Audio Format Question

TiVoCommunity Forum Recent Threads - Sat, 07/27/2013 - 22:01
Okay, let me say up front that I am lost when it comes to this. I have MKV files, some with AC-3 (6 Channel), some either with a standalone stream or second stream of AAC. I am using MKVtoMP4 to convert these files as they are not playing correctly on TiVo (Premier). I try to keep the AC-3 (6 Channel) and no sound. I have to convert it to AAC (LC) 2 Channel and it works.

I am transferring through the Tivo software. I am aware and have used pytivo and streambaby. I am just trying to understand this audio situation better.

I have the Tivo connected to an Onkyo 616 via HDMI. The audio comes from the Tivo as PCM, which I also don't understand. My goal is to output is as 7.1 at the end of the day...

Any insight would be greatly appreciated.

Replace HD with Premiere on Annual Service

TiVoCommunity Forum Recent Threads - Sat, 07/27/2013 - 18:20
I have a TiVo HD that's currently grandfathered in on an annual plan. I just got a Premiere for a really good price. Is it possible to just substitute the Premiere for the HD and keep the annual plan. Would I just change the service number or would a call to TiVo customer support be needed.

No Play option?

TiVoCommunity Forum Recent Threads - Sat, 07/27/2013 - 17:18
My bank cancelled my card, so TiVo didn't get paid, and within a couple of weeks (I was out of town) one of my tivos was deactivated. Nothing recorded. Fast forward. I added my new card to the account, both tivos and the mini charged ok. Account says good standing.

On the mini I like to the 4 tuner TiVo and programs show up in the list but theres no option to play them? just delete etc...

I can however browse to the other TiVo and and play programs off that.

Ive tried rebooting all pieces, even reset to factory on the mini... anyone have any ideas?

Kudos to Charter - Great customer service!

So much of the time I read about people bashing their cable company and the CSR's.

Yesterday and today I had a great experience with my Charter representatives. Yesterday I went to the local office in and turned in my old set top boxes (had 10 years or more) that I didn't use because I have TiVo on my Family room TV and my son moved out, so I was only using one for a clock. Anyway, I turned them in an picked up 2 Cablecard self install kits.

The representative was very friendly and helpful and we got he exchange made, numbers recorded and I was out in 10 minutes. Great experience!

Today I decided to install the Cablecards in my Tivos. I installed the first, called Charter and got a CSR fairly quickly (no wait actually). We went through the procedure (it said record the numbers from the Cablecards, (I used my iPhone to photo the cards to eliminate transposition errors) I read him numbers off the screen, then numbers off the first Cablecard, the activation failed. He soon found out it was because the serial number on the card did not match the number in firmware on the card. He put me on hold (very politely) a couple of times but then found he couldn't fix it as he needed his supervisor for higher level access to the system. He took my phone number, went and make corrections. He then called me back (very shortly really) and we tested various channels to make sure everything was OK, it was.

He then said why don't we do the other Cablecard while he was on the phone. I got the card, photo'ed the numbers, installed them in the second TiVo. We went through the procedure where I read him the numbers, he sent the activation signal to my TiVo and then my Tivo had a hiccuup. The TiVo just wouldn't acquire the channel information,it got to 50 percent then stayed there at 50 percent for about 5 minutes. We decided maybe the TiVo was at fault and that the solution might be to do to do a soft reset on the TiVo. He very patiently waited while I reset the TiVo and it had to go through the start-up process (we all know how long it takes for a TiVo to reboot). Then all was well, he guided me though a channel test and everything was good.

The whole process took an hour to an hour and a half, but I had the time allotted in case of problems. We took it slow so as to analyze and correct problems and not cause more problems.

My advice is to allow more than enough time and just be patient and understanding and that your patience and understanding will be returned with patience and understanding and good service.

I believe that this shows that dealing with your cable company does not always have to be a disaster, there can be some success stories.

Older HD series 3

TiVoCommunity Forum Recent Threads - Sat, 07/27/2013 - 06:31
Here's another project I've recently completed. Series 3 HD unit with no subscription. I'd like to but already have 3 lifetimes on other units. So what to do.. Bought a Revue Google TV unit. Hooked them all up and of course no guide data. But searching for something using the google TV and changing channels works great. There is an app which gives you a guide but it's kind of glitchy. Of course the only thing you can do with the TiVo is pause for half an hour. Which comes in handy.

Cablecard self install - Charter

TiVoCommunity Forum Recent Threads - Fri, 07/26/2013 - 23:47
Finally got around to getting Cablecards for my TiVos. The CSR at the local Charter office said just put them in and they should activate automatically, but the emergengy instructions in case it doesn't automatically activate apper to be for a standard digital cable box reset.

The online intructions say to record numbers on the cablecard, install the card then call Charter with recorded numbers and numbers on the screen, then install the Tuning adapter.

Which is correct?

The CSR?

Or

The instructions on the Charter web site?

Any insights appreciated,

Suggestions stopped recording

TiVoCommunity Forum Recent Threads - Fri, 07/26/2013 - 23:01
I have a Series 3 and an HD - and both of them have stopped recording suggestions! I've had these boxes for many years and this has never happened. Just noticed it today.

The Series 3 has not recorded a suggestion since 7/18 and the HD since 7/23. They both have >100 GB of space in deleted shows, and they both (historically) record suggestions daily.

