I know everything says that the TiVo (and built in Stream) have to be on the same subnet as the iOS device. I understand why that is said too. Due to the Bonjour discovery process it goes much easier if everything is on the same subnet (broadcasts don't normally get passed between subnets). This is similar to Airplay in that regards.
The thing is that while it is easier, it is technically not required for Bonjour discovery to work. With the proper routers you can relay mDNS/Bonjour (5353) across subnets just fine. I have a MOCA subnet (FIOS), a wired subnet, and a wireless subnet. With the traffic designated appropriately. This has been working just fine for years and I have Airplay working across subnets just fine by using mDNS relay.
I just got a new Roamio Plus and can not get it to stream between my wired and wireless network. The Roamio is on the wired subnet and I have a Ipad on the wireless subnet. mDNS is set up just fine. Discovery works. The iOS app can see and connect to the TiVo just fine. I can view the guide, my shows, start recordings, etc just fine from the Ipad app. My Ipad can find the built in Stream. When, in the app, I go to sys info, I can see the details on the Stream and it all looks good. I can go to Full Sys Info and it looks good. So while I can find/see the Stream as well and find/control the DVR, I can not complete the Streaming Setup and actually stream/download from the Roamio to the Ipad. As a note, if I disable mDNS relay, sure enough, the app can not fine the Stream or DVR at all (as expected) and I get the appropriate error when the app starts up period. So again the discovery is obviously working.
When I try to stream or complete the streaming setup I get the following error:
"Network Problem: streaming device to DVR. The streaming device cannot contact the DVR."
Now elsewhere in the setup process, "streaming device" seems to refer to the Stream. If so, the error makes no since since the Stream is integrated into the Roamio. But anyways for some reason even though everything can see each other, it will not stream. I have checked logs as well as a packet monitor and I can see that the Stream IP address connects to and communicates with the Ipad IP address. As far as I can tell the iOS app makes some assumptions (and is coded) that everything is on the same subnet such that even if the discovery works and everything can see each other, actual streaming still fails.
In addition to mDNS relay (which is sufficient for Bonjour and Airplay for example) I have looked into relaying the old Beacon broadcast port 2190 (I saw that pop up in the logs once) as well as enabling various Multicast and IGMP options on my router. Obviously none of that was sufficient.
I have done some research and can't fine that anyone has ever been able to make this work for the TiVo, but wanted to ask it again and see if anyone has any ideas.
One other note, if I do put the wired TiVo on the wireless subnet (still wired), of course streaming works just fine so my hardware is fine. Obviously that would be an easy fix from my end, but I really don't want all the TiVo/Mini/Netflix HD traffic on that part of my network. It needs to stay where it belongs and only the streaming should take up any wireless subnet bandwidth. My guess is it is a software issue somewhere.
The picture* leading off this article
at least when I first saw it as a thumnail, triggered my S3 HD front panel detector, and made me wonder if TiVo could have gotten anywhere with a box done in white.

