Poor quality on Live TV, same program perfect if recorded.

TiVoCommunity Forum Recent Threads - Thu, 10/23/2014 - 17:11
It seems that my OTA watching a program delivers really poor quality, the AMP says lost digital input, the screen is scattered and viewing is quite impassible. I rescan the channels and it get a bit better for some time.

What is troublesome is that if I also have recorder the above mentioned TV program, it will play back perfectly, no loss in picture nor audio.

No I am not recording one channel and live view another.

My setup is antenna straight into Roamio and then to TV and AMP.

It does get old to start every tv evening by rescanning the channels.

I do get by with record my anticipated viewings. But I really would like to have perfect sound an pic whenever I watch.

Shutting off Tivo service feels so good

TiVoCommunity Forum Recent Threads - Thu, 10/23/2014 - 16:57
I know this won't be a popular post, but I have to share that I am so relieved to finally make that call to Tivo and have them shut off my Tivo service after so much misery.

My Roamio experience is summed up in my avatar and plagued with countless missed recordings, Roamio hardware swaps, cable card swaps, tuning adapter swaps, attenuators, tech support calls, and truck rolls.

What am I doing next? Doesn't matter. What I won't be doing is calling Tivo, calling Time Warner, calling Tivo again, replacing hardware, watching techs trying to pair cable cards over the speakerphone ("now was that a 7 or a 4 after the 3?"), describing my hookup-- put the TA in line, no use a splitter above the TA, trying to explain to Time Warner that I need a certain TA firmware release, be told my signal is too good for Tivo, be told my signal is too poor for Tivo, have Roamio then show +18db with no coax connected, or carry $400 on my credit card so Tivo will ship me a new Roamio.

Correction-- what I will be doing now is planning a fitting end to my Roamio Pro. I'm thinking: bonfire, Darth Vader style.

Real Husbands Of Hollywood

It's begun it's third season but I'd never heard of this BET show until a couple of days ago. It stars Kevin Hart and is a half hour spoof of all the "Real XYZ of ABC" shows. I've watched a couple of episodes and it made me laugh so I set a season pass. If Kevin Hart isn't your thing, then this show is probably not for you. It's billed as "The Fakest Reality Show Ever." Nick Cannon, Nelly and Boris Kodjoe co-star.

Cable Card Firmware for TW and Cable Vison

TiVoCommunity Forum Recent Threads - Thu, 10/23/2014 - 15:05
I have had a TiVo HD in my main house for almost 8 years along with cable vision cable boxes in the rest of the house. I am done with paying for additional outlets and boxes. I am going to be getting TiVo Roamios and Minis for my homes. I was wondering what the latest firmware is for the following cable systems and how to get those providers to get my firmware updated. I want to make my install go as smoothly as possible and I heard that the cable card firmware is a big key.

I have time warner in NYC 1 + 3 Minis

Cablevision on Long Island 1 Pro + 4 Mins

Comcast in Florida 1 + and 2 Minis

Thanks so much for your help

Does Tivo Mini Require a Constant Internet Connection?

TiVoCommunity Forum Recent Threads - Thu, 10/23/2014 - 13:58
In my household, we use a limited amount of internet, so have chosen not to subscribe to any wired broadband services. Our internet needs are met through the cellular data of our smartphones, and occasionally, we will use mobile hotspot on our iPhones when we need a data connection beyond the iPhone.

We have had a Tivo Roamio basic model set up for OTA for a few months, and force a manual connection over wifi through the iPhone hotspot every 3-4 days to update the guide data. This works very well for our needs, and other than a persistent C130 error on the main Tivo screen, the Roamio has been flawless in meeting our DVR needs.

We also have an older CRT TV in the basement that we would like to connect a Tivo Mini to. I've come up empty in researching how to configure a Mini in this setup, and need help w/ the following questions:

1. Can the Mini operate as a DVR extender without a constant internet connection? (I understand that there would be reduced functionality, but my only desires are to extend live TV and recordings from the Roamio.)

2. Can the Mini connect directly to the Roamio through an ethernet crossover cable? Would the Roamio still be able to retrieve guide data through wifi?