I rebooted the Series 3 since it was the worst offender and it didn't record in 12 hours. Just followed an instruction I found online to change setting to not record suggestions, restart, change setting back to record, reboot. Have done that but won't know until tomorrow I guess if that worked.

Anyone else experience this with tried 'n true Tivos?

Also - haven't restarted my Tivo in forever, but didn't get the Tivo guy just static when it restarted. Got the wait screens but not the animation - that used to be the best part! Where's Tivo Guy? This isn't right!

When using FF to get to live - audio stops

TiVoCommunity Forum Recent Threads - Fri, 07/26/2013 - 15:45
I've recently upgraded to a Premiere 4 and love it but there is one bug driving me crazy.

When watching a delayed live channel such as a baseball game but I'm back in time...

then I fast forward towards real time...

when I hit real-time it reverts to 'play' but the audio is not present. I have to hit the 5-sec rewind button to get the audio back.

Anyone have any ideas or seen anything similar?

moca install trouble

TiVoCommunity Forum Recent Threads - Fri, 07/26/2013 - 14:45
I'm trying to install moca on my DSL from AT%T. I have the POE filter on at the box incoming cable just before a 3 splitter coming into the house.

plugged the WAN into the modem/router (it is an actiontec GT784wn) plugged the router to the actiontec Moca adapter, plugged the coax cable from the wall to the actiontec moca adapter and then into the tivo.

I still get cable (noticed its a little slower to come in) on both TVS

In the other room is my premier 4 and it is not detecting moca.

The COAX light is not showing on the MOCA adapter. Power and ethernet are green. How do I troubleshoot from here? is my modem/router compatible? do I need to enable something?

THanks!

How Chromecast Could Jumpstart TiVo’s Retail Ambitions

Zatz Not Funny! - Fri, 07/26/2013 - 13:27

As we await Chromecast delivery, an interesting TiVo rumor has crossed our desk. Supposedly Series 5 and TiVo Mini hardware will leverage the same sort of technologies (DIAL? via Flingo?) that Google’s Chromecast has implemented. Cast is similar to AirPlay in that a smartphone, tablet, or computer pipes video to a television. However, unlike Apple’s [...]

CableCard "errors" 2XL/4XL w/Moto card

TiVoCommunity Forum Recent Threads - Fri, 07/26/2013 - 09:29
I've posted previously regarding SNR #'s and Signal Strength issues. Comcast has replaced some grounding blocks that certainly displayed issues and the SNR#'s have improved to TiVo standards but I've still got image issues and the Uncorrected Errors and Corrected Errors are crazy high numbers.

I've reset both my machines a couple times which clears the cache but I've still got ridiculous I believe issues there. TiVo says should have near 0 - could some of you just post #'s from the cable card diagnostics page for your Uncorrected and Corrected numbers and maybe include the SNR# recorded also. The connect time is shown in seconds and I don't know that I'm concerned with that, I'm more interested with maybe establishing a ratio of the uncorrected to the corrected.

I don't believe that there's a difference in machines and i mentioned it's a Motorola Card

Thanks

No surprise that Kaitlyn went home. She really was the best choice. Get her out while you can.

I wonder if Aryn is going to keep her deal or totally screw them over. Should be an interesting week.

Why is my space disappearing on my HD3?

TiVoCommunity Forum Recent Threads - Fri, 07/26/2013 - 04:24
I have an HD3 TiVo 1350 which supposedly has 1241 SD hours. To save space, I record in SD.

When I left for a 3 day trip, I deleted as much as possible. I had recordings to protect from a few years ago (but not on KUID). When I returned Sunday, all was well, but my deleted recordings were down to about 100. It seemed like I page upped fewer times and noticed that was odd.

(Usually, I have 200-400 deleted recordings, and can page up about 20-25 times to the top.)

Yesterday, I went to undelete a program, and there were only TWO programs in my undelete file, and I sure didn't record 100 shows and had also done daily multiple deletes. It seems like many recordings have disappeared too.

So, I diligently removed more programs that I figure I won't watch, and got up to 67, I think. This morning, there are only 54 programs in my deleted file.

What could be happening? Where are my programs going? What should I do to stop this shrinking of my HD?

Any ideas or suggestions? Do you need more information from me? Thanks.

PBS Station Promotes Spot-On Fake Reality Shows to Illustrate Sad State of TV

To demonstrate the sad state of television programming, PBS station WNET is promoting a series of fake reality shows that are absurd and idiotic but sadly, would not look out of place on TV. As part of the campaign the station produced thoroughly convincing trailers for three of them: Long Island Landscapers, Clam Kings, and Meet the Tanners. The campaign urges viewers who have “had enough of bad television” to support WNET.http://www.thirteen.org/tvgonewrong/

New LG/Entone Retail Streamer on the Way

Zatz Not Funny! - Thu, 07/25/2013 - 15:08

Lost in the Chromecast news yesterday was an announcement from LG and Entone on a new media streamer coming to retail. In itself, the streamer isn’t all that exciting. But pair the box with Entone’s 8-tuner gateway and you have a very interesting proposition for retail or the ISP channel. To start, the streamer is [...]

Court sides with Dish Re: Commercial Skipping

In other news, the 9th Circuit sided with Dish in Fox's lawsuit against them regarding the Hopper's channel-skipping feature.

Doesn't impact Tivo directly right now, but should they one day decide that trying to be cozy with content partners won't pay the bills, they have some legal leverage to do the same.
