We're thinking of getting DISH but wondering if buying the lifetime Tivo might be better than going with the Hopper. We hate subscriptions. Although being able to record 2000 hours on the Hopper is better than 75 on the Tivo, how many shows can you watch? Also the monthly fees on the Hopper plus Joey go up $12/month for a second TV. But we haven't tried either interface. Any thoughts, opinions?
I just spent server hours on the phone with SonicWall, as my Firewall / IPS was not allowing the download of the Tivo program updates.
I had recently updated to firmware 5.9.x on the SonicWall, and the IPS (Intrusion Prevention System) was block the Tivo programming update as a LOW LEVEL MALWARE ATTACK!
So, either the new firmware or the latest signatures for the latest firmware (5.9 at this posting), was causing the issue.
Unfortunately, you only have two options with a SonicWall:
1) Allow the Tivos to by-pass the IPS system completely. (Do you trust Tivo?)
2) Turn off the Low Priority Attacks setting on the SonicWall IPS.
Unlike a Palo Alto or Tipping Point, it appears that a common SonicWall (e.g. small business one) can not be set to allow a specific tripped rule to be turned off for a specific network object.
[At least that's what they told me... which doesn't make sense...]
I have seen a few threads where people have talked about transferring all their existing shows to the Roamio. Is that possible in bulk in any fashion? I don't really want to go show by show and move things, as that would take a lot of navigation just to get going. Can I at least transfer whole folders over at a time? Will it keep the show information?
Is there a Roamio remote code that works with the Polk Audio SurroundBar 5000? I'd love to be able to change the volume with one remote...
Two Tivo HDs with Lifetime Service and 1TB hard drive upgrades in excellent condition.
157 Hours. Cables, manuals, original boxes.
1) One remote is a limited edition RED Tivo remote. $300
2) The other has an original remote and the writing has rubbed off many of the buttons.
(See picture.) It's still very usable for those of us who know the peanut -- or you could use your universal remote or buy a replacement online. $285
Prices include shipping in the continental US. UPS Ground with tracking.
On my Series 3, Season Pass will not record.
Any ideas what is wrong. I've tried it for a number of shows, and they do not show up in the "To Do' list.
I just setup my new Roamio Pro last night and I'm having an issue with one channel. The channel is the local FOX station, so I don't think it's a CableCRD issue and the station does not use the TA. When I tune the station on my Premiere or Elite it works fine, but when I tune it on my Roamio it's all broken up and pixelated. If I go to the DVR Diagnostics screen and look at the tuner that is set to that channel the signal strength is jumping all around in the range from 71 to 100 and the SNR jumps between 26 and 39. The most obvious sign of a problem is the "RS Uncorrected" and "RS Corrected" values are just constantly rising, after a few minutes reach numbers in the millions. When tuned to any other channel those numbers are 0 or really low, like less then 10.
Is anyone else seeing this? Any ideas what I can try to fix it? It's FOX so there are going to be some shows starting soon that I'm going to want to record.
Just had this question thrown at me during a Tivo survey:
With TiVo Mini today, one of the tuners on your TiVo Roamio box is assigned to your TiVo Mini at all times. This tuner is not available on your TiVo Roamio for recording shows, watching live TV, etc.
Are you aware that one of your TiVo Roamio tuners is always assigned to TiVo Mini?
If I want to transfer all my shows from my Premiere to my Roamio, how many transfers can I queue up from the Roamio UI?
I know most people recommend using kmttg for batch transfers, but I'm having a hard time getting the PyTivo Push functionality to work properly.
I have a TiVo Premiere that seems to have an overall audio output level that is much lower than any of my other sources. The effect is noticeable on both the analog and HDMI outputs (that is, TiVo audio over analog is quieter than my other analog sources, and TiVo audio over HDMI is quieter than my other HDMI sources.) This has been the case for two receivers to which the TiVo has been connected (an Onkyo TX-SR605 and a Denon AVR-X3000.)
It does not seem to be affected by what is playing on the TiVo (Dolby Digital cable channels vs. stereo channels, or TiVo apps like Netflix vs. live/recorded cable TV.) All told, TiVo sound seems to be about 10dB lower than any other source (Apple TV, game consoles, Mac Mini, analog CD, etc.)
Both the Onkyo and the Denon have source level adjustments, so I can crank up the input gain on the TiVo's input so that the level is more or less matched to other sources (so that I don't get blasted out when I change inputs.) But the Denon's adjustment only works for the main zone, and I have a whole-house audio system connected to Zone 2. That's causing me some heartache, because if someone switches from TiVo to music (or any other source) in Zone 2, the levels are way out of balance.
