Modern Family - Connection Lost - 2/25/2015 *spoilers*

Thu, 02/26/2015 - 03:23
Wow, that was a very interesting episode. I heard an interview with Steve Levitan and he talked about how the whole episode was filmed on iPhones, iPads, and MacBooks. I'm surprised at how good the video quality was. And the way they wrote the story in such a way that it could be filmed like that and make sense was great.

I knew it was going to turn out that Haley had lost her phone, but they did a good job of having all the clues seem legit.

Loved that Claire's bookmark for porn takes her to her Pinterest page for "Organization Porn."

The Amazing Race - Blind Date S26E01 02/25/2015

Thu, 02/26/2015 - 03:18
Interesting dynamics with half the teams meeting for the first time at the starting line. I thought for sure the couples that knew each other would have a major advantage, but not in this first leg.

Sorry to see the Pilot/Flight Attendant go so early. I figured with their travel savvy, they'd be in the race for a long time. But man, was he uncoordinated. Bet they were really kicking themselves when they went to the other side of the U-turn and found out that task only took 10-15 minutes after the spent nearly 4 hours on the Syncing task.

I really hope the NKOTB guy doesn't last very long in the race, because I can already tell I'm going to have that stupid song stuck in my head for days after every episode.

Tivos to give away

Wed, 02/25/2015 - 22:33
Hello, this is my first forum post. I do not know if this is the correct area - if not, please point me in the right direction

We have two TIVOs to give away.

We live in Silicon Valley and are looking for a good home for them (free of course).
*Series 2: Pioneer TIVO HDD/DVD Recorder DVR 810HS (with remote). When plugged in, the fan starts up, but nothing powers on (Ex cannot open or close the DVD drive). No idea if this has a lifetime service contract as we inherited it from a friend.
*Series 1: Philips PVT100. Our first TIVO which we won in a contest eons ago (nostalgic sniff). It still works (can be used as stand alone recorder). Requires a monthly service contact.

We prefer local pickup if possible.

Survivor Worlds Apart : "It's Survivor Warfare" OAD 2-25-2015

Wed, 02/25/2015 - 20:48
That was a good enough start, but I am getting tired of the artificial tribe divisions that we all know won't last more than 2 or 3 episodes. This year seems especially forced.

I'm impressed that 2 of the tribes actually made their own fire! That was some pretty lousy lie that So and Sierra told and hilarious that (can't remember her name) found the idol instead. Too bad she had to tell someone that she had it, but I think she needed to.

All in all, looks like an interesting cast. I'm happy Survivor is back! :)

Move drive from Tivo 3 to Romeo

Wed, 02/25/2015 - 20:18
A few years ago, I upgraded by Tivo 3 through Weaknees. My unit will now record up to 288 hours in HD.

I found I qualified for a Romeo with lifetime service for $400 (I want to keep the option of OTA,)--but it can record only 75 hours in HD.

This leads me to a few questions:

1. Can I transfer the second drive from the Tivo 3 to the Romeo? Are the machines compatible?

2. Can I do it myself of should I have a tech do it? I’m capable of replacing a hard drive in a desktop or a laptop.

3. I assume I will void the warranty, so it would probably be in my best interest to wait 90 days. Do you agree or disagree?

Thanks in advance for your advice.

Losing Sound when searching

Wed, 02/25/2015 - 19:39
We have had our Roamio for about 3 months and recently we have started losing sound when searching either forward or backward and resume to watch at regular speed. The sound isn't coming back on. I don't think we ever saw this problem until the One Pass update. It's very random, and seems to correct itself if I go to live TV and change the channel. PITA that shouldn't be happening.

Streaming options

Wed, 02/25/2015 - 19:14
I was real close to buying a tivo stream until I discovered a nearly free option

For file conversion I use PAVTUBE, it converts tivo to almost anything
http://www.multipelife.com/free-vide...erter-ultimate
I use WMV or MP4 conversion but have also tested several others and they convert just fine.

