I hope this thread is not against the rules and I hope it generates some interest. I'd like to use it to document, without spoilers but with show descriptions stuff that's currently on the UK (At any given moment). There's so much good stuff that never reaches here.
My list could be endless but what I've recently watched
* Vera (Season 3): Grumpy northern detective, similarities to Morse
* The new season of Whitechapel
* What Remains: A 4 part mystery, not as good but similar to Broadchurch)
* Moone Boy, a fantastic, light hearted 30 min comedy starring Chris O'Dowd of IT Crowd fame, though it's really about the boy.
* New Tricks: It's in it's last season and really not that good anymore
* Good Cop, a dark cop-gone-bad show starring Warren Brown from Luther
* Life of Crime, about a policewoman at 3 points in her career over 20 or so years
* Scott and Bailey (season 3 I think). 2 female detectives
As you can see I prefer cop/drame to comedies but they are all good shows.
I have a series 3HD with a working Comcast cable card that I would like to put into a new premier xl. Both tivos are on the same TiVo account. Can I do this or do I have to swap the card with Comcast and activate the new card?
Will moca pass through a tuning adapter?
I live in Raleigh, NC and Time Warner Cable seems to have copy protection turned on at times for a channel that is available OTA. I record Jimmy Kimmel Live, Nightline, and Katie from 11:33 p.m. to 2:05 a.m. from our local ABC affiliate, WTVD HD, from the cable box. OTA it is 11.1, but from the Time Warner Cable box it is 1111. I can record these programs OK, but when Katie ends, Who Wants to Be a Millionaire comes on, and my Pioneer DVR pauses recording, saying the show is copy-protected. Fortunately I am not interested in that show anyway, it's just that I catch the first few minutes of it at the end of recording the earlier shows. I am not even trying to record the HDMI output, since my Pioneer DVR does not support it; I am recording the output of the cable box to my Pioneer DVR using composite cables, and yet I am seeing copy protection issues with two OTA channels.
I do not currently use Tivo but I thought this would be the best place to ask about this because Tivo users will certainly have the most experience with copy protection. I read somewhere that copy protection (or maybe it is CCI?) is not allowed on OTA stations, even if those stations are rebroadcast on cable.
The same thing happens when our local MeTV affiliate, OTA 50.2 (Time Warner Cable 151) airs The Dick Van Dyke Show. Suddenly the copy protection (or CCI, or whatever it is) is turned on. This only happens when I try to record from the cable box. If I use my Magnavox recorder which has a digital tuner and can tune the channels directly, it does not have a problem with copy protection.
Still, my understanding is that the cable companies are not allowed to restrict copying on programs that air on channels that are available OTA, even when they are rebroadcast on cable. Note that this only happens when I try to record from the Cisco cable boxes. For some reason there is no copy protection on the Scientific Atlanta cable boxes, even though Cisco took over Scientific Atlanta. I am guessing it is because the Scientific Atlanta boxes are older and maybe don't have the firmware needed to support copy protection? Since the copy protection does not occur when using my Magnavox DVR's digital tuner, and it does not occur with the Scientific Atlanta cable boxes, it appears to only be an issue for the Cisco cable boxes, and right now it is only for a few programs on the ABC affiliate channel and the MeTV affiliate channel, but I am worried this is going to expand.
Can I file a complaint against Time Warner Cable with the FCC, and if so, how do I do that? There is no point in complaining to TWC--I could not even get them to fix issues I had with my cable signal in the past. My complaints about that went nowhere and I kept calling until a supervisor told me it would be better if I hired an electrician to fix the signal problem. If they are non-responsive to signal problem reports, they certainly are not going to be responsive to my complaints about the copy protection on the OTA channels.
I recently replaced three Series 3 boxes with a Roamio Pro and two Minis. Since I pad all of my recordings, I tend to utilize more tuners than most people. I just checked the "To Do" List", and it looks like my machine will be using 5 tuners at once tonight. During this time, I won't even be able to stream live TV to one of the Minis. I guess six tuners isn't as many as I first thought. :)
Includes the peanut remote, power and hdmi cables it came with, as well as the original 320 GB drive it came with which you can keep as a backup.
$350 or best offer
(sorry I tried to update the thread title but it didn't work so I made a new thread)
Season 2 thread. If there is enough interest, please feel free to start weekly threads and we can let this one die.
I'm still liking this show a lot.
Juliet is my favorite character. She's just got so many layers. I love to hate her, but I also actually like here sometimes, too. And she did not disappoint this ep.
Not crazy about the flashbacks/dreams. We already know the back story of Rayna and Deacon so I'm not sure what the point was of us seeing Rayna seeing that while she was in the coma? But at least she's awake now and we don't have to deal with an amnesia storyline.
Scarlett and Gunner are my least favorite storyline still, but not hating them as much as I did last season.
Alright, so I am a bit frustrated at Tivo here. Let me know if you think I am out of place in my thinking.
First off, I have a TivoHD and I now can't get some channels on Fios due to the MPEG4 changes. The first part of my frustration with Tivo comes with the fact that the TivoHD supports MPEG4 (as shown by the Australian Tivo and Netflix), so this is pure "planned obsolescence." It had been known for years that the cable companies were going to move to MPEG4.
