Ten days ago I ordered a Tivo Roamio Plus and a Mini. The Plus for our family room, the Mini for the basement. The Tivo agent who sold me this package assured me that I could connect these two units together. "It will be easy." Even in an old home, over 100 feet between the two units, modem and router another 25 feet from the Plus in a third room, I ask. Still "no problem" he says.
The UPS box arrived several days later. I jump into the connection process. 30 minutes later, the Plus is working. That's the good news. The Mini--a different story. Days later, after numerous calls to Tivo Help, each time getting different instructions about connecting the Mini, almost none of which is on the website, the Mini still won't connect. It loads, reboots, loads again. Still picture but no motion. Hours of my time invested. Frustration mounts. I've spent at least 20 hours on this, calling Tivo, searching this site and the web for answers. I buy extra cable, consider buying a second Moca adapter but am then told I don't need one. Still nothing works.
So I give up. Didn't want to. But I'm not going to pay $600 up front plus serious connection fees each year for a product that's just marginally better than a new cable company DVR. The final frustration was paying $26 when dropping off the box at UPS this morning. You'd think Tivo would pay for return shipping when a product does not work as advertised. I called Tivo later today and to see if they might reconsider paying for the return. Nope. Nope. Nope. "That's our policy and we're sicking to it".
Prior to this, I thought Tivo was a great company with advanced products and services. Now I'm not so sure. My attitude toward Tivo products and customer service just fell to the bottom of the chart. Apparently they don't care whether my system worked or not.
I will not be able to say anything positive about Tivo to friends, relatives and co-workers in the months and years ahead. I hope Tivo figures it was worth it!!!
To be honest, I'm new to digital cable, so I'm not completely familiar with how CableCards work. I've only had it for a few weeks, and I specifically signed up because of the Roamio.
I had a tech come out and give me a card for my old TiVo so I'd have it when I finally got my new Tivo in, that way I could just call and pair and wouldn't have to wait for a tech at that time. Anyways, the card didn't give me any problems in an old HD unit the whole time I had it in there.
So then I called to pair it with the Roamio this past Friday and everything was great for 24 hours, that's when I lost my channels for the first time. As with everything (computers, phone, etc) I tried restarting the TiVo first and they came back and everything was fine. Since Saturday afternoon I've lost them a total of five times, three times I had to restart, but twice the channels came back on their own after I received this message on my screen:
CableCard Error: A technical problem is preventing you from receiving all cable services at this time. Please call your cable operator and report error code 161-17.
I'm going to call and have a tech come out later this week, but should I prepare myself for this being a TiVo issue? I'd like to figure it out ASAP because I purchased it from Best Buy and their return policy is only 15 days. As I said before, I'm new to CableCards so I don't know if they "go bad" after being swapped out.

I installed tivo desktop last week and used it to share my music collection. The app it used was old and clunky but worked. At this point, I'd still use my chromecast to cast google chrome's browser window which is using google's play functionality which hosts all my music for free(which is great).
I'd really like something much simpler I could access from my tivo so I could just play one of my albums without going through a multi step process to get there.
I have a Motorola CableCard/Tuning Adapter and am having an issue with a few of my channels so TiVo wants me to exchange out my CableCard. My concern is that I'll get a CableCard with older firmware as my current card was ordered brand new from Motorola by my cable company and has 06.25 firmware on it.
For those running Motorola CableCards with the Roamio would you please report your CableCard firmware version and if you have been having any issues with channels.

Just upgraded to the Roamio Pro, so I am going to be putting up my Premiere Elite (purchased new from Woot) when they had deals running a while back. It's stock with Lifetime and an extended warranty through June 2015.
I also have an "evaluation" status Premiere 4 (4 tuner) that has never been used, and opened only to upgrade to a 2tb WD AV drive. I also have a note and case from TiVo confirming the eval status can be transferred to the buyer and will function as lifetime for service (but not for MSD purposes)
Before posting on eBay, I thought I would offer them up to the TC. If you are interested, make me an offer.

So, I got my Roamio Pro up and running today. Everything appears to be working ok as of now.
Unfortunately, the one TiVo Mini that I picked up as well was DOA, so I had to return that one and starting playing with the iPad streaming app.
The app appears fully functional on my iOS 6 iPad (Mini).
My 3rd gen iPad is running the latest iOS 7 Beta and I can't get it to work: I have reset the app and reinstalled the app, the error remains the same - it can't find the Roamio on the network -'Invalid Media Access Key'. I can sign in with my TiVo account, but that's it. If I do that and try top connect to the Roamio (which appears in the list of devices) it states that the Roamio can't be found on the network.
Both iPads are on the same wireless network and the Roamio is connected via ethernet.
Does anybody have any success with iOS 7?

