I recently purchased "the latest" circa 2007 InstantCake upgrade package for my Tivo Series 3 from DVRupgrade.com. I read (going in) that a) there was NO PRODUCT SUPPORT of any kind available and b) NO REFUNDS. OK says I, but last time I tried it, it worked fine so likely with my computer experience, I can make it work. OOPS!!! That did not turn out to be so.
The program was designed for OLDER PCs where there were a) PATA drive ports and b) (apparently) just two SATA ports. None of my four PCs now meet that criteria. I tried it on three computers, two with multiple (6 and 8) SATA ports and on a 2009 HP laptop using a USB to SATA adapter. In none of these configurations could InstantCake identify and connect to the DESTINATION SATA port (or USB port) so as to be able to write the InstantCake Tivo package to the destination 1TB drive.
It was true! ABSOLUTELY ZERO support was available from DVRupgrade and no refund was available either! Let the buyer be AWARE!
Finally, in despairation, I went to this and other Tivo forums and found the program KNOPPIX at http://www.bumwine.com/tivo.html
and it worked beautifully. I did not need the InstantCake image, but just used the original Tivo Image from the original OEM drive from Tivo.
speaks of http://www.mfslive.org/winmfs/
which is supposedly even easier to use, but I did not try that one out.
I tried to publish this information on the DVRupgrade.com website, but they would not allow these comments on their website. I can understand why. It seems to me that DVRupgrade.com needs to have their InstantCake program updated to work with modern computers OR quit selling it.
Storm disabled network for week. After repair and several successful connect, download and process episodes (maybe) my Tivo HD still shows "no data" and to do list and season passes show "none scheduled" shows. How do I force refresh of "to do" d etc.?
Hi there, I have a TiVo Premiere and would like to share this box with multiple TVs in my house. I don't need another TiVo, just the ability to view and control the one I have from other rooms.
I recently did a survey for TiVo that included questions about such a device gauging interest. Is this type of device in development? When would it go on sale approximately? How much would they cost? I hope someone can at least confirm the development and time frame for release as I am trying to decide whether or not to buy a 3rd party device now or wait until an official accessory is announced by TiVo. Any advice would be most appreciated!
Got a THR-22 a couple of months ago to replace an ailing (and failing) HR10-250. I've noticed a different behavior on how shows are found and recorded using the Season Pass on the new THR-22.
The old behavior was that Season Pass would find a show no matter which channel it appeared on (for example, Law & Order on USA, cloo, and local NBC, either OTA or via satellite). On the new THR-22 I find I have to set up separate season passes for the same show on each channel.
What's peculiar is that if you search for a show then ALL shows will appear on the upcoming episodes list (as one would expect). But, if you pick one and create a Season pass, then only future shows on the channel you happen to have selected will record -- all others will be ignored.
I consider this to be an introduced software bug, and the new behavior is definitely not what I want or expected.
Anyone else seeing the same behavior or have a solution for this?
The finale and After The Final Rose ep are on Sunday instead of Monday. I didn't even realize until I stumbled across a commercial today. It's also mentioned at http://abc.go.com/shows/the-bachelorette/
Fortunately, it was near the top of my SPM and I had no conflicts w/anything else.
I have a Tivo Series 3 that I control over IP, on my home wifi network, and it works great.
I am thinking of buying a used Tivo (HD or Series 3) for my bedroom, to use as a tuner (with a CableCard, without a Tivo subscription) for my bedroom TV - much less expensive than renting a set top box from RCN.
Does anyone know if I can connect an unsubscribed Tivo to my wifi network, and control it over IP?
I searched through this forum but could not find anything that would help me.
I have a Tivo Premiere. There are some video files that I would like to transfer onto it and play.
I just started playing around with the video editing software called "VirtualDub." I have loaded all of the main plug ins for it that I could find in order to beef up its capabilities.
Some of the video files on my computer will not play in my Premiere(such as mkv files). So I used VirtualDub to convert these mkv files(and a few other things) into avi files.
At first, the output file sizes were GIGANTIC. VirtualDub would take something that was approximately 52MB in size and covert it into an avi output file of 1.5 gig.
I adjusted the setting in VirtualDub to "Direct Stream Copy" and that successfully reduced the output file size down to a much smaller size. These output files do play fine in my computer video players(MPCHC, VLC, etc.)
When I use Tivo Desktop to transfer these avi files onto the Tivo Premiere, it DOES play them. However, there is a TON of jitter. Severe jitter.
Any thoughts, ideas, suggestions on how to correct this?
p.s., in case it makes any difference, here are my PC system specs
windows 7 pro 64 bit
8 gigs of DDR2 ram
Dell - 2.8 Ghz Dual core processor
really good video card(Nvidia 440, or something)
also..... I am using the 32 bit version of VirtualDub
Premiere enters Standby Automatically after 18 hours of no "direct" activity, I was still accessing the Premiere via the Elite using MRS.
I move a Premiere to a bedroom where it is not currently being used daily. After the first day I noticed it was in Standby Mode. I assumed someone set it. 2nd day it was in Standby again, this time I asked if anyone had set it, no one had. So last night at midnight I last accessed it directly, tonight at 6pm it was in Standby again.
