Can you cast from TiVo iPad app to Chromecast?

TiVoCommunity Forum Recent Threads - Tue, 02/11/2014 - 09:48
The ability to watch content from my Roamio Pro on my iPad when I'm traveling is great. It'd be even better if, when I'm a hotel room for example, I could cast from my iPad to my Chromecast dongle plugged into the hotel room TV.

Is that possible?

If not, is there some other way to achieve the same thing (watching my Roamio content on my hotel room TV)?

Is this installer correct?

TiVoCommunity Forum Recent Threads - Tue, 02/11/2014 - 08:47
I’m using a Tivo Slide Pro with my Roamio and a new Sony receiver. I’ve got it paired fine to the Sony but the range is very short and won’t work with the cabinet door closed. I asked the installer if he could get the volume working with more range. He said the Roamio does not have an IR out that could be used as a blaster to connect to the Sony receiver. He’s saying he needs to add an IR receiver to the Sony to get this working.

Is this correct?

I think its the hard drive

TiVoCommunity Forum Recent Threads - Tue, 02/11/2014 - 07:37
Several months ago, I got a used Tivo HD 652160 from a friend. I hooked it up and used it briefly. It appeared to work fine, but then I simply stored it away (since the account was basically closed and it didn't have lifetime). I was going to essentially use it for parts for another 652160 lifetime if needed.

I recently pulled it out again and booted it up. Initially, it booted up fine, but then I moved it into another room and it hung up during the reboot. I unplugged it and plugged back in. It then apparently rebooted 3 times on the 'Welcome, Powering Up' screen, but after the 3rd reboot, it did make it to the "Almost there" screen, but only briefly where it then rebooted.

Judging from what I have read here, I figured this was probably the hard drive (since it did get past the 'Welcome, powering up' screen). I therefore pulled the top off. I couldn't see any buldging caps on the power supply, but I did notice that the hard drive is some sort of WD "Green" drive so its obviously not its original hard drive.

It made me think two things are possibly going on here:

A) "intellipark" is not properly disabled on this drive and I need to run wdidle3 on it.

B) The drive is going bad.

In either case, I am gonna pull the drive and put it in a desktop where I will then run a FULL WD diagnostic to see if it returns any errors. If no errors are reported, then I am gonna try to run wdidle3 on it. If errors are reported, I have a spare 250GB drive I can use (with a WinMFS image)

Does this sound about right for how I should approach this? Or is it most likely going to be a drive problem and "intellipark" doesn't behave this way?

Hulu Lands Fraggles Spinoff, Minus The Puppets

Zatz Not Funny! - Tue, 02/11/2014 - 06:51

By way of Gigaom, we learn that Hulu is launching The Doozers this spring. The computer-animated series, consisting of 52 11-minute episodes, is aimed at preschoolers… and is sadly puppet-free. Of course, Fraggle Rock was a Jim Henson creation and one of HBO’s very first original titles debuting way back in 1983 — and a show […]

remote won't control volume on marantz receiver

TiVoCommunity Forum Recent Threads - Tue, 02/11/2014 - 06:08
I'm trying to set up the volume control for my Marantz receiver to work with my Tivo remote but I'm having difficulty. I have a Marantz NR1501 and have entered all the codes provided by Tivo.
The remote is for the Tivo Roamio that I just purchased. I have a Tivo premier and the remote for that is programmed to work with my receiver but I can't get my new remote to pair.
Thanks, Logan

How do I get rid of the starred advertising videos?

There are videos like "Julie Chu's Favorite Video" that seem to be sponsored by companies. They lag menu navigation while they load. How do I get rid of this?

8 second skip back on streaming services?

TiVoCommunity Forum Recent Threads - Mon, 02/10/2014 - 23:01
Hi all,

I've been googling, but to no avail. Does the 8 second skip back work on streaming services like HBO GO or xfinity? Or just on recorded shows?

Thanks!

Premiere XL4 cannot receive local digital channels

TiVoCommunity Forum Recent Threads - Mon, 02/10/2014 - 21:16
I got a Premiere XL4 off eBay a couple weeks ago. I already have two regular 2-tuner Premieres. My cable company, Baja Broadband, who is behind in the times, still has analog channels, and a handful of digital channels. My Premieres can receive all the digital and analog channels that I have subscribed to, which is understandable.

My XL4, which is digital only, cannot receive analog channels, which I expected, HOWEVER, I am finding that I cannot receive the local channels (ABC, CBS, NBC and FOX) which is broadcast in digital HD. I can receive all other digital channels, such as ESPN HD, Discovery Channel HD, CNN HD, etc. just fine. What gives? My cable company says that the local channels are unencrypted, while the other channels are encrypted. They tried three different cable cards, none of them made a difference. They even brought my TiVo to their "lab" to try to figure this out and was unsuccessful. So they said my TiVo is defective? Is that even true?

Roamio is so over-priced (pushing ads is too much)

TiVoCommunity Forum Recent Threads - Mon, 02/10/2014 - 18:45
I'm okay with a high-priced item. I've been a Tivo subscriber for well over a decade now. But now that Tivo is pumping ads thru the interface and continuing to charge exorbitant fees for not only the primary box but also the Mini, it has gone way too far.

Having to pay a service fee for a Mini and also having to put up with ads in the interface is disgraceful on Tivo's part.

Even Amazon gives people the option of buying without adds. Tivo has really sunk to a low here.

