what are the implications of not doing what you would say, playing the idol?
i FF thru most of this because i dont like the soap opera aspect but i'm glad i caught that. in the beginning of the show, mini russell sure was a firecracker. there had to be more off camera stuff said to calm him down.
still woulda been nice to see him go ape on the camp for comedic value
the bulge in the pants comment was an all time classic
I have 3 active TiVos (and one inactive) and having just lost analog cable I'm wondering if there's a way to shift the plans around. The machines are:
- S2DT (500GB) [S2/500]: Service only, annual (paid through May 2013)
- S2DT (80GB) [S2/80]: TiVo Lifetime Service since 2004
- Premiere (320GB) [P]: Service Only, 1 Year, Monthly (looks like I'm committed through Aug 2013)
I assume TiVo won't refund the remaining partial year on the S2/500? Or credit to another box? In that case I'm wondering about loading it up with recordings from the PC, the S2/80, and maybe SD from the P (if SD recorded on the P is compatible with an S2), then not renewing service in May. I don't have a signal for it to record any more (I could invest in a digital-analog adapter I suppose, but it seems like throwing good money after bad).
Is there likely any way I can move the LT from the S2/80 onto either the S2/500 or the P? I guess if not, I could again transfer SD recordings from the past or from the P. If I were willing to lose (or transfer to PC) everything on the S2/80, I could swap in the 500GB and use it with LT service?
Finally, if TiVo's not going to let me transfer the LT from S2/80 to P, am I allowed to sign up for LT on the P now? I just paid $13 for another month and I'm thinking that if I want LT then I might as well get it now for $400 rather than waiting another 6 months. Is $400 (MSD price) the best I'm likely to get on the P?
[added: I also noticed there's no offer of a year @ $99 on the S2/500. Only $9.95/mo or $399.99 LT (MSD pricing). Is that new?
Until a few days ago transfers were done without any problem.
For the last 3 days I repeatedly get "Failed" when trying to transfer from TiVo to desktop with comment: "The system cannot find the file specified."
Can someone please explain and help me rectify this issue.
One of my S2s quit. No lights, nothing. Took out the ps and when I turned it over on the underside, one leg off the AC input connector at the solder joint was burned open. did a qick check for shorts, found none and put it back into the box. Applying AC, for a second the gray screen flashed by and the front light started to flash green & orange I believe. Unplugged it right away, took out the ps supply and took one out of a S2 540 box which was working, but not subbed. The S2 240 fired right up like nothing happened.
Did some reading and ordered 2 sets of capacitors from Mouser. Paid for USPS shipping and they send it 2nd day air.
My question is or are :
Are these caps the same for the S2 as listed for S3 models ? Couldn't find parts listings for S2 power supply.
Is there a schematic available for S2 ? 240 and 540 series ?
How do you get that white epoxy or whatever covers the caps off ?
Couldn't find any info about that.
Not related to this problem. Is it worth to get a mother board fixed with a lifetime sub ? I think $ 150.- is being charged for a repair job.
Thanks for any info.
Nevermind I figured it out.
I am going through the process of learning about my new TiVo Premier. I have been using a DVR for years so I have been a little spoiled.
One of things I am trying to learn is the hidden keys (short cuts) on the remote. For example has someone compiled a list of short cuts to get things done quickly?
Examples would be, while watching a recording and you decide you do not want the show, is to hit the “left” arrow key (to mimic a “stop” key) to generate the question to “delete this show”.
Another example is there a universal or “exit” or “clear” the screen key for "any" screen you may be on?
I bought this direct from Tivo and decided not to use it.
Before putting it on eBay I thought I'd see if a member here wants it.
I'll take $50.00 shipped in CONUS via PayPal personal.
I have 100% feedback on eBay over 10+ years.
I have this old Series 2 I have sitting around and have decided to finally sell it.
It is still listed on my account on tivo.com, under Inactive TiVo devices
I will not sell on ebay unless it is the last resort, plan on selling it on craigslist
Already cleared all recordings, data, etc.
How much should I try to sell it for?
Do I have to give the future owner some personal information when they buy this unit from me in order to re-activate under a different account?
Do they still allow service subscription and/or support for this series of devices?
showed up today in the clearance center at tivo.com
TiVo Mini extenders have begun to arrive in Suddenlink customer homes. And, thanks to numerous contributions by TiVo Community forum member spotterman26, retail launch functionality has been clarified. While true dynamic tuner allocation remains out of reach, and pushed back on TiVo’s roadmap according to sources, the situation isn’t as dire as it appeared at first [...]
I currently picked up an older Series 3 (OLED) for cheap on Craiglist. Mainly got it for its hard drive to put in my other Series 3 (OLED) lifetime unit. Everything works good so far, but I was thinking of then possibly putting in another hard drive I have into the recent CL Series 3 & then trying to lifetime it later for $99.
However, I might be able to get a hold of a Series 3 TiVo HD. The model that has two cable card slots, but can accept 1 M-card or 2 S-cards. I thought I could then maybe lifetime this unit instead.
I like the front clock of the older Series 3 (OLED), but other than the cable card advantage, is there really any other advantage of this TiVo HD over a Series 3 (OLED)? If so, what?
Since the launch of WVL I've had streaming issues where my second machine either the XL4 or the PXL won't show up in "MY SHOWS"! Both machines are hard-wired and always have been. Trying to trouble shoot on my PXL using Tivo Central>S&M>HELP>MultipleTiVoBoxes>advanced streaming help my XL4 shows as being connected as MOCA. It has never been.
Rebooting the TiVo (both) doesn't fix a thing. TiVo had me hook up my N-adapter and then disconnect and return to Ethernet attempting to "trick" I guess the XL4 machine.
