Sorry for starting a new thread for this, but my searches point me to several different threads here.
I've been lurking for a while and researching drive options, but now I'm forced to take some action.
My Tivo HD began acting odd recently when the weather changed. It would "stall" randomly and sometimes selections would "double click" when I knew I had only pressed select once. I had similar issues about a year ago, and running a kickstart 57 seemed to help. So, again without taking precautions, I ran it again. This seemed to have put it in a loop where it "powers up" then is a "few more minutes" then the Green Screen of Death before it reboots and does it all over again.
Initially, I figured it was repairing and just had to reboot to commit the changes or something so I let it loop overnight. The next morning it was still looping.
After seeing the loop was seemingly infinite, I decided to pull the drive and run dd_rescue from the MFSlive CD. Despite having some minor AIX experience, I wasn't able to get the live CD to boot. It would halt right about the time the USB keyboard was detected. Then I saw it doesn't work on AMD procs, so I tried it on an Intel box with the same results.
Now I'm looking at using GNU ddrescue from an Ubuntu live CD in hopes I can clone the flaky drive to a known good new in box WD Blue Caviar.
In summary, I still don't have a grasp on the following:
- Has anyone _ever_ recovered from the looping GSOD? I can't find any posts if they did.
- How do I use the dd_rescue on the MFSLive CD? Is it my PC hardware that is halting it? Would Ubuntu know how to rescue the drive?
There's two videos on the drive I wanted to salvage if possible and I know it's encrypted. I have checked the capacitors and they look good on the boards. I'm somewhat embarrassed asking for help since I have had Unix experience and I have a background in communications electronics.
My TiVo wrangling PC is acting up and I fear it's not long for this world.
Need a board with at least one IDE controller and at least 2 SATA ports, that can run XP, even if not all that quickly.
Should fit ATX case and ideally have a depth closer to 8" than to 9 or 10.
(I've got an old tower case from the Slot 1 days when ATX was new and the slot instead of socket configuration meant boards were as wide as before but not very deep.)
If there's a CPU and fan, and some RAM included, that would be a definite plus, and the I/O shield, manual, and driver disk would be appreciated as well.
I know a lot of people stopped watching this, but last night's episode was awesome. They showed the origin of The Flash!
The ending of the episode was everything I was hoping for.
I did a few searches and did not find anything. Is there any news about taking this to other markets? What are the limitations for them? Thanks!
As I contemplate my system upgrade with my in-transit Roamio Plus, I have different need I haven't seen expressed here.
I currently have 2 premiers, and connect them via the component outputs to the home theater system in the livingroom, but also take the composite output on both system and modulate them on unused analog cable channels. I then repeat the IR remote signals back to the units via twisted pair.
One of the advantages of this setup is that we can watch the same recorded program on multiple sets throughout the house. Is there any combination of Roamios, Minis (and Premiers) that will allow viewing the same program on multiple sets simultaneously?
Need the ability to have ability to program an IR 'sleep' button - a must for our bedroom mini's. I don't want to invest another 50 or 100 on a replacement remote. I'd even go for using the 'input' key if possible to use the tv's sleep IR cmd.

‘Tis the season of giving, and in keeping with this theme TiVo is proud to announce Operation Home Screen! We at TiVo appreciate our U.S. Military and to show this we will be giving a TiVo Roamio Plus with Product Lifetime Service to 50 families of service men and women at Camp Pendleton in San Diego, California. This way, the men and women who serve our country can still watch their favorite sports teams, be connected to their local news, and access their favorite shows wherever they’re stationed in the Continue Reading
Surprised there was no thread yet, everyone losing interest?
I thought this was a decent episode as setup for hopefully something interesting in the next one.
What advantage were the new extremis soldiers getting by being virtually covered with those caterpillar devices as opposed to the single one that the other guy had.
Drat! I was mostly convinced Monica was going to flip and hoping that she would. I was also hoping this would be the end of RI, but I was pretty sure it wasn't. It just doesn't feel right starting the last episode with over 1/3 of the players still in the game.
