Can't Connect to Pro in iOS App

Mon, 04/07/2014 - 21:33
Hi all,

Maybe you guys can help me…

My Roamio got updated to the latest OS (it happened even though I wasn't on any kind of list for it). I noticed occasional slowness so I rebooted the box.

I don't know if this is related but after the reboot my iOS App can connect to the Roamio. The Roamio is online and can successfully connect to the TiVo service. I get this error in the app:

Communication Error. There was a problem connecting to the TiVo service. Please try again or press OK to retry now.

The error info is:

Any ideas what this is or how to fix? Thanks in advance...

Netflix Button

Mon, 04/07/2014 - 19:17
Wouldn't it be nice to program one of the colored buttons to open up Netflix regardless of where you are in the interface? Perhaps the red one? I know some of those buttons are used for sorting options in the now playing list but what about on the tivo central screen? I'd take it there. I hate having to scroll through my now playing list or through the what to watch list.

Fios cablecard install....zero problems

Mon, 04/07/2014 - 18:05
Just a bit of positive info here: I just installed a Roamio Plus with a cablecard from Verizon Fios. I followed the Guided setup in Tivo, activated the cablecard (after inserted in the Roamio) via Verizon's self install web page, and presto....everything works, including all my premium channels. No call or chat with tech support needed

Tivo audio in Dolby digital?

Mon, 04/07/2014 - 18:04
Is there any method to capture Dolby digital in transfers from the TiVo instead of two channel PCM? I assume if such would be possible it would be a advanced video processing in capturing the optical sdif and remuxing it with the video?

Am I just crazy to think such would be possible?

Silicon Valley - Pilot - OAD 4/6/14

Mon, 04/07/2014 - 17:11
No thread? I enjoyed the show.

My favorite line was from Kumail Nanjiani-I love him anyway-and he delivered it perfectly-I already deleted the ep, so paraphrasing, but it was about how the men and women divide themselves at the Silicon Valley parties just like at a Chassidic Wedding...:D:D:p;)

That Erlich dude is deluded-hilarious! I loved his "I know HTML-How To Meet Ladies" t-shirt...and how he told Richard "You see me as a guy who has it all together..." Um, yeah...

"That's a bad doctor in there..." :o

I will definitely watch for now...several LOL moments for me...what did others think? :)

What unit is TiVo reporting recording sizes in?

Mon, 04/07/2014 - 15:50
When TiVo reports that a recording is 6.15 GB in size, is it talking about 10^9th bytes or 2^30th bytes?

Why a separate out-of-home streaming setup option in TiVo iPad app?

Mon, 04/07/2014 - 15:38
The TiVo iPad app lets you check or uncheck the setup option for out-of-home streaming. While in-home streaming is checked by default, OOH streaming must be checked manually. From a technical point of view, why is this? I'd think it would make better sense to always set up for both IH and OOH streaming. Is there some reason why a user would ever want IH streaming enabled but OOH streaming disabled?

I am a new Roamio Plus user and a new iPad app user, and I'm just wondering about this.

Series 3 locks up after https access.

Mon, 04/07/2014 - 14:25
I have a Series 3 that I have been trying to set up file transfer to my PC on. Whenever I try to access the S3 via https (through kmttg or just using a browser), I can log in with my MAK, but I get no response from the server after log in, and then I notice these symptoms:

* The S3 no longer responds to ANY remote command or front panel button presses.
* The S3 will continue to record and display video.
* Eventually the S3 will spontaneously reboot.

A few years ago I upgraded the internal hard drive and it's been trouble free since then.

I have verified that I have my S3 set up for file sharing and its name is correctly set.

I also have a Roamio Pro, and I have no problems accessing it through https. I also have no problems transferring programs between the S3 and the Roamio.

I'm wondering is if there is a problem with a program name on the S3, or if I have too many programs (I have around 200) on the S3? Or is it something else?

Copying shows from old Tivo to new

Mon, 04/07/2014 - 13:18
Is there no way to batch move shows directly from one Tivo to another? (i.e., more than one at a time)

I have a Premiere and am thinking about buying a Roamio. I have Tivo Desktop installed and thought I read somewhere that, once downloaded to the computer, I could "push" them to the new unit. Is that true?

So my options are:

1) Set up new Roamio and queue one show at a time (copied directly from Premiere to Roamio)

2) Copy all Premiere shows to computer, then push to Roamio with:

a) Tivo Desktop, or
b) pytivo

DELETE THIS THREAD.Game of Thrones: Season Four & NO Book Discussion **TV spoilers **

Mon, 04/07/2014 - 12:44

Post in the episode thread. http://www.tivocommunity.com/tivo-vb...d.php?t=516315

No book spoilers!