With the N-adapter connected in settings>network with the N-connected it shows as being connected as MOCA(ethernet-bridged) on the XL4 in settings>network. Is that correct? It worked for a few hours but still on the PXL it showed as MOCA connected. Going back to Ethernet and showing Ethernet on the XL4 after connections by both machines to TiVo the problem still exists and my PXL has disappeared from "MY SHOWS" on the XL4.
Also when it does work I get a message when streaming the "NEWEST/most recent" recording that it will delete in the next 24 hours on both machines.
TiVo says for sure they have issues and I of course mentioned that we should have the "option" to "OPTOUT" of their "marketing maneuvers" and they insist it's passed on but who knows.
In a completely hard-wired system I'm sure the boxes in "advanced streaming" should display the actual connection type of the other networked machine/s. I've no idea how to reset and after opening a brand new N-adapter that didn't fool the system I'm a bit aggravated. TiVo has no clue.
Thoughts? I have no idea how well I've explained my situation but I'd certainly like to get it remedied. TiVo mentions problems since the WVL launch but they're not sharing.
Even with the RF/COAX disconnected the XL4 showed as connected MOCA on the PXL using advanced streaming help. I disconnected all TiVo, the router, modem and rebooted the entire system with no change.
My living room Tivo just got a new TV (Sony).
I am noticing the the Tivo sound effects when I FF and click on stuff, etc, are gone now. The only time I hear them is when I go into the part that turns into SDUI, such as settings. The sound effects setting is on 'medium'.
Is there a way to get this back? I like the silly sounds.
ETA - Not sure if it is elemental, but the Tivo is Premiere 2-tuner. Thx!
I have a used TCD648250B Series 3 HD tivo for sale. I upgraded it to a 1TB Western Digital Green drive several years ago and I have never had any problems with it.
It also comes with Lifetime service which I will transfer to the new owner.
I am selling it because I sold my living room tv so I no longer need a second tivo.
It comes with all the original packaging including remote, hdmi cable, component cables, rca cables and power cord. I also have a glo remote I no longer use which I will send along with it, if you want it.
$375 which includes shipping to anywhere in the continental US.
Thanks for looking!
I just went through an issue with my XL4 that I'd like to share. I am a Cable One customer in the Prescott, AZ area. I got my XL4 in August 2012. Initially, my signal stregnth was on the Tivo channel stregnth meter was between 78 and 80 for all of my channels...SNR was 31-32. I had occasional issues with "pixelation" and I was advised by a Tivo rep to install an amplifier which imporved my sinal stregnth to 88-90...SNR was still 31-32. I had no further issues until last Friday February 15 when I lost 6 of my HD channels. Signal stregnth on the affected channels went from 66 to 0 while all the other operating channels were stable at 82 -85. SNR was 28-29. I bypassed the amplifier and went straight from the wall jack to the Tivo with a new cable and the signal stregnth was down to 74 on the operating channels, and absolutely nothing on the 6 channels I lost initially. I moved the Tivo to another room with a different cable input jack and the readings were the same. Cable guy came out Monday and immediately blamed the amplifier....I watched as he put his meter in the wall jack, and then in the amplifier output jack....the bar readings were obviously higher with the amplifier and he reconnected the cables using my amplifier in the loop. He changed the cable card with no improvement. He then got another tech out to the house and together they couldn't figure out what was causing the issue. They went outside to one of their trucks for over 35 minutes...I could see they were both on their phones. Finally one guy came back to the house with a splitter and proceeded to remove my amplifier from the setup....the other guy came in a couple of minutes later and told the tech to wait a few minutes before he hooked everything back up. He got another phone call and then told the guy that it was OK to proceed. Not only did the affected channels come in, but the signal stregnth was now at 92-94 WITHOUT the amplifier and the SNR was at 35-37. When I asked what caused this dramatic transformation the guy said "we removed your amplifier". When I questioned why this didn't cure the problem the first time he removed the amplifier he was mute.
There is no doubt in my mind that they did something outside of my home to the system to make this dramatic change. I am posting this so that it might be of some help when any of you guys/girls are dealing with a cable company signal issue. I wish they had shared what they did to cure the problem, but whatever it was, my Tivo has been operating perfectly since Monday evening.
Is there a reason the Tivo N wireless adapter is setup so that I can't use it as a generic wireless receiver by plugging it into a switch? Tried it and the N adapter never connects unless it's plugged directly into the Tivo.
The reason I'd like to use it this way is that my Premiere sits right next to a Series 2, and if I could use a switch then I could run the Series 2 at N speeds.
Yes, I know, I can buy a different Wireless N unit and plug it into a switch, but I already own the Tivo unit.
With wins from The Golden Globes, the Producers Guild of America and the Screen Actors Guild, all eyes are on Ben Affleck’s Argo. Many people have been surprised by Argo‘s sweep at all of the awards shows, in part because of Ben Affleck’s Academy snub for Best Director. People didn’t forget that Argo was an excellent film; it was just overshadowed by everything else that was released in the early winter of 2012 like Lincoln, Life of Pi, Les Miserables and Silver Linings Playbook. Affleck was recently honored by the Directors Continue Reading
I love ESPN. I am entirely willing to spend gobs of money on my cable bill just to get it. Even so, my jaw dropped when I read that the licensing fee for ESPN programming is set to go above $7 per month in 2017. That’s the amount pay-TV operators have to spend per subscriber to [...]
Maybe a silly question but...I was watching an OnDemand program when I get a message saying it must close the OnDemand screen to record a program (I was already recording one program). I know you can watch a pre-recorded show while recording two, but does this not apply to OnDemand? Is it the same with Netflix?
