Create an Xfinity APP (that's also integrated into One Pass) for Roamio OTA vs requiring a physical cablecard to unscramble/access channels.
1. Many customers have online and mobile access to Xfinity via family member's subaccounts; especially those away at college in other states.
2. Using an app vs a cablecard is a more efficient use of resources. There's no need for cablecard to unscramble channels (extra step and hardware) when the user can be verified via the Xfinity TV GO app sign in.
I'm a college student who's family member created an Xfinity subaccount for me to be able to watch live and on demand programming online/via phone from another state.
I bought the Roamio OTA because of One Pass and Xfinity On Demand. Unfortunately, after signing up I found out that there isn't an Xfinity app and that I'd need a cablecard.
I was under the impression that you simply had integrated Xfinity app along with Amazon Instant Video, Netflix and Hulu Plus into the One Pass search feature. That and the tv guide feature would've justified the $15 monthly fee especially since I don't record broadcast tv because of commercials (no need for DVR).
Many channel apps (Showtime, HBO, etc.) are blocked for Comcast customers. I'd hoped, because of your partnership with Comcast/Xfinity, that I would finally have a streaming device that would integrate everything in one.
Note: I already own an Amazon Fire TV with Xfinity TV Go sideloaded. Unfortunately, Amazon has not done what it promised - to integrate it's search engine with results from Netflix and Hulu Plus or I would not have been looking for a solution.
Suggestions recently recorded Animal House on IFC. I love the movie, hate the channel. I don't want to watch a film that's all chopped up and especially in SD.
How can I use Suggestions to let TiVo know that I like a show or movie, but I don't want to watch it on a particular channel.
I assume the easiest thing to do would be removing the station from the channel list. But, I was hoping for something more elegant.
And, yes, I mistyped quandary.
Been happening for awhile now. I hit Clear to delete a recording and before it's done clearing I go to MRV - the whole box becomes unresponsive. The light on the front flashes like it's receiving the command, but I can't do anything and I can't connect with my phone either through the network.
Really weird bug that I hope gets fixed since I do it accidentally and it could kill a recording.
How is the performance of the mini's with the premiere units? My Premiere is really responsive with the later software versions.
I've thought about upgrading to a roamio, but the cost is pushing me away from it. I've found some lifetime Premiere XL4 units on craigslist for 150ish that has me interesting in just sticking with this platform for a little while.
Back in 2013 there was a thread with the same title. Unfortunately the tread went terribly off topic and it really got confusing trying to identify the possible fixes.
First, let's review the problem... Everybody involved with delivering TV content uses the same time standards using NTP that is traceable all the way back to the atomic clocks at the Naval Observatory. Everybody's equipment is within a couple of milliseconds of the standard. This includes the TiVo time adjustment pushed out to your DVR, the television networks, and the cable companies. BUT there is a delay in the time that actual programming gets from the TV network, through the cable company, all the way out to you. There are a number of valid technical reasons why this takes place but this is really out of scope for this discussion. The fact is that it happens with virtually all cable carriers and typically causes the TiVo DVR's to startup some number of SECONDS BEFORE the TV signal is available for the programming desired.
OK, you may say that skipping through a few seconds of content from the previous show may be a nuisance, but it's something that most of us can deal with. The real problem is at the other end of the recording. The TiVo not only starts up early but it also stops early. So you certainly can't view content that isn't recorded. In the old days this wasn't much of a problem where most of the content at the end of a show was advertising. But the networks have gotten smart and are now avoiding ads at the end of their programs with the hope that you will not switch when you get a taste of the next program that is starting.
Now this delay is pretty much repeatable on all channels and I have yet to experience any drift over many years on a few different TiVos. But not every cable system has the same delay, so it really needs to be adjustable at the end user location. As of today, there is still no configurable way of compensating for this delay in the TiVo settings that I'm aware of. So what are the alternatives?...
1. Add and extra minute or so to the stop time of all your recordings and OnePasses. This sort of works OK for a while until you run out of tuners on your TiVo. I have an Elite with four (4) tuners and I must say that I end up with a fair amount of recordings that end up being clipped due to not enough tuners being available. The bottom line is that this would almost never happen if the need to add extra time to every recording was not necessary. The bottom line is that this is a poor solution that fails often and one we shouldn't really be required to deal with.
2. Get our good friends at TiVo to add a new configuration setting to allow adjustment of the local TiVo time. Well I've certainly suggested this to TiVo support but so far they are reluctant to even admit there is an issue. When you are lucky enough to get somebody that understands the issue (and is probably familiar with it anyway); they point you to item #1 to 'solve' your problem. It seems to me that the good folks at TiVo are probably well aware with this issue and have been reluctant to provide any 'fix' for this other than what we have already because of the support issues it could potentially generate. Some users would not necessarily understand the configurable and would call support to ask questions regarding what it for. BUT... I suspect TiVo management would be much more inclined to do something about it if enough people contacted them and complained. So what is the threshold of 'enough'?... Good question. I suspect that this could be bandied about pretty good in this thread.
3. Come up with a reliable hack to fix it for ourselves. This obviously requires varying levels of expertise but it seems doable. But there are a variety of issues that come up surrounding this. Any hardware modifications should be avoided so that warranties don't get impacted and to generally reduce the need of acquiring parts and/or costly hardware modification equipment. But if a software fix is in order, then it needs to be as easy and semi-permanent as possible. What I mean by this is that it would be best if we we could get by with some sort of key combination on the remote, but I suspect that this is unavailable currently. I've read about old hacks involving removing the drive and booting it up on a linux based pc. Not necessarily a bad way to go, but difficult for most users who don't know what linux is let alone any knowledge of it, and most don't have a clue how to remove a hard drive and connect it let alone configure it to be accessed on another machine. Not an out of the question modification for some of us though BUT, BUT, BUT... we certainly don't want to do this every time that TiVo sends out a service update!
I can't think of any other potential fixes but I certainly don't know everything. Lets see what the masses here think...
I've been using Windows Media Center with a cable card tuner for about 7 years now. My cable company is Verison FIOS. On FIOS almost everything is marked as copy freely (except for a few things on FOX including NFL football). This means I can copy it to other drives, upload it to my cloud backup service and convert them to MP4 files to play on other devices.
I'm moving to a Tivo and want to know if I'll have the same liberties with all of the content on Tivo? Can I backup Tivo files to a PC drive, cloud backup service and convert them all to MP4 files for playing on other devices?
Just to reiterate there is no "Copy Once" flag on 99.99% of Verizon FIOS content so it should be able to be copied freely. I just want to make sure.
There were some VCR/DVD combos where the component outs were only active for DVD playback, not analog TV tuning or VCR playback.
I'm trying to help someone long distance and need to know if the component video outs on a Humax DRT800 can serve as its only video out to the TV even if the DVD part is never used.

