I am looking to purchase a new NAS device for streaming HD content via streambaby to Tivo?
How do I evaluate various NAS devices (other than capacity) to determine the best model for me?
I have a Tivo Premiere on wired network with DIR-655 router.
If you can provide any suggestions/advice, please let me know.

The most noteworthy scene was the ending with the party. It reminded me of Ally McBeal, another David E Kelley show, especially with Lisa Nicole Carson who played "Renee" on Ally. David E Kelley seems to love recycling actors.
I could even imagine Vonda Shepard singing "Take Me Home"
A shame the show has been canceled just as it started to find its identity.
I had to go to another Firewall since nod32 stopping checking my emails for Spam / Viruses. I chose VIPRE.
I noticed that my AutoTransfers stopped working and I could not long see the server in the Now Playing.
I was able to finally access the TiVos (Series2 and Series3) and download the programs. But that was about it.
When I open TiVo Desktop (I believe I have 2.8 version) - when I put my mouse over the TiVo Desktop, I get a rotating circle. This was happening the other day as well - but I just left the mouse over the TiVo Desktop and it finally allowed me to pick recordings. I was able to download everything.
However, when I go to the Services tab in the TiVo Desktop (and after I can finally choose this menu), I receive an error:
The specified service does not exist as an installed service.
In my services, I have TiVo Beacon listed, but nothing else. VIPRE software is running in Learning mode.
It will allow me to add ports but it also wants the name of the application (which I do not know) for these ports.
I did add C:\Program Files\TiVo\Desktop as an always allowed path.
I don't know if other services should be running - can you advise?
I have not figured out exactly how to creat a new service just yet.. I have been reading a lot of articles but they seem to just apply to servers, etc. I am using Windows 7 Ultimate (I can ask this question on another board and post that here when I get an answer).
I am looking to replace hard drive in my TCD663160.
What is the recommendation for Western Digital Drive currently?
Can I install 2GB drive or should I stick with 1GB drive?
What is a good link to walk through the upgrade process?
I watch very few series in "real time", as they're broadcast week-to-week. Instead I prefer to wait until the season ends, then watch the whole season over the course of a few weeks. I enjoy the freedom of being able to watch at my leisure. I don't have to wait until next week if a particular episode intrigues me as to how such-and-such is going to play out in the next ep. There's also better continuity to the story overall when the whole season is compressed into a few weeks rather than months and months (often with breaks lasting for weeks).
Recently I've watched the latest seasons of Justified and Southland and I'm looking forward in the next few months to watching 30 Rock, The Killing, Game of Thrones, and Grey's Anatomy.
Anyone else prefer watching their fav series this way?
My home network is Powerline based:
Xfinity Cable Internet (up to 40 Mbps)
Netgear 200 Mbps Powerline AV with four adapters
Two 4-port switches (office & family room)
4-port Asus Wireless N router
~20 internet devices including Tivos, Slingplayer, Vulkano, several multimedia devices, game console, Skype phones, cameras, desktop, laptops, printers, tablets and smartphones
Although my Powerline works well (~ 25Mb/s down & 6.5Mb/s up), I thinking about turning my desktop into a real server and optimize the throughput by upgrading to a 500 Mbps Powerline system, wait for a 1Gbps one, or scrap it for another similarly low-cost option. I don't foresee running Ethernet.
Please vote and describe your configuration in a post (e.g. DSL, Cable, Wireless Broadband). I'd like to learn from what others have done.
(If there is an existing poll on this topic, please let me know -- a search didn't yield anything close in the last 5 years.)
Pioneer TiVo Series 2
When watch a recorded show the picture will freeze for a few seconds while the audio continues and then the picture starts moving again. Sometimes there is a cliche in the audio.
Also get occasionial pixilations.
I had the hard drive replaced recently so I don't think it is that.
Any idea what might be causing it?
Just saw the tivo premiere xl4 elite on sale for memorial day weekend at amazon for $349.00at amazon com the seller is electronics expo!:D
Seems like cost of blu ray media & increased speed of blu ray recorders vs cost per gb of a set of 2tb+ hard drives is making blu ray more attractive. At least, to me, so far. Rough calculations: say $120 x 2 = $240 for 1TB backed up = 100 hd movies. 100 hd movies on blu ray = $100 or possibly $50 if want to put 2 movies on 1 disc (which I probably wouldn't do). Still $240 vs $100.
Personally I'm wary of running a large array of hard drives on some sort of server. Expensive, not green and subject to failures. I understand raid, etc, but it's about the cost and maintenance of all that vs $1 for a blank blu ray to carry 1 or maybe 2 tivo hd movies.
Of course there is the hassle of burning blu rays. I suppose if cost were no object and I didn't feel guilty about all that electricity I'd go with some enormous and costly raid solution.
My 2 new to me tivo's are both stuck in guided setup when downloading data.
So I see this show is now moving from TLC to Discovery. The first season was great. The second season was awful. I am curious what happens to this show in the 3rd season.
Not sure if it's the spring update but Tivo was downloading for 1 ½ hrs then it said download was interrupted, so I manually connected to Tivo service and again about 1 hr and it said download was interrupted. Question how big is this download? And why does it keep saying download was interrupted? I know it's not my connection my Tivo is hardwired and my speed results are as follows
Download Speed: 21.74 Mbps (2.72 MB/sec transfer rate)
Upload Speed: 3.22 Mbps (0.4 MB/sec transfer rate)
Latency: 27 ms

We have about 8 episodes left of this show and trying to decide whether it's worth watching now that it's been cancelled. Can anyone who saw the finale tell me whether - without giving away any specifics - there was any sort of closure? I'm not even sure that I wouldn't watch it if they didn't make things crystal clear, but if it didn't even seem like they knew that it would be the series finale, then we probably won't bother.
A few months ago I bought a premier box that I couldnt get to stay up. It would randomly crash as I navigated the UI, recorded shows, etc. Almost every single day I had it, I would wake up and find it stuck in a reboot loop. Obviously not normal behavior but a little research on these forums and google seemed to be pretty common. I ended up returning it after about 10 days.
I have a S3 HD XL that I love but still have an itch to get the 4 tuners and 2tb. Whats the consensus on the spring update? Has it fixed most problems? At the time my box was crashing, TiVo was promising software fixes to address the problems I was having but I wasnt willing to gamble.
I figured we only need one thread for the auditions
The 29-year-old woman and her kids is why this is one of the best reality competition shows on TV. Things like that cannot be staged.
Some good dancers this year and I think they are really going all out because in the past they have found great dancers in SLC and Dallas before.
Loved the vintage Mac.
I missed seeing the other Girls
I have now seen Peter Scolari's penis!
Hannah can't help returning to Adam who doesn't even know what state she is from.
I don't know if I was supposed to think this, but when Hannah's dad turned the mom around in the shower, I was reminded that the ex-boyfriend said the dad is gay.
This was the first episode co-written by Judd Apatow.
There is a rumor that Community's Donald Glover will have a part on Girls.

Anyone still have issues with the Cox Plus channels in your market after the Spring Update that was supposed to fix the ability to tune up to 1Ghz? I'm in the Pensacola/Gulf Coast market with a TiVo Premiere with an M Card and Tuning Adapter. The TA seems to have them still authorized but I still can't tune to them. I verified they're in the 800/900 range. Shows "Searching for Signal on this Channel when I change to the channel and the diagnostics shows:
Modulation: QAM 256
Program Lock: No
Search Complete: Yes
RC State: Available
Current Tuning Status: Tuned-Success
Tune State: In Progress
Seems to be all the Plus pack channels (secondary premiums in HD).
Any advice would be appreciated.
