Tivo Mini still $88 at Fry's online. Free Shipping

Tue, 09/09/2014 - 09:57
I'm not sure how long it will last, but I was just able to order a Mini with free shipping from Frys.com.

Given the experience of others who had previously purchased Minis but not registered the unit, I assume that it will be eligible for free lifetime. Worth the try.

Mini wall mount and IR adapter

Tue, 09/09/2014 - 07:53
I am in need of one of these. I can order it at Tivo.com but after shipping and tax it would be around $35. Anyone have an extra one they are willing to sell? Let me know. Thanks

A little more development with the brother storyline. I guess the Dad was a real prick to all.

Updated Mini with ZigBee

Mon, 09/08/2014 - 22:14
http://www.engadget.com/2014/09/08/n...tgn-tcda93000/

Quote: That Zigbee spec could let it link up to a remote over RF for control without line-of-sight or -- more likely -- connect to home automation controls from TiVo itself, Nest, Control 4, or even the likes of Google / Apple / Samsung. I remember at CES in January, TiVo announced collaboration with control4 - any thoughts?

I suppose this could just be an RF remote refresh for the mini...

Your Money on CNN

Mon, 09/08/2014 - 22:04
In case anybody watches "Your Money" on CNN.. Set up another season pass for "City of Tomorrow". For at least several weeks, their guide data has showed "City of Tomorrow" in the "Your Money" time slot. CoT DID air once a while ago (and once more at least with the same ep but new air date).. Then they keep airing Your Money in the same time slot..

Roamio Pro and Premiere XL 4 on Same Network

Mon, 09/08/2014 - 21:30
I currently have 5 Tivo Premieres on the same wired network (2 are XL4) as well as a Tivo Stream. I am looking to purchase a Roamio Pro to replace one of the Premieres but have a couple of questions:
  • Will the Roamio be able to play the shows recorded on the Premieres and vise versa?
  • WIll I be able to transfer shows between the Roamio and Premiere?
  • WIll my ipad be able to stream shows from the 1) Tivo Stram from shows on the Premieres and 2) shows on the Roamio Pro which has a separate streaming device built in?
  • Any other issues I need to be concerned about with having a Roamio and Premiere on the same networK?

TiVo HD power supply - totally dead?

Mon, 09/08/2014 - 20:34
The other day I noticed my TiVo HD (TCD652160) wasn't on and immediately started to investigate. Looking at the power supply (ST7002-BW0G, REV:A), I don't see any obviously bad capacitors, and it appears to be totally dead. There's absolutely nothing on the 12V, 5V, and 3.3V outputs. The posts I've seen seem to suggest that usually one of those outputs is bad but the others are ok.

Does anyone have an idea what may be wrong? I'm not seeing any obvious issues, and the fuse is fine. Is there something to fix, or is it just a matter of buying a new power supply?

720p content looks better on Tivo than the Motorola 7216

Mon, 09/08/2014 - 19:54
I have a Westinghouse 1080p LED TV. Does anyone else who have used a Motorola DVR in the past notice that 720p content looks more crisp on the Tivo compared to the Motorola DVRs?

Roamio Pro to Mini hook-up - newb question

Mon, 09/08/2014 - 18:50
I am a total newb when it comes to Tivo (all these terms are hard to figure out) - just switched back after many years (pre-HD).

So... I just bought and installed a TiVo Roamio Pro (3TB) - $500 Amazon - in the Family Room. I have a Comcast TV (Premier TV package with HD and Sports) and Internet (Blast) with a single cable line coming into my house. I used a cable splitter, and split the cable to go to my modem and to the Roamio. Activated Tivo - monthly TiVo now and 30 days to decide on lifetime and have my monthly charge credited. Everything works great (TV and internet).

OK... so I ordered a TiVo Mini ($85 Amazon) - just arrived - and will wait to see if they offer Lifetime service for $50 as speculated before I active. My question is basic (but confusing to me...).

The Mini is intended for the bedroom which has a coaxial cable line (from Direct TV - not Comcast) - my question is... how do I set-up the Mini?

Meaning - it is obvious that I have to split the cable line again - do I use a 1 to 3 splitter (vs the 1:2 splitter I currently have)? Or do I need a MoCa splitter? Where do I make the split?
Make sense?

