Networking Question

TiVoCommunity Forum Recent Threads - Thu, 03/13/2014 - 20:11
My new Roamio Plus and Minis are scheduled to arrive Monday. I've been reading up on networking options so I can hit the ground running. MoCA networking is a new concept to me. As I understand it, my Roamio Plus has a built in MoCA adapter. Here's my situation: main TV is located in basement without wired Ethernet connection. It is, however, only about 15' from my ATT Uverse wireless router and has excellent wifi reception. I would prefer to have the Roamio attached to this TV. TV2 and TV3 both have wired Ethernet connection. All TVs have existing coax hookup.

Can I use wifi for the Roamio's internet connection and MoCA to network with the minis? Or, should I place the Roamio on TV2 and use a Mini on the basement TV? Thanks in advance for any assistance.

What is the safest way to power down a TiVo?

TiVoCommunity Forum Recent Threads - Thu, 03/13/2014 - 18:34
There is a "stand by" mode and a "restart" function, but there is no "power down" option (at least none I can find in the menus). So just what is the safest way to power down a TiVo?

Option 1: Put the TiVo into stand by mode, then yank the power cord.

Option 2: Tell the TiVo to "restart", then yank the power cord at the moment the power seems to cut off

Option 3: Put all tuners on a non-existent channel so the hard drive stops spinning, then yank the power cord out

Option 4: To hell with it, just yank the power cord out.

Anyone have any thoughts on this?

New Hard Drive - don't care about old collection

TiVoCommunity Forum Recent Threads - Thu, 03/13/2014 - 16:46
My Tivo Series 3 HD hard drive is failing. I don't care about any of the shows I have saved. Must I install the Tivo software before replacing the drive, or will Tivo download and install it for me? All the threads I have seen relate to preserving recorded shows, but as I said, I just want to start with a clean install.
Thanks for any input.

CBS Renews Almost Everything

TiVoCommunity Forum Recent Threads - Thu, 03/13/2014 - 13:00

CBS' 20-strong returning slate includes comedies 2 Broke Girls, Mike & Molly and Two and a Half Men -- as well as freshmen The Millers and Mom. On the drama side, NCIS, NCIS: LA, Person of Interest, CSI, Hawaii Five-0, Blue Bloods, Criminal Minds, Elementary and The Good Wife will all be back for additional seasons.

With reality shows The Amazing Race and Undercover Boss and venerable news series 60 Minutes and 48 hours also scoring renewals, the only question marks in the massive order are freshman comedy The Crazy Ones, veteran drama The Mentalist and midseason offerings Intelligence and Friends With Better Lives -- the latter of which has yet to premiere.

Roamio Interface question

TiVoCommunity Forum Recent Threads - Thu, 03/13/2014 - 12:16
I am new to Roamio interface and am coming from years of Series 3 HD experience. I am not able to figure out the following:
1) When I am playing a recording and I press the back button (or Tivo button) I immediately go to TIVO menu screen but the recording keeps playing in the top right corner. So how do I make that recording full screen again?
2) Also, is there anyway to pause that recording like it used to on Series 3 when I press the back button? I don't want it to go on in that little window. I know I can press the pause button first and then press the back button, etc. but series 3 did that automatically.
3) Is there any way to turn off Tivo suggestion recordings? It records by itself but I don't want that. It never did that on Series 3 or maybe I changed that option somehow and don't remember now.

Any suggestions on how to get these issues fixed would be very helpful.

Roamio at Sam's Club

This past weekend I was surprised and pleased to see the new Roamio on sale at the local Sam's Club. I think it is great to see them extend their exposure. A few months back, they had huge window covering ads at the MSP airport too.

Soon to be Roamio owner Cable Card question

TiVoCommunity Forum Recent Threads - Thu, 03/13/2014 - 10:14
Hi all. I should have my Roamio within the next week to 10 days. I currently have a Motorola "M" cable card activated and working in my Sony DHG DVR. When my Roamio arrives, can I simply pop it in to the Roamio or will I need to waste untold hours on the phone with my cable provider to "pair" the card to the Roamio? Thanks for any help.

