I thought these things were too simple to die, but all my TiVo would tell me when I got home was Cablecard error 161-1, and the consensus of all the google searches seemed to be that the card was dead. Fortunately the comcast office was nearby and open till 7, so I popped over there and the guy at the counter actually recognized the 161-1 error code and agreed that the cable card was dead, even more amazing, they had a spare cable card to give me. Got the new one in now, but as soon as I did that it started updating the firmware which looks like it will take a long time. Hope I don't have any problems getting it activated once the firmware is updated.
Tivo Stream and Transfer Issues:
Equipment: Five Tivo Devices, Four Mobile Devices, 1 Gigabyte Router, all hardwired via Cat 5 Ethernet In House cabling.
I installed a new Netgear R6250 1 Gigabyte router and my Tivos started having problems.
One Tivo only in my Office (within 3 from Router)
Streams are very slow: Can not play, keeps giving error messages.
Transfers are very slow: Runs at .98mbs takes over 53 minutes to stream a 30 minute show, verses 80.7mbs, which took 4.37 minutes for the same HD Best Quality show on Bedroom to Living Room transfer.
Two Tivos, Living Room Roamio Pro & Bedroom XL4:
Multi-Room Streams and Transfers are fine.
iPad Streams and Transfer very slow or does not work.
Tivo Desktop, on Windows 7 and/or 8:
Tivo Roamio to Desktop very slow then stops transferring.
I tried everything (see list below) but nothing worked until as a last resort I reinstalled the old Router (Belkin FSD7234A) 10/100, 2.4Mh.
. everything works again.
I have checked all the router settings and cannot find any settings which seem to be causing the problems.
I have connected the Office XL4 Tivo with Cat 6 directly to the new 1G router, still does not work.
Questions: Why does the new 1GB router cause the slowness on one Tivo but not the others? What is stopping iPad streaming and the Tivo Desktops from working?
Anyone have any suggestions?
Steps Tried to Solve (with 1GB Router Installed):
1. ReStart/Reset Tivo
2. Power down Start Up.
3. Power cycle Router, Hubs, Switches, and all Tivos, at same time.
4. Installed all new Ethernet cables between Router and Office Tivo.
5. Checked other Transfer and Stream timing on other Tivos and computers.
6. Ran Speedtest.net. Results = 66.12Mbps download, 4.34Mbps upload.
7. Ran Tutosoft.com to test LAN Speed. Results = 428.9Mbps Write, 608.2Mbps Read.
8. Changed Network IP Address, changed Static to Dynamic
9. Checked Router firewall settings.
10. Checked Router for the proper ports being open.
11. Connected Office Tivo directly to Router with new Ethernet cable.
12. Verify Media Access Key.
13. Called Tivo Support, but they could not help me.
14. Reinstall Original Router.
I have an xl4 I sold via ebay, the buyer never paid so I am looking to give it another go. Figured I'd offer it up here first.
Unit is pristine, comes with original box, remote, and cables.
$450 includes shipping to US48.
According to TV guide, Amazon will stream 1st season free on Saturday.
I saw the 1st episode, ( don't have prime ownership...) so might catch a few more of them tomorrow.
Why cant I change the channel of a season pass on the android app?
Also why when I try to change a setting for a season pass it reverts to the lowest number channel the show is on?
I have a Western digital external hard drive with ESATA that I am not using for anything. Will any ESATA drive work with the roamio? Are there any drawbacks to adding external storage?
I am looking to purchase a tablet and am trying to decide on a brand. My understanding with the Roamio Plus is that it does not require extra hardware to stream, so long as the show is not copy protected (boo hiss FX and AMC). Is that correct? And does it matter if I buy an Android tablet instead of an iPad? I'd rather not spend so much on something I won't likely use that often.
I have a Roamio Plus and I've tried putting a tivo app on my Samsung laptop and it won't stream to that. When I try with my phone (Samsung S5) it says something about setting up my streaming device, I haven't done that yet but will give it a shot this weekend. It says "Not able to set up TiVo Stream" -- which of course, I don't have, since I have a Roamio Plus and I 'm told that feature should be integrated into it since it's a 6-tuner device?
I found all the instructions in the box a bit confusing, so hoping someone here can help me find some clarity.
Sometime last fall, my Premiere 4 box started showing up on my other Tivo's as a Premiere Q. I first noticed it when my Tivo Premiere (2 tuner) could no longer find the Premiere 4 in the My Shows listing and the Premiere 4 couldn't find the Premiere 2.
A Premiere XL4 and an old Tivo HD could see both the Premiere 2 and the Premiere 4 but the Premiere 4 was listed as a Premiere Q.
