I just need to vent a moment. So yesterday, I go down to the TW office to return my last cable box since I now have TiVo and don't need a cable box. After waiting in line for over an hour, I finally get to return my equipment and the cute little TW girl convinces me to get digital phone because it will reduce my bill by $15/month for 12 months. She says they just need to come out and "do something to the line" tomorrow (today) to get the digital phone working. She says they won't even have to come in.
So anyway, they apparently come out this morning and these assclowns apparently don't know what the hell they are doing. I don't know what they did to my line, but whatever they did completely screws up my TV signals. Only about 20% of the digital channels are coming through now and the TV I still have hooked up to the analog cable gets nothing but snowy, blurry channels.
On the bright side, the internets still seem to work, so I can stream the channels over the internet through the TW app, but still it's f-ing annoying. On top of that, when I call and tell them they need to come back out to undo whatever it is they did to the line to get the digital phone working, they say they can't come out until Tuesday. TUESDAY! They can come out the very next day (on a Saturday) at the crack of dawn to hook up a digital phone, but can't come out for 3 f-ing days to undo whatever it is they screwed up. UGH!!!
So I tell them that isn't acceptable and have them transfer me to a supervisor. He says he has no idea what they would even need to do to the line to get it to work, as all I should have had to do is plug in their stupid telephone modem. He says he can request they return today (though it's only a request), but apparently they haven't even closed out the stupid work order (and I'm guessing probably won't until the work day is done) and that he can't even request a return trip until the work order is closed out. FML
Part of me thinks they are messing with me because I switched to TiVo and refuse to use their crappy cable boxes, but then I realize, it's just Time Warner and they are just incompetent. If only the Roamio Plus had an OTA tuner, at least I'd be able to distribute broadcast channels to the TVs hooked up to my Minis.
I live in the South Chicago burbs, have comcast and I have a TiVo XL4. Yesterday I got a message saying TiVo had detected some lineup changes in my service and it deleted some channels. To be exact, all the HD channels of all the broadcast networks...ABC, CBS, NBC, Fox, WGN and the local PBS WTTW. I manually went into the channel settings and re-checked that I get them and I'm able to watch them. However, nothing updates on the schedule. It says "to be announced" on the left when I bring up the guide and on the right it's totally blank for the hourly breakdown.
I've rebooted the unit and manually connected to TiVo for an update. No help.
The world said hello to Sochi last night, but perhaps more importantly, Sochi said “Zdravstvujtye” to the world. In a spectacle worthy of Cecil B. DeMille, the 22nd Winter Olympic Games began with aerial acrobatics, Russian classical music, a human light show, more Russian classical music, and floats accompanied by—you guessed it—Russian classical music. With 40,000 people in attendance, Fisht Olympic Stadium played host to 88 national delegations, the singing group t.A.T.u., a talking bear, and tennis player (and Sochi native) Maria Sharapova. Here are the top five moments of Continue Reading
I know there is a remote control feature in kmttg and it's very nice and works very well, but...
I'd like a desktop icon that I could click on that either takes me to a direct remote control screen for the Tivo associated with the icon or takes me to a remote control screen where I can choose my Tivo unit(s). I searched for command line switches for kmttg thinking I could set up an icon that takes me directly to the remote control screen for my Tivo but there doesn't seem to be any command line switches for that.
So I'm open to any other Windows desktop app that allows quick and direct access for remote control layout of my Tivo(s) by using shortcut icons or some other quick access.
Can anyone tell me what the Roamio Internal Blue Light means ? ? ? (the INSIDE one which can be seen through the top, not the "downloading" front light one)
I unplugged my Roamio for 2 minutes (3 week old, OTA model, LTS, with 3TB internal WD AVGP) plugged it back in and went to bed. Next morning it was completely off, with only the INTERNAL blue light turned on.
I then unplugged it for about 10 seconds, plugged it in, same problem. (no signs of life, just internal blue)
I then unplugged it for about 2 minutes, plugged it in, and now it's 100% fine and fully working. :D
Is this cause for concern? Something I should ignore? Return it? Suggestions?
Any reason why I can't create a season pass using HD channels?
I just got my Roamio setup, cable card paired. all channels come in. I used the Tivo Season Pass manager to back everything up from my Premier so I thought all was good but I hadnt tried to put them on the Roamio.
So tonight I'm surfing and tune over to ScienceHD channel were Surviverman is on so I think, OK, I'm going to set a season pass to record it, when I do I notice the pass options that it's showing the channel as the SD channel, not the HD one (40 versus 742) so I double check to see and yes, I'm tuned to the HD channel so I back out and try it again, no luck only the SD channel will record a SP.
Thinking it might be a tuner problem, I go out to find Find TV, Movies & Videos and select search to find Survivorman and I find it, only for the SD channel (#40) yet in the search it had a little "HD" yet it will not let me change the SP to the HD channel??!?!?
I go online to the season pass manager, I can select the season pass from my Premier (were I have existing HD season passes for several HD channel and I select them to be put over to my new Roamio Tivo... Well, it works but all the season passes got converted to their SD channel equivalent!!
What good is this if I can't create a Season Pass using my HD channels?? What am I missing?? BTW - If create a wishlist and using "Survivorman" and select HD channels only, I get no results.
This a screencap of what the online pass manager at Tivo.com shows (and don't make fun of my "hick" season passes :) ...)
Any ideas?? Is this something from my cable company provided guide restriction of some type?
The drive in my single drive Series 1 unit will not boot anymore. I plan to replace it with a new drive using instantcake. However is there any way to transfer the shows and movies on the drive to the new drive? or repair it enough to be able to watch or transfer shows to VHS?