The Originals "Farewell To Storyville" 3/11/2014

Rebekah is gone. Sad because I grew to really like her character. Apparently, Claire Holt didn't want to do the show any more. I didn't know that so when Klaus stabbed her with the white oak stake I was all like "Bleep this bleeping show!" It wasn't until after she said her goodbyes and was driving away that it sunk in that she was really exiting the show.

Unfortunately, there are no other female characters I care that much about on this show. Witches get on my nerves in general. Haley's werewolf family drama doesn't interest me. I hope Marcel isn't being marginalized now that he's been banished from the French Quarter. He was by far the best character on this show.

One thing I've noticed is that none of the vampires in the Vampire Diaries/Originals universe seem to have jobs. I can buy into the idea that hundreds years old vampires have access to ancestral wealth although I'd still be living from check to check if that were me. What about the vampires who were more recently made? They don't seem to do anything all day but congregate whenever Marcel or Klaus tells them to. Do the rules of economics change once you come back from the dead? How do they pay rent or buy the cool, trendy clothes they wear? Aiden on Being Human is the only vamp with a job on the supernatural shows that I watch.

Sad but not surprising -- the Roloffs have separated

They haven't gotten along in years, so this can't come as a surprise, but it is still sad.

Survivor "Our Time to Shine" OAD 3/12/14 *spoilers*

TiVoCommunity Forum Recent Threads - Thu, 03/13/2014 - 02:01
I'm starting an episode thread because Survivor is not a show that should have a season thread. Also, because I was pissed that the season thread showed up in my User CP list at about 6:00 pm with spoilers for the episode that hadn't even aired yet. At least with a separate thread, I get to choose when to subscribe to it vs. having the episode spoiled because of being subscribed to the season thread.

So Brains really sucked in this episode. Twice they should have finished in second place and twice their incompetence (mostly J'Tia's) allows the Brawn tribe to catch and pass them. Although what chance did Spencer really have to win a basketball challenge against Cliff Robinson?

And how crazy is it how well the Beauty tribe is performing in the challenges. They killed it both times in this episode.

Speaking of that, when was the last time we had an episode with a reward challenge and then an immunity challenge? I think it's been a couple seasons.

Brains made the right choice. J'Tia was worthless in challenges, and Spencer provides just as much loyalty going forward, and he can actually perform well in the challenges, too. Although it will be interesting to see how loyal those three are to each other if/when they get split up due to a Switch or Merge.

Mini and Roamio in the same room?

TiVoCommunity Forum Recent Threads - Thu, 03/13/2014 - 00:44
Can a Roamio & Mini sit side by side with out ""IR"" crash?

The reason that I ask is that my Roamio is set up for off air recordings.
I have a Premier-4 that will be set up for my local cable system.

I "Thought" that since 90% of the programming that my wife and I watch is recorded and watched later.. streaming from the "P-4" to the Roamio would not be an issue..

But tonight the wife laid down the law that she wants to "Channel Surf".
I really don't want to have to pay for cable box rental!!
}} I originally thought that one of the P-4 tuners could be assigned to the Roamio for 'LIVE Channel Surfing'.. while I know I can stream.. just can not "Surf" ?? If the MINI can do it why can't the Roamio?? {{

I need to keep the Roamio for off air programming due to disputes with local cable and broadcast stations.. may loose two stations due to the disputes.

Need help with a drive & MFSlive

TiVoCommunity Forum Recent Threads - Wed, 03/12/2014 - 20:40
Im working on a what I thought was a bad drive in a Premiere, it is stuck at the powering up screen and couldn't kickstart 54 it to test the drive.

I have created a MFSlive boot cd, hooked up the drive out of the premeire and booted the live cd. I thought there was a text menu but I see that it's just a command line only.