Cable card problem and resolution

TiVoCommunity Forum Recent Threads - Mon, 02/10/2014 - 13:56
Thought I'd put this up in case anyone else runs into this situation.
Last Friday, immediately after the C133 error problem was fixed, I wound up not getting any channels other than my locals. I have two TiVOs, and everything was fine on the HD but not on the Roamio Basic. I called TiVO, who went thru the Cable Card settings with me, which showed that, for whatever reasons, it appeared that the Card was not paired correctly (the CSR did not feel it was C133-related, but I think it was very coincidental). We both then conference d with the cable dept. at Comcast, who verified the #'s, sent a couple of signals, but nothing worked. The thought was a bad Card, and suggested I swap at the local office the next day.
This morning, I removed the card, and thought...why not try re-inserting it and see what happens. Well what happened was...all the channels came thru! I called TiVO and together we checked the CableCard screen, and everything was correct. So...if something similar happens to you, try that. No clue from TiVO as to why that happened, tho he tended to blame Comcast. In any case, I'm happy (for now).

Cable channel authorization issues with TiVo

TiVoCommunity Forum Recent Threads - Mon, 02/10/2014 - 12:20
I have been having an ongoing issue with my cable company and since I believe many of the people here are much more knowledgeable than the service techs they send out, I want to see if anyone has any ideas what could be going on.

I have a TiVo Premiere with cable (using M card) will suddenly start showing the message "You are not authorized to receive this channel. Please contact your cable company."

The message is very specific that it's not a signal issue and that is a channel authorization issue. As a matter of fact, when it happened last week I received the EBS test message, all the while having the "channel not authorized" message on the screen.

When it happens, I can receive ALL channels under 100, and any local channel over 100 (which happens to be the HD locals). Every other channel besides those will give me the "not authorized" message.

When I call in, the instant they send a refresh signal to the cable card, the issue is resolved until the next time.

It usually happens on the den unit, although it has happened twice on the bedroom TiVo. I thought it might be the cable card, so I installed a new one. I have also recently replaced the TiVo unit with a brand new machine and it's happened with the new TiVo as well.

Another strange thing is that 95% of the time it happens on Sunday, which is naturally the day when nobody is in the office to send the refresh signal, so I have to wait until Monday morning. That could just be bad luck, or I'm also wondering if there is something they "run" on Sundays that is causing the issue.

This has happened at least 50 times....maybe more. It's been an ongoing issue for a while and they've sent people out but I can tell that have no idea what's causing the issue. All they try to do is get me to use their DVR. As annoying as it is, if they had someone to refresh the signal 24/7 I wouldn't be as irritated, but as it is now I live in fear for my Sunday night tv viewing because I may or may not be able to watch.

Anyone here have any thoughts?

how to re-build tv guide listings without erasing session pass?

TiVoCommunity Forum Recent Threads - Mon, 02/10/2014 - 12:02
I recently moved to an new location but have the same TV provider and same cable card just new zip code (moved about 10 minutes away). My problem is the zip code changed my tv listings so how do you re-program the tv listings without erasing session pass or to do list or my shows? Some session pass shows due to tv channel changed when moved do not record.

Is a 1T My Book AV DVR Expander the largest a PRO can handle?

TiVoCommunity Forum Recent Threads - Mon, 02/10/2014 - 10:29
We already own multiple 1T Western Digital My Book Expanders (and I see they can be hooked-up to the PRO), but is 1T the only size that can be used? I see Amazon sells a 3T MyBook but I have no idea if that would work on the PRO?

Is there a limit as to what size the external drive can be?

Moved over from the Hopper and loving Tivo

TiVoCommunity Forum Recent Threads - Mon, 02/10/2014 - 10:26
I moved over about 2 weeks ago after about 6 years away from Tivo. I have Roamio Plus with two minis. So far I am loving it. The interface is silky smooth and its wife/kid approved. My install went quickly even with a cabled card and tuning adapter and it all "just works". My wife mentioned that she misses having the commercials chopped out but that a small nit.

These may be features that I just don't know about, but I would have three asks to make my situation perfect....
1) Allow the mini to initiate a pull of video from Tivo Desktop
2) Some easy way to get my videos with DTS or 7.1 transferred to the roamio
3) Remote finders on the mini's

Can PRO remote control turn sound system on/off?

TiVoCommunity Forum Recent Threads - Mon, 02/10/2014 - 10:10
I see on the TiVo screen an option that says:

Part 2: A/V volume and mute

I've gotten the remote to change the volume and mute, but how do I get it to turn it off? Does the remote control indeed do that? The TiVo site says it does... but I'm not sure how to do it?

From TiVo:

Control power, input, volume and mute of your TV and/or audio receiver.

I don't see where it actually powers the sound system on and off though.

HDMI Connection Not Permitted on Roamio

TiVoCommunity Forum Recent Threads - Mon, 02/10/2014 - 10:07
I have been having issues with my Roamio and Roamio Pro when connected to a Sony Receiver. On my Pro, I got around the "HDMI Connection Not Permitted" error by connecting the Pro directly to my TV and then digital audio out to the receiver. But my base Roamio was connected to the same model Sony (STR-DN1000) and then a projector. I have to connect to the receiver first. On the base Roamio, I was getting flashing green screens, not the HDMI error. I had another Onkyo receiver that I was able to swapout w/ the Sony and all worked great - for about a week. Now I get this "HDMI Connection Not Permitted" error. The detailed error talks about the TV not supporting HDCP. I have used this TV/Receiver/HDMI cables combo for 7+ years with DTV receivers with no issues or errors. I have tried three different HDMI 1.3 ver cables with no luck. I am at a loss as to what I need to do to get the Roamio to work with the receiver and projector. My only workaround for now is to use one of my Minis in the room to view recordings, but I'd like to get the Roamio, Receiver, Projector combo working again, like it did the first week after connecting it to the Onkyo receiver.

If anyone has run into this issue on a Roamio and has some ideas, I'd love to hear them. Thanks in advance.
