Anyone upgrade from a Premiere

TiVoCommunity Forum Recent Threads - Wed, 01/08/2014 - 08:31
I have 2 Premieres in the house, and am debating getting a base Roamio and TiVo mini to replace them.

Has one else done this? Are you glad you did the upgrade?

4-tuner Premiere lifetimes for $99

I see that some have mentioned getting $99 lifetime offers for 2-tuner Premieres when upgrading to a Roamio.

I have a 4-tuner Premiere on a monthly basis. Was also thinking of getting a Roamio. Anybody get the $99 lifetime offer for a 4-tuner Premiere when getting a Roamio? Just wondering if this is an option.

Well damn, somehow my recording got messed up. I had set it to record at 9:00 and sat down about 9:30 to watch but it only recorded the first 15 minutes, which included the opening with Olyphant and Goggins talking about Leonard, which was cool. And then the next 10 minutes or so and that's it. I recorded the repeat showing later last night but haven't had a chance to watch it yet.

I love the Dewey character. The scene with him in the pool was great.

I didn't see any advertisements for this show so it kind of snuck up on me. I don't even recall how I heard about it. It's on Thursday nights on ABC. It's kind of like The Americans, but from our point of view regarding the Cold War. I acquired the first episode via torrents and set up a series recording on my HTPC. If you like espionage thrillers this may be in your wheelhouse.

Tivo Suggestions always always selects i480 programing

TiVoCommunity Forum Recent Threads - Wed, 01/08/2014 - 06:47
I like Tivo suggestions, its fun because it picks programming that I would not considered watching, or programming I would record if I had found it among 500+ channels.

What bothers me is that Tivo Suggestions always picks i480 channels rather than HDTV channels.

Is there any where to set Tivo suggestions to pick HTDV programming over i480 programming. On my HDTV, i480 programming looks like a 25 year old VHS tape that been watched too much.

thanks.

Issue streaming 720p?

TiVoCommunity Forum Recent Threads - Wed, 01/08/2014 - 01:40
I am a FiOS customer and am unable to stream our local sports network (Root Sports) in HD. I noticed they broadcast in 720p and am wondering if that could be an issue since the error message I receive mentions video quality. I can stream their SD channel (although it looks horrible) and other 1020i and p channels stream fine.

Any thoughts?

Screen flashing after several mo. usage when connected to Sony receiver

TiVoCommunity Forum Recent Threads - Tue, 01/07/2014 - 20:22
Hello,

I have had a Roamio and Roamio Pro for several months now. Both TiVos are connected to one (ea.) of the two Sony STR-DN1000 receivers I have. When I connected the Pro (Xfinity Cable) to the receiver after a few days I received some type of HDMI protected output error and I couldn't get it to go away, even after changing all the settings on TiVo and Receiver, Cables, etc. With this receiver/TiVo/TV combo, I was able to connect the TiVo directly to the TV and run the audio out of the TV to the receiver to work around the issue. No more problems with the Roamio Pro.

One the Roamio, it is connected to another DN1000 receiver and then a Mitsu projector. I am using it with OTA antenna, no Xfinity cable on this TiVo. I never had any issues with this setup until today. Now the screen constantly flashes (green) and then back to the TiVo screen every 2-3 seconds. Here is what I've tried to resolve the issue and come to the resolution that it is some kind of TiVo and Sony DN1000 receiver compatibility issue. What is strange is that it has worked with no issues for several months and now the issue won't go away. Here's what I've done:
  • Modified the Display Resolution Settings on the TiVo
  • Switched out the HDMI input channel from 1 to 2 on the receiver
  • Switched out HDMI cables
  • Played a DVD on HDMI input 1 and 2 (no issues)
  • Connected the TiVo directly to the projector HDMI input (no issues)
  • Adjusted the receiver HDMI setting from Auto to Direct (no change)

The issue exists when connecting the TiVo to the projector via the Sony Receiver. Regardless or input, cables, or settings. Any ideas or suggestions before I have to resort to buying a new receiver would be appreciated. The workaround isn't an option for this setup. Thanks in advance.

Garmin Unveils HD Dash Cam

Zatz Not Funny! - Tue, 01/07/2014 - 19:18

Industry analyst Ross Rubin knows of my interest in dash cams and turned me onto Garmin’s CES news, as the GPS manufacturer enter this space with two models — the Dash Cam 10 and 20. They run $220 and $250, respectively, and will ship by the end of the month with the only difference being [...]

MyWayTV Mates Roku Streaming Stick With Antenna

First announced at CES 2013 as a sleek looking Terk antenna paired with a Roku Streaming Stick, the now named MyWayTV has been reintroduced in a more frumpy form with an anticipated Spring 2014 ship date. The Following - Season 2

How is it that search doesn't bring back any threads on The Following on Fox?

I didn't watch this live, but had saved up the series and caught up over a bunch of flights the last couple of months. I liked it a lot, even though it lost some steam toward the end, and will definitely tune in for season 2, but how will they get by without Joe?

Premiere Units Hang When Changing Channels On Non-watched Tuners!!!

TiVoCommunity Forum Recent Threads - Tue, 01/07/2014 - 15:11
I have had issues with my Premiere units.
When background tuners have to change channels on more than one tuner (while I watch live tv) the Tivo becomes unresponsive to the remote. It doesn't happen when I am watching a recorded program.
try setting up multiple recordings to happen simultaneously while watching live TV. AND, make sure that none of the new shows are on channels that the Tivo is currently set to.
My display hangs with the remote unresponsive, ESPECIALLY when I respond to clear the channel change warning message on the screen.
Then a power-off reboot is needed....

