at the moment until my HD TiVo was killed by my mishap.

I hooked up the mini and was thrilled to have it here to rescue me. I have the XL 4 in the living room, and with a call to TiVo to activate my lifetime, set up was done and I was on my way.

So I noticed the mini wasn't responding when I turned on the TV. I had the blue Samsung screensaver as if nothing was connected to the HDMI input. I unplugged and replugged the mini, and it did the 'Welcome, powering up' and 'Almost there, just a few more minutes'. Then I would get the TiVo main menu and I could now watch TV. I assumed this was not normal, but what did I know

I did notice that if the TV remains on, then the mini screensaver stays on and I can access live TV without waiting. But if the TV is off, then the mini goes to sleep and I have to wait several minutes to watch TV.

I called TiVo support a few times. I explained exactly what was happening and the support rep decided to replace the mini. I got the replacement mini and same thing was happening. I did notice when I turned on the TV, if I hit the 'Live TV' button, the mini would 'wake up' and again go through the Welcome....Almost there, set up. So I didn't have to unplug it, but still....

I called support again and the rep discovered that the mini was supposed to shut down as a power saver thing

What the heck? I can't just turn on my TV and watch it? i have to wait and babysit the mini until it's ready to go?

I think it should be an option on if I want the mini to take a break when my TV is turned off. Or is it an option?

I love the concept of the mini, and it's a great idea for a TV that rarely gets used, but I don't like that I have to wait for it to power up each time I turn on the TV.

I think I may just let TiVo replace my broken unit with a Premier for $349

Signal Disappearing?

TiVoCommunity Forum Recent Threads - Tue, 10/15/2013 - 18:46
This happened for the first time two days ago and it's since happened three times. Turn on AV receiver and TV (Tivo stays on, obviously) and see a blank screen.

Two different scenarios:

1. Blank screen, no signal on either cable or antenna (I have both) and no response from remote. No remote signal acknowledged by Tivo (yellow light).

2. Blank screen, no signal on either cable or antenna and remote responds. Can go to recorded shows and playback but going back to live cable or antenna yields nothing.

3. Witnessed the unit reboot on its own during recording last night.

Replaced the HD several months ago with no problems. A couple of the capacitors show bulging but I've not experience spontaneous reboots since the HD was replaced.

Advice is greatly appreciated and will be rewarded with faint-to-strong praise if it turns out to be valuable. Will not slag anyone venturing a guess that doesn't help. :D

Thanks in advance,

Adding new channels and CableCard

TiVoCommunity Forum Recent Threads - Tue, 10/15/2013 - 18:32
If a cable provider adds a channel, say FXX, do you have to do anything to get it or should it just show up? I know you'd need to add it to your guide, but for whatever reason I TiVo won't tune FXX for me and I'm not sure why. I have a tuning adapter too if that matters.

EDIT: Time Warner Cable

Is there a market for TiVo Series 1's?

TiVoCommunity Forum Recent Threads - Tue, 10/15/2013 - 17:09
I have 2 working Series 1 TiVo's that I am finally retiring. Is there still a market for these workhorses?

Both have extra HD brackets. One comes with an internal network adapter.

If needed I could throw in the digital settop boxes that I have them controlling for digital OTA tv tuning.

They have given me many years of great service and I would love it if they could be of use to someone.

Fall update details from Dave Z!

Quote: Fear not, TiVo Premiere owners… as our platform hasn’t yet been abandoned. And, within the next few weeks, the Fall Update will begin rolling out — bringing a variety of bug fixes, a far more usable Netflix app, Wishlists in HD, and dynamic tuner allocation for a better TiVo Mini and Stream experience. Unfortunately, the new slightly tweaked TiVo UI (colors, fonts) won’t be available until 2014.

To move to the front of the Fall Update line, simply provide your TiVo Service Number here. Having recently taken the Roamio plunge, I registered my interest and plan to flip my Lifetimed TiVo Premiere XL4/Elite in short order. Stream experience? How does DTA work with the stream? Unless we are going to get rid of the behavior of initiating a recording in order to watch live tv. (The Roamio works exactly like the stand alone stream)

X-Files - Best 'stand-alone" episodes?

TiVoCommunity Forum Recent Threads - Tue, 10/15/2013 - 14:53
I never watched this show during its original run on Fox, but with Amazon Prime I now have all the episodes available for streaming. I've been picking and choosing different episodes and prefer the ones without a continuing storyline. I watched one last night with Duane Barry and at the end of that I got the dreaded "To be continued..." So I watched the one after that but that wasn't the end either.