How do I deactivate the AutoPlay feature in YouTube on my TiVo Roamio/Premiere? In one room my TiVo is my only access to YouTube, but sometimes I fall asleep and the AutoPlay (meaning that at the end of one video, another will automatically start playing) will continue to load and play videos for hours, and I don't want my ISP on my back.
I know how to do it on the PC, but not on TiVo.
I did go to the SETTINGS on YouTube on TiVo, but I found no way to deactivate AutoPlay.
I should add that I do NOT sign in on my YouTube account on TiVo, I just load YouTube on TiVo and enjoy. Let me know the answer, and if I must sign in to my account or if AutoPlay can be deactivated without signing on to an account. Thanks.
I have three Tivo Premiers attached to FIOS via separate Moca boxes on each device connected to house via coax. Thus I pay for 3 Tivo connections and 3 cable cards monthly. We have 4 tv's in the house, 2 used frequently, 2 not. I moved 2 Tivo boxes and assorted gear to Florida for the winter and now back here. We don't stream anything using the tv's.
Is there an alternative configuration I should investigate that saves money and allows me to move all to Florida for the winter again? We used Brighthouse tuning adapters and cable cards down there although all Brighthouse techs were clueless on Tivo. One guardian angel in the Tampa area saved us there!
This show has been on for about a month and so far not a mention of it. I heard Ben Stiller promote in on Howard Stern (he's in the first episode) so I thought I would give it a try. I will admit that I almost stopped watching after the first commercial break; I didn't think it was funny, just stupid. But it ended with me wanting to see more and now the show has grown on me. It's still stupid, but it's funny, too.
If you haven't seen it and want to give it a try, just get past the first episode, it gets better from there.
I thought a thread where comments on prominent guests making their last appearances with these two would be fun.