3. If not, my idea is to use an Airport Extreme router that I already have and connect it to our iMac. The Roamio, Mini, and iMac would all be hardwired with ethernet cables to the router. When we need to feed a data connection to the network, I would connect my iPhone to the iMac and share it's internet connection to the router. Would this setup work? Any other suggestions?

TiVo Mini same cabling as CATV?

TiVoCommunity Forum Recent Threads - Thu, 10/23/2014 - 12:15
I have Comcast service and was trying their X1 master/slave boxes but its pretty brutal. Since I already have a Roamio and a couple of slightly older boxes, I figured TiVo minis would be a good solution.

Unfortunately I do not have Ethernet at all of the TVs. My question is whether its as simple as connecting the mini to the household cable on the MoAC jack and it will magically communicate with the Roamio because it too is connected to the cable. By cable I mean the household coax system that currently delivers CATV.

According to the Wikipedia article they're -supposed- to operate on different frequencies than CATV service, but does the scenario I describe above actually work? And work at the same time as CATV service in the same house on the same cabling?

That would also mean the Roamio would have to support MoaC on it's "CATV In" and I just never knew about it.

Thanks!
Dave

TIVO Warranty

TiVoCommunity Forum Recent Threads - Thu, 10/23/2014 - 10:47
I have a TIVO Roamio, and I am the the end of 90 (5 more days left) day period. I also have a problem with my DVR and TIVO is shipping out another unit.

Can I still buy extended warranty after i recv the new unit as by that time 90 days of the initial unit will already be over. TIVO says I have to buy the warranty within 90 days and they are not mentioning clearly by which 90 days.

Thanks,
Steve

Spotify App Streaming Quality

TiVoCommunity Forum Recent Threads - Thu, 10/23/2014 - 09:29
I was about to become a premium member of Spotify mostly to use on the Roamio. Can anyone give me an idea of the quality of the audio? I have tested Pandora many times and it is ok, but I wanted to get your opinions of what Spotify was like before I purchased. I couldn't find any other threads in the past couple of years. Thanks!

Roamio Plus and Time Warner Help

TiVoCommunity Forum Recent Threads - Thu, 10/23/2014 - 09:07
Ok looking to try and get some answers. Tech on both sides have me completely frustrated. Dealing with Time Warner out of Northwest Ohio and brand new Tivo Roamio Plus. This is what I have done so far.

*All Equipment CC and TA are Motorola

- 1st CC TWC said it was paired and receiving stuck on acquiring channels 75 or 89%.

-2nd CC same as above had a 3-way call between Tivo and TWC nothing was resolved. Ordered Tech to come out next day.

-3rd CC and new TA finally received basic channels, but no SDV channels gives error of V58. Tech from natoinal CC told service tech to swap CC again with another one.

-4th CC same as above. Tech left and TWC CC rep told me it would take up to 6 hours to format. Gave it 24 hrs. and nothing is resolved same V58 code.

This brings me to this forum. I looked up to see if other people had the same problem and the only thing I came up with is ask them for RDU TWC notes. Well what the heck does this mean and how do I get TWC to contact them? Also has anybody else had this problem resolved and had any success?

I'm into this about 8 days and 20hrs and about 120 miles.(picking up equipment from office) I will give it about 1 more week before this gets packed up and set back before my 30 days are up. Sorry for the long rant any help will be greatly appreciated.

I was disappointed that they shuffled the tribes so soon. Seems like the dynamic they had going wasn't played out yet. On the other hand, the new dynamic is potentially much more painful. Having several pairs on the same tribe should mean the singles are safe as safe can be while pairs are split. I was surprised that they took Kelley out last night, though. Thought it was going to go the other way.

I wonder what Jeff's going to do about the food. What price could he extract from that tribe? What have they got? Of course he could take their fishing and comfort stuff, leave them with a bare campsite, but will that be enough? I gotta admit, I'm anxious to find out. :)

Will TWC get rid of TAs?

TiVoCommunity Forum Recent Threads - Thu, 10/23/2014 - 04:39
Since Comcast has bought them, and Comcast doesn't use TAs (yet), I figure it's possible they'll convert TWC markets to the Comcast way of doing things.

