Ok, so I've ignored Dr Who for most of my life. I tried to watch it on PBS in the 1970s when it was first being imported and it was simply too cheesy for my tastes. Now, 40 years later, it seems like it would be impossible to find a decent jumping on point.
And yet.. at this years Hugos there were no less than THREE episodes nominated for a Hugo. Three. That's a very impressive statistic, and indicates that this is a much better show than the cardboard thing I saw way back when. And I love Steven Moffats writing on other things.
So.... is there a jumping on point for someone who really didn't like the early stuff? Is there a legitimate way to watch these episodes from this jumping on point (Netflix, Hulu, whatever)?
What can you tell a Dr Who novice?
Hey All... I know I read this on here somewhere. But I thought I saw that the stream built inside the pro would not be activated until this fall update they say will be released.
Is this true? Or does the stream inside the pro work out of the box?
Or perhaps, they were referring to the streaming outside the home?
So, my "My Shows" is correct on the website except for some reason one recording from 11/15/12 last year "The League" TV show has an episode that is showing on the website - but that is not in My Shows. Anyone have this happen, ever? Seems like it got "stuck" on the site somehow and won't remove.
Roamio's initial suggestions over our first week have been a bit odd to say the least. A lot of what I'd call the lowest common denominator stuff like reality wedding shows and Kardashian nonsense is what it thinks we're into. But I think that makes sense to a point because it hasn't had time to learn so why not suggest stuff that is likely the most popular overall?
1) The Algorithm - How exactly does it come up with the suggestions? Does it exclusively pay attention to the thumbs system, or does it also pay attention to what you watch and/or set to record?
2) Performance - For those who have been diligent in reacting to its suggestions in the past with the thumb system over an extended period of time, do you find the suggestions to a reasonable job grabbing things you are likely to enjoy?
3) Priority - Am I correct in assuming the suggestive recordings will always have the lowest priority on the Roamio? Meaning that one will NEVER attempt use a tuner that is either being used with live tv or for a user generated recording?
4) DVR space -- Am I also correct in assuming that Roamio will ALWAYS clear space for your recordings by deleting suggestions? If so, how does it determine the order of deletion? By age, the thumbs system, or a game of TiVo suggestions roulette?
Thanks a ton.
I would love to be able to manually sort programs contained in a Groups folder. It would work just like the sort function in the Season Pass Manager.
It would be great to be able to move episode 1 to the top instead of having to play programs from the bottom of the list to the top.
Sorting manually would also allow programs that are recorded out of order to be arranged correctly.
The option to sort alphabetically, by date, or manually, should be options within the group. I want the ability to see my shows the way that works best for individual groups, not simply sort all groups one way or the other.
Hey all, i've seen some posts about transferring service on the same account to a new roamio, but my question is different.
I have replaced the 2 TiVoHD setup in my house with a new Roamio and Mini. For one of the boxes, i paid the standard $12.99. But for the second, i was grandfathered into the cheaper MSD rate of $6.95 a month.
I called to cancel service on my TiVoHDs (yes, yes, i know i should have gotten lifetime. I've learned my lesson), and the CSR said that I can actually transfer that $6.95 rate to the account ot whoever i give or sell my TiVoHD box to. Even if it ends up being the only TiVo that person owns.
Is that accurate? Has anyone else run into this?
It seems weird that I could sell a box i am getting MSD on to someone where it would be their only TiVo, and they would get the MSD discount.
If it is accurate, that could be a small bonus to someone buying on ebay (not lifetime, but better that $14.99 a month). TiVo gave me 2 free months of service on that box as I attempt to sell it.
Thanks in advance!
I have several recordings dating back to 2005 that I always transfer when I buy a new Tivo, and I routinely set these to KUID.
On my Roamio Plus, I am unable to set about half of these copied recordings to KUID. No matter how many times I select KUID, their icons remain blue and refuse to change to green.
Has anyone else noticed a failure of the Roamio Plus/Pro to set KUID?
I recently bought 2 Minis. One of them worked fine right off the bat, but the other one kept rebooting, or would boot to a blank screen. At first I thought there was something wrong with the unit, but when I hooked the other Mini up to the same TV, it exhibited the same behavior. This led me to the conclusion that there was some type of incompatibility between the Mini and my older Pioneer Elite plasma. I assumed it was an HDCP issue, so I stuck a Monoprice HDMI switch that I had lying around in between the Mini and the TV. Voila! Problem solved!
The weird thing is that I had an old S3 hooked up to the same TV via HDMI for years and never had a problem. I don't get it, but at least I found a solution that appears to work. Just thought I'd pass along the info in case others are experiencing the same problem. :)
My Roamio Plus is my first Tivo so I need a little help with a menu issue I am having.
