TivoHD outputs no video and requires restart

TiVoCommunity Forum Recent Threads - Wed, 06/19/2013 - 09:22
OK everyone. I have looked through the related threads and I believe my problem is different. In the other threads, the users can still get the menus, etc to work. In my instance I get nothing, no video at all, until I restart the unit, which is no fun as the unit takes an absurd amount of time to restart. It has been working just fine for about 3 years, but now suddenly it seems to be blanked out anytime we go to use it. Any thoughts? It is a non-modded unit and our signal is via comcast cable card.

Falling Skie - S3E2 - "Badlands"

I'm surprised there's no thread yet. I thought this was a good episode. So there's another President, the real US President, and they have found out about Tom's little republic. You can pretty much guess, based on the reaction of the captured soldier that they have no deals with the aliens.

Time Warner shuffled channels - Tivos lost them all

TiVoCommunity Forum Recent Threads - Wed, 06/19/2013 - 07:08
CWCNY in Central New York completely changed all its HD channel numbers. Both of my Premieres w/tuning adapters lost all channels above 99.
Local tech passed me off to Cable Card specialist, who had me read stuff from the cable card installer menus. She even tried unpairing and re-pairing the cable card; nothing worked.
She said nobody else she knew of had this problem, but I have have the problem on both boxes. She offered me a roll today but I'm too busy. The tech will be here tomorrow.
I'll report back.
It's interesting, usually when a channel changes, even one I don't have turned on, I get a message on my TiVo. This time, every channel changed and no message. It's even worse than when the tuning adapter breaks, because at least then, I can get the main network HD channels and a few more. With this, it's every HD channel.
I think TW is doing this region by region, so maybe they'll learn something from yo situation that will help others.

Series 3 OLED

TiVoCommunity Forum Recent Threads - Tue, 06/18/2013 - 21:01
I have two of these S3 OLEDs still running great, both lifetimed and upgraded (to 1TB I think).

I see them sold on Ebay (completed listings) for $250-350.

Any interest here? If I can eat into the replacement Premiere S4 $350, I may take TiVo up on the current $450 lifetimed S4 offer.

replacing FIOS STB with Tivo Premier XL4

TiVoCommunity Forum Recent Threads - Tue, 06/18/2013 - 19:20
I currently have a FIOS STB, and have just ordered a Tivo Premier XL4. I use FIOS for my internet as well. The TIVO is supposed to come with service pre-activated since I ordered online.

I have coax running to my FIOS STB.

For the Tivo as the FIOS router does MOCA, do I need to connect the Tivo's ethernet to my home network in addition to FIOS coax?

Do I need to have the technician do anything different?

Any words of wisdom?

Thanks!
Gary

Weird problem

TiVoCommunity Forum Recent Threads - Tue, 06/18/2013 - 19:04
So I have 2 regular Premiere units and a 4 tuner Elite. All of them are configured with the exact same channel lineup. Today I was having a signal problem so I was checking the signal strength meter on the TiVos.

First off one of the Premiere units throws up an error saying "you can not access this feature because your lineup does not contain any digital channels". WTF? I know it does because I can tune then in live TV.

The other Premiere shows a signal strength of exactly 79 for every single channel.

The Elite seems to work properly showing a strength between 87 and 95 for most channels.

All of them are using the newest software release. Is this some sort of bug with the latest software and the 2 tuner units?

Comcast Broadcast HD on Tivo

TiVoCommunity Forum Recent Threads - Tue, 06/18/2013 - 18:48
I have been watching broadcast HD channels 702, 703, 705, 707 and 709 on my HD Tivo in the Bay Area for years and recently I no longer get 2 of these channels dues to 'digital migration'. According to Comcast support once my account is audited I will no longer get any of these channels unless I upgrade to a 'preferred' account.

I checked the Comcast page for my zip code and sure enough, limited basic does not offer broadcast HD channels anymore. Only digital preferred and digital premier, which I don't need.

What are my options? Do I have to use rabbit ears to get the digital signal outside of Comcast or is there some way I can get broadcast hd channels through Comcast while keeping my limited basic account.

