Roamio setup with Moca-help needed

TiVoCommunity Forum Recent Threads - Sun, 01/26/2014 - 13:07
I am going to suspend my directv account for 6 months and see if I can make a go of tivo.

I have a basic roamio and a mini being delivered tomorrow, but I am trying to setup all I can before they arrive.

I have been reading all I can on this site, as well as on tivo.com.

I have an attic antenna that is split to several jacks around the house. This is currently giving me crystal clear HD, better than directv.

I just used a directv cinema connection wireless device to bring internet to my tv where i plan on putting the roamio. I have two of these devices. Can I use them as moca adapters? One at the router and one at the roamio tv, or do i even need to do that, as long as i have internet using just one of the directv devices?

I am trying to get away with not buying the actiontec adapters, so can anyone tell me if my existing directv devices will work at moca adapters?

I will have a mini in another room, but I know it won't work without a moca network. I am pretty shaky on how to set that up.

Thank you so much in advance.

will a mini work good across several network switches?

TiVoCommunity Forum Recent Threads - Sun, 01/26/2014 - 09:06
I am looking to get a mini for my system. All of my network is hard wired via Ethernet. Everything works good with my series 3 and premiere TiVos. Certain locations I am thinking of putting the mini would basically require about 3 or 4 hops through various 10/100 mbs network switches in order to get the live TV tuner from a 4-tuner Premiere.

Will the mini be able to get the live tuner easily through the various network switches. Or could there be some complications. If so, what? I thought about maybe givng the 4-tuner premiere a fixed/static IP address to possibly help this situation. Or will this not matter?

Any thoughts or insight?

Pre-Purchase Questions.

I have looked over the forum and so maybe the answer is out there but under different wording / terminology..

(1) Can two Roamio Basic's share programs? AKA: If program is recorded on Roamio Basic #1 (living room) be viewed on Roamio Basic #2 set up in another room? AKA: Can two Roamio Basic's be on the same network?

(2) If three Mini's connected to the same network with only one Roamio Basic and two of the Mini's and the Roamio Basic all tuned to the same channel does this take three tuners or do they all share the same (one) tuner till one of them changes channels?

IF the answer to #1 is yes... Can you have two Roamio Basic's on the same network along with two Mini's can the Mini's choose programing for playback from either of the two Roamio Basic's? (current Monday, Thur. & Friday programing has me recording on six channels!)

After close to 20 years of being a DirecTV subscriber their leasing/per-set and program charges are forcing me to look else where for my programing, and since 90% of my recorded programs is Network TV which I could record off air I a looking at getting a Tivo again (I say again as my first few DirecTV DVR's were Tivo interface based.) I currently have three HD-DVR's and two HD Receivers that share programing all on the same 1GB rated wired network (Not MOCA), so can I use Tivo's to replicate the same program sharing set-up?

TiVo Service Down -- Scheduled Maintenance???

TiVoCommunity Forum Recent Threads - Sun, 01/26/2014 - 02:17
Just noticed that I'm getting TiVo service "communication error"s from the Tivo App and my Tivo's are getting a C133 error and have no online content on the main screen. Someone over at TiVo doing a server maintenance?

Weird Wishlist auto-record problem....

TiVoCommunity Forum Recent Threads - Sun, 01/26/2014 - 01:51
I set up a wish list to auto-record my favorite hockey team. It actually starts recording and I can watch while it's recording the game in "my shows", but once it's done it disappears, not to be found anywhere.

I go to history and see why it didn't record (even though it started recording) and it's says it's a duplicate of something that's been done within the last 28 days and that I have to set up to record "everything". Now it records the game that gets replayed around 3 times after the game has been played.

Other than just having it recording "everything", i have the tuners and i have the space, is there a where to work around this that it only records the "live" game? I think I may have to have it not "auto-record" and manually set up each recording. That kinda sucks because I may miss a game because I forgot to record it.

I can't imagine I'm the only one with this problem so I'm sure somebody has a suggestion.

