Roamio, TWC and the Adapter - not playing nice

TiVoCommunity Forum Recent Threads - Fri, 12/27/2013 - 15:39
I cannot be the ONLY person on planet Earth...but here goes.

Upgraded to Roamio. Attached adapter (Motorola - firmware updated yadayada) and I get the SDV channels. Then...I leave a SDV channel on a tuner (either taping while I am out or just leave it on before bed) and I wake up and "Tuning Adapter Missing) and the adapter is blinking. Third adapter btw. So basically the adapter keeps failing and the tivo sees the adapter is missing so it stops everything and no longer records - it just stays on the missing screen until I tune back into the SDV channel and the adapter re-sets. I can be watching an SDV channel and the same thing happens - the missing adapter error pops up and I lose all SDV signals (and the adapter is blinking).

I realize that the SDV channel times out -- but that shouldn't crash the adapter. I just wish an angel would hear my cry for help. Because TWC does NOT understand my problem and TIVO suggested I give up.

TWC blames Tivo. Tivo blames TWC. I have loved Tivo my whole life but the end is near. Please tell me I am NOT alone. It would make the pain easier.

Alert: Saturday Night Live in the '80s: Lost and Found, 12/28

This is a retrospective of SNL in the '80's. I saw it last time it was on and it was very interesting. If you remember, the '80's were a big transition time for SNL. The old cast was replaced and the show was at risk of cancellation. Eventually, it found its footing and went on to be a success once again. If you're a fan of the show, don't miss this.

Series 3 audio dropouts

TiVoCommunity Forum Recent Threads - Fri, 12/27/2013 - 15:02
Hi all,

I'm a new customer of TWC using dual cable cards on my Series 3 HD.

I've been troubled by audio dropouts from day one. I've read a number of threads that blame this on the Series 3's inability to handle a hot signal. Many of my channels read 100/36 db, and they definitely show huge numbers of uncorrected RS errors when this is the case.

Using the wisdom of the masses, I tried to fix this problem by dropping in some attenuation. This really did help quite a bit. My audio dropouts have nearly disappeared, but in order to make that problem go away, I sometimes drive the signal down low enough so that I lose channels completely, or get frequent pixelation errors.

I don't want to fight this problem forever, so I opened a case with Tivo support, suggesting that I would be happy to buy a new box without this problem if they were willing to transfer my lifetime service.

Of course, they were not willing to do so, and blamed the problem on TWC.

So I'm not sure what to do about all this. But it raises a number of questions.

1) Tivo support guy says "Whereas the signal does seem good (100 is a bit too high),". Is 100 really too high? Can a cable signal be too high, and if so, how does one actually verify this?

2) Tivo support guy says "those RS values should be as close to 0 as possible. With that type of feedback, it looks like there may be too much noise on the line". Yes, I know those values should be close to 0. Is this a symptom of the Tivo Series 3 HD problem with hot signals? How can I tell if there is actually noise on the line? Can TWC test this? Can I test it somehow?

3) Tivo support guy says "or quite possibly an issue with the CableCARD". I see basically the identical behavior on both Cable Cards. It doesn't seem likely that there is a problem with both cards. Any way to test this?

I don't mind sitting in the middle of a finger-pointing war between TWC and Tivo, if there is some way to drive it to conclusion. But I am afraid right now I don't have that possibility. If I get TWC to make a service call, I think they are just going to come out and say everything is good, and that my problems are all related to Tivo. If I do have a service call, I need to know what to do to get useful data out of it.

Has Tivo ever actually admitted that this problem exists? If not, is it a real problem, or just an urban legend?

One final note: Changing the settings for dolby output/PCM output has no effect on the problem.

MLB.TV Not Supported on Roamio!

TiVoCommunity Forum Recent Threads - Fri, 12/27/2013 - 13:42
I recently decided to bite the bullet and upgrade from a practically new Premiere 4 to a Roamio Plus. Today I thought I'd watch an archived baseball game using the MLB.TV app. It didn't work. Well, after 2 calls to TiVo and one to MLB.TV I found out that MLB.TV is not supported on the Roamio (even though it is listed as a video provider in settings/channels). It is supported on the Premieres but not the Roamios! I just can't believe that I spent the money on the Roamio and lost some functionality. The second TiVo rep I spoke to told me she would submit a feature request to have this added but could give me no assurances that this would happen any time soon. If there are any other baseball fans out there, please call TiVo and request that they add MLB.TV functionality to the Roamio line.