I am getting both the C113 and C501 networking errors when accessing menus on regular basis. If I give it a minute it always comes back and everything is fine for a while. I thought it might be my network so I have spent the last two weeks trying to improve it but I have come to the realization that my network is fine.
I am running the Tivo on Wi-Fi but have an ASUS RT-N66U Dual-Band Wireless-N900 and the Tivo is on the 5GHz side with 80% signal strength. I have tested the connection with several other devices and everything is supper fast. Also, when using Netflix the system is very fast and stable - no issues. So I know the network is fine.
Spoke with support and they wanted to blame the network but I am beginning to believe there might be a bigger issue.
What I need to know is if this is a common problem or if everyone else has really fast menus with no network issues?
I believe that some of the writers of this show also worked on Lost. Whenever I hear someone say "the dome wants this" or "the dome protects us" I can't help but think that if I substitute "dome" with "island" I get a show that wants to be another Lost. Sooner or later I expected to see a black smoke monster. Well, it came to pass. Except that it's a white smoke monster.
Next, someone will be pressing a button every hour.
I was going to buy a Roamio Pro and 3 mini's to replace my FIOS DVR and 3 boxes, however in reading the various forums, it appears there are many issues. I see from other posts that FIOS has MOCA built into its router and that it also have a filter built in. I also see where a FIOS tech suggested a certain model cable card. Would some of you with FIOS please comment on this? Would it be easy to set up the Pro with 3 mini's with FIOS? And do I need to specify a certain model FIOS cablecard to make it easy? Or should I wait until the bugs are worked out?
One other question, will the Mini work if wall mounted behind the TV, out of sight? I have a pivot mount that would allow that.
I recently bought a Roamio and two Minis. This is my first TiVo since 2005, so I was excited to get back to TiVo with the new DVR.
However, the experience so far has been less than enjoyable. When everything works, it's great, the problem is that my Minis regularly lose their connection (V87 error) to the Roamio and the stream cuts out. Sometimes it happens every 5 minutes, sometimes it takes an hour. But it always happens.
I'm fairly tech savvy, and I've tried a million and one troubleshooting techniques. I've spent hours on the phone with TiVo support. I've tried plugging my Roamio and the Minis directly into two different routers using different cables. No matter what I do, when I ping my Roamio, I regularly get ping times above 1ms (often as high as 10ms) and regular packet losses on my LAN.
Anyone have any thoughts? Could my Roamio just have a bad NIC? I'm at my wits end here.
I've set up a Roamio and am trying to transfer a number of shows from my Tivo Series 3. The Roamio is using MoCA and the Series 3 is connected to my home network via Ethernet. I was able to transfer a number of episodes of a television series from the Series 3 to the Roamio. But a few of the episodes cannot be transferred.
When the transfer fails, I see the following message on the Roamio: "There was an error. Your request could not be processed. Please try again (Messages # 86). Sorry, you can't watch this program now, either because the Tivo-HD DVR is no longer available on the network or because the requested program could no longer be found..."
This isn't a copyright issue. I am able to transfer other programs of the same series. I've rebooted both Tivos as well as the router.
At one point I was able to schedule these shows to be transferred, but I had to cancel the transfer to deal with another Roamio issue. But several other shows were also on the transfer queue and had to be canceled, and these shows were later successfully transferred.
Another wish, It would be awfully nice to be able to set TiVo to either mute or cut the sound to half level when one goes to TiVo Central after watching a show. I know you can debate where you'd like the audio to be when you enter TiVo Central, but it would be cool for each owner to have their choice, similar to the sound effects levels. Is this possible now?
I'm in Maidenhead, was working, but a few years ago.
I just bought a Roamio and I really want to love it, but so far, I'm frustrated. One of the first things I want to do is just to watch network shows that have already aired on my Tivo. For example, I just missed 3 episodes of Big Brother. I can go to the CBS website on my laptop and watch those 3 episodes, for free. How do I do this on my tivo?
I see that I can pay for it through Amazon Prime, but why would I want to do that when I can get it free from their website?
Can anyone tell me how to watch this through my tivo?
Just got my Mini today and was using it to watch YouTube. It rebooted twice, once while browsing videos in my subscriptions and again when I pressed the TiVo button to exit YouTube. Is there an issue with YouTube or should I be concerned I got a bad device?
I'm sure I'm missing something obvious here but this first weekend of college football brought the idea to mind...
Is there any way that the multiple tuners present in the Roamio models could be utilized to permit viewing multiple channels simultaneously on the same screen? Obviously it would have to be supported by the software, but would the hardware permit this?
I've got the Roamio base model, looking for the Stream function. Get in touch if you have upgraded and are looking to unload one.
Been a longtime Tivo user. Been paying $6.95 (MSD) for my 2nd Tivo box. Had upgraded my S2 to a Premiere unit some time ago with this MSD. Wondering if I can do the same by transferring to a Romeo base unit.
