It’s no surprise TiVo fans love TV, but do they love it enough to watch it for 87 hours straight? This week at the Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas we have three contestants attempting to break the Guinness World Record for binge-viewing! Day one has passed and the contestants are all doing great! Here is a recap of the first 24 hours.

Do non-Netflix apps crash Roamios?

TiVoCommunity Forum Recent Threads - Wed, 01/08/2014 - 14:45
I see that there are still issues with the Netflix app crashing Roamios. Since I bought a Tivo to be a reliable tool for recording TV shows, this means I can't use the Netflix app. I'm curious if the crashes occur with the other Roamio applications. Especially Spotify's and Amazon's apps.

My Two Favorite Gadget Accessories at CES

Zatz Not Funny! - Wed, 01/08/2014 - 14:20

Going to ShowStoppers at CES is a bit like attending a carnival. The press event has gadget makers hawking their wares alongside display after display of brightly colored signage and geeky gear. It’s always tough to pick out the useful demos from the ones that only attract your eye because they’re shiny (more on that [...]

Netflix Buffering since Christmas on THD?

TiVoCommunity Forum Recent Threads - Wed, 01/08/2014 - 13:31
Ever since the holidays, my THD has had lots of buffering issues, while no such problem has been occurring on my Premiere box.

It only happens during primetime, similar to when the app was released years ago. I'm thinking either the total netflix load has increased due to holiday electronics or perhaps enough THDs have been resold (in lieu of Roamios) that more folks are connecting using the old version of the app.

Netflix logged my issue, but only suggested the normal rebooting processes to clear up local network connectivity.

Is anyone else experiencing this with their older boxes?

Netflix giving me SD when HD is available

TiVoCommunity Forum Recent Threads - Wed, 01/08/2014 - 13:22
I have a Roamio Pro connected via a LAN cable directly to my network. My network speed is regularly about 22 mpbs (I think that could be called "fast"). I've been watching a TV show on Netflix streaming that IS available in HD. When I watch between the hours of 8 and 11pm, I'm lucky if I ever see HD even for a minute--most of the time, it doesn't get past 380 SD, and sometimes it's lower. I've been able to see HD for this show and other Netflix streaming at other hours of the day.

I've even ran speed tests on my network access WHILE I'm watching an episode in SD, and it still says my network access speed is over 20 mbps.

So I'm wondering...is this a general Netflix thing, where they can't handle HD speeds during prime time because they're overloaded? It doesn't appear to be my ISP choking down my speed for any reason (which they aren't supposed to be doing). And since I can get HD at other times, it doesn't sound like it could be my TiVo/network configuration.

Does anyone else experience this? I'm in the Washington, DC market, using Comcast, if that's significant.

Any ideas on what I can do? Thanks.

P.S. -- I've never had the reboot issue, which seems to be the main subject of other Netflix threads here.

Archer - Season 5 (spoilers?)

For anyone who enjoys the show "Archer", I read an interview with Matt Thompson, Executive Producer of "Archer" on significant changes to the storyline for season 5.

I find it hard to believe the changes mentioned are really going to happen, but spoiler alert anyway.

So we finally get a little backstory but as it ends up, we still really don't have much information about what happened to Coulson. We do know he wasn't really in Tahiti, which was really just them messing with his brain to help him forget all the nasty surgeries that they performed on him. So why really was he so important that they needed to rebuild(?) him?

It was interesting and entertaining though. I liked how Skye made a lot of progress on the outside but it was really pretty predictable that May wanted to get her off the plane based on the wording.

Roamio Drive Upgrade

TiVoCommunity Forum Recent Threads - Wed, 01/08/2014 - 09:57
I currently have two premieres I use with OTA. I just called Tivo and received the 99$ upgrade on one of them. My plan is to sell it on ebay and buy the Roamio base model for OTA, upgrade the hard drive and buy and mini to replace the second premiere. In theory my monthly payment should go down. Currently 14.99 + 12.99 vs 14.99 + 5.99. My question is what hard drives work in the roamio? Is there a list of verified ones? Only up to 3 gb? I have the 1TB DVR expander now. So I could have 4 TB total on the new roamio and share everything with the mini?
Thanks

Anyone upgrade from a Premiere

Has one else done this? Are you glad you did the upgrade?

4-tuner Premiere lifetimes for $99

I see that some have mentioned getting $99 lifetime offers for 2-tuner Premieres when upgrading to a Roamio.

I have a 4-tuner Premiere on a monthly basis. Was also thinking of getting a Roamio. Anybody get the $99 lifetime offer for a 4-tuner Premiere when getting a Roamio? Just wondering if this is an option.

Well damn, somehow my recording got messed up. I had set it to record at 9:00 and sat down about 9:30 to watch but it only recorded the first 15 minutes, which included the opening with Olyphant and Goggins talking about Leonard, which was cool. And then the next 10 minutes or so and that's it. I recorded the repeat showing later last night but haven't had a chance to watch it yet.

I love the Dewey character. The scene with him in the pool was great.

The Assets

I didn't see any advertisements for this show so it kind of snuck up on me. I don't even recall how I heard about it. It's on Thursday nights on ABC. It's kind of like The Americans, but from our point of view regarding the Cold War. I acquired the first episode via torrents and set up a series recording on my HTPC. If you like espionage thrillers this may be in your wheelhouse.

Tivo Suggestions always always selects i480 programing

TiVoCommunity Forum Recent Threads - Wed, 01/08/2014 - 06:47
I like Tivo suggestions, its fun because it picks programming that I would not considered watching, or programming I would record if I had found it among 500+ channels.

What bothers me is that Tivo Suggestions always picks i480 channels rather than HDTV channels.

Is there any where to set Tivo suggestions to pick HTDV programming over i480 programming. On my HDTV, i480 programming looks like a 25 year old VHS tape that been watched too much.

thanks.

Issue streaming 720p?

TiVoCommunity Forum Recent Threads - Wed, 01/08/2014 - 01:40
I am a FiOS customer and am unable to stream our local sports network (Root Sports) in HD. I noticed they broadcast in 720p and am wondering if that could be an issue since the error message I receive mentions video quality. I can stream their SD channel (although it looks horrible) and other 1020i and p channels stream fine.

Any thoughts?