OTA 101 - Can I use rabbit ears for the Roamio? Or do I need an HD antenna?

TiVoCommunity Forum Recent Threads - Fri, 12/27/2013 - 13:26
Hooking up my Roamio shortly, and plan on using just the OTA (no cable). Can I just hook up a spare set of rabbit ears to it? Or do I need a HD antenna?

Roamio Plus, Mini, and MoCa

TiVoCommunity Forum Recent Threads - Fri, 12/27/2013 - 12:16
Hey all --- was a loyal Tivo user ten years ago, but left when I went HDTV. Defended Comcast's service and hardware for years online, finally gave up on the hardware and got my Roamio Plus and three Minis last night.

Roamio Plus box is in my family room, directly above my wired/wireless router in my LL. Tried to connect via Moca to the internet with no luck, wireless worked fine. Setup was smooth, put the first Mini in my BR, connected the coax and got nada for over an hour. No connection.

Thought I might be investing in some powerline adapters, but now think I may just need to wait and see if the Mini eventually sees the Roamio? FYI, had a Comcast Multi-room in the fam room previously, it was connected to the internet and it connected to a satellite box in my BR just fine. Also --- have a guestroom with no coax connection, possible to use powerline ethernet in that room and MoCa everywhere else? Roamio seems to only do one type of connection at a time...

Wait to see if the MoCa connection in my BR takes? Sorry if this has already been talked to death, I've looked and not quite seen this scenario, my knowledge of networking is at least ten years out of date.

TiVo Glo Remote with 40" Vizio 2.1 Sound Bar (SB4021E-B0) with wireless sub

TiVoCommunity Forum Recent Threads - Fri, 12/27/2013 - 10:28
Can anyone please confirm that the new TiVo Glo Learning Remote (tivo.com/shop/detail/tivo-glo-remote) will learn to control the sound level on a particular 40" Vizio 2.1 Sound Bar (SB4021E-B0) with a wireless subwoofer (amzn.com/B00BHAQ2KO)? I've searched the internet AND this forum, and I can't find confirmation of this. If it works, obviously I'll buy a new remote for the TiVo, but if not, this sound bar is going back to the retailer. I don't want to drop $30 on a new remote for no reason, and I'm not using multiple remotes just to control sound. Already have too many.

So, just to review, please let me know if you have successfully programmed a TiVo Glo Learning Remote to control a Vizio SB4021E-B0 sound bar.

Thanks in advance!

TiVo Desktop Issue - TiVo Server Service Process has Stopped Working

TiVoCommunity Forum Recent Threads - Fri, 12/27/2013 - 10:05

I recently bought a new desktop computer running Windows 7. I repurchased from TiVo, TiVo Desktop 2.8.3 and installed it on the new desktop computer. Now, several times a day, the error message, shown in that attached word document, appears and the TiVo Server stops working and I am unable to download shows from my TiVo boxes.

I have uninstalled and reinstalled TiVo Desktop 2.8.3 several times and it does not solve the issue.

I did not have this issue with my older Windows 7 desktop PC running an earlier version of TiVo Desktop.

Please help me to figure out how to resolve this.

I'm disappointing this still isnt working on roamio. I'm wondering, how many other web series don't work with roamio that worked with earlier tivo's.

I'm catching up on Dr Who here

TiVoCommunity Forum Recent Threads - Fri, 12/27/2013 - 08:31
Just watched "Stolen Earth" and had to go to bed last night cuz work today, but dang good stuff :)

I'll tell you what, the parallel universe hopping and the Rose Tyler thing sure does make me think of and greatly miss Fringe.

Not sure why I didn't catch up sooner on this, but just so much TV and so little time :)

Kids are starting to get interested, wife keeps saying she is so lost, I don't think she really wants to get it ;)

Wireless Headphones with a Roamio

TiVoCommunity Forum Recent Threads - Fri, 12/27/2013 - 08:12
I used to use a pair of Sony wireless headphones with my old Premiere. I had to pull the red and white RCA cables out of the Premiere and plug in the headphones when I wanted to use them. It wasn't the most elegant solution but it worked.