So what are some favorite stand-alones? I liked the one where the guy sucked the fat out of overweight women. Another was about a serial killer who liked to cut hair and fingernails off his victims.

Your favorite new show - Fall 2013

I don't think we have a thread for this yet.

So - what are we thinking? Honestly, there isn't too much new stuff that is really exciting me. If I had to pick one show right now, it would be The Blacklist. I loves me some James Spader.

I am waiting to see how good Reign will be - it is right up my alley (I love Period Dramas), and has gotten good buzz.

Right now there is nothing new that I "must see" right away (that is usually an indicator for me that I really like something).

I am much more involved in returning shows that I like at this point.

Anyone loving anything new?

TiVo with Time Warner cable?

TiVoCommunity Forum Recent Threads - Tue, 10/15/2013 - 13:08
Hi Guys.

Its been a long time since Ive been here...I moved to the country about 4 years ago, and got a DirecTV HD Tivo. I am now moving back to the city and Time Warner is my cable provider. They want to charge $15 per month for their HD DVR. I saw series 4 "lifetime" TiVo HD DVRs that claim they are cable compatible.

I have read many stickys and used the search function, but Im still not clear on how this works, and what actual equipment do I need. I just confused.

Can someone explain what I need to get to have a functioning HD DVR on cable?

Tivo Remote & Speakercraft CS3

TiVoCommunity Forum Recent Threads - Tue, 10/15/2013 - 12:37
I just got a SpeakerCraft CS3 sound bar, and it's great except that the remote that comes with it is awful. I would like to be able to change volume using my Tivo remote, but there's no code listing for Speakercraft. Does anyone know what code to enter to get the volume buttons to work with a SpeakerCraft CS3?

"Game on, b*tch"?

I did like the wedding gift subplot, and the scene where Barney tells off his mother and brother were funny. But the end? Terrible.

Number 1, are you dropping heat in here. Ok. Number 2..... :)

Disappointing TIVO Tech Support and attitude

TiVoCommunity Forum Recent Threads - Tue, 10/15/2013 - 10:11
I have to say I am very very disappointed with the TIVO support and advice I was givens his week.

As a result of incorrect initial advice from clearly inexperienced Level 1 support, my TIVO HD is now stuck in a "guided setup" mode which always leads to the S03 error. I also followed subsequent advice from more experienced support people and did everything including the kickstart 57. But by then it was too late.

What really disappoints me (I have been a satisfied TIVO customer for 15 plus years) is that nobody at the company seems to feel any obligation to make any concessions towards fixing the situation. The only thing that makes sense to me now is for me to upgrade to the latest TIVO Roamio and move put this all behinds me (despite the fact that we have lost many hours of HD recordings). And, to my surprise TIVO is not willing to give me any credit or price considerations towards this! All they are willing to do is give me an exchange for an older model TiVo premiere at a price that is higher than I can purchase it on the internet.

Disappointing TiVo!:(

Can't find "Suggestions" to kill it...

TiVoCommunity Forum Recent Threads - Tue, 10/15/2013 - 09:06
Hello, I have the RCN Premier TIVO. Trying to familiarize with finding things. But I can't find that blessed "Suggestions" function so I can delete it! I find the thousands of suggestions but can't stop it at all. Also trying to delete the selections....I find you can delete only ONE at a time... :(

Also, does any of you get a Mute icon moving around over the printed names? I contacted the chat on TIVO and was told it's not a TIVO. I then went to my server, RCN, and they said it's not theirs...whose is it for God's sake??? I'd like to make that annoying thing stay put in one corner, otherwise, to delete it.

Thanks ever so much for any help! :)

Network Problem

TiVoCommunity Forum Recent Threads - Tue, 10/15/2013 - 08:41
I haven't seen this problem, so I thought I would ask. My series3 HD is hardwired to the same Router as my Computer. The Tivo will only see the Computer on occasion, I can't see any rhyme or reason for when it sees it and when it doesn't. My Laptop is wireless and the Tivo sees it all the time. I have rebooted everything one at a time and it seems if I reboot the main router where the cable comes into the house it will see the Tivo at least for a while. It will then disappear and come back on its own.
Any thoughts?