I was hoping the audio bug (where it goes out of phase into mono) was fixed in the Roamio, however I noticed it today when I started a recording. A skip or replay command fixes it, however it's still annoying. I hope we see a fix in the fall update...
For instance, right now with pyTivo, certain supported formats can be sent to a premiere without transcoding. Seems like a long shot, but... any chance that the roamio supports more formats than the premiere? HD audio support would be awesome. But I'm thinking there are licensing fees that would drive the cost of the tivo up too much, so it's probably no.
My Internet has been flaky which I can fix when I am home but I am planning on a two week vacation later this year and won't be home to reboot my modem. Will manual recordings work if the guide data runs out? The TiVo has lifetime so it does have service but do you have to connect periodically ti TiVo for it to work. I do not have a land line.
OK, here is the deal. I got a new Roamio Pro last week, because I wanted the 6 tuners (among the other things offered). Got an M-Card (Motorola) from COX Cable in Hampton Roads. I fire the baby up, call COX Cable and get the tuner adapter married to the M-Card, and all is well. I got all of my channels just fine.
Next, I tried to test record some shows. After getting the TIVO to record the second show, now I get this error on ALL of the other channels: "This channel is temporarily unavailable. Press Select to try tuning to the channel again. Contact your cable provider for more information". No amount of Selecting got those channels back, but a reboot of the TIVO fixes it.
So I chatted online with the TIVO support. After about 90 minutes, we determined that the (outdated) M-Card had older firmware and only supported 2 'streams' and that I should get another, more updated M-Card. I did some homework first, searching the forums here, and I temporarily reduced my tuners to three (the third tuner still knocks out all of the other channels, though. I don't know how to get the Roamio down temporarily to two tuners).
Today I went to two different COX Solution Stores to ask for an updated M-Card that would handle 6 tuners. Both store personnel said they had none, and didn't even know if was possible to update the M-Card firmware, or when any updated M-Cards will ever be in. That was understandable, as the TIVO Roamio is new to them. HOWEVER, in the corner of each store was THEIR DVR box, supporting 6 tuners. It was run by a Cisco M-Card, which I think would work in the Roamio Pro. But they refused to let me have one of those M-Cards.
So I am stuck with a disabled Roamio Pro, little better than my Tivo Premier.
My question to the forum is this: Is there any other way to get a correctly updated M-Card other than through the cable provider? Or am I stuck to a new M-Card arrives in town, whenever? :(
has anyone seen a "teardown" of the Roamio similar to the one done on the Premiere, where each section was analyzed and the chips used identified?
So I'm having a weird problem with my TiVo account and I'm wondering if it's specific to my account or just a general problem with the website. If I log into my account on tivo.com my address is wrong. If I change it via the website it says it's successful and shows me the new info as long as I'm logged in. However if I log out and then log back in it reverts to the old info. I talked to a CSR via chat and he was able to change the address on his end and it took, but just as a test I tried changing it again on my end and I still can't get any changes I make to stick.
Can someone else try this out and let me know if you have the same problem? Just want to know if it's my account or the site in general.

I have connected to the server several times (including just a few minutes ago), and the info remains missing. I am in Los Angeles.
Hey guys, I just set up my brand new XL4 and everything is working fine, except for Netflix. I have an older Premiere that is running Netflix so I know how to do it, but when I open the app on the XL4 it gives me an unexpected error and won't allow me to log in. I unplugged the box and reset it, and it still isn't working.
Is this something to do with the software updates for a new device, that will correct itself with time? Or is this something I need to be concerned about.

Now that the Roamio is HTML 5 compatible does anyone think Tivo may have a full App store. IMO thsi would be a complete game changer, and could add considerable valuation to the company. I was thinking about making a small investment in Tivo, as I believe an App store could really bring in new users and revenue streams.
So I got my Roamio Sunday night and got it set up and going on Monday. I did run into some interesting hiccups with the Minis so thought I would share the experience.
My Mini setup is pretty typical, I am using MoCA hosted by the main TiVo, which has ethernet connectivity directly to the rest of my home network.
So, here's how things went down.
I got my Roamio setup and activated service on it, and I then disconnected the XL4 and put the Roamio Plus in its place. I connected Coax and tried to connect the Minis.
The Minis could see the Roamio on the home network but could not connect to it (infamous V70 unauthorized message). I suspected that the Minis needed to phone home in order to determine that the new Roamio was authorized for service. When I tried to do a "force connection to TiVo" in the settings menu of the Minis, they had no gateway to the outside world as the host XL4 (which acts as their gateway) was disconnected.
I re-connected the XL4 to coax, disabled MoCA on the Roamio, had the Minis phone home, this time they recognized that the Roamio was authorized on the account. I was then able to re-enable MoCA on the Roamio and connect the Minis.
So, these might be the easiest steps to perform if you are swapping out your XL4 for a Roamio and you use MoCA with your Minis;
1. Activate service on the Roamio and make sure it has performed all updates and phoned home. Make sure it shows authorized for service in the status screen. Do not activate MoCA on the Roamio at this time.
2. With the host XL4 still connected, initiate a connection from each Mini to the TiVo mothership to get account info that shows the new Roamio.
3. Disconnect Coax from the XL4 and/or turn off the MoCA bridge function.
4. Turn on the MoCA bridge on the Roamio.
5. On each Mini go into settings -> cable cards -> TiVo setup and choose the new Roamio as the connected DVR.
You might want to verify it's working with the new TiVo before wiping out the settings on your old one. Another option I suppose would be to reset everything on each Mini and simply set them up from scratch with the new Roamio.
I have a consistent problem streaming certain Netflix shows. These shows include House of Cards Trilogy (BBC), Lilyhammer, and later episodes of Doc Martin. The problem is: repeated frequent buffering and sound but no picture. When I fast forward I see the picture in the small central box (picture in picture during fast forward), but I do not see it on the main screen and when I stop fast forwarding I do not see it at all. This problem has been going on for months. I have upgraded my Time Warner Cable modem and TWC plan. I have upgraded my Linksys router and, anyway, my Tivo connects to my computer with an Ethernet cable. In general my Netflix streaming works fine but certain shows (mainly BBC) are a problem. Does anyone else have this problem?
