Since all previous versions of this question are more than 2 years old, I'm hoping that there has been some technology improvement on the simple answer of "no".
Can I use the TiVo Stream to stream content (not transfer) to my MacBook Pro laptop? I just want to watch some shows while I'm working. Will I have to use my iPad? It seems crazy that I can stream to my iPad but not to my laptop.
Tivo Premiere XL4
MacBook Pro (OS X 10.6.8)
As you can see from my signature I have a VERY old DirecTivo as my main DVR in my living room. I have a newer one in the guest bedroom. Regardless of the reasons for this setup my DSR6000 has become very stubborn about recording new shows. In addition, shows that we used to record regularly have stopped recording.
I've checked, but will be happy to check and report again, my signal strength and tuners. I think I might be at a point...stop laughing...to upgrade my gear. In fact, I called DTV on Thursday thinking that they might sweeten the deal for me to upgrade to HD but no dice. Maybe there is a secret code I have to give them or something. Just kidding.
Why would my DVR stop recording shows and what is the secret to getting a good deal on an upgrade? I held out for years waiting for Tivo and DTV to get back together again for the new DirectTivo but it may not have been worth the wait right?
Need: To have the minimum of a dumb dvr that can decode and pass to a monitor HD OTA signals. Basically using it as a OTA tuner.
Want: Ability to record anything would be nice, having the 30 minute buffer would be neat, ability to set time and channel to record would be great.
Situation: Think boat anchored in a bay of a large city or a nasty jail cell in a third world country. NO access to internet or phone connection, not even access to a cell phone, essentially NO way to communicate with the outside world other than listening to the OTA signals they send out, lifetime subscription NOT available.
I can take the TIVO unit to a land connection for initial guided setup, but after that, it will never be able to connect again.
With the needs, wants and situation given, will a Tivo S3, HD/XL or Premier/XL be able provide? Any other caveats I may be over looking? If there is something cheaper than a Tivo, that accommodates the given parameters, please shout out. I can find a Tivo on Amazon.com referbed or used for under $100, new less than $250. It just seams most other capable options are in excess of $400.
Just upgraded to the XL4 this Christmas and this is my only issue.
If I try to delete a group in My Shows with the clear key I will get the confirmation prompt. Once I select Delete Now I'll get the X next to group name. If I do nothing the X will stay there indefinitely. If I exit My Shows when I return the folder icon is next to the group I tried to delete and all the shows are still there. I can open the group and delete the shows individually with the clear key, but I want my group delete back!
I did a reboot and it fixed it temporarily, but by the next morning, the problem has reemerged. Suggestions?
Series 3, HD & Premier: OTA only;
There doesn't seem to be a "add channel" option where one can add OTA channels that were not in the initial scan. As in from different directions or with 'on the cliff' stations at a time where reception has dropped and the signal isn't strong enough for a ID. Doing another scan wipes out the channel table, so that puts you back to were you started. I find it hard to believe as advanced as this is, this isn't possible.
Will just entering the physical channel number work so it would get added to the channel list? The only search results I found were regarding CATV.
Anyone have a suggestion on the best tool for modifying the sometime (or most time) messed up meta tags that kmttg gets from TiVo?
Looking for something that uses what kmttg produces to find a 'best' match from the web, and populates them.
I have been using iDentify which is good, but still struggle with cleaning them up so that they can be fully cleaned up.
For reasons unknown, Tivo suggestions has started recording "infomercials" occasionally, such as in the middle of the night and\or early morning. And its for products I would never buy, such as women's beauty\healthcare products.
What is strange about recording infomercials is that I truly hate them. I never watched or record them, and I give then three thumbs down when I stumble on them. I even have deselected all shopping channels.
I have been using Tivo's since 1999 and this has never happened until recently. I am hoping that Tivo has not made deals with infomercials media companies to use Tivo suggestions as a method to, more-or-less, download infomercials to Tivo units when there is no recording conflicts.
Note: I am not referring to when Tivo records its promo channel\programming, which is a series of short promos\ads, and does not appear in under Tivo Suggestions.
I see this has been posted three to five years ago. It's worth mentioning again.
I went to watch the Cotton Bowl this a.m., and it was not in my "My Shows" on my Tivo Elite. I went to history and it said:
"This show was not recorded because the Tivo Box is not authorized for this channel, the program was not purchased, or the program was not available
in your area".
434 is Fox HD, and it is paid for in my triple play from Comcast.
Did anyone else have this problem last night?
I have to wait till 2:00 today for the replay.