It occurred to me that I have no real compelling reason to stick with GoT, with most of the "hero" characters gone.

We have only 1) Arya, 2) Danerys, 3) (sorta) Tyrion, 4) Bran, and 4) John Snow

I have a feeling that 1) and 2) are going to continue to be a dragging on & On & on & On saga where they never get to the final payoff slaughter.

Ditto with 4) We may fight the "freemen" but we ain't never gonna see them white walkers.

3) Tyrion is the only bad guy that's fun to watch.

I assume it's not a spoiler that they've telegraphed that Cercie will go after Shae to give Tyrion "the taste of ashes." Let's see if he comes up with another clever way to do a payback.

Where's Varys? Littlefinger? Bran and Hodor? Semi-lord Greyjoy?

Roamie Plus vs Pro

Mon, 04/07/2014 - 11:37
Hi all,

I am giving up DirecTV and I am going to FiOs. So far I HATE Vz's DVR box and I am going to get a Tivo again.

What is the difference between the Plus and the Pro besides the drive size?

With FiOS, can I still do 'on-demand', not that I found that useful either.

If I get the Mini's with it, can they pause/ rewind live programming too? Or just the main box.

Is there a way to transfer the 'lifetime' membership from a DirecTv box to a new Roamie?

Thanks for any advice

Metal Hurlant Chronicals?

Mon, 04/07/2014 - 09:14
SyFy is going to air a show called Metal Hurlant Chronicles. It looks like another import since my tivo's description says it's from 2013. I figure somebody here must have seen it already. After briefly checking online, it's based on a comic book series. Is it worth watching?

Premiere 4 & Video Out's

Mon, 04/07/2014 - 00:27
I am new to the Tivo world and with out moving cabinets around and experimenting.. ..can any one tell me all the video outs are "LIVE"??
While I currently have it set up using HDMI to my TV.. ..in days gone by I use to have a DirecTV receiver where all the out puts were live and had a A/V-> UHF converter which allowed the viewing of the program tuned in to be viewed (not in HD I know) on other TV's connected to the homes coaxial RF cable when tuned into the pre-set channel.. ..but after a software upgrade DirecTV disabled all the output if an HDMI cable was plugged in.. ..so can I connect A/V cables to the Premiere and us my UHF converter again?
E ----->A/V--->UHF---> WHOLE HOUSE RF:confused:

MOCA With Roamio pro question

Sun, 04/06/2014 - 23:45
I have read dozens of threads but have not seen one that seems to apply to my situation. I am moving into an apartment building in Oakland Ca and will be using a Roamio Pro with two minis. I'd like to plan the Moca network. Here's the situation...

I will be using Comcast for my TV but a different vendor (web pass) for Internet. The two services enter the premises in different rooms. Comcast comes through in a communications box located in the master bedroom closet. Then there are four separate cables going to four outlets around the apartment.

Web pass comes in the second bedroom which will be configured as an office. That room has one cable run from the communications box.

Most of the active TV viewing/Tivo usage will occur in the living room, which is relatively far away from the TV and Internet entry points.

I was thinking of doing one of two things...

1) place a Moca adapter in the second bedroom, attaching the cable outlet as well as the Ethernet output. But if I do that what kind of splitter setup do I need at the communications box in order to make the Moca network work?

2) Alternately, I suppose I could place the Roamio in the office and hook it up to the cable outlet and Ethernet there. But again, what configuration does my wiring need to be at the communications box for Moca to work?

Thanks for your help and advice!

A little bummed with mini...

Sun, 04/06/2014 - 23:01
I just got my mini and I have installed it in my living room. My base tivo is a roamio pro (in my bedroom). I got it so I could watch my recordings in the living room, which is great by the way.

But... The "live tv", I was expecting something different. I thought it was going to be more like a slingbox in a sense where not only could I watch my recordings I was hoping to be able to hit the left arrow button or info button and be able to scroll through all my tuners and switch between them as well.

Having just one tuner is just not enough. I really like flipping through different tuners while watching a few hockey games or tv shows at the same time. I was hoping I'd be able to do that with the mini, unfortunately you can not.

Does anyone know if this is a functionality that the mini could have if the software was updated? Is this something I should put in the "suggestions" section?

That's all, just saying this so that people who are thinking about getting a mini understands that it doesn't do this.
