I've been using a Mac with EyeTV and Apple TVs for several years for my DVR duties and so got used to things being a certain way. So getting started with TiVo is a learning experience. For the most part it's been good. But there are some deficiencies that I haven't figured out yet, and I don't know if it's because I'm missing something or that they just can't be done.
1. Season Passes - This is easy and looks to be better than EyeTV. But there are a couple of scenarios that don't work for me. First, for daily programs that I only want recorded on one day. An example is PBS News Hour. I only want to record it on Friday. EyeTV would let me set up the recording on Friday and then specify that it recurs weekly. Second, daily shows that are aired twice. An example is BBC news, which airs at 2:30 and repeats at 4. I only want to record the one at 4. Are there any way to get around these problems?
2. Organization - There are shows that my wife watches, others that I watch, and yet others that we both watch. Is there any way to group shows into folders?
3. Recording that have been viewed - My wife is not very good at housekeeping (TV shows, not the house!) and depends on my to clean up and get rid of old shows. But I don't see any indicator of whether a recording has been viewed or not. I must be missing something, because this would seem like a pretty obvious feature.
I guess that's all for now. I love the iPad app. I just wish it would allow Airplay, because I'd love to be able to watch on my Mac.
I'm having streaming issues with my Roamio Plus. It will stream fine for 30 minutes or more, but then the video will eventually freeze. After I restart the stream, it will only play for a few minutes before freezing again.
I'm using an old Linksys WRT54GL router. Could that be the problem? Netflix and Amazon stream fine.
Thanks for your help.
I'm certain this has been asked many times, but cannot find the thread despite numerous searches.
I want to change the folder where Tivo recordings are stored to a removable drive (SD card or USB flash drive). Tivo desktop will not allow me to do so (OK button grayed out).
Similarly, existing recordings in the Tivo folder cannot be copied to removable media.
Any guidance welcome. Sorry for posting such a basic question.
Have an R10, that has been inactive since earlier this spring. Wanted to view some of my previously recorded programs. Hooked it up, and it booted up fine, then went through all the DirecTV blue screens, till it got to DirecTV Home Central. Clicked on the Now Playing list, and then the unit (by itself) rebooted again, and then would not get past the Powering Up screen.
Did DirecTV send some kind of kill code, to prevent me from using my (unsubscribed) R10 anymore? I called, and tried to reactivate it again, but it still would not get past the Powering Up screen.
Is this thing permanently dead now? Can I do anything, to try to get it to work again? I would like to try to save all my recorded programs, if I could.
Anybody have any help, or suggestions in this situation?
Most of the time when I do use the Xfinity Ondemand as soon as press watch the screen freezes and won't play out until I restart my Tivo Premiere. Anyone else experience this problem? Also why can't they make the interface Menu as good as the real Comcast of Ondemand?
Despite a rocky launch and Chromecast availability, Google TV soldiers on. And, at $100, the Vizio Costar is the most economical of the bunch. After a number of software updates, including availability of a full-on Amazon Instant app, the Costar warrants a look. Also unique at this price point is Google TV‘s HDMI pass-thru functionality, […]

"The Cheat is Grounded!"
I like the fact that they're actually driving around Pasadena.
So far this fall season I have been underwhelmed by just about all the new shows...
and then along came Super Fun Night.
I thought it was great - great cast, funny and loved Rebel Wilson.
The piano bar sing off might have been an ode to Pitch Perfect's popularity.
I'm looking forward to seeing how it progresses.
With Modern Family as its lead-in ABC has a great comedy hour on its hands.

My wife refuses to start a show other than the start. With that being said, I've set up an SP that has already caught a bunch of episodes of Castle, broadcast on TNT. But we would also like to record the current season.
I can't figure out how to accomplish this. It must be easy. When I search for Castle, my only option is to modify or cancel the SP we currently have.
Any help appreciated.
The Millers "Pilot" 10/03/2013
Every review ripped it. Couldn't find one positive mention. And yet I liked it.