Netflix app: jump to beginning/end?

TiVoCommunity Forum Recent Threads - Sat, 01/25/2014 - 22:50
I have a Premiere and an older HD. When I'm streaming Netflix on my Premiere, there seems to be no way to jump to the beginning or end of a movie! We're 1.5 hours into "The Hunger Games" and the only way I can see to restart the movie is to scan backwards through the whole damn thing--which on a streaming movie takes about fifteen minutes!

What's the deal? I changed the remote setting to get rid of the 30-second skip, but that didn't help. If I'm paused, hitting the Advance (or Skip, if you prefer) button jumps ahead 10 seconds, and the Replay jumps back 10 seconds. Same with FF or REW. There are no tick marks to jump to, and it won't jump to the beginning or end.

There's also no "Play from beginning" option when I start the movie, which would help.

Am I missing something, or on the Premiere with the latest Netflix app is it just impossible to jump to the beginning or end of a show? Because if so, that's mind-bogglingly stupid.

I'm already suffering through the incredibly slow HD interface. (Great idea: make the hardware 2x faster and the software 20x slower!) I stuffed the Premiere in our back room and use the older HD for our regular viewing. I feel like Tivo is going the way of too many other tech companies: each update makes their products worse.

python HME web launcher

TiVoCommunity Forum Recent Threads - Sat, 01/25/2014 - 21:49
Attached to this post is a "weblauncher" module for python HME. The intent is to be able to launch web pages on internal TiVo Opera browser from the TiVo itself. i.e. This is an HME wrapper around launching web pages on TiVo internal browser. Obviously the web launching will only work for series 4 or later TiVos (and Minis).
This may become useful at some point if/when 3rd party html/html5 applications are developed for TiVo.

Once unzipped to top python HME folder all you need to do is edit weblauncher/config.ini to supply your 10 digit MAK, and also to enter 1 or more URLs that you want to be able to launch.

S3: Where to sell?

TiVoCommunity Forum Recent Threads - Sat, 01/25/2014 - 21:39
Decided to jump on the Roamio bandwagon, and sell my 648 S3 OLED with lifetime. I replaced the power supply in it and it has a <1 yr old 2T hard drive. I don't know the best place to sell it, though. Should I put it up on eBay? Sell it here? Craig's list?

What's the best move?

Tivo and mp4 signals

TiVoCommunity Forum Recent Threads - Sat, 01/25/2014 - 20:35
Former ion stations in Houston have moved to a low power frequency. In the former ch 49 is now the main ion channel and about ten subchannels. My research reveals they are encrypted premium movie channels and also Spanish Tv. A special reciever is required to pick up the premium channels. The box is from airbox tv. I would not mind Showtime for a small fee. No way I want another box though, the Premiere is doing just fine. I do wonder if the new company box will have a guide since there is a payment plan...and I wonder if Tivo would ever be able to have a compatible device that picks up the encrypted channels?

MythBusters 1/25/14 - Bad guide data?

The show airing tonight ("Car Chase Chaos; Animal Antics") lists an Original Air Date of 9/16/2013 on both my TiVo and Zap2It.com. Since my Season Pass is set to record only new episodes, it was set to be skipped over and not recorded. I had to set a manual recording to ensure it'd get saved.

Off-Air + CableCard setup possible?

TiVoCommunity Forum Recent Threads - Sat, 01/25/2014 - 19:11
Does the Premiere allow OTA channels while using the CableCard and if so how? It has 2 coax connectors on back, one for each. It says channel scanning is not possible with my present setup.

TW refuses to give cable card?

TiVoCommunity Forum Recent Threads - Sat, 01/25/2014 - 18:04
I've been using my Roamio for OTA, but getting only 2 channels isn't cutting it (This is my location, but the fault of the Roamio). I called Time Warner to see what they'd charge for the locals only package. They said it would add $20 to my bill (Currently have high speed internet with them), which I thought was ridiculous, but said go ahead anyway, but when I mentioned that I needed a cable card for my Tivo, they flat out refused. I told them they were required by law to issue cable card, and they said yes, but not for this particular package. It REQUIRED their receiver, and REQUIRED a professional $50 install as well. Is this right? Can they refuse to issue cable cards on their basic, locals only package?