877-761-5015 is the Comcast number you need to move a cablecard between Tivos

TiVoCommunity Forum Recent Threads - Tue, 01/07/2014 - 14:59
TL;DR - if you are upgrading from TivoHD or Premiere to Roamio, you need to move your cable card to the new device, and then call the number in the subject line, press 3, and give them the CableCard ID, Host ID and Data ID that you see on the grey "This screen is displayed on behalf of your cable provider" page for channels you're not getting.

I stupidly decided to follow Comcast's plan rather than come here first, and spent a total of four days getting nowhere, ending with a scheduled truck roll for two days in the future. Under a friend's advice, I googled for Comcast cablecard support, and found several numbers... but only one that worked.

If you call 1-800-COMCAST, they will have no idea how to help you, they will transfer you to DTA activation who have no idea how to spell Tivo, or they will put you in a queue that takes forever and gives you a busy signal.

Comcast used to have a number that was for CableCard exclusively, but it now is only for box activations.

When you call the 877 number in the subject line, you're connected with Comcast's national support center in Denver. According to the tech I spoke to, they "have access to tools that no one else has" and if the truck had actually come, "they'd have just called us anyway."

What my problem was was that no one had entered all three of the values for my cablecard. In order for your premium channels to be valid on the card, Comcast has to know:
  1. The CableCardID
  2. The HostID (this is your Tivo's identifier)
  3. The "Data" value (which they will call the Data ID)
When you move the CableCard to a new Host, obviously, you have a new Host value. Evidently the Data value is derived from the combination.

Once my contact at the Denver center had all three of these values from my Tivo's "on behalf of" screen, it was literally sixty seconds and my premiums were back on. It is beyond me why this is still so difficult in 2014.

MoCA Issue (FiOS)

TiVoCommunity Forum Recent Threads - Tue, 01/07/2014 - 14:22
I'll try to make this short, but...

I just installed a POE filter between the Verizon ONT and a 1:4 splitter. The four splits go to:
  1. Verizon MI454WR Router
  2. Actiontec MoCA Bridge > Ethernet Switch > Roamio
  3. Actiontec MoCA Bridge > TiVo HD
  4. 1:3 splitter with two connections:
    1. TiVo HD Cable Input
    2. Actiontec MR454WR setup as a MoCA bridge networked to TiVo HD Ethernet port
    3. Unterminated Splitter output

The router and two MoCA bridges work fine, but the MR454WR that is setup as a bridge doesn't see the rest of the network. Here are my suspicions:
  • The MR454WR is bricked (although it worked before adding the POE filter)
  • The POE filter is somehow interfering with the MR454WR in bridge mode that for some reason doesn't interfere with the standard bridges
  • The unterminated splitter output is causing a problem that wasn't apparent prior to adding the POE filter

I am definitely seeing improved network performance on the nodes that are working, so I'd like to keep the POE filter. I'd also like to save the $49 required to purchase a new standard MoCA bridge (although I could probably offset that by selling the MR454WR on EBay assuming it's not bricked).

I reset the MR454WR to factory defaults and reconfigured it for bridge mode by setting a static IP Address, turning off WiFi (although I would like to use it as a range extender), and turning off DHCP. But when I went to disable the Broadband Coax network connection, it rebooted the router and I was no longer able to connect to it.

My next step is to remove the POE filter just to see if I can get the MR454WR working again, but does anyone have any other suggestions?

Removing FIOS router for my own Moca question

TiVoCommunity Forum Recent Threads - Tue, 01/07/2014 - 14:03
I have Fios right now. I have a Roamio Pro and two TiVo Mini's connected via Moca. I currently use the Verizon router. I want to get rid of it and use my own Asus router. If I call Verizon to have them change my ONT's connection to the router from coax to ethernet will I then loose my Moca network? I assume I will. I will also need to have Verizon break my routers DHCP lease to allow the use of my Asus router. If that is the case, can't I just run an ethernet cable to my roamio and plug that into my Asus router to create a new Moca network? Is there any other equipment that I would need? Is this correct or am I missing something?

Sony announces cloud-based TV service with live TV, DVR, and video on demand

TiVoCommunity Forum Recent Threads - Tue, 01/07/2014 - 13:47
I wanted to bring this into a separate conversation - I think it makes sense to discuss this and consider the technology / competition.

http://www.theverge.com/2014/1/7/528...and/in/5046387

Quote: We were expecting Sony to launch something like PlayStation Now, which is cloud-based streaming for games. But Sony seems to have larger ambitions, launching a TV service that will provide live television, video on demand, and even DVR in the cloud. It will offer universal search "across live and on-demand video content" — letting you just keep your content in Sony's cloud and use it across all of your Sony gadgets — in fact, the company says it will work on 70 million Sony devices. That presumably includes the PS4, PS3, Vita, smart TVs, and Android devices. It's not clear at all what Sony means by "live TV" yet — building an all-in-one service like this is fraught with complications with studios, cable companies, and has been a big target for lawsuits. Any thoughts on the technology? Do you think Sony has the muscle with MSO's to develop an IP delivery model for Live TV? Do you think Microsoft will be following with similar tech on the Xbox One?

Do you think this is a threat to TiVo? Any other random thoughts?