I also use PLEX MEDIA SERVER https://plex.tv/ (I'm guessing the same thing as tivo stream) then stream them to my ipad/phone with anyplace that has a wifi connection or you can use data. The streaming server is free but if you want to physically transfer them onto your portable devices it's like $5.00 month or $150.00 lifetime subscription and the App is $5.00. It works with roku also. I just go the free route, once files are added to the library you can access them from anywhere with the app. Conversion quality is no issue like it has been for me with the tivo transfer conversion

Anybody know of a free commercial editing software? Videoredo works great but I'm just to cheap to spend the money

American Idol XIV (14) - Auditions, Hollywood and Pre-Live Shows Thread

Wed, 02/25/2015 - 18:29
Even though I know that there is a lot of AI-fatigue amongst us, I am a little surprised that there has been no thread activity on season 14...

I am not a fan of season threads, but since there are no threads up until this point, I decided to do a pre-live show thread... Any new threads can be episode specific threads...

I guess my only comment is that I had three favorites going into the pre-live shows:
  • Jax
  • Hollywood Anderson
  • Maddy Hudson

Only one of my horses made it into the big race :(

I am most disappointed that Maddy from Pleasanton, CA (a local girl here in the SF Bay Area) didn't get the nod...

The Official Binge Watch Thread

So what do you binge watch?

Me, I'm just finishing up M*A*S*H on DVD and starting with The X-Files on Amazon...

Person of Interest - S04E16 - “Blunt” - 02/24/2015

Wed, 02/25/2015 - 18:19
I have mixed feelings about writing this as while I’m not going to call this episode a “stinker” but it’s probably the worst episode of POI this season.

This week’s number was “Harper”, the smooth grifter who ripped off a medical marijuana dispensary.
Of course, the problem is that she stole the money from Dominic which is why she is on Team Machine’s radar.

I realize that Sarah Shahi’s pregnancy has had the writers scrambling a bit and I’m not against auditioning some Shaw replacements (at least interim replacements) but if this was an audition for “Harper”, I have to give it a thumbs down.

I realize that we’re not going to like every person who’s number comes up by necessity of the mandate to save everyone they can. (Elias is a great example of this.)
But I think Leon serves the function of saving someone we don’t like far better than “Harper” did.

Other than making a few observations about Finch and Reese, “Harper” doesn’t really work with the team as much as making them serve her needs/plans as opposed to being someone who could be a good fit for Team Machine.

This point is driven home when the writers have Reese turn his back on “Harper” so she could club him?
Really?
In what Universe does Reese allow that to happen?

The only thing that was interesting about this plot was Dominic’s interest in recruiting her and Dominic scheming.

Fortunately, the Root subplot was far more interesting this week.
Ms. Groves is on a Machine assignment to build an app to “attract people”.

Is this the Machine recruiting an army?
And is former number Calvin Phipps the first new recruit?

Also, I did notice the “Stop Big Data” protest at the college.

Is this supposed to happen?

Wed, 02/25/2015 - 16:19
I've got a OnePass setup for PTI (Pardon the Interruption on ESPN). I tell it to record only new episodes and keep at most 3.

Yet every day when I go into the PTI folder there are a half dozen NOT new recordings of ancient reruns they apparently show at some ungodly hour over on ESPN News or some place like that. They all have the yellow circle with '!' even though they were only recorded a few hours ago, not a few days ago.

Does this make any sense according to the rules for OnePass anyone might understand?

Tivo fails when connecting to Tivo Central

Wed, 02/25/2015 - 15:48
My Tivo has not phoned home in over 10 days. When I try to force a call, it connects, starts to configure, and hangs until it times out. My guide data is starting to run out.

This is a Tivo HD with lifetime

how to record at later time?

Wed, 02/25/2015 - 13:47
when I press record on tv guide on sunday afternoon, it records from the start. Is there a way for me to record a program 2-3hrs after it's start time?

I'm trying to record PGA golf live but I'm only interested in watching the last 30minutes but when I click record there's no way to record it at later time. but it does have option to extend recording since it's live event.

Frontier to enable cord cutters, market TiVo's Roamio OTA

Wed, 02/25/2015 - 11:55
Interesting - Frontier has entered a deal with TiVo to market the OTA Roamio.

http://www.fiercecable.com/story/fro...ota/2015-02-25

Quote: Broadband services provider Frontier Communications has struck a deal with TiVo to market the DVR maker's Roamio OTA set-top to its high-speed Internet customers.