so I was going through the steps to upgrade the HD, but i select the tivo as the destination drive, it started to copy but obviously ran out of space.
restarted and did it on the correct drive. I'm at a friends so I don't have the tivo with me. Just wanted to know if I messed up here or if I'll be ok.
Cox is in a dispute with CBS and we have lost our feed for CBS since Jan 1. No telling when it will be back. This is the most recent of my problems with Cox. They use switch digital which requires a tuning adapter, my channels will freeze at least 1-2 times a week. Cox has been out to check it, I've called tivo. No one can pinpoint or solve the problem. I bought the 4 tuner, the freezing was even worse so I returned it. Right now I have an HD and a premier. I love the premier. I love tivo, but when I started looking at DTV and the genie looks good, but is it as user friendly? Has anyone had any experience with both that can give me an idea of pros and cons? From what I read on the threads the DTV tivo isn't so great?
Discuss your favorite/interesting eps here.
I noticed there's marathon of How It's Made: Remix eps on 1/5/13, starting at 6 am Pacific.
Just bought a new 320gb Premiere on clearance from Tivo for $60. Ordered FIOS along with a cable card for my box. I was able to select cablecard from the drop down menu for equipment selection. It did not state if its a M card or single type. Crossing fingers here.
I ordered 320gb with lifetime for $559
Should I call and add another cablecard for a second channel option or wait to see if they send a M-card that will tune two channels first?
'Hawaii Five-0' To Let Viewers Choose Episode Ending With Real-Time Vote
'Hawaii Five-0' will let viewers choose the culprit and the episode ending with a real-time vote when it returns on January 14.
For the first time in TV history, fans will be able to vote on the CBS website or Twitter during both East and West Coast broadcasts to select their own ending.
The episode will see the mystery begin when the team must investigate the death of an O'ahu State University professor. His boss, his teaching assistant and a student who he busted for cheating are all viable suspects.
To vote, after each of the suspect's motives is revealed, viewers can vote to select either #theBoss, #theTA or #theStudent as the culprit, any of whom could have committed the crime. The votes will be tallied immediately and the most popular ending will make it to the broadcast.
"I've always felt the most fun aspect of watching a mystery is trying to figure out 'whodunit,'" says Executive Producer Peter Lenkov. "Now the Hawaii Five-0 viewers will actually get the chance to tell us who they think committed the crime and we will listen. I love that our dedicated and attentive fans will actually play a part in resolving our story."
Separate voting will occur for East/Central and Pacific broadcasts but all three endings will be available after the airing on the CBS website. 'Hawaii Five-0' airs at 10 PM on Mondays nights.

I need to replace my IDE series 2 drive (very noisey) and I just got a 250g sata drive and adapter, I have replaced my drive once before (a long while ago) and still have the backup, my issue is using mfs tools it is set up for ide as is my computer. how can I get the image to the sata drive would that be my best route? my current drive is still working if there were a way to copy it or even just start fresh
The amount of used recording space continues to increase after shows are deleted and even after removing them from the deleted shows folder. It eventually thinks my disk is full an I have to reboot the iVo. This, so far has fixed it. it just seems strange.
Anything good in Britain I should download?
As the IT Crowd thread reminded me there is usually some great shows I am missing.
I usually prefer English or Australian comedies.
I am selling my TiVo S3 OMLED (TCD648250B) with Lifetime and 1TB internal hard drive.

The hard drive is very quiet, and I believe it's the WD WD10EVCS but I'd have to open the case to be sure.
The power supply was repaired by Weaknees last year, but otherwise I've had no issues with it.
I will accept payment by Paypal. PM if you're interested.
