I have a new XL4 and I wanted to check out what the signal strengths are- not that there is any problem, I just wanted to see if the strengths were good or marginal. I went to the settings/channel menu and when I select channel signal strength I get a message saying that I can't get signal strength because I don't have any digital channels. Of course ALL my channels are digital.
I don't have this problem on my two tuner Premiere.
Is this some kind of bug?
I encountered this error when trying to swap a 2TB for a 1TB HDD in a "HD model 652":
backup: segfault at c ip 0804DC82 sp bfb29508 error 4 in backup[8048000+ c001]
restore failed: -:success
I'm using MFS V1.4 The drive being imaged is a 2TB taken out of a model 652 (HD). The destination HDD is a 1TB HDD which was never installed. Ythe 2TB will go in another 652 later.
I have done this before (successfully) with the same boot CD. From what I have read on this, it seems it's something that happens inside the O/S, not from a boot CD. Does the source or the destination drive have anything to do with this? Is a 2TB drive a problem here?
I have my 2-year old Premiere on a UPS, but a power surge fried the cable card and the Tivo is stuck on an endless loop ("Powering up..." screen, then reboots).
Tivo support said the hard drive was toast.
I popped the original HD back in, and after getting a replacement cable card, it is up and running again.
1) Should I just go through Western Digital and get a replacement hard drive since it's still (amazingly) under warranty (based on the serial number)?
2) What are the chances that I could "revive" the old 2TB hard drive to get any shows off of it, or even clone it to the new hard drive once it arrives?
3) If #2, then best options to accomplish that? Hook hard drive up to PC and run diagnostics on it? Spinrite? Others?
P.S. I can't think of anything absolutely essential on the hard drive that I need, so I might save myself the hassle and just put the new drive in. Just want to know my options
Friday Night Lights? That would be interesting. Movie--> TV Show --> Movie
Dead Like Me? Oh wait they got one it sucked.
Pushing Daises? Is there enough of a fan following?
After a week, this thing kicks ass. It has been great so far during hockey season as we can record our primetime shows with buffers and still watch the hockey game. Speed is dead on to what my 2 tuner was which I had no issues with the HDUI. The moca bridge has been great also as I was able to get rid of a moca adaptor
This weekends Engadget Expand panel discussion, moderated by @rjcc, with Jim Denney, Product Marketing Manager of TiVo and representatives from Boxee and Sling. IMHO, Jim does a good job of explaining the TiVo value proposition and hints at some of the things we'll see explored in TiVo's future products and services.
I read a post dated 08-26-2010 regarding adding a 512 GB SSD drive in a Tivo HD. from TexasGrillChef
Now that SSD have come down in price, I am thinking of buying an SSD and install in my Tivo Premier.
Can someone give some me some info on how to do it.
Like for example...
Do you add the SSD as an external device ??
Or installed it internally ?? If internal, how do you configured so that Tivo would boot up ???
Any other info/help will be appreciated.

Some body got a hold of screeners for the last two episodes of the walking dead. They've made screen caps of MAJOR spoilers and are being spread around the internets. Over at 4chan and reddit, trolls are putting these images in unrelated discussions and intentionally mis labeling them.
Personally I'm going to stop reading forums for two weeks. I've read these are show killing spoilers.

My 90-year-old mother is in a nursing home and very dependent on her TiVo (Premier) and Vizio TV. Her new roommate has an LG TV. It turns out that Vizio and LG televisions use the same coding in their IR remotes. Result: two old ladies sitting in their wheelchairs turning each other's TV on and off and changing each other's volume. They had no idea what was going on, and it took me awhile to figure it out. (At least the TiVo keeps them from changing each other's channels as well.)
Both are on Medicaid, can't afford new TVs (Medicaid takes all but $35/month of whatever income you have). I can't give my mother a new TV; Medicaid would consider that "income." A little box of electronics in the sub-$100 range would probably be acceptable. The TVs are about 8' apart, there's no way to separate them further and IR bounces all over the room.
A possible solution would be a small receiver that uses different IR codes AND has a controllable AC socket that the TV can be plugged into. But for under $100?
3rd good episode in a row, IMO.
I have a Panasonic HD TV. Model # is TH-42PZ85U. It is exactly 5 years old.
On my TV, when I want to change the source input(e.g., changing from "HDMI 1" over to "HDMI 2") my regular TV remote can do this quite easily. My TV remote gives me an on screen display and allows me to go up or down between the source inputs.
I have a Tivo premiere with the "regular" remote control(not Glo, not slide remote, etc.)
I tried to program the "TV input" function on the Tivo remote. If I repeatedly hit the "TV input" key on the remote, it will allow me to scroll DOWN the TV input sources. However, it does will not allow me to go UP.
Also, the Tivo remote does not allow me to hit the source number. On my TV, HDMI is numbered 1, composite input is number 4, etc. My TV remote allows me to hit "1" or "4" and jump to the desired input.
Anyone know about this? Is there a way that I can set this up so that it will allow me the same functionality on the Tivo remote for this task that I am able to do with the regular remote?
Anyone else in Rhode Island with missing SDV channels since mid last week?

I really like my mini - Comcast on demand works, tunes live TV well, but Stream baby stream shows up in the app list, sees my network, navigates through the folders, shows the video file - I go play then it gives an error (on all and any file).
Is supposed to work? or an I just wishing?
I have two series 2 tivos with lifetime sub. I just installed desktop on my laptop. It sees one of the tivos, but not the other. Both are set to transfer in my account and they both see each other. Why isn't desktop seeing both?
I have an over the air antenna and a TiVo premiere dvr the antenna is a powered antenna the pixilation happens on all channels I put in a non powered amplifier still pixales on some channels any other suggestion on solving my situation
Why can't Netflix movies be temporarily saved like Amazon movies? This is very useful when trying to watch movies during high traffic times when the internet is slow. Also the pause and other functions work faster on recordings then they do on streaming. The buffering on Saturday night is very annoying.
I'm trying to get an ethernet connection next to my Mini which is in a bedroom away from the router. I want to hook up a PS3 or Roku next to the Mini. I have FiOS with Moca.
When I take the coax from the wall and put it to the input of the Moca adapter and the output going to the Mini, the ethernet connection works but the Mini doesnt have a Moca signal.
When I hook the Mini up directly it connects via Moca just fine but then my ethernet adapter doesnt work. I tried using a splitter with one cable going straight to the Mini and another cable going to the Moca Adapter and when I did that the Mini works fine but still no ethernet. Ethernet only works when I Dont have the mini connected.
Thank you in advance for any help!!