As much as we sometimes hate our cable companies and their lack luster support for our TiVo's especially regarding cable cards, I must say that the online support Mediacom has is excellent! Tonight I needed to activate my new Tivo, replacing it with a older one I had and then get the cable card activated, it took me longer waiting on hold with Tivo than it did to get the cable card paired. After posting the request on Mediacom support forum, did took less than 2 minutes for my card to get paired while I waited ten minutes on hold with Tivo.
Mediacom maintains an online support forum that so far to date, you can go to, give them your cable card info and within minutes, get paired up and going with no issues. Their forum moderators have full customer service access to their programing/authorization system including changing programming subscription for example if you want to add Showtime channels to your cable lineup.
If you are a Mediacom Customer, you can get fast help at http://mediacomcable.com/CustomerSup...hp?board=2.120
As much as we complain, I just want other to know that there are occasionally a glimmer of good customer support for the companies we love to hate!
So, got my new Roamio Plus, hooked it all up, slipped in my Motorola Comcast provided cable card, did the guided setup and after two phone calls to Comcast to pair the card I still can't see any channels - none at all. Should I be able to see some channels even without the cable card paired properly? I just unhooked my old TIVO Premiere in the same spot so I know my cable line and ethernet work fine in the same spot. Any suggestions?
We're experiencing a long delay when switching channels on our PRO... about 4 - 6 seconds. We'll switch, the info bar will pop up, but it takes a long time for the station to actually tune in.
Is this normal for the PRO? Or something we need to figure out and fix?
The X Factor has been canceled after three seasons on US television:
I'm a bit surprised. On the other hand, it has never been a breakaway success like it was overseas. I think the presence of "The Voice" and the fact that we still have an "Idol" show going here means that the marketplace might be a bit too crowded. (Over in the UK, Pop Idol ended before The X Factor hit the air.)
Can I connect the power supply from a Tivo HD to a original Series 3 (model with time display on front)? I want to test the power supply in the S3 to see if that is why it is stuck on the powering up screen, but the closest model I have is a Tivo HD.
So I season pass the "Daily Show with Jon Stewart", and have a wishlist for "Jon Stewart".
On my old Tivo, I wouldn't generate a wishlist recording of a scheduled show. With my new Roamio, I'm getting two copies of every Daily Show - one in the "Daily Show" folder and one in the "Jon Stewart" Wishlist folder. How can I turn off this wish list folder, so that I don't get a reminder that I've recorded a show I already have an explicit season pass for?

In 1992, Jay Leno took over Johnny Carson’s role as host of NBC’s late-night show. Last night, 22 years later, he’s signing off – and with quite a bang. On his final night of the ‘best job in show business’, his lineup would’ve given the big-dipper a run for its money: Oprah Winfrey, Billy Crystal, Kim Kardashian, Garth Brooks, Cheryl Crowe and Jack Black all preceded the concluding monologue which was complete with tears, jokes and a hand-off to Jimmy Fallon to take over the reins. So amid all of Continue Reading
How long does it usually take mfs it has been 20 hours now it's been on partition 7. This is with the source and destination on 2.0 USB external drives. There are no programs recorded on it just full guide and what ever Tivo puts on at 3 in the morning, I had it hooked up for a month to make sure modem and everything else was ok before putting large drive in is a S3 652. Should I give up do a clear and delete and try again? How long would it take after C/D?
Since we installed our Mini we've been having difficulty turning off our Samsung TV. The Mini is connected to the TV via HDMI. The Mini replaced a TivoHD that had been working flawlessly with the TV for four years.
I setup the remote control code, which is 0092, and the TV can be powered off/on. However, when we turn it off most of the time (90%) just a couple seconds later the TV turns back on again.
Thinking that there was a problem with the Mini sending commands over HDMI I went into the TV menus and defeated the HDMI-CEC. That didn't make a difference.
My next move will be to buy the component analog breakout cable and eliminate the HDMI connection entirely.
Does this seem familiar to anyone here? I'm wondering if the HDMI connection is a red herring, and something has simply become faulty in the TV?
I have been looking at getting a Stream, but then recently decided I might try something else. I have a fully functional TiVo series 3. It is not subscribed to, but I was able to pair a cable card with it (S-card) and make it basically a SUPER no-frills cable box in a workshop area of my house.
It works fine for my needs and since Comcast is only charging me $1.50 for the cable card, it beats renting one of their lousy boxes. Mine is HD too.
That being said, I was thinking I could hook up a Slingbox to the outputs of this unsubscribed TiVo S3 and use it to view live channels outside my home and most likley not disturb anyone watching it in the house (since it in a workshop area). Anyone ever try something similar?
I am also well aware that I would not be able to get any guide data and/or watch any recorded programs with a slingbox, but I currently can't do this anyway and I was mainly interested in "live" TV on the road anyway.

Amy: I deserve romance, and I didn't know how else to make it happen.
Sheldon: Well, if you want romance, then let's have romance! Oh, look, there's wine. Mmm. Grape juice that burns. Uh, now let's gaze into each other's eyes, hmm? You blinked I win. Let's see. What's next? Oh, kissing's romantic.
Amy: That was nice.
With the XXII Winter Olympics in Sochi about to begin, it’s time to make sure you’ve set up recordings of all your favorite events. NBC is spreading events across most of their broadcast and cable networks so we’ve made it easy to grab all your favorites. From TiVo Central, select “Find TV, Movies & Videos”, then “Browse TV & Movies” to reach the “Olympics” browse menu. From here you can schedule recordings for each of the Winter Olympic events. Select your favorite and use the “Record this Collection” option to Continue Reading
