Roamio Basic HDMI Power?

TiVoCommunity Forum Recent Threads - Sat, 12/14/2013 - 13:15
I wanted to add one of our old Blu-Ray players to the kids' playroom where we have an old TV with just 1 HDMI input.

When I went to add the Roamio to our 3x HDMI switcher, I noticed that the switch LED's didn't light up meaning there was no power being transferred to the switcher. Because of this the Roamio will not send a picture over the switcher. I thought pretty much everything these days carried 5V power over the HDMI. It's odd to me that the Roamio would not do this.

The only time the switcher would power up was if I turned on the Blu-Ray player, which, then would send the 5V signal over the HDMI.

Is this true? The new Roamios do not send any power signal over their HDMI connection?

TiVo Channel Lineup Inaccurate - TWC NYC

TiVoCommunity Forum Recent Threads - Sat, 12/14/2013 - 12:51
I'm not sure where else this would go, but here seems to be the right place?

My TiVo Premiere XL received some channel updates recently that messed up some channels. In particular in TWC NYC - Channels 647-650 are now updated to MusicChoice channels when in reality it's still the old MGM HD, Smithsonian HD, and other other channel - I think MAV HD. But now the guide reads Music Choice genres for those channels. MusicChoice occupies 601-646 and I notice that some of those are mislabeled too.

Is there a proper channel for this, or can someone in the area also verify this is happening to them too?

Thanks.

Lifetime Service - Can it be Transferred from Series 2 to Roamio

TiVoCommunity Forum Recent Threads - Sat, 12/14/2013 - 12:00
If I were to buy a Series 2 TiVo from someone who has a Lifetime subscription, can I transfer it to a new Roamio? I currently have a Series 4 Premiere and my service is monthly. When I get the Roamio I will stop using the Premiere.

I have been looking at TiVo's How to Transfer TiVo Service to a New TiVo DVR chart where it says (in bold):

Product Lifetime Service is valid only for the life of the TiVo DVR for which it was originally purchased and can be transferred to another DVR only in one of the following situations:
  • You activated the TiVo DVR with Product Lifetime Service less than 30 days ago.
  • The TiVo DVR was exchanged under warranty, either through the retailer or the manufacturer. (Proof of this exchange will be required).
  • The TiVo DVR was activated under an incorrect service number.

IIRC, the ability to transfer Lifetime service is essentially for new devices only ("less than 30 days ago"). Is this the case?

Thanks!

Roamio/Mini/Premiere Pickle: Creative Insight Requested

TiVoCommunity Forum Recent Threads - Sat, 12/14/2013 - 11:11
Hi Gents, hoping someone clever can help me figure out a creative solution. At my weekend place that's 75 miles from Chicago up in Michigan, I watch a blend of OTA and cable TV so that I can see Chicago local affiliates instead of the Indiana ones that cable (and DirecTV for that matter) provide up here. I currently have a Tivo Premiere XL that has 2 coax ins, one for cable and one for OTA. I was planning on upgrading that house to Roamio, along with adding a Tivo Mini in another room. Lo and behold, Tivo Roamio (base version) is Cable OR OTA, NOT both. Any ideas? I saw someone suggest cross-streaming between the Premiere (which has OTA) and a Roamio in the other room. Or, change to a Premiere XL 4 with a Mini in the other room, but I do think the Roamio platform is so much more robust and would like to implement it if possible. How good is the cross-device streaming between a Roamio and Premiere? Wondering your thoughts. Thank you.

TiVo Thumb Buttons To Rate The Voice Finalists

Zatz Not Funny! - Sat, 12/14/2013 - 09:30

Perhaps another benefit of the TiVo 20.3.8 software update is a framework to tabulate in-show tenor by repurposing those iconic TiVo thumbs up/down remote buttons (versus their original purpose to rate programming as a means of generating suggestions). Classified as an “experiment” by “TiVo Labs”, select customers have been recruited to test this new functionality: If [...]

Roamio Not Transferring From Desktop Plus

TiVoCommunity Forum Recent Threads - Sat, 12/14/2013 - 08:48
I have videos that are in .mp4 containers coded to the h.264 standard using the same program.

How do I get them to auto-transfer with Desktop plus software? Is there a way to force the transfer?

Desktop Plus is the current version and will sometimes transfer files to my Roamio.

Both the Roamio and PC are running on the same leg of the wired LAN off of the same switch.

I'm frustrated that it will transfer some and ignore others even though the same program/settings were used to create the files.

DirecTV: RVU TVs no longer require a Genie set-top box

So when is Tivo going Rvu compliant ? I guess the Mini is just old tech now.

DirecTV: RVU TVs no longer require a Genie set-top box

http://hd-report.com/2013/10/09/dire...e-set-top-box/

DirecTV is promoting new smart TV technology that allows RVU-enabled HDTVs to display live programming, as well as recorded and On Demand titles, without the use of a set-top box. Several Smart TV models from Samsung and Sony feature the RVU option that can be connected to the main DirecTV Genie Whole-Home HD DVR without having to use a Genie Mini device for each client TV set.

Many new Samsung model HDTVs include RVU support, including models from the 6000, 7000, 8000, and 9000 series from 2012 and 2013. Three Samsung models from 2011 that support RVU include the D6000, D6400, D6420. Sony’s Bravia R550A and R520A series also ship RVU-enabled. (See the full chart of supporting TVs below.)

