My parents watch just OTA using a rabbit ear antenna connected to a TV with built-in digital tuner (no digital converter box).
Are there tivos, besides the roamio, that will work with just OTA? With just the rabbit ear antenna connected to the tivo? Not even a digital converter box connected.
Thanks in advance.
So I just bought a Roamio, can't use it just yet because I went to my cable provider and they didn't have any working cable card. My brother is gonna buy a mini and he has a hard wired ethernet connection in his room. My mom/dad and my sister, the two rooms where I need to put the minis has no ethernet ports.
I was thinking of buying a Moca adapter http://www.amazon.com/Actiontec-Ethe...pr_product_top
I think that's it. Or I could buy an something like this: http://www.bestbuy.com/site/universa...0044&cp=1&lp=2
I don't know if either of those are fast enough to distribute the signal from my Roamio (that's connected via wifi.) I would like to go with an extender because it's cheaper, but if the moca is THAT much better its not a problem to go with it.
Right now I have Time Warner internet, 30mbs down, 5mbs up. But I plan to upgrade to the 50mbs down, 5mbs up plan.
Edit: Just found this, would it work? http://www.amazon.com/RCA-DH24SPF-Tw...+coax+ethernet
Let me know what I should do! Or even if I should get the mini's at all, it might be too much hassle.
Ok here the deal. I did have a Asus RT-N65u router and the tivo worked perfectly. every thing wired. I bought a Asus RT-N66u router so I could use different firmware and to get a IPV6 firewall. I switched out the router but now I get a Cable not connected error. The error code is c130. Here is what I have done so far.
1 changed the cables so I had a different cable.
2 I have 2 internet connections in my living room so I tried using the second one.
3 Rebooted the tivo after each change.
4 switched back to the n65u router
What should I do to get this working?
I've had a wierd glitch this week. When I set a recording or a season pass I get the blue circle for a few seconds and then the tivo just goes back to the screen I was on WITHOUT actually setting the recording or pass. Same thing happens when I try to delete a program that is already recorded, i choose to delete, get the blue circle for 5 seconds and then nothing happens, the show remains on the Tivo.
I first noticed this earlier in the week, performed a reboot and that seemed to solve the issue. However, it just came back today. I plan on rebooting again when the basketball game I'm recording finishes.
I contacted Tivo Support Chat about this and they couldn't help me on chat, told me to call them by phone. I'll do that once the game is done recording as well.
Can the recording quality be adjusted on a basic Roamio for OTA like you could on the old Series 2 Tivos? It would have to be connected to a SD TV with a adapted from what I what I understand from the website.
I having a bunch of problems with the Roamio randomly freezing and rebooting in the middle of recording since yesterday. Poking around, I see some mentions of this, along with quotes that indicate that TiVo really doesn't have a clue about what's going on.
While it's most noticeable while watching live TV or recordings, it also happens at random when there is no activity on the DVR other than scheduled recordings.
So far it happened three times last night, losing chunks of Grimm and Helix, and again this morning while I was asleep, losing a chunk of CarTalk.
Any suggestions? The TiVo is directly connected to the router with no WiFi; I've rebooted the TiVo, cable modem, and router; and I don't use Netflix. Software version is 20.3.8-USA-6-846.
I am considering adding a Yamaha powered receiver with multiple HDMI outputs to my home entertainment mix. My desire is to locate the Yamaha unit in the media room and use it as a hub to send video and audio feeds via HDMI to both the projector in the media room and to a plasma panel in the living room. One of the source units for media sent to/through the Yamaha receiver is a Roamio. This would mean the Roamio and Yamaha receiver would be in the equipment closet in the media room, quite concealed from the living room.
I'm trying to decide what is the best remote control option for this scenario: Some Logitech RF device? Load apps on all my Apple products and control via app across WiFi?
Any feedback on superior solutions?
When I try to open Video on Demand it reverts to the main TIVO menu and won't show me any choices, (Netflex, Amazon for example. What I am try to do is to get to video podcasts. Sometimes I will work and sometimes not. Seems to for after a reboot but within 10 min I have the problem again.
Chatted with TIVO but their ideas didn't work and they are going to contact me later (what ever that means). This problem has been around about a month or so and is sometimes bad..Now for example i cant't get to anything to I can get to Video podcasts but when I try to select something I get "bounced" back to video podcasts main menu.
My TIVO is a Premier XL Series 4. I have cable service from Astound and a cable card from them that allows 2 shows to be recorded at once.
I have a Premier XL with lifetime service for sale. I replaced the hard drive (156 HD hours) a few months ago so it's practically new. I'm asking $425 which includes shipping to the lower 48 and all fees, but make an offer.