I couldn't find anything on the Tivo support site or in our forums about this issue but I'm assuming a software update changed the 4 to a Q. I called Tivo support and got a  response from the rep and a, "That can't happen. The Q isn't a consumer device." answer.
I was just wondering if anyone else's 4 has changed. Thanks in advance for your responses.
I'm interested in getting a mini but I don't want to buy a MoCa adapter and would rather use ethernet. My question is if I have one lead going from the router directly to the mini, and then another lead going first to a switch, then to the Roamio (base model, 4 tuner, using only OTA) will that setup work, or do both devices need to be directly connected to the same router (or same switch). Thanks!
The question says it all. I've used the older 85 Mbps Netgear Powerline gear for several years to connect my TiVos and other equipment. Video streaming has been a secondary priority, but it works well for streaming Netflix and other services on my Roku 3 or on the TiVos. More recently, however, I was trying to use it with a Mini in a location where there is no coax so MoCa isn't an option.
Programming on the Mini starts to play fine but after a 30 seconds or so the video and audio become choppy. I've now upgraded to 500 Mbps Powerline equipment so this is no longer a problem for me, but I still don't understand why the streaming services worked fine with the older equipment but content from the TiVo did not. Is it simply a matter of different video formats or compression?
I just upgraded my Tivo Premiere drive with a 3TB WD AV-GP drive. I cloned the drive with the Ross Walker instructions using the Premiere JMFS Linux Boot CD ISO.
The process went very smoothly and took just over 2 hours to clone the drive, expand, and supersize it.
The final volume boots in the system perfectly and reads that I have 401 hours of HD capacity. With calculation I came up with a total of 421 hours (properly using binary 1024, etc.) and the new Roamio 3TB system says it has 450 hours.
I just wanted to check that my 401 hours is inline with what others were seeing with their 3TB upgrades? Not that I'm complaining . . . 401 hours is far more than the previous 45 hours. ;) I know the Roamios boot from flash, so is this where the extra space went?
Worth an ask :)
Willing to pay (but please don't rip me off if it's one you've previously had for free!) :D
Seem to have missed out on a few that are going spare on here :( :( :( (someone's hoovering them up i'm sure  )
Network card and harddrive would be a welcome bonus (as would the little IR things as the one on my current one is knackered and the blaster isn't always 100%)
edit: I'm north staffs / south cheshire incidently :) happy to pay postage tho obviously
Been having signal issues again. Tuner 1 is barely getting any signal and snr jumps from 9 to 21 and back over and over. Tuner 0,2 and 3 all have 90% and 36 snr. Comcast tech came out and put in a new splitter and then replaced the line from the pole to the box (squirrels had done some chewing), checked the line from the box to house entry (it was fine) and replaced the line from the wall to my roamio. All the cables read good for his tests.
Any other ideas? I'm stumped, he suggested sending out the supervisor with some cable cards as a last ditch effort. I'm starting to think I might have to replace my roamio.
Oh, and of course, my mini always picks tuner 1. So my second TV is useless for live viewing.
We have some guests visiting for a while and my wife wants to transfer shows from the bedroom XL Tivo to the home theater tivo. Both are TivoHD's one is XL. Each time she goes to transfer, the bedroom tivo doesn't show up on the HT tivo. I reboot the HT tivo and presto, its there and we can transfer. Next night, same thing, reboot to transfer.
No one is messing with the network, so is it a sign of age or other failure?
King of the Nerds, Season 3 premieres tomorrow, Friday 1/23/2015. 7pm MST here in Boise. As they say, check your local listings. If you deleted this SP 'cause you thought it was cancelled, think again! ;) Guilty pleasure for me.
Hi. I 've recently set up a MOCA network from a Roamio Plus and two Minis. One of the Minis frequently shows an error "finding a tuner..."
I haven't yet installed a MOCA POE filter because there is already a filter at the POE that I recall Comcast installing when I got their Voice service a while back. Unfortunately, the Comcast-installed filter doesn't have any (obviously visible) markings.
- Would MOCA signal leak cause the upstairs Mini to be unable to find a tuner? What could be other causes (no, I am not recording 6 shows at once on the Roamio)
- Any idea what this existing filter may be and will it cause any conflict with the MOCA POE filter? If no conflict, should the MOCA filter go before or after the existing filter?
I have two of these that have not been altered or added to. They both have lifetime.
I listed them for $200 each on CL and have lowered them to $175.
I have had very little interest.
Bay may be a better place to sell, but I see them going for a range of costs on Ebay, from $100-$250 depending on what it comes with, condition, etc.....
Both are fully in my name and transferable.
Is $150 about the most I can hope for?
Does anyone know how to transfer your recordings to a Mac? Thanks!
Does anyone know how this is done? Thanks!