"Sons of Anarchy" final season premiere ep - 9/9/14

Mon, 09/08/2014 - 18:42
I know I'm jumping the gun but I just went into my to-do list to make sure the season pass was set up and noticed that the premieire is TWO AND HALF HOURS!!! Do you know how bad ass you have to be for a network to give you a two and half hour episode? lol. Given what this show does in a normal season, I can't wait to see what they have in store for the final run.

I am glad they're ending it though, I think the time is right. They've hit all kinds of themes and arcs and twists that if they keep going it will eventually tire out, but they set up this last run pretty well and I think it'll be a great ending.

Tivo set top box

Mon, 09/08/2014 - 17:52
No dvr.
Enough flash memory to pause live tv for an hour on it and 3 Minis.
Streaming services.
Playback of music/video from mobile devices.

Just a thought. Nothing I personally want. But I think a lot still don't use a dvr and something like this could have a lot of appeal if much cheaper than a dvr.

opera tv store not loading

Mon, 09/08/2014 - 16:54
opera tv store has failed to load for hours on my pxl 3 of the past 4 days, each time getting stuck on the hourglass. there's no error or time out message, and pressing tivo central always exits back to tivo.

i figured each time it happened opera was down, so i waited, and after several hours, it began to operate normally. it's not a big inconvenience, but i couldn't find any other trouble reports in the forum, and this is the first trouble i've had using the opera tv store app - i regularly use it to view the nws radar to keep from having to leave the tv or access another device, and until recently it's been a solid app.

anyone else having troubles?

Streambaby Stretching Issue

Mon, 09/08/2014 - 14:55
Hi, I've been using Streambaby for years and love it, but my anamorphic widescreen content (aspect ratio of 2.35 or 2.40) gets stretched vertically. I've read others having this problem have been able to fix it by just changing from FULL to PANEL aspects on TiVo, but no such luck for me.

I have a ton of videos like this and I really don't want to go back and re-encode them all. According to this page, I shouldn't have to:
http://www.tivocommunity.com/tivo-vb...?p=7097293...6
"Non-standard resolutions are supported; videos do not have to be encoded in 1280x720 or 1920x1080 to display in the correct aspect ratio. Streambaby will add black bars to the top and bottom so 1.85:1, 2.35:1, 2.40:1, and other non-16:9 videos display in the correct aspect ratio."

The black bars are not being added to mine. I have a Premiere and a S3. Streambaby is running on a Win7 machine. Here's an example MediaInfo entry for a movie that will be stretched (this one is HD, but it also stretches for SD anamorphic movies):

TWC installed today, brought CableCard but no tuner adapter!

Mon, 09/08/2014 - 14:19
When I called them back early last week when I found out I needed to make sure they are including a tuner adapter the told me they added it to the order for me. Fast forward to today and the installation guy told me it was on the order for him to install but they don't send those with the drivers, they are mailed to our home before the installation date. The rep on the phone said the install guy will have it. They shipped one out today and I should have it by the end of the week.

Question, can I just install the CableCard without the adapter and will I get any channels (at work now so can't try it) or do you need the adapter to get any channels?

channel guide on mini

Mon, 09/08/2014 - 13:48
Does the host tivo channel guide need to be on "all channels" for me to see all channels on the mini. In other words if I go to bed and leave the host tivo on "favorites" do I have to get out of bed and change it to "all" to see all the channels on mini?

Guide Data

Mon, 09/08/2014 - 13:38
I'm only getting less than 4 days of guide data. Anyone else having this problem? Do I need to connect to the TiVo Service in order to have the complete 9 days of guide data download?

TiVo customer service just lost a customer of over 15 years

Mon, 09/08/2014 - 13:32
I can't believe what a farce getting my account straightened out has been. Like a good TiVonation citizen, every time I bought a new TiVo, I would give my old one to someone else so they could enjoy the great benefits of TiVo. Turns out, I had been paying for that service all this time and was supposed to be paying the $6.99 rate, but was being charged $12.95. So I call to get it all squared away and they offer to credit me 3 months of the $12.95 and suspend charging my account until December. I agree that that is fair and equatable, I should have caught it myself. Then I look at my bank account and there sits another charge of $12.95 processed today!

I have canceled my last monthly subscription with TiVo and can't believe a company would treat its most loyal customers this way!!

Big Brother 9/7/2014 - HoH and Nominations

Mon, 09/08/2014 - 12:05
So Frankie wins HoH but it will all reset anyways, except maybe to piss off a few people along the way...most likely Cody.