Need help with basic MFS commands, what do I do to list the drive and at the least see if the drive is bad or not? The drive is recognized to the computer and I presume to MFS but I'm Linux dummy, I know enough to be dangerous and that's all! I saw the command line generator over at the MFSlive site but those are strictly operational guides to accomplish drive copy and expansion task, I need to first just get my feet wet with the command line without killing anything.

If possible I would like to back the drive up if it's accessible and copy the image to another drive as I have several around that should work.

Nube Season Pass Question

TiVoCommunity Forum Recent Threads - Wed, 03/12/2014 - 20:35
Simple question, I think. Is there a limit on the number of Season passes you can set.

It is possible to view the season pass manger from an android APP, is it possible to do the same from a PC?

kmttg recordings transfer to play at the end

TiVoCommunity Forum Recent Threads - Wed, 03/12/2014 - 20:07
I have some weird stuff going on with my pulls from my Roamio after I pull them from a new PC i have running kmttg (just set up a new PC to run kmttg), when I go to play them on the Roamio, the show starts at end and the Tivo ask's if I want to delete it as if I have already watched it.

I found that if I hit the rewind button. I can back all the way up the beginning and play the recording.

This is something new to me, any ideas of what might be going on?

Watch General Hospital

TiVoCommunity Forum Recent Threads - Wed, 03/12/2014 - 19:00
My Roamio didn't record General Hospital today. It did, but OTA signal was messed up for some reason, so it's just a mess of junk. Is there anyway to watch it online? I know ABC has an app and website, but they require you to login with your cable provider info, and I'm OTA only.

Setting up Moca on Premier XL and Romio

TiVoCommunity Forum Recent Threads - Wed, 03/12/2014 - 15:50
I have a premier XL and a Romio Plus I want to establish a moca connection between the two.

I have one moca adaptor for the premier.

I want to set up the premier box at my cable modem in a bedroom and have the moca run to my living room to the newer Romio Plus box.

Can I do this with the current parts I have? I do not have an ethernet connection in the living room for the Romio. Can I still have the moca setup in my bedroom on the premier and then establish the connection with the romio plus in my living room.

Any suggestions on how I would get the two to work would be appreciated.

Cannot get logitech harmony one to work correctly with Roamio Plus

TiVoCommunity Forum Recent Threads - Wed, 03/12/2014 - 15:14
I recently acquired a roamio plus which I set up with harmony one universal remote. I cannot get the Menu key to work (which is mapped to "Tivo").
The weird thing is that the extra button configured on the LCD named "Tivo"
(also mapped to "Tivo") works fine.

Any one had problems with getting the Menu button to work?

Also for some reason, I cannot get the Harmony to learn IR codes from the Tivo remote.

Charter in St. Louis

TiVoCommunity Forum Recent Threads - Wed, 03/12/2014 - 12:59
After reading on the forums about all the problems with TiVo & Charter I was really nervous about buying a TiVo. I decided to just go through with it and see what happened (that's what return policies are for!).

I purchased my TiVo from Best Buy on Saturday. My boyfriend is the account holder for Charter, so I had to wait until he was off of work to go get the cable card and TA from them. We went this morning to grab them. It was kind of funny, I think the lady at Charter was a little confused, because she told me that with the cable card and TiVo that I wouldn't be able to record anything. I think she meant that I won't be able to access VOD- but I digress.

I got home and was finally able to open the new toy that has been sitting on my living room floor for a few days!! Gave Charter a call and paired the cable card. Piece of cake. I went to hook up the TA. Uh-oh. I figured this is where the bad luck begins. They didn't give me the USB-A cord for the TA. I went to Best Buy to grab a cord. I work for Best Buy so what I paid for the usb cord was worth more than going back to Charter and trying to get one.

I got home, held my breath and plugged in the TA to the TiVo.

It worked. I couldn't believe it. I was expecting to have to call Charter at least 3 more times, but I'm online with no issues now! Everything is working great!

I just wanted to share a positive story with people like me who may be nervous to dive into the TiVo pool.

tl;dr Was nervous about getting a TiVo after reading horror stories, but Charter activated it with no problems.