So I'm curious if anyone else has seen this, and if there are any possible solutions. I'm wondering if maybe it has to do with my CableCard (or cable company - Cox in OKC) but I don't have a standard cable box to check against. I've also wondered if there is some way to access any "non-standard" TiVo settings that would somehow allow for an audio output gain adjustment. I'm also researching if there is some way I can apply the gain adjustment in my receiver to both zones, but that doesn't seem terribly likely.
I'd be willing to upgrade to a Roomio if it would alleviate the problem, but if it's a cable/CableCard issue, it doesn't seem like that would help.
Anyone know anything Amazon carries that will work in this area? I have one old TV with no HDMI that I want to hook to one of my new Tivo Minis. I had just bought a Roku HD2 and it had a cable that may work, but I would prefer one with component output.
I can't find any specs on this cable and the "quick start poster" for the Mini lacks a lot of details.
I have a couple of Tivo HD's I've been meaning to sell (lifetime, 1tb), but I've been delaying because of the impression that paypal will be a hassle.
I have ebay & pp accounts. I haven't bought anything for a couple of years and I've never sold anything on ebay.
To sell something, will I have to give paypal access to a bank account?
Once paid, how to I get my money from paypal?
Any general ebay advice? Auction or not? Timing? I know I'll take a hit for not having a selling history.
OK, lets leave Ereth's thread alone.
Eccleston was a good reboot, and set a great tone. He was good at conveying an underlying menace that the Doctor possesses, and he had a sense of humor. I think he failed a little with seeming smart even when acting silly, though. I liked his take, but he just pointed the gun in the right direction for Tenant and then Smith.
Tenant: He was great at playing up the whimsy and intelligence of the Doctor, but not so much with the power and menace under the surface. He was also great at showing how much the Doctor cares.
Smith: different than Tenant, but also great. I think he hit the mark with the Doctor's whimsy, intelligence, and menace. He also looked a little alien to me.
Tenant and Smith are tied, IMO. If I watch a lot of Smith episodes, he's my favorite, but if I watch a lot of Tenant episodes, then he's my favorite.
I put a new hard drive in a Premiere XL last night and everything went great with the setup. Today it is very sluggish responding to the remote. It has to be right on it to work. Any ideas on this?
I'm having some issues with my newly-acquired Roamio (the base model). It seems similar to issues that others have had in the past with Premiere boxes. It appears that some channels will not tune (I have a CableCard under Comcast). I've gotten V52 and (maybe?) V53 errors. I've noticed it only on HD channels, but that's what I watch 90% of the time, so I don't know if that's significant. More interestingly, even when I can get channels, sometimes they're blocky and pixelated (like when there's a weak signal).
Here are a few interesting things though:
1. It seems to get worse the longer the Roamio is on. In other words, everything almost always works well after a reboot, but then the situation degrades.
2. It seems as if the higher numbered HD channels are more likely to be untunable.
3. Most interestingly, I NEVER have this problem when I go into the "Test Channels" dialog in the CableCard setup menu. It only happens when I try to watch TV as normal.
Needless to say, this is fairly frustrating. Does anyone have any insight here? Should I just be asking Tivo for a replacement box? Or is this some more widespread software issue? Or some issue not related to the Tivo at all?
Beyond easy drive replacement, it’s come to light that the TiVo Roamio and updated Minis are capable of displaying arbitrary web pages and streaming H.264 video. I suppose it’s really no surprise given the Roamio’s Chomecast-esque DIAL capabilities and upcoming HTML5 Opera app platform. Fortunately, this new method of TiVo interface is unprotected and the infinitely useful kmttg has [...]

Thinking about buying a Tivo. My decision has become harder since Tivo released the new Roamio line. I was set to buy the Premiere XL 4 since it has THX certified video and I noticed none of the new Roamio line have THX certified video. I have seen the picture quality on the Premiere XL 4 and it is excellent, better than my current Directv or Cable DVR. Not sure which Tivo to buy?
I had to switch from Bonjour to Beacon to even have my Roamio "see " my PC in "My Shows"
But when I actually try to transfer videos from PC to Roamio, either automatically or manually via Tivo desktop 2.8.3, the download starts, then dies with "download rate too slow" messages in history. Even though I have a wireless N ethernet adapter and a 90mb internet router that works just fine transferring to my Premiere. these are small video files that should easily transfer. And daily podcasts subcribed directly on the Roamio are not downloading either