I sorta agree with them that if you're in the Big Brother house and there is a choice, you almost have to push the button. You know that most people watching will want to see whatever it is happen.

And Jeff and Jordan's engagement was cute. It's still fun to watch those two.

(Another) restarting issue

Mon, 09/08/2014 - 11:28
I tried searching for this in the forums, but it looks like it’s a unique problem. I even called TiVo Customer Support, but they had never heard of this issue either (although a couple of possible problems were suggested). In any case, here is the problem, which seems to have only started last night:

When I watch a show I’ve recorded and I get to the end, I push Left/Back on the remote (instead of pushing the TiVo Central button), I hear the chime, and the options pop up at the bottom of the screen to keep the recording or delete; usually I select Delete, since I’m done watching the show, and it goes Back to the Now Playing List instead of TiVo Central. But last night when I was done watching an hour-long show, I pushed Left and heard the chime, but nothing came up – and the the TiVo shut down and restarted (which takes a while, of course). Once it was back on, I went back to the Now Playing List and deleted the show by just highlighting and deleting it.

Since the TiVo had restarted, I was hoping the issue had resolved itself; so this morning I watched another recorded hour-long show, and did the same thing when it was done: pushed Left/Back. I heard the chime again, and then the TiVo shut down and restarted again. How frustrating! I tried a half-hour show that had been recorded and skipped to the end, but when I hit Left, I heard the chime as normal, and the options to keep or delete did come up; I was then able to go to the Now playing List as normal. So it seems that an hour-long show will cause this problem, but not a half hour. (I haven’t even tried a movie, since I’m concerned that the length of the recording may be an issue.)

Another odd thing about this is my family and I watched an hour-long show that aired last night. We didn’t start watching when it first began, so we started it from the Now Playing List; and when we were finished watching it, I was able to do my “shortcut” with the Left arrow and delete the show without any problems. It wasn’t until I watched the show last night, and another one this morning (which were both recorded on Saturday night), that the problem started.

The age of the unit may very well be a contributing factor: it’s a Series 2, and according to my account that I viewed on the TiVo website, it was activated in 2006. After the show caused the unit to restart for the second time this morning, I tried permanently deleting some recordings from the Recently Deleted folder, but it happened again when I tried deleting something from the Now Playing List later.

The Customer Support agent I spoke to was very nice and did her best to help me, but was not able to resolve the issue (which is why I’m trying here). She suggested that the tuner in the unit may be at fault, although I still don’t understand how a tuner, which handles the live TV signal coming into the TiVo, could cause a recorded program to cause my issue. While still on the phone with her, I did try disconnecting the coaxial cable from the TiVo and then tried deleting a recording using the shortcut, and it still caused the unit to shut down and restart. She also suggested contacting weaknees.com to ask about estimates for a repair, so I still have that option. But if the TiVo’s hard drive is going (which is entirely possible, given its age and usage), it might be cheaper and more practical to just get a new unit (although that may not be possible right now).

SO…Anyone else have a similar issue? If so, were you able to fix the problem? How? Any help with this is greatly appreciated! Thank you in advance to anyone that might have suggestions or solutions.

EAS Weather Alerts for Wrong County

Mon, 09/08/2014 - 10:17
Hi - I browsed through the many threads about EAS weather alerts but didn't see anything applicable to my scenario. Not to say there aren't any just to say, I looked but didn't see any. My apologies if this is redundant.

Yes, the EAS alerts are a pain but I wouldn't mind so much if the alerts were for the county where my Tivo is located. I live in Long Beach CA which is in LA County. My Tivo interrupts viewing and recordings with EAS alerts for Riverside County. Do you know how many fires and flash floods take place in Riverside County? I do now and it's a lot! The message displays Verizon Fios Pomona (a city in Riverside County) and a code VH003 or something. I contacted Verizon, thinking they had control over the EAS and updating my account with the correct county. They do not.

Is there anyway to fix it so I only get alerts for the county I live in? If you know So Cal, you know there's a whole other county (Orange County) between me and Riverside County. I live at the beach and other than high surf, tidal wave or hurricane (those last two have never happened but technically I guess they could), not much happens in terms of "emergency" weather. If one can opt-out of these alerts on one's smartphone, it seems to me one should be able to opt-out on one's Tivo. If that's not an option, I should at least only be bombarded with alerts that serve my county. Any advice or suggestions?