Ciera winning the challenge was a good lesson in not giving up but I would bet big that lightning doesn't strike twice.
As for the final RI challenge, I hope Hayden wins it and goes on to win it all.
Dalton's recap: http://tvrecaps.ew.com/recap/survivo...er-episode-13/
I have my roamio plus -- and purchased 2 mini's to replace 2 of my tivo HD's
I have two more tivo hd's in my house that we never really use. (in a guest room and the garage)
We use very little of the roamio's capacity. Only 3 person household and 1 is a toddler who watches little TV
Our hard drive is always less than 5% full.
One of my tivo HD's died. (the one in the guest room) It has lifetime so tivo wants to give me a 2-tuner premiere for it
for free or I could pay half price and get a tivo mini.
I would rather the mini because then i have 1 tivo (roamio) doing all the recording and the mini lets me access that same list without transferring, it's just instant access.
a 2-tuner premiere doesn't do that right???
it just seems silly to pay for the mini when I could get the two tuner premiere for free.
but i have to admit i love having the mini's and just 1 main tivo.
i ideally would have all mini's and 1 main tivo, so that i can access the same recording list no matter where i am in the house.
what would you do?
2 tuner premiere or multi room instant viewing mini
The new Quickflix (replacing CASPA) is now available on TIVO in NZ - yipee..
However, i can't use it. can anyone help.
ALL the options available to me (i've found 3 so far), assume that a person is NOT a member of quickflix, & asks you to create an account.
i am a member of quickflix, & i can't join / link my Tivo, because it tells me i'ma lready a member & asks me to log in (i *AM* logged into tivo, and to quickflix)..
Ps - i've tried just joining, & also the transfer caspa balance options - both dont work (as above)..
Can anyone sucessfully join their TIVo to quickflix that is ALREADY a member of quickflix ?
Thank you for any step-by-step guidance.
With all the digital information in the video stream you would think a TIVO could tell when a program actually started and ended.
Especially since the TIVO clock is not synchronized with the cable and station clocks; and since many stations are not accurate on their schedules.
I frequently get 30 seconds of the previous program and minutes chopped off the end.
Worked until just recently, now no folders show, just all the files and all have red x next t them. Reinstalled pyTivo on another machine with OS 10.8.5 instead of 10.7 and same problem. Really miss being able to load videos onto the tivo from Mac!
When I press the B button to sort by date on the Roamio, can the highlight please go to the top of the list. The latest recordings are at the top of the list.
Is there a way to set a sleep mode on the mini? Or a way to 'teach' the remote my tv's sleep command?
I use it in my bedroom, and not being able to 'sleep' is making it very un-wifey...
- or -
Does the roamio remote work with the mini? And is it 'learning' capable?
I just noticed on my roamio basic, which is connected with an Ethernet cable, that the 2 lights on the Ethernet jack are always lit solid. There is a green light, and an orange light. Even when I unplug the Ethernet cable, they are lit solid. Is this normal ?
Just got off Tivo for the second time tonight...very frustrating. Came home tonight and the mini's moca link was down. Did the usual (reset mini, XL4, airport extreme) and that didn't really change anything.
-XL4 is the moca/ethernet bridge. Working great now for 5+ months. Link status on XL4 shows down.
-Mini is able to see live TV. Link status is up. Unable to see the guide and My Shows gives an error message about unable to see the XL4. Can connect to Tivo service. Network status on mini shows lots of data being sent and shows the peer node mac address that matches the XL4.
During the power cycle on the mini, screen froze on the issue mentioned in the post "New Mini Issue". Just a blue circle that was doing nothing. Recycled power again and it came up.
My guess, and I'm no expert, is that there might have been an update to the mini today that is causing these problems. Maybe it was to the XL4...who knows. Both show different software versions, but that might be normal since they are different platforms.
Called up Tivo...asked customer service if there was an update today and he didn't know.
Has anyone experienced something like this? I'd like to add another mini to the moca network, but there's no way the wife will allow that if I can't get this working. Please help!