Roamio Specs

TiVoCommunity Forum Recent Threads - Sat, 01/25/2014 - 18:00
Curious what the specs of the Roamio are (Specifically the CPU and RAM, and specifically for the base unit if they're different), and why the 7 year old PS3 runs faster than my Roamio. The speed isn't bad, especially compared to the Premiere, but loading apps is extremely slow compared to my PS3.

Which premium subscription music service do you like

TiVoCommunity Forum Recent Threads - Sat, 01/25/2014 - 17:56
I am looking to subscribe to one of the TiVo compatible music services for my Premieres, smartphones and tablets; Pandora, Spotify or Rhapsody. Unless it has changed recently, I know Pandora is more of a radio streaming service so I am probably leaning more toward Spotify or Rhapsody (music on Demand). Which one do you like using with TiVO and why?

Custom podcaster formats?

TiVoCommunity Forum Recent Threads - Sat, 01/25/2014 - 16:50
What formats does the TiVo Premiere recognize when you enter a custom URL in the "Enter a URL" screen at the http:// prompt?
I've been trying to listen to Priarie Home companion live for 2 years now.

Questions about Mini

TiVoCommunity Forum Recent Threads - Sat, 01/25/2014 - 16:39
I am looking at possibly getting a mini for my setup. It would be connected to a 4-tuner Premiere that is currently in our bedroom. I would move this Premiere to another location and then put the Mini in the bedroom. All of my TiVos are hard wired via Ethernet connections.

Three questions about the mini:
  • Does it now have Netflix on it ( I thought I remember reading here is does, but don't see it mentioned anywhere on the TiVO website)
  • Judging from some posts here, I am pretty sure dynamic tuning has been fully implemented, correct?
  • Does the Mini still have a 'timeout' feature? I think I read a post that says its at 90mins. Can this possibly be changed and/or removed?
  • If possible, is there also an option to 'lock' a tuner from the Premiere? I have other Premieres in my setup so totally dedicating a tuner is a viable option in order to maybe avoid the timeout issue.

HDMI splitter for my Tivo Roamio?

TiVoCommunity Forum Recent Threads - Sat, 01/25/2014 - 16:03
I have the new Roamio (4 tuner). I'm trying to hookup up my blu-ray player also. I can't find a HDMI splitter that will work with the Roamio. Can anyone recommend one that will work?

Navigation frustrations

TiVoCommunity Forum Recent Threads - Sat, 01/25/2014 - 14:25
I'm getting a little frustrated with the navigation on my new Roamio. Hopefully I'm just missing something...

When I'm watching a recording and accidentally hit the TiVo menu button - the recording continues in the small window while the TiVo menu pops up. Is there a quick way to clear the menu and resume the recording? Right now I'm going back to my recordings and selecting the show again. It's pretty inconvenient given how frequently we accidentally hit the TiVo button now that it's RF and doesn't require line of sight to the box.

Would love a similar feature for Netflix....but I doubt that exists. :(

Is there a way to get back to what I'm watching quickly? Thanks!

Should I upgrade?

TiVoCommunity Forum Recent Threads - Sat, 01/25/2014 - 14:18
I am thinking about upgrading from a TiVo Elite (TiVo Premiere XL4). However, I am not sure I can justify the upgrade (even though I want too)

Here is what I know is different:
  1. Faster - My current TiVo seems a little slow, but doesn't bug me too often
  2. Stream - I don't have an iPad
  3. More Space - Don't think I have ever used more than 60%
  4. More Tuners - it happens but is rare I use all 4 tuners

I do have a mini and I love it.

I would get a Pro. I figure I can sell my current TiVo (has a lifetime) and with that the new TiVo would cost me about $500.

What am I missing? How can I justify this? HELP!