I got a new Roamio for Christmas and I have no place to plug the headphones in. Any suggestions on how I can use wireless headphones?

I thought this series was really good.

So in this fictional version, Bugsy Siegel is gunned down by Teague, the rogue cop. I am pretty sure, in reality, he's gunned down on orders from Myer Lansky and the NY crew, because of all the money he owed them from building the Las Vegas casino.

The (not so) silent majority - Happy with TiVo

TiVoCommunity Forum Recent Threads - Fri, 12/27/2013 - 06:44
As we all typically post when we have an issue - and say nothing when everything works, I thought it might be worthwhile to say "I'm happy with TiVo."

In fact, *very* happy.

I just replaced 3 cable cards (in Premieres) with Minis. That will save me $45/month in outlet and cable card fees. WIN!

Plus I can sell the lifetime Premiere boxes for less than the cost of the lifetime Minis. WIN!

PLUS, I now get a single "Now Playing" list and a single Season Pass and a single To Do list. WIN!

So, better TV experience, money in my pocket and lower monthly cable bills.

...and I haven't even touched streaming and portability.

Anybody else really glad they have TiVo?

Invisioneer Continues Qplay Rebrand (New Details)

Zatz Not Funny! - Fri, 12/27/2013 - 06:16

After breaking news that TiVo’s co-founders have reunited to develope another (mini) set-top, it appears that the company rebrand has accelerated… as Invisioneer transforms into Qplay right before our eyes (and clearly without a private staging website). Our initial assumptions, based on limited site text and LinkedIn profiles, appears spot on. From Qplay’s new description: For [...]

Roamio-->Premiere streaming question

TiVoCommunity Forum Recent Threads - Fri, 12/27/2013 - 01:42
We have decided we want TiVo in a second room an I am exploring my options.

We currently have a TiVo Premiere (TCD746320- launch model, plain vanilla, two tuners, ethernet, no internal wifi).

Unless I am very much mistaken, I cannot use the TiVo Mini with this model-- do I have that correct?

Short of that, what I would like to do is buy a Roamio as my new main unit, then take the Premiere into the bedroom and use that the same way I would use a mini. I wanted to confirm what I could and couldn't do though-- assuming I have a moca or wired ethernet connection, can I *stream* to that unit? Can I copy shows from one to the other? My hope is both, I'm pretty sure I can copy, but I am having a tough time getting a definitive answer on streaming.

I ask for a couple of reasons. Firstly, if I cannot stream, I'll likely just connect the DVRs via Wireless-N rather than MOCA. Secondly, my preference is to get a Roamio Plus, but if I cannot stream to the premiere, I may get an entry level roamio (on sale at amazon now for $150) and a TiVo mini to go with it.

Thanks in advance for any help =)

Downloading from Tivo iPad app

TiVoCommunity Forum Recent Threads - Thu, 12/26/2013 - 22:52
It's absolutely ridiculous that Tivo has not upgraded the iPad app to allow for downloading shows in the background. This has been around for a while now and fairly easy to implement. C'mon Tivo.

Anyone know why Tekzilla/HD Nation no longer downloads on the Premiere even though I have a season pass? I get the applebyte and various other podcasts. I can force a manual d/l but not as a season pass.

Roamio & Mini

TiVoCommunity Forum Recent Threads - Thu, 12/26/2013 - 20:14
Good evening!

I just talked with support and am highly confused on what I need. First, when I bought the Roamio support said the Roamio would work with the mini via MoCA. However, they didn't really mention that it needed a bridge (unlike the big brothers).

Long story short I have a mini which can't connect using MoCA. So, I was going to get a Moca bridge. Support however said that I would need two MoCA adapters. One to connect to my router and the other to connect to my Mini? From the site (option 3) it makes it appear that I would only need one to build that bridge to the internet.

Also Option 2 is how I have things setup right now. My Roamio has an ethernet connection and Coaxial for cable. The diagram should mention Roamio plus and above. .
