Hello out there, I planning on buying a Roamio Pro and 4 Mini's here in the Seattle WA area. After reading the posts about issues with cards and firmware updates in other parts of the country I wanted to ask if there are any known issues locally. I want it to work on all tuners at the get go.
I currently have three reg. HD's and one Series 3 HD all with lifetimes. They all work fine but Comcast rapes you with outlet and card fees. I think I can get a break even point in about 2-3 years cost wise after selling my current units.
Is anybody running this configuration up here in the corner of the USA?

I've been a fan of TiVo's hardware and UI for some time. Any time I switch providers, I find myself happy when I switch back to a TiVo unit. Although it's not a perfect experience, I have always felt like everything "feels" right and just makes sense.
On the other hand, I have nothing but disgust and hatred for the experience of trying to interact with the Tivo.com website to or the Tivo app to do basic DVR tasks. Why are these so bad?
Tivo.com is unbelievably sluggish and strange. The website just crawls no matter what I do or where I do it from (home, work). Searches often don't find programs. The grid is a bit better lately (it used to be, by far, the worst implementation of a TV grid I have ever seen), but generally behaves oddly and seems to be possessed by a spirit that does the opposite of what I want half the time. Sports programs are often mysteriously absent from the grid and search results even though they appear in both on my actual Tivo.
The Tivo app would seem to be better, except that literally nothing I have ever set to record from the app ever made its way to my Tivo in a timely fashion. It takes days to make it to my Tivo when it does make it, but usually it doesn't make it there at all. The command to record something just disappears into whatever time warp also has my socks -- even when I am on the same network as my TiVo. It is so bad that I deleted the app months ago and never regretted it. I'd rather use the website because, though it is an aggravating experience, at least my Tivo actually records things when I tell it to via the website.
What gives? Am I just incredibly unlucky, or is this the experience that everyone else has too?
Is there something I need to do to fix these problems? I have an S3 with lifetime service, if that matters.
Given recent price increases, I am thinking of jumping ship to a satellite provider again. I honestly expect that the experience would be as good or better now on a competing product. Maybe the day-to-day navigation on the unit won't be as good, but I seriously doubt any other company can get away with such an atrocious app or such poor website performance/experience.
I know this is a little OT, but I'm getting an iPad mostly for using the Roamio Stream and have never owned any Apple product to date. Note that my daughters have iDevices and at some point I had to have iTunes running on my laptop and just hated that software. I kind of view that software as the TiVo equivalent of TiVo Desktop which I also don't like. So my question for you iOS gurus is these days can you run iPad without needing iTunes? If iTunes is just for backup purposes then is iCloud (or whatever it's called) enough with the free space you get by default? To get videos and music onto the iPad I'm pretty sure there are apps that can do that that don't require iTunes right? So I just need something to back up the OS (not the apps, music, or videos) in case of catastrophic failure, so iCloud should be sufficient right?

I was looking at the Stream on my Roamio (http://<streamIP>:49152/sysinfo and randomly I was able to get an "Advanced" page to come up and found the bitrate set to 2240000, tried changing it but was unable to nor was I able to select the Override Bitrate see the (hopefully) attached image.
The number of posts of 'This channel is not authorized' errors seems to have slowed. Have these been resolved or has everyone just given up? I am having a Charter tech over today. Going to try to hook him up with the Tivo help line. Hope something jells.
Apparently, you can now order UFC pay per view events on Youtube. Has anyone tried doing this, then watching via the youtube app on Tivo?
I want to try it, but I'm worried I'll invite friends over and then see the dreaded "this content is not available on this platform" or some such.
I have a lot of comedies piling up on my TiVo, most of which were shows I added this year but haven't even started to watch. I already deleted some (Brooklyn Nine Nine and Dads) without watching because I was having conflicts with other shows. But I've got a pileup that I want to clear out.
Here are the comedies I currently watch and enjoy: Modern Family, Big Bang Theory, HIMYM, Mike & Molly (although it sounds like this season isn't off to a great start... haven't watched it yet), Suburgatory, Parks & Rec