You may want to update your HDTV’s to the latest firmware version if you plan on using the RVU option. And, you’ll have to call DirecTV to get an additional TV set up using RVU.

Tivo without cable card

We have high speed Internet, and there are also some basic, low level channels included with this, in the clear. I have the Baaic Roamio, since I use it with an antenna, but was wondering if I could connect the cable to it instead and get those basic channels without a cable card?

TiVo Anywhere Poor Performance

TiVoCommunity Forum Recent Threads - Fri, 12/13/2013 - 23:24
My TiVo (Premier XL4 + Stream) RARELY works away from home. I have been trying to use it now for about 3 weeks in places like Hilton Hotel, Starbucks and the Mall and it just does not perform. Most of the time I can't even get it to work. Other rare times it performs so slowly I give up. So far it has been pretty useless in this mode. I have an iPhone 5s and iPad Air both with iOS 7.0.4.

Proactive Alerts on No Signal Recording Failure

TiVoCommunity Forum Recent Threads - Fri, 12/13/2013 - 22:47
TiVo needs proactive alerts when a scheduled program is failing to record. It has been the case repeatedly that the TiVo has been busy trying to record a program and failing due to "No Signal" (usually a problem with the tuning adapter) while I'm watching another successfully and, by the time I notice, the last re-airs of the program have passed.

This was almost the case again tonight with Haven on SYFYHD. Several episodes of the season's recap marathon suddenly registered No Signal and didn't record. By the time I reached the episode that had only partially recorded, the prime-time season finale was almost done failing to record. This time I noticed before the repeat airing, but this same program missed two episodes earlier in the season.

Had the TiVo thrown up an alert that a scheduled recording was failing to record on a tuner, I could have done what I eventually did: reboot the FSCKING tuning adapter, the single most unreliable piece of hardware ever to invade my home since the Mystro beta software was pushed onto TWC's cable box making it useless with analog TiVos.

Just a simple alert when signal is lost for more than one full minute would alert the user to this problem that as yet can only be remedied by drastic user action before it is too late.

Premiere 4 vs Roamio: Are the UIs the Same?

TiVoCommunity Forum Recent Threads - Fri, 12/13/2013 - 18:19
I am contemplating upgrading my 2-tuner Series4 Premiere to either a Premiere 4 or the 4-tuner Roamio. I live alone and have only 1 TV; I really just want to be able to record 4 shows at once. My cable provider is Comcast and I do not have an OTA antenna. I already have the WD eSATA external drive and I typically use around 35% capacity. I have 20.3.7 and everything is working OK but the S4's responsiveness just seems like a slug. I am hoping that the Roamio has a much faster processor than the S4 Premiere but am not sure about the Premiere 4.

Are the UIs pretty much the same with the Roamio and Premiere 4? Is the Premiere 4 much different, if any, than my 3 year old Series4 Premiere?

TiVo Software Update 20.3.8 Rolling Out

Lifetime transfer

TiVoCommunity Forum Recent Threads - Fri, 12/13/2013 - 16:21
I recently bought a Roamio and two Minis and activated them with Lifetime. Is there a minimum amount of time these units need to stay on my account (say, 30 days) or can I transfer them to my parents immediately? It's not a big deal if we have to wait, but I'd like to button it up prior to the holidays.

Grey's Anatomy - 12/12/13 **SPOILERS**

TiVoCommunity Forum Recent Threads - Fri, 12/13/2013 - 13:14
Anyone still watching this???

I started from the beginning and while its more soapy then anything else I'm still staying with it.

I had a bad feeling that Avery was going to interrupt Kepner's marriage but I was actually hoping he wouldn't. Why? because I was getting sick and tired of them dancing around each other and really thought that although Kepner didn't love the paramedic as much as Avery that she loved him "enough" and could be very happy with him. So now the cliff hanger is how she will answer Avery's question as to whether or not she really loves him. Of course she has to answer in front of all her friends!!!

I got a kick when Shepherd answers the phone and is told to hold for the Pres! I think I heard that Dempsey wanted to get out of the series and this could be his exit story. He'll still be married to Meredith but will "have" to work on that out of state research as requested by the Pres.

I also think Sandra Oh wants to leave so the divisiveness between her and Meredith will probably the reason Yang will leave for more challenging pastures!

Where to buy a Roamio

TiVoCommunity Forum Recent Threads - Fri, 12/13/2013 - 13:09
I'm thinking about buying a Roamio to replace my TivoHD. Does it make a difference whether I buy it from TiVo directly, or just go to BestBuy to buy it? It looks like they're the same price (BB might be $0.01 less right now). BB offers a 4 year warranty for $99, TiVo offers a 3 year for $39. The biggest advantage of Best Buy that I can see is that I can drive over there and pick it up "today", whereas with TiVo, it will take "3 to 5 days".

Thanks,
Jeff

Ho Ho Ho! TiVo’s Survey Uncovers Holiday Favorites!

In the spirit of the holiday season we at TiVo asked TV Lovers to picture their perfect Christmas. Dinner with the cast of “Modern Family”, the stars of “The Big Bang Theory” wrapped neatly under the tree and a Santa Claus that looks suspiciously like George Clooney are the elements to a very merry Christmas.  Oh, and family too! Respondents kept in step with the notion that the holidays are first and foremost about loved ones as 42% of participants favored watching the season’s classics with their family compared to Continue Reading