At my house I have a Windows Media Center (with cable card tuner) for me and a FIOS DVR for my wife. We have two different DVRs because she doesn't want to see all of my recordings clogging up her list of recordings. I currently have about 350 recordings and she likes to keep hers tidy and neat.
I'm replacing my WMC DVR with a Tivo Roamio Plus. I'd like to replace her FIOS DVR with the same Tivo, combining them into one. The question I have is whether or not I can categorize her recordings separately from mine so that when she goes to see recorded programs she doesn't see mine in the same list as hers. Is such a thing possible?
If not, then maybe we need two Tivos. That brings up a couple of questions:
1) How do two Tivos in the same room react to each remote control? Can each remote be designated for a specific Tivo?
2) I want to put Tivo Minis in other rooms. Can they switch back and forth between Tivos? Or are they tied to a specific Tivo?

Since no one has started a thread on this one I thought I'd get one going. The show was developed by Vince Gilligan (Breaking Bad) and David Shore (House, M.D.). It's basically an odd couple/buddy/cop show with Josh Duhamel (Las Vegas) and Dean Winters (Mayhem on the Allstate commercials). Josh plays a misplaced FBI agent transferred to Battle Creek, MI, and Dean plays a disgruntled detective on the BC police force that basically mix like oil and water. I found it mildly entertaining, but not up to expectations for a Vince Gilligan show. It's definitely been neutered somewhat by the network and doesn't have his usual edginess.
I heard something about being able to get Amazon Prime Videos on Tivos... although with RCN and what they call T6 (I think this is what RCN calls their Roamio Plus but not sure) and the 2 minis, I only see Netflix, RCN VoD, Youtube, MLB.TV, AOL ON, and WebVideo Hotlist in the apps area.
I'd really like Amazon and Spotify.. are these coming? Are they already there but I have to set them up manually, do I have to wait for RCN to add them?
It airs Sunday nights on Lifetime and stars Christina Ricci as Lizzy. I thought the pilot wasn't all that great, but the 2nd episode was much better. Ricci plays a pretty good Lizzy, which is what got me to watch it in the first place.
Yesterday I was watching a baseball game I recorded. I started watching on one Mini for a couple of innings. When exiting, I hit the TIVO Central button and then turned the TV off.
I went to another TV with a different Mini, turned it on and attempted to watch the baseball game from where I left off. Even though it had the choice to "Resume Playing" which I selected , it started playing from the beginning.
I fast forwarded to where I was and watched another couple of innings, clicking TIVO central before turning off the TV.
Then later I went to a third TV and this was connected to the Roamio. I attemped to pick up the game from where I was with the "Resume Playing" button but the game started over again!
Why is it doing this? I thought hitting the TIVO Central button would bookmark my location and when I try to resume watching it would pick up from there. Am I doing something wrong?
...but everything else still works fine.
Last night I noticed that Netflix wasn't in my Now Playing list. I checked the bedroom TiVo, and it was gone there as well. In addition, the TiVos could no longer see each other.
I went into Setup and both TiVos reported their last successful connection to be 4 days ago. I tried entering the router password on both and it failed to connect.
This is a setup that's been working for many years. The TiVos are both HD model boxes. Both are using the now several years old wireless adaptor. The router is a Verizon FiOS unit about 3 months old.
Everything else wireless in the house (laptop, 2 iPhones, 2 iPads, AppleTV, and the television itself) are functioning as usual.
Before I start making phone calls and sitting on hold, I'm hoping someone can give me some suggestion what might have happened. It would be great if I could fix that myself.
Much as I hate it, I guess the Rod, Will, Tyler, Carolyn secret alliance is a real thing. It's a great deal for Tyler and Carolyn. They had nothing but are being carried towards a final 4 where either of them would mop up for the win.

Joe's fake idol was great, best ever. Too bad it didn't help. Seems like Joe, Jenn, and Hali had good ideas about what needed done, but were lousy at implementing. I know we only see what the editors decide to show us, but it's been frustrating to watch. I would have loved for Jenn to win that immunity and give it to Joe. Oh, well.

I recently cancelled my DirecTV service (after 17 years) and was surprised that I no longer had access to the recorded content on my DirecTivo DVR. Does anyone know if it's possible to get access to the saved content in any way?