That said, I called up Tivo a week ago and they offer me a deal that was apparently offered a while back. $50 off a Premiere 4 and $200 off lifetime service for it ($498 total). This is of course not a deal, since MSD wise I already get $100 off and the box is easily found at >$80 off. More specifically, an example would be Tivo selling them through Woot for $149 with an included Stream. With MSD that would be $548 total with the included stream. So really, Tivo wasn't offering me anything special (and in some ways a worse deal). The deal offer gets more offensive when you think about the fact that the Premiere is now an obsolete product to Tivo. They are trying to get me to spend $500 on an outdated product, that I have no idea if the core functionality will be broken tomorrow on.
Now, I fully believe that they should offer me something special. They chose to make the box obsolete ahead of its "lifetime." Really, I think I should get a free lifetime on the replacement box as a consolation for the fact that they "broke" it intentionally. (Maybe a bit harsh in words, but they could have easily provided the functionality.)
So I call them back today. I explain how I feel that they have wronged me by knowingly not implementing something they new would be used in the near future. Then I said that I don't want an already out of date box (Premiere). Could they just provide the $200 discount on a box that I am less likely to fall prey to the same issues in the next couple of years (Roamio)? After waiting for 15 or so minutes on the phone for the rep to talk to a supervisor. The answer is NO (no offer of any kind). Basically, Tivo's failure is my loss. I guess I didn't expect much, but this new Tivo would be my 5th. I didn't think I was asking for too much.
Sad thing is I am perfectly happy with my TivoHD, I don't need to upgrade. However, if I am forced to upgrade, I am not going to spend my money on something that is already out of date.
Done. Alright, frustration vented.
Another US ripoff of a UK series ("The Syndicate").
Apparently we're all still too stupid to understand what a "syndicate" is vs. a "lottery pool."
They work at a gas station now, not a grocery store. But the gas station is going to get sold to a chain, just like the grocery store was. Pitiful they can't even be bothered to come up with their own ideas. Even the characters are the same... a set of brothers (even in the same situations), an overweight woman... blah blah blah blah.
Season pass deleted.
If you think you might like the story, go get the UK version. History says that if this even makes it to the season finale without being canceled, the UK version will still be better.
As Breaking Bad draws to a close, the Emmy award winning series that attributes its longevity to Netflix, is auctioning off over 200 props shown onscreen. Amongst the Sony Pictures memorabilia are Walt’s iconic tighty-whiteys, haz-mat suit, and Pontiac Aztek - that’s sold as is, and will require a flat bed to get home. I imagine the relatively [...]

I couldn't stop watching it. I just finished all 4 seasons. 5th and 6th coming in the future. It is a very intense can't stop watching it show. Great characters. IT is more of a rated-R movie than a watered down glossy network tv show.
French show. French police. French Law system. Subtitles. Don't let that stop you.
(I usually don't watch the previews, so this may not be a new thing)
Wow.. I was so shocked to hear that. The networks are now embracing DVR. I guess they are giving up.
Or it could be that NBC is owned by Comcast, which sells DVR service.
Took the second Multi stream cablecard from the Series 3 and put it in the XL4. I was getting ready to call Comcast to get the card paired when I went to the XL4 and found all the channels active. Not just the over the air ABC, NBC, etc, but other HD channels on the extended tier. We have no pay channels like HBO or Showtime. Everything available on the Series 3 is available on the XL4 with out contacting Comcast. I also have access to Xfininty on demand. Any guesses on who this is working?
I have a Roamio base model and three TVs - 1 TV has only coax running to it, the others have direct ethernet but no Coax. The coax has access to my router so I would like to do the following:
Direct connect my roamio to the network.
Use the coax only TV to do EoC (ethernet over coax) and buy a Tivo mini
Will the network recognize the mini even though it is over coax? What if I only had that TV using MoCa and the rest on direct connect via Cat5? Thanks for advice.
I have a unique setup and bought the base model Roamio for OTA capability (no cable). I bought HDMI extenders over CAT5 and assumed it would work (works on other devices so I know the cables are working). When I connect the roamio I get nothing but I know that my TV is receiving a signal because the HDMI input is highlighted. I assume that the handshake between the roamio and HDMI extenders not working? Tech support was useless - they just said we do not support HDMI extenders. I refuse to go composite to cat5 due to poor resolution so this is my only logical option. Any advice?
Still one of the funniest shows on TV. Laughed harder for more scenes than probably every other new sitcom put together.
Jay & Manny standing in front of the courthouse, gay couples lined up to celebrate the Supreme Court ruling allowing gay marriage in CA. Jay & Manny are there to get Manny's birth certificate so he can go to Columbia. But of course, the dozens of gay couples standing around don't know that.
Manny: "I think I'm too young"
Jay: "I already paid for you and your mother said it was ok"
After launching about a month ago to overwhelmingly positive reviews and to what we’re hearing are impressive sales, given limited (and bizarre) advertising to this point, TiVo Roamio out-of-home streaming is on track for an October launch – which is when TiVo intends to light up significant marketing, ideally timed for the critically important holiday shopping season, as [...]

I see threads from 2006 asking for this. It seems obvious. Please allow us to have folders! Then I could put my sons stuff in his folders and wife's stuff in her folders. It would make me a better husband!! :)
My understanding is that iOS 7 allows apps to upload and download in the background, doing away with the 'ten-minute rule.' Does anyone know if this means the quirk where you have to keep the TiVo app in the foreground of an unlocked iPhone/iPad for shows to download will be a thing of the past? So far, it seems that there hasn't been any change.
Man, I was hoping the returning players would lose so they could vote Colton out.
And why do they always vote out the hot chicks early in the game?