OK, I'm probably asking a stupid question now that I'm about to become a Roamio Plus newbie...
During my various areas of research on the boards I occasionally come across posts were people talk about having two Roamio's for their home. If a Roamio Plus (like I'm planning to get) has 6 tuners, why would you need two of them, unless you plan on watching/recording more than 6 shows at once. Is is that simple?
I plan on a Roamio plus and 4 mini's? Would there be any reason for me to consider two Roamio's and 3 mini's? Straighten me out!
This one was particularly interesting as this is something I am really starting to worry about since I am almost 40. I have been using a 401K of some type since my early 20's but never really paced what I was supposed to be putting in. Now I am trying to make up for lost time.
The part I found the most interesting was dealing with the fact that we should not be investing in mutual funds but rather index funds. This is something I need to talk to my advisor about (I have new questions for him as well especially regarding fiduciary) and what is opinions on the matter are.
Anyone know if the priority update list for the Roamio works better than the one for the Premiere? I signed up for the update within about 2 hours of Margaret's tweet, but still don't have it. Interested to see if there is yet another advantage to the Roamio.
Setting up my new Roamio Pro last night - a familiar exercise going through guided setup and having the cablecard re-paired to the new device.
Got through multiple service connections and the software update, and all of a sudden I can't connect to mother TiVo. Would fail on "Getting Account Status" MoCa shows down in the Diagnostics. Error in Discovery Bar (C130?) Since it worked earlier and nothing changed, I figured a setting was 'stuck'. So I switched to Wifi, then back to MoCa and the Discovery bar filled in. Netflix worked, so I knew I had a good signal to the internet. I could pass the connection test, but continued to fail when forcing a connection.
Got on a chat with a TiVo rep after approx a 10 minute wait, who told me that there were some problems on their end. This morning I forced the connection, and all was A-OK, but figures it would happen when I was setting up.
I only use Tivo Desktop to pull programs from the DVR to the PC. I know I don't need all these services to run on my PC, but what are they each for and which one(s) do I need to use TD as mentioned? I used to have the applicable ones turned off, but then I turned them all on and now I don't remember former setup.
My TD version is 2.8 (circa 2009). (I almost updated it last year or so but there was talk of some "feature" in later versions that caused me not to... forget the details).
When I deployed my Premiere I called into Tivo and discussed the Premiere's OTA performance versus my TVs (Pana and Vizio). Support *grudgingly* said that the Premiere's tuners were not necessarily going to perform better than either TVs. Some background on set up: The antenna cable comes to the family room and is "splittered" to both the TV and the Premiere. I swapped cables and locations on the 2 way splitter and results were the same: TVs' tuners beat Premiere's OTA tuner.
I just picked up a Roamio, and hope for improvement in OTA tuning. My test plan is to record the same content on both Tivos at the same time sourced from the Premiere's best and worst channels. Then review.
1) Other than my eyeball analysis, is there a technical method to compare the effectiveness of the OTA tuners?
2) Anyone else have personal experience of the OTA performance of the Premiere and the Roamio?
My 3 yr old Tivo HDXL has lost the ability to connect to the internet. My network runs from a cable modem, through an Apple airport extreme router, then a 10/100 switch, and finally by cable from the switch to the ethernet port on my HDXL. This has been stable for 3 years. I also have a Roamio that connects to this switch. Both Tivos connect to the internet via DHCP.
My cable provider (TWC) changed the channel lineups and both Tivo's wanted me to run Guided Setup again. I did the Roamio with no problems. However, the HDXL can't see the internet, and gives me an N24 error if I connect via DHCP, or says it can't see the network adapter if I have it assign a static IP. I have recycled the switch and the Tivo several times, and still can't connect from the HDXL. I have no problem connecting from the Roamio, so I suspect something is amiss in my HDXL, but I cannot figure out what to do next.

Hi TiVo Stream owners!
We have begun releasing the out-of-home feature to TiVo Stream boxes. An initial group of boxes were authorized for the update today.
If you are anxious to see if your TiVo Stream was one of them, then WHILE CONNECTED TO YOUR HOME NETWORK you'll need to:
- start the TiVo iOS app on your iPhone or iPad
- go into Settings > Streaming System Information
- select "Make Service Call" (it will turn gray)
- wait until the "Make Service Call" is black again
- select "Restart streaming device" and wait awhile for the restart to complete
- go to Settings > Streaming Setup
*IF* your box was in the first group to be authorized for the update, then the "Set Up Streaming?" screen will have a checkbox for "Set up out-of-home streaming". Check that box, and complete setup.
NOTE: You will only be able to OOH stream from retail TiVo Premiere or Roamio DVRs running 188.8.131.52a software or later.
If your TiVo Stream was not in this first batch, it should be updated within a couple of weeks.
My HD Tivo recently stopped working with an SO3 error. I am not very handy and you can find more details about the problem in another post on this forum.
I believe it is fixable but I simply do not have the time. I bought a Roamio instead.
I will sell the Tivo HD with lifetime contract and 500GB expansion drive (95 hours HD total) to the best offer.
I am setting up my new Tivo Roamio and want to create a Season Pass for new episodes of Modern Family. The problem is that the network that shows the new episodes (ABC) is not releasing any in the next 2 weeks. So when I try to create a Season Pass it only offers me the options of the Networks which are showing repeats.
How do I handle this? If I create a season pass on one of these networks and select "new only", will it record a new episode on ABC when the new season begins?
Or, do I have to wait for the new season in order to create this season pass.?
I am confused.
My minis keep losing their connection. It seems like every day now two of the three don't have a connection when I go to watch TV, and I have to wait for them to reboot- then it's fine. Now my third one just lost it in the middle of watching a show.
I'm hoping that it's just that the mini's have new software and the XL4 doesn't yet (as of a day or two ago), but what else could be causing this? It wasn't happening up until recently...
Would adding MoCA filters help at all? I'm currently totally unfiltered.