Thanks for any info.

Can I purchase from AMZ & buy Lifetime from TiVo?

TiVoCommunity Forum Recent Threads - Tue, 06/18/2013 - 13:47
I have some Discover cash back that can reduce my upfront cost at Amazon on a Premiere 4 box.

I already have a Premiere dual tuner on a month-month agreement.
Can I buy @ Amazon the P4 & add the Lifetime Service to its purchase after from TiVo?

I've read that there may be (by calling in) some current customer special pricing even less that the MSD $399 being currently listed - how true is this?

Appreciate any feedback.

Pixelation every 12 minutes when streaming

TiVoCommunity Forum Recent Threads - Tue, 06/18/2013 - 09:31
This is a strange issue. I have two Premiere XL4's networked via gigabit. When streaming from one TiVo to the other while a program is recording, I'm seeing very brief pixelation every 12-13 minutes consistently. This pixelation is not present when viewed locally on the recording Premiere. Even more odd, I only see this pixelation with baseball games as I couldn't detect it in any other content - I know that sounds crazy but it's true. I assumed it must be confined to one channel, however the game was on a different channel the other day and I noticed the same pixelation pattern. I've power cycled my routers as well as both TiVo's and the issue remains. I'm not sure where to go form here...

COX deploying SDV & Tuning Adapters in LAS VEGAS, RIGHT NOW!

COX deploying SDV & Tuning Adapters in LAS VEGAS, RIGHT NOW!

Two days ago, out of nowhere, we received a notification that as of JUNE 17, 2013, Tuning Adapters would be available, as a self-install kit, at our local Cox retail centers, free of charge & additional fees.

It also states that: AS OF JULY 17, 2013, we would lose nearly all our channels, beyond basic service, if the Tuning Adapters were NOT installed before that date.

They make a play to save us the hassle of going through this, by offering ONE (ONLY ONE) of THEIR digital/HD receivers for the same price as a CableCard for 12 months (which I guess might appeal to somebody with ONLY ONE TiVo (or other CableCard device, NOT leased from Cox). After the year of $1.99/month offer, the costs associated with keeping the receiver would go up to whatever rates were in place at that point.

THERE IS NO MENTION OF ON-DEMAND, unless it's while their baiting you with a discounted receiver, leased from them.

In a house where family members are SCOLDED, harshly, for leaving a single CF nightlight on, or not turning off lights when leaving a room, I am very worried about the increased electrical utility bill that will arise from using these Tuning Adapters. We have some of the highest electric rates in the nation. I've read, all over, how these Tuning Adapters are inefficient ELECTRICITY HOGS, run hot, and introduce all sorts of issues in the wake of their deployment.

I realize this is the way things need to be, and it was coming sooner or later. My biggest concern is does the FCC CableCard mandate also cover Tuning Adapters, or are they a separate matter. If separate, who do we complain to, if/when there are problems with them? Cox here absolutely hates TiVo, hates CableCards, & hates supporting the parts that they should be responsible for supporting. Their party line for a year has been "We don't support TiVo". It doesn't matter what the problem is, or if it affects every device in the house, non-TiVo & all, if there are TiVos in the house, that's the line you get...

TiVo prepping nex generation DVRs

Dave Z has a good article on The Verge about the TiVo Series 5.

Quote: TiVo is prepping a beefy six-tuner DVR that can expand beyond the 2-terabyte storage limit, making for a capacious media hub ideally suited to feed a number of TiVo Mini extenders sprinkled around the home. http://www.theverge.com/2013/6/17/44...-to-six-tuners

I am patiently waiting to upgrade! :)

Driving multiple TVs from TiVo DVR

TiVoCommunity Forum Recent Threads - Mon, 06/17/2013 - 21:09
Is it possible to drive 2 TVs from a single HDMI output, out of the TiVo? I have a Premier 4XL in my living room and want to add a TV in my garage to mirror whatever is being shown on the TV in the living room. Not looking to watch things independently between the garage and the living room...looking to watch the same thing in both places at the same time. This is mostly for football games. I know I would have to get a spliter or something but wanted to see how other people have solved this problem.