Was it perfect? No, it's a sitcom pilot, it takes time. But Margo Martindale is a riot. And Beau Bridges nailed his role (although they could ease up on the dumb just a tad...). I could watch those two all half-hour. The rest of the cast are good enough. Will Arnett will never be in anything as good as AD, but he was ok here.
Watched it with my wife, she also liked it.
Even the fart jokes, which every reviewer ripped ("Really? Fart jokes?" said every reviewer), were funny.
I'm not sure why I felt the need to call this a Season 1 thread. I can't imagine a world where this will see a second season. Seth MacFarlane is involved in this? I have a hard time believing it. I feel like maybe he came to FOX with a show and they changed it into whatever this POS is. It was terrible.
I was really really trying to find something to laugh at and I just couldn't. The cast is wonderful and very talented. Doesn't Giovanni Ribisi have an Oscar? I can't believe he would stoop to this.
Is anyone else watching?
Anyone else watch this? I never saw the original one, nor even know about it until I heard about this reincarnation of it.
For me, so far, so good. I like Blair Underwood's cop character. I just hope that they don't keep doing the flashback thing and only used it in the pilot to show how he get injured.
I currently have a 2-tuner Premiere and a 4-tuner Premiere, both with lifetime. I'm thinking about replacing the 2-tuner box with another 4-tuner one (yes, sometimes we need more than 6 tuners). Tivo has the basic Roamio (4-tuner) for $200 (plus service) but the basic 4-tuner Premiere is listed at $250 (or $190 factory renewed). Am I missing something here or is Tivo just discouraging the purchase of the older boxes?
I have a Tivo Premiere with Lifetime (about 2 years old). When I plug the unit it the green power light lights up, after about 45 seconds or so all the lights flash on the front panel and then the unit goes back to power-up mode again with just the green power light lit up. Another 45 seconds later all the light flash on the front panel and well, same thing over and over.
There is no display on the TV, actually when the Tivo is powered up the TV displays a message that the resolution mode is invalid.
I've swapped out the HD with a known good drive. I've swapped out the power supply. Neither provided any resolution. So, any other ideas on what I should try next? Really hate to lose the lifetime service after only 2 years.
I am past due for a smartphone upgrade, and my HTC Thunderbolt shows it. But after going big (as in screen size) two years ago to get a phone with Verizon LTE, I’m more determined than ever to find a model this time around that fits a little more snugly in my pocket. The good [...]
The post Why Do I Have to Compromise for a “Mini” Phone? appeared first on Zatz Not Funny!.
First post. I am migrating from DirecTV to TWC in order to [re]implement TiVo. We have had RoadRunner here for 7 years, so I was told by the TWC sales group that all they had to do was switch the TV feed on and then it was up to equipment installation in the house as to when the TV feeds would be accessible. I purchased a Roamio and Mini and visited the local TWC office for a CableCARD and tuning adapter. Initial installation was attempted last night.
After three hours on the phone, I had nothing but a scheduled service call. I called and tried to have the CableCARD initialized again this morning, to no avail. The tech suggested that the card might be bad. I returned it to the TWC office and got a replacement. The replacement resulted in the same outcome.
Along the process, a few techs insisted that even though the card and tuner were failing, I could still get basic channels by connecting the TWC feed to a panel with a tuner. I tried that later today and there are no channels at all.
Another call to TWC support developed the suggestion that there might be a TV trap installed at the pole. I now have a tech visit scheduled for tomorrow for removal of the trap.
I've read an article about traps and it seems reasonable as the reason the card activation group could see the card and tuner and attempt to activate them both, but there was no signal reaching the hardware.
I'm hopeful about the visit tomorrow fixing things, but skeptical as well and wondering what the TiVo Community thought about the current situation.
I normally carry my tivo onboard with me but I am not taking that much clothes so there is room in my check in bag to put it in there. If I surround it with clothes do you think it would safe to fly from California to NYC?
