I am completely new to the world of ripping videos for streaming over the network and need some help. I have had TiVos for a while (currently have 3 Premiers and 2 Mini's but have a new Roamio and another Mini on the way) but I have recently decided to start using the DLNA capability of my Netgear ReadyNAS Ultra 6 to store ripped copies of movies I own for streaming to the Premiers. I purchased a copy of Pavtube Blu-ray Ripper for ripping the movies and it seems like a very capable piece of software but the problem I need help with is...I have no idea which format I should rip the movies to that will allow them to be played on both Premiers and Windows 8 devices. My first try was MPEG-4 HD Video (mp4). The movie worked great on my Windows 8 devices but the TiVo Premier would not see it on the NAS. I had placed it on the NAS in a folder with the movie's name. The Premier saw the folder but did not see the movie in the folder (said there were 0 items in the folder).
Just launched Netflix on the mini and it's been updated to the new interface!
Well, no profiles still, but still awesome to see such rapid progress with things :)
Long time TiVo owner here. Current Premiere XL playback via
IOS app has been working for a while.
Recently - last month or so - IOS in-home playback has started to freeze in the last minute of the recording. Consistent across multiple devices. Can skip ahead and back, but if left to simply play, playback will pause. Sometimes you have to close out of the recording via the done button and restart playback. At that point the playback usually resumes from the start of the recording.
All iOS devices are IOS7.
Anyone else seeing this?
Thanks in advance.
I know some people have the new slide pro in their hands already and I was wondering if they have the capability to control both a roamio and a mini from one remote. I have looked on Tivo's website and cannot really find in-depth details about its capabilities.
Zatz scooping again!
As we gear up for 2014, TiVos plans have begun to crystalize. First, based on pre-show outreach from Olson, it appears Android streaming is a lock for a January CES announcement
I just ordered a Roamio which I will use to replace my Premier.
Anyone know how to minimize the hassle of getting Comcast to switch my cable card to the new Roamio when it arrives?
Should I call the cable card number before moving the card, or can I move it, then call Comcast?
Any list of data I'll need to gather before I call to minimize the time on the phone?
(I make this move because the Premier really did start working correctly when Comcast pushed the new firmware, so I have slightly greater confidence that a Roamio will work, and I really like the idea of the user interface being faster).
My wireless N adaptor would no longer connect after the upgrade... I reset the adaptor and tried to log into it at 192.168.10.1... but it's not home. Won't connect via WiFi Protected setup either. Appears to be bricked.
Has anyone else experienced this?
Just ordered my Roamio Pro. looking to see if it is a good idea to get a Moca adapter for my router. My setup is one other TV with a premier box. I plan to do a lot of streaming/dowloading to iPad/iphone while off site.
Thanks in advance for the advice!

i've seen some ideas with series 2&3 but not 4's.
If your tivo breaks down, and they replace it for you.. Will TIVO allow the lifetime to continue on the replacement unit?
I've used the Amazon app on Tivo several times before but when I tried to purchase a show from my THD tonight, I got an error message saying I needed to set up a digital payment method. I was directed to the Amazon website and had to reselect my credit card info and PIN number. Anyone else see this?
I have an XL4 and a 4 tuner Premiere 4. All has been fine and I do not have the update yet.
Last night we wanted to watch a show on the XL4, on the other Premiere and I would get freezes, and no audio. I would back it up, and the sound would return for a few momoents. This morning I went to the Source...XL4, and the shows we tried were OK.
Network, hard wired, is fine and this never happened before. Should I reboot? Just wonder why this would happen all of a sudden?
I get an undending Connecting to Server.
Anybody watch this?
The show uses modern-day forensics to examine the shooting of JFK, including the "single bullet" theory and the possibility of a grassy knoll shot.
The Warren Commission's conclusions are shown to be consistent with the evidence. Very interesting to see the use of modern techniques to examine the various theories.
I don't recall them evaluating the firing rate issue other than to mention it and then to say that the analysis is consistent with all shots coming from the book depository location.
Science, bitch! :D
Has anybody figured out the sequence for entering Kickstart codes on the Roamio Pro yet?
I don't need the codes yet, but my front panel power light quit working in less than 2 weeks and I'm trying to figure out if it could be a problem in the future.
Anyone have any constructive comments, please?
Amazon app looks so 1997. When I saw the Amazon app on my PS3, I couldn't believe it was the same provider.
I have the Surface Pro 2. I installed the Tivo Desktop Plus software on my device. When I was at home, I transfered a show from my tivo to my home computer (.tivo format), then transfered that file to a USB drive and then placed that file onto my Surface Pro 2. When I try to play the file with windows media player, or VLC, it gives me an error and wont play it. When I try playing the video through the Desktop Plus software, it gives me same error.
Anyone have any suggestions to play this file? When I try to convert the file, it wont let me. When I right click on the file, it will only let me play or delete the file. The "convert" option is greyed out. I have uninstalled the software and re-installed it as well. Same results.
Thanks for any help or suggestions,
So, I purchased a Tivo Series 2 back in 2004 and bought a lifetime subscription about a year after that. I used the device religiously until sometime in 2010, and long story short, left the device at my parents' house and moved on to HDTVs and HD Cable Company DVRs.
Fast forward to this week. I got my Series 2 back, plugged it in, and it still worked. I ran it through guided setup and connected to the Tivo Server and downloaded all the guide stuff.
So I started looking around to see what I could do with this device at this point, and what I keep coming around to is that the best value for an old Tivo like the Series 2 on a lifetime sub is that it makes you eligible for multi-service discounts on newer Tivo devices. I've even seen some places where depending on when you bought in, you might be able to be grandfathered in at a 6.95 per month MSD (is this accurate?)
So here's my question -- as long as my Series 2 works and connects to the Tivo server, could I go out and buy a couple Tivo Premieres on eBay and and activate them at a cheaper rate (possibly 6.95?? Also, would they offer me a reduced lifetime option?)
Messing around with the old Series 2 really rekindled my interest in Tivo and reminded me how terrible the Comcast DVRs are.
No one wants to comment?
I had thought this episode was going to end with "Get Carter" but it ended with "Get the man in the suit" instead.
It's a very good kickoff to the mid season finale, starting off as a good Carter piece as you see her moving everyone in place like chess pieces, seeing how all her actions since Beecher's death add up and ending with every crooked cop and criminal in the city gunning for Reese.
Lionel, Lionel, Lionel, you really fell for "Give me your keys and go get your vest"?
And best line of the night?
"Wait, that's my grenade launcher?"
Great episode all around and I look forward to seeing Reese's next move.
If the roamio is watching a channel live, and a mini in a separate room is watching THE SAME channel (also live), does the roamio use two tuners or just one?