It's feast or famine with remotes, innit? Woe is usually not having discrete inputs on a remote. But not this time, my denon avr-x3000 does not have input toggle on it's remote. Which I'd need in order to teach my Tivo Roamio how to toggle inputs on the avr. All it has are discrete buttons for each input.
So, how do i get an input toggle into the tivo remote? Is there a known compatible code number to use in order to program the roamio remote without teaching it from another remote via IR?
I suppose I could jump through hoops and try and find one of my other universal remotes, the use that to teach the tivo remote. Trouble is they're all in boxes "somewhere" yet to be unpacked since moving. No doubt not with their paperwork, so that'd be a whole other digging adventure to find their codes too.
Somebody know if one of the pre-existing codes in the remote will handle this?
Romance means different things to different people. This Valentine’s Day, your best bet is to figure out what it means to your special someone and make a grand gesture. The grand gesture makes up for the silly fights, the less-than-inspired date nights, and telling her she’s acting like her mother—it’s also what makes a great romantic movie. The grand gesture is the scene you remember years later, like Jake presenting Samantha with a birthday cake in “Sixteen Candles” or Cindy jumping on the back of Ronald’s lawnmower in “Can’t Buy Continue Reading
Does the stream have to active on your account or can you choose which system to stream on?
ie.... Say I have a cable company TiVo service which doesn't allow access to activate boxes it to their existing installed whole house service.
Does Stream required to be registered or does it just work when you attach it to your home network? I read the online stuff at Tivo.com and while it mentions writing down the tsn number, it doesn't mention registering it online with your account.
Setup is a Roamio pro and a mini.
Last night the roamio was recording 5 things at the same time. I went to the mini and was unable to watch live tv. - No tuners available.
Question: Does the roamio always reserve 1 tuner? So, only 5 tuners are available to the mini? Or was this a problem on my end?
I've been informed that a TV lineup change is coming to Austin during the first part of March.
If most/all of the line up is changed, can I assume that I'll just need to re-run the channel setup again?
Also, what will happen to my season passes or any other scheduled recordings? Will I need to remove and re-add them so they now have the correct channel?
Last night I tried to watch a Netflix movie and every 15 or so seconds the screen went black for about 1-2 seconds (no sound) and then resumed. (Other than that, the picture and audio was very good) After about 5 minutes of this I rebooted the Roamio, no change so I then watched the movie on the same network connection from my PS3 with no problem whatsoever.
I didn't see this issue listed here so I'm wondering if anyone else may have experience this problem yesterday or recently. I do see commentary on the Netflix layout but this definitely seemed like it had the potential to be a Netflix vs Roamio issue.
I meant to see if my Bravia Smart TV exhibited the same issue since Netflix is baked into it, but forgot to check it on there.
Running into a problem with the new Netflix app....
While trying to watch Adam-12 and the original Star Trek series, it seems that the original 4:3 aspect ratio has been stretched to 16:9.
Everything looks normal when the Netflix app starts. Nothing is "stretched" on main screen where you can scroll thru the show in your queue.
Is this a Netflix issue or can I change the aspect ratio via the remote when viewing Netflix?
Last night’s Top Moments were all about the pipe—the Men’s Snowboard Halfpipe competition, that is. The highly-anticipated event ended in disappointment for Team USA’s Shaun White: After foregoing his spot in the Snowboard Men’s Slopestyle in order to focus on the quest of a Gold hat trick in the Snowboard Men’s Halfpipe, White suffered a disappointing loss to Russian-born Iouri Podladtchikov, a/k/a/ “I-Pod.” White had scored a 95.75 with a fabulous second qualifying run, but in the finals he struggled on a slushy halfpipe, ultimately yielding Gold to I-Pod and Continue Reading

While TiVo’s US retail operation hasn’t fared so well in recent years, Virgin Media has seen great success from the TiVo platform in the UK… having just crossed the 2 million customer mark after about three years of availability. Virgin’s experience is largely TiVo as we know it, yet the 3-tuner hardware is foreign to […]

Sorry if this has been already answered elsewhere! Is there a specific key/button combination to restore whatever is in the PIP screen? If I'm viewing a recorded show and press the Tivo button, I get the PIP, and can view my recording list, do searches, etc., but I can't get back to the recorded show (that is, dismiss the PIP) with only one key/button press as far as I've been able to discover. If I'm watching a live show and bring up the PIP, just pressing the "live tv" button dismisses the PIP, and I'm back to a full screen live program. I hope I've explained my question satisfactorily.
I usually use the jmfs ISO inside a VM under either VMware Fusion on a Mac or VMware Workstation on a PC to image larger hard drives to put into my TiVo Premiere. I usually have the two hard drives hooked up via SATA/USB adapters and sitting on my desk.
My original TiVo 320GB disk is over 4 years old, and although it works fine for now I know it will eventually fail due to a mechanical issue. Is there any way to create an image of the disk in vmdk format that I can keep somewhere else? That way I can mount that instead of searching for my original HD.

Ok, I need to use pytivo to transfer closed captions back to my TiVo-- this seems ridiculous but is apparently true. Pytivo is incredibly complicated to install and use. I may have installed it, but I have no idea how to configure or use it. What's a share? Can anyone point me to a relatively user friendly guide? thanks, and why can't TiVo to go just transfer the captions back? it's really easy to use
I set up my TiVo for streaming in the app on Sunday with my new Roamio and tested it out while away later that day and it worked. Now tonight while away from home I'm getting this error message. I'm able to connect to my home network in other ways so I know the network isn't down. Is anyone else experiencing it or has experienced similar and knows why?
What would you say is the best UPS system for the Roamio PRO? I looked at weaknees and they recommend this unit: http://www.weaknees.com/protect.php
Is that a good unit? I don't want anything too expensive, but I want to stop TiVo from losing power and having to reboot (down here we lose power very, very often... too much ocean and sunshine I guess  )
While watching live tv, I used to use this button (photo 1) to skip back to the beginning of what ever was in the buffer (photo 2).
Now, I can't get that to happen :( I went into settings and tried setting up the advance/replay options both ways.. but it still doesn't work.
What am I doing wrong? How do I get back to the beginning of the buffer while watching live tv?
Really would like Android support for Stream....