Has anyone tried to upgrade a Series3/TivoHD past 2TB total capacity lately? Since one of the recent software updates allowed greater than 1TB partitions, making it conveniently possible to upgrade any of these units to 2TB, I've been wondering if any other limitations may have been removed as well, and in fact greater yet capacities may be possible.
When I find an eSATA enclosure, I am considering attempting a 4TB setup in a 2TB + 2TB configuration.
Okay, when Hatake said "You have your father's eyes", my first thought was Rosemary's Baby! But, that seems unlikely. Julia is probably his clone. And what the hell is Hatake anyway?
After seeing all of the germs they have down in the vault, it reminded me that the CDC stores that type of thing as well. I'm now thinking that there may not be enough security around that place. They should have troops. And tanks. And submarines. Like Fort Knox.
BTW, the woman in that half picture looked exactly like Julia. Can a clone come from two different sources? I'm not up to date on my cloning techniques.
Hello, I couldn't find answers to my TiVO issues which was installed some months ago:
1. There are usually at the bottom of the screen from one to 3 lines of text explaining whatever show I watch...but it only shows one line and sometimes not even that one line. The rest are hidden below!
2. A show I watch daily at 7pm (EST) always ends a few minutes earlier so I can never learn of the verdict (it's a court subject). A couple of times I deliberately watched it live to see whether it's the channel's problem, BUT, it showed the ENTIRE show finishing at exactly 8 pm (EST). It's not the channel's fault so it must be TIVO's! My server said that I could extend the time of this show, BUT, it will extend the time for all the subsequent shows thereby cutting off the beginnings. No good. What does TIVO have to say?
3. I'm surprised that the Schedule Guide of shows is so hard to read, especially when I want to schedule something, say, 3 days ahead, I have to move it only one at a time and very slow at that! My old one I could just run it like a flash to the point where I needed to schedule a show.
4. In general it's very slow when I press the buttons from turning on, to TIVO, to My shows, to which of My Shows, and on and on until it gets to "Play".
I haven't tried the Verizon or Time Warner, but if these issues can't be corrected, I'll have to explore those.
Thank you very much for any suggestions? :) Adela
P.S. Does anyone see lots of lines across this message? What are they? They come and go.....Thanks.
Considering they have no hard drives and have external power supplies, would be worth it to get the extended warranty if you bought lifetime service for them? Other than the cooling fan, they have no moving parts so their shouldn't be much that fails short of a power surge causing a problem but given they are so new, who knows how reliable they will be??
Also, what is the cost? Per the website, it quotes as low as $29.95 but shouldn't they be cheaper than that since that's the regular price for a full blown Tivo?
In case anyones interested in reading another review ,the april 2014 issue of sound&vision magazine has a very good review of the tivo roamio pro. the reviewer really loves the new tivo pro!:D
Today I received an email from TiVo saying they will be upgrading my series 3 to a premiere. They said a recent upgrade was the reason.
It must have something to do with Netflix moving all devices to HTML 5.
I'll be calling in the morning.
I just purchased the Tivo Roamio and the mini. I have everything in a closet av rack downstairs of my home. All my devices are in this rack including these 2 new Tivos. I ran a 100' HDMI cable from my downstairs to my upstairs bedroom and was working perfectly fine with my cable box a couple of days ago. That same cable, I cannot get signal on my Mini. My question is, do I need an HDMI extender/booster to get a signal off the 100' HDMI cable? The Tivo mini works because I tested it with the 6' HDMI cable in came with. Thanks!
I have a Premier XL4 that has been working fine with a wired Ethernet adapter. Last week I noticed it could not connect to the internet anymore or stream shows to my other Tivo. I am guessing the Ethernet port has gone bad. Does anyone know of a good USB-Ethernet adapter that will work. I have tried two different ones that should work but do not with the XL4
I am in complete awe of Det./Patrolman Lance's inability to put 2 and 2 together and recognize Oliver as the Arrow. Every episode, I'm like "C'mon man! Doesn't the stubbly beard give it away just a little bit?"
Hopefully, the Laurel drama is out of the way. I spent half this episode wishing she'd go play in traffic.
I liked this villain. It's a shame he was just a one off bad guy.
I've gotten a little tired of the flashbacks. At least this one had a payoff.
Looks like Oliver is going to have some Slade Wilson trouble.
Here is yet another "nutty" question.....Does the Tivo Stream have to be connected by the Tivo Roamio, or can I just connect closer to my router?
I have a cat5 connecting the Tivo to the router in another room. That's why I ask.