Why would an HD channel give me SD content?

TiVoCommunity Forum Recent Threads - Thu, 10/23/2014 - 04:31
I recorded the US women's world cup qualifying game a couple of days ago on FS1HD, and it was obviously SD. Lots of digital artifacts and terrible haloes around everything (like the athletes). It was also reminiscent of digital zoom. What's up with that?

Out of Home Streaming/Download and Apple Airport Extreme

TiVoCommunity Forum Recent Threads - Thu, 10/23/2014 - 00:35
I recently upgraded to a Roamio Plus. One of the features I was excited about was out-of-home (OOH) streaming and, especially, download, to my iPad and iPhone. When I run through the setup process with these devices, in the home, everything succeeds. Streaming and download in-home works fine. However, whenever I try to download or stream from out-of-home, I always get this message from the TiVo app: "Problem with streaming device. There was a problem connecting to your streaming device." Options: Fix now, Not now.

My iPhone 5S and iPad 3 are each running iOS 8.1, and the latest TiVo app. My home network is run with an Apple Airport Extreme (802.11ac) router, running the latest firmware version (7.7.3). The TiVo is plugged directly in to the router. I'm on Comcast, via a cable modem that I've had them set to "bridge mode" (so, the Comcast router's Wi-Fi, NAT translation, and DHCP servers are disabled).

I found a TiVo OOH support website (http://support.tivo.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/2762) that says:

"For Out-of-home streaming to work, you must have Universal Plug and Play (UPnP) enabled on your home router. Refer to your router manufacturer's instructions for assistance with enabling UPnP."

However, it appears the Apple Extreme does NOT support UPnP (even though TiVo OOH streaming setup did not report any error).

The Apple Extreme does support NAT-PMP (NAT Port Mapping Protocol), which apparently is similar to UPnP. It also supports port mapping. Could I do some kind of configuration with those to "make it work"?

I asked TiVo customer support about this and they answered in a very perfunctory way:

"Without UPnP support we are unable to guarantee out of home streaming functionality at all. You can try working with Apple to identify what options you would have available through NAT-PMP to have it operate as closely to Universal Plug and Play as possible. Once that is configured you can attempt streaming again, however if problems continue to occur we will want to utilize a router that supports the Universal Plug and Play functionality."

Does the community and do the networking experts here agree with this? Or is there something I can do with my Airport Extreme to get OOH to work?

Roamio MOCA network no Live or Recorded TV

TiVoCommunity Forum Recent Threads - Wed, 10/22/2014 - 23:47
My new Roamio Plus and new Minis were connected via Ethernet and were working fine but I don't have enough Ethernet ports for all my stuff so I want to use MOCA.

I have two Comcast feeds coming into my home, one goes to my modem then Ethernet to router and then to the Roamio. The other I connected the POE filter then a 3GHz splitter with one feed to each of the Minis and one to the Roamio. I set the Roamio up to then create a MOCA network and join the Minis to it.

The minis can see the Roamio and the recorded shows and connect to the Tivo service just fine. All the devices show they are connected to a MOCA network and display the uptime. However, I get no live TV or recorded TV.

I repeated the guided setup for the Minis and rebooted and reconnected to the Tivo service, still no live or recorded shows will play. I went to the Roamio and checked to confirm the MOCA network and it was still setup that way and gave the MOCA network uptime.

I then disconnected all but one Mini in case there was some interference on the coax and redid the steps above but still no success. Any suggestions please? Thanks!

Roamio freezing up glitches

TiVoCommunity Forum Recent Threads - Wed, 10/22/2014 - 22:43
Roamio and my premiere both have a weird freeze/pause that is happening.

The video and audio stop during playback. When it resumes after several to about ten seconds, the video just continues and everything seems fine...until it does it again.

It's driving me nuts! It's happening every few minutes.

Anyone else having it? I found a thread that was months old and chimed in on it as well.

Also, at times when I select a function from the remote, there might be a long delay u til the function happens...like its frozen for a few seconds.