Since I have never seen this before, and cannot find a posting, can anyone verify that this is now normal?
In the past on the bottom of my screen, it showed the current time and how much time of the recorded show had elapsed. It does not any more. I can not figure out what I did. Can someone suggest how I can get this info back? Thank you.
Can someone explain to me in plain English why TiVo can not build a box with a tuning adapter built into the TiVo?
Anyone watching? :)
First of all-Gunnar and Chris need to get a room! ;):D
So who is this season's COO-COO-Bananas? Kooan seems too obvious-I bet he's a fake-he is probably a classically trained actor and this is all for show! :p
I am voting for Buffi-she is COO COO Bananas for sure!
Ven and Christopher are my early favorites-some are saying Christopher is a one-trick pony a la Michael in Mondo & Gretchen's season, but I disagree, I think he has real talent, but he is full of himself, and freaks out under pressure. He needs to relax and get real.
I thought Lantie should have gone home, her outfits (both of them) were horrible-Beatrice's weren't that bad, boring, yes, but not horrible and ugly.
What do others think?
The 90s – this was the era of television that was simultaneously so cheesy, so controversial, and so groundbreaking. It is an era of TV that will live on forever in our hearts. From sitcom episodes that involved main characters rebeling against some type of authority, tamagotchis, “Harold and Maude” like relationships, cartoons with innocent political undertones, and most of all, a kid that had his head shaped like a football whose couch came out of his wall with the push of a button, this decade had it all. I was disappointed to see Donna go. I didn't like the story line that she destroyed the memo after Mike told her "tell Harvey, or I will".
Oh well, I can hope she comes back in later episodes, right? :)
Recently I dug up my TiVo Series 2 (not the Dual Tuner model, its the one that's silver with a somewhat cream-colored front) with a Lifetime subscription.
I had been using Comcast before I switched. It was working fine, I could change the channel using the TiVo etc.
Since I dug it up I have switched to the DirecTV using the DirecTV HD box.
(To see what I'm talking about, enter "43946.gif" into google and should see the receiver)
I did a re-setup so that I could tell it the correct information. There's one minor problem. The Directv HD reciever doesn't have an IR port or a Serial port for me to hook up the additional IR sensors. I also don't happen to own either pair of the sensors anymore.
Is there anyway to make my TiVo change the channel? I currently have the TiVo plugged into the S-Video port of my TV and the input from my cable box is through composite.
EDIT: Any reason why my Wireless TiVo adapter could cook an egg? Its getting really hot.
It was only a matter of time. Danny, the 'car guy' that Pawn Stars calls for his expert opinions on cars and motorcycles is getting his own show.
Danny The Count Koker is getting his own vehicle.
History has ordered Counting Cars, centered on Koker, the famous Las Vegas car flipper who has turned up on the networks top-rated Pawn Stars on multiple occasions.
will premiere Monday, August 13 before moving into its regularly scheduled Tuesday 10 pm slot the following night.
I replaced my original WD MYDVR Expander (the 500 gig) when it died a couple of years ago with a newer 1 TB model. Damn those lost recordings... Anyway, I assume it's not safe to just chuck it or recycle it, since my TiVo account numbers might be on there somehow. Is there a way to safely get rid of this thing without any security risk?
I have a TIVO HD and use Verizon FIOS.
I have just added a package of channels and rather than add manually (I may well miss some channels) I want to automaticlly have the TIVO do it. Seems the only way is to do a full Setup AGAIN!
Question: If I go this way will I lose or be able to retain all my existing recordings and legacy lists of programs I already record?
Comcast Xfinity and Tivo still don't work with Streampix in the San Francisco are. My TiVo premiere elite goes through all the steps to make a Streampix selection. The final thumbs up to proceed returns error 36895 "sunscription needed. I do have a automaic subscription. Several days and Comcast techs later no solution. The last tech had done TiVo installs for Comcast. His conclusion after reprogramming my M-card was that it doesn't work on the TiVo premiere yet. I hope TiVo and comcast are working on this. The tech said if enough users complain maybe Comcast will bump the priority up.
On the TiVo central page I have a message: Please Activate Service, Go to UNKNOWN and enter your TiVo service number to activate this UNKNOWN. THe UNKNOWN will not work without an active service subscription.
How to I go to UNKNOWN???
I am getting rid of my $189.00 comcast bundle and going with just internet.
I have a premiere w/lifetime and am hoping I can get by with just netflix and Hulu plus for tv viewing. The new provider is wireless and I will have to get a wireless adapter for my Tivo.
Here are my questions-
1) Do I really have to get the Tivo N adapter or is there a generic brand?
2) We also have a Wii(not used much) and heard you can watch netflix over it, is this true and how difficult is it?
3) Am I making this much harder than it needs to be? Is there an easier alternative out there?
I have been a comcast with Tivo gal for many years and have gotten comfortable in how it has always been. Change is scary but doable. Thanks for any advice you can give me.
