Migrating from a Premiere to an Xl4

TiVoCommunity Forum Recent Threads - Sun, 08/18/2013 - 21:06
I just purchased an XL 4 as I wanted to set it up with the mini and stream.

Question - what is the easiest way to get the premiere shows I have to the new Xl4? Can I copy them over or can I possibly switch the drives out, as the premier I have is a 2 TB drive? I know I can easily move the season passes over.

Thanks for the help and my apologies as I am sure thsi has been posted but google\search was not helpful.

I have a TWC installed coax amp. Can the coax cable that the power feeds into be split and used as a cable tv source?

Didn't you think - like we were supposed ta - that The Swede was (is?) going to ax murder the family?

Where did he get the fancy clothes? Stole them from another victim?

Anybody else notice that Mrs. Toole's chin tattoo can spell MILF?

Transferring from RCN

TiVoCommunity Forum Recent Threads - Sun, 08/18/2013 - 19:52
I'm currently using an RCN Tivo Premiere, dual tuner. I also have the WD Tivo Extender connected.

I may be moving soon, and will lose RCN. Question is this: is it possible to transfer shows off the RCN Tivo to a newly purchased Tivo Premiere?

Using a Tivo Wireless N adaptor on a PC

TiVoCommunity Forum Recent Threads - Sun, 08/18/2013 - 19:11
I have an extra Tivo wireless n adaptor - and a PC with no wifi. Can I use the Tivo adaptor on my Windows Vista PC?

The wifi network is password protected. Where do I select the SSID and password when the adaptor only connects to the PC through its ethernet port?

Com Hem TiVo In The Wild

Zatz Not Funny! - Sun, 08/18/2013 - 07:27

Unlike the secrecy surrounding a typical American TiVo beta, Swedish cable provider Com Hem has just launched a 4 week initiative that is equal parts field trial and marketing campaign to simultaneously work out the kinks as they build buzz ahead of a fall launch. And, now that the 20 golden ticket winners have received their [...]

NimbleTV Returns for DISH Subscribers

Zatz Not Funny! - Thu, 08/15/2013 - 09:39

NimbleTV is back in business. DISH Network cut off the streaming video service last month with a statement saying the company wasn’t an authorized Dish retailer. Now, FTABlog reports that customers in NimbleTV’s New York pilot market are slowly getting service back. One of several TV Everywhere services on the market, NimbleTV offers its own [...]

WDTV Play “SlingCatcher” On Sale For $50.

Zatz Not Funny! - Wed, 08/14/2013 - 18:09

We quite liked the WDTV Play when we reviewed it back in February. The streamer is a step (or three) slower than the Roku and with far fewer apps, but brings several nifty tricks of its own including a fresh, customizable UI with Android-esque widgets. After receiving Sling’s monthly email blast, featuring promotional WDTV Play [...]

CBS Blackout Should Ignite Free TV Debate

Zatz Not Funny! - Wed, 08/14/2013 - 10:40

The retransmission fight between CBS and Time Warner cable shows no sign of abating, but it is triggering some interesting discussions over how consumers and regulators should handle the standoff. Dave suggests that Time Warner subscribers pick up a Mohu Leaf antenna to amplify over-the-air CBS signals while cable access is cut off. On the [...]

Breaking Bad

TiVo Blog - Tue, 08/13/2013 - 12:24
It was the beginning of the end. On Sunday night, AMC’s Breaking Bad returned for the second half of the fifth and final season, and it brought the chills and excitement that we have grown to expect from Vince Gilligan’s Emmy award-winning show. Fans are rampant with theories about how the final episodes will play out after the premiere. It’s clear that Walter White is hardly finished with his bad side. This episode opening showed a flash-forward of his return to his now-iconic home to retrieve Continue Reading

Spurned TWC Customers Pick Up Antennas For CBS OTA

Zatz Not Funny! - Mon, 08/12/2013 - 13:25

As the Time Warner Cable CBS retransmission spat drags on, impacted cable subscribers (or is that former subscribers?) have resorted to HDTV antennas and free OTA broadcasts, if RadioShack’s surge in sales is any indication. And, should you find yourself in a similar situation, let me recommend the amazing Mohu Leaf (~$40). We tend to shy [...]

TiVo Mini Now Streaming Netflix; Amazon Next

Zatz Not Funny! - Sat, 08/10/2013 - 18:41

While I’ve been quite satisfied with my TiVo Mini as a DVR extender, it shipped crippled in terms of third-party streaming apps. And, after 6 months with no movement, I picked up another Roku today. Perhaps ironically, Sam Biller just discovered TiVo has (accidentally?) published Netflix and Amazon Instant icons to our Minis. Netflix appears to be [...]

When the curtain comes down, what will Breaking Bad fans watch next?

TiVo Blog - Fri, 08/09/2013 - 16:47
Like other fans of AMC’s Breaking Bad, the folks here at TRA are waiting in painstaking anticipation to see what devilish plots Walter White has in store for his Car Wash and “other” business in the final 8 episodes beginning on Sunday, August 11th. But soon enough, the Emmy winning series that put Albuquerque on the map as the home of Heisenberg will meet its final end. So what will Breaking Bad fans be left to binge view next? TRA has some big data driven suggestions that will help to comfort Mr. Continue Reading

Error installing tivo Desktop 2.8.3

TiVoCommunity Forum Recent Threads - Thu, 08/08/2013 - 12:55
I had a Win XP Netbook and successfully been using the free edition of Tivo Desktop with no problems. I just lost that notebook hard drive and bought a newer netbook with Win 7 Professional.

When ever I try and install using the Tivo Desktop Installer, I get error "Error opening installation log file. Verify that the specified log file location exists and is writqble." I cannot get past this.

I found on Microsoft webssite that it loses the location where to write log file and thinks \windows\system32 if the file. Their work around is to close Explorer and restart it. I tried running the installer program from Desktop and from within Explorer with no luck. Not sure what problem is. This is on a brand new Win 7 computer and the Desktop installer I think is Win 7 compatable. Has anyone else had this?

Bachelorette Finale: All the Right Reasons

TiVo Blog - Thu, 08/08/2013 - 11:41
After weeks of requisite crying, gushy poetry and unexpected goodbyes, it’s hard to believe this season’s Bachelorette began in the most unexpected of ways: with an original music video featuring international rap sensation, Soulja Boy. Needless to say, Desiree’s quest for love has been a total bell curve. What started as a strong season (remember Jonathan “I take everything too far” Vollinger from night one?) quickly became one of the most underwhelming runs in show history. It’s unclear why fans weren’t as jazzed about Des and her suitors as they’ve Continue Reading