The OTA (short for "over the air") combines access to free broadcast channels with apps to OTT services like Netflix--no pay-TV allowed. It doesn't do pay-TV.

Frontier will make the device available to its customers starting in mid-2015, and it will mark the first time the Roamio OTA has been marketed through any kind of pay-TV or broadband services operator.

TiVo has successfully marketed its non-OTA Roamio DVRs through pay-TV operators, adding a whopping 337,000 MSO customers in the third quarter of last year alone. But this is the first time an operator has shown interested in the cord-cutter-targeted OTA device.

Frontier currently touts 2.4 million high-speed Internet customers, but that number should swell to 4.6 million pending the closure of the company's purchase of Verizon's wireline operations in California, Florida and Texas.

Frontier will be able to configure the Roamio OTA as a whole-home gateway DVR, pairing it with TiVo Mini client devices. Multiscreen and remote scheduling functions are available via the TiVo Web site, or via iOS or Android mobile apps.

"TiVo's latest generation OTA platform enables us to launch a game-changing new service with delivery of the best of broadcast television, seamlessly integrated with over-the-top video, bundled with Frontier's high-speed data service," said Frontier president and COOI Dan McCarthy, in a statement.

Justified - "Alive Day" - 2/24/15

Wed, 02/25/2015 - 08:42
Good episode. I enjoy it when Boyd/Raylan have scenes together. Limehouse dropping a dime on Ava was interesting. I've always liked Jeff Fahey. Six down, seven to go.

Marvel's Agent Carter "Valediction" 2/24/2015

Wed, 02/25/2015 - 05:45
I loved just about everything this series had to offer - well, other than the boring hypnotist getting so much screen time. I hope there's a season 2.

What nitwit put Zola in the same prison cell as Fennhoff?

I'm kinda happy that Dottie survived to probably be a bad guy in the possible second season. Maybe Lyndsay Fonseca can have a bigger role next season.

I wanted to pull my hair out when Peggy kept getting closer to Dottie at the beginning of their fight. Why do tv good guys keep doing that? Keep your distance and do what the Person Of Interest people do, shoot 'em in the kneecap.

Audio delay problem when switching channels

Wed, 02/25/2015 - 05:13
Model 652 w/ a CC & a tuning adapter on a TWC system.

All of a sudden, when I change channels, most of the time (no pattern) the video appears, but there is a 2-4 second delay in the audio. Also, there is a short burst of digital switching noise (rapid clicks) that lasts for a second before the program audio is heard.

I also had another round with the tuning adapter, all stations were black, power cycling solved that for now, but that is another story. I have a 2nd 652 w/ a TA and tried that on the problem setup, but the same thing with the audio.

The audio is routed through the Sharp TV's HDMI input (I tried the other HDMI input and the same thing). It leaves via the analog audio out (1/8" stereo mini that doubles as a headphone out) to an analog compact receiver.

This just started out of the blue. No pattern to which stations are affected. It also affects OTA stations (antenna), but not as much.

I'm thinking it's the TV itself though I haven't check that yet, but will. Any ideas on the delayed audio and this 'digital switching' burst of noise?

Is there a quick way to get to the bottom of the Season Pass Manager?

Wed, 02/25/2015 - 01:04
I tried using the number keys, but that only moved the show in the one slot to the bottom of the list.

Cox MLB and NHL Center Ice

Tue, 02/24/2015 - 21:10
I'm a Cox Orange County subscriber.
I am considering dumping the cox dvr for a roamio but need to know if the cablecard will let me view and, importantly, fully record my subscription sports services ( MLB and hockey ). Locally, these are channels 671-684

Some information I've seen would indicate I can tune these stations via cablecard but perhaps only record for 1 1/2 hours

Roamio vs Plus

Tue, 02/24/2015 - 20:35
Tivo is having a sale - $125 for the Roamio and $300 for the Plus. Not much use for streaming and don't know much about the MoCA adapter - are these good reasons to go with the Plus? I assume the HD can be relatively easily expanded, although you'd lose the lifetime warranty? Thanks!
