Anyone else watching this? It used to be Truck Stop Missouri. I find myself oddly fascinated by it. It's definitely worth checking out if you haven't seen it. The place is pretty massive. It reminds me a little of driving by South of the Border on the NC/SC border, or through Breezewood when going to/from MD.

Charter is changing its lineup tonight. its moving channels around. do i need to delete all my season passes and redo do them? charter says i might need to reset the tivo.

New Tivo Premiere missing network / broadband features (HDUI, VoD...)

I purchased a new Tivo Premiere directly from Tivo, and after 1 week, am still missing my Network/Broadband features (e.g., High Definition menus, Video on Demand, etc.).

I tried repeated attempts at setup, connecting to Tivo, rebooting, all to no avail...

I finally called Tivo, and they quickly told me that my box needed to be added to certain "Groups" at the Tivo servers. They said it would take 72 hours. It sounds like Tivo has a major backlog in provisioning new Permiere boxes to receive the Network/Broadband features from their servers.

This is especially frustrating given that I purchased it directly from Tivo. I expected it to arrive pre-activated (it was) and pre-provisioned (it was NOT).

I tried the unchecking and re-checking of the sharing/download boxes from my www.tivo.com account. This had no effect, and my TivoToGo never got to a,a,a, but rather transitioned from i,i,i (when boxes were unchecked online) and i,i,a when they were rechecked.

My System Information shows I am HDUI capable, but that the HDUI was not enabled. Again, more symptoms of not being provisioned at their servers.

Today, when I logged into my on-line tivo account, I now notice this message:
"...We're still processing your activation...", which is weird, since I was activated earlier in the week. Perhaps this is a sign of progress that I am finally being activated and provisioned for full network-based features.

Automatic Setting of Thumbs Up When Recording?

I'm new to TiVo and the whole idea of suggestions, but am seeing something I would prefer to disable if possible ...
Whenever I set a manual recording (using the guide), TiVo will automatically give the newly recorded program a thumbs up - this doesn't make a lot of sense to me. Aren't suggestions based on what I like and not what I record? Or is the assumption that I only record the things I like ;) which isn't always true.
Can I turn off this specific "auto-tagging"?

I agree with the article that I think it's Sunday, followed by Wednesday and then Thursday. On those nights, there's always stuff I end up watching on the "other" DVR because of conflicts.

What the article failed to talk about, is that many of the shows on "cable" rerun at various other, more, convenient times for recording. For instance, I record Game of Thrones on the HBO West feed at midnight, so that my DVR is free to record other shows I have on at the same time as the east coast feed.

Compounding issues on Sunday night is CBS' insistence of running their full four hour slate of shows come heck or high water despite the likely hood a sporting event will run over (typical during the NFL season, March Madness and the Masters). So that means padding shows and further complicating the mess.

So what's your toughest night for your TV viewing?

My wife tends to put her Premiere unit into "pause" for long periods, like a half hour. She does this nearly every day. Does anyone know or have an opinion on the the long term effect, if any?

My Thoughts

-I wondered in the performance thread if this was the week Phillip or Colton landed in the bottom 3. I was right about that but I never expected one of them to actually be voted off.

-This is a huge boon to Phillip. If there is an army of teenage girls out there voting he is no longer splitting votes with Colton.

- I had a feeling Jessica would be safe after almost being eliminated. Those who get saved seem to ride that save for a week or two.

- Jimmy and I are in complete agreement on Elise. She needs to be rocking out and building on the audience that loved her Led Zepplin performance.

- I still don't understand the love for Joshua

- I imagine Ninny is banging her head against a wall knowing she has to watch Hollie again next week. But I think Hollie earned it last night.

- I think Jimmy might be on to one of the issues with Jessica. She is only 16 but both Hollie and Skylar (both 18) have more youthful enthusiasm.

- I honestly believe Skylar is the front runner now.

Oh well, at least she wears cute outfits and tonight was no exception. She can't sing great, but she does have good fashion sense.

As for Colton, I have been meh about him all season, and he really stank it up last night, so it wasn't shocking. I really am surprised that Elise didn't go home, but she is much better than Colton IMO.

I think now that Colton is gone, all his votes will swing to Phillip. He is almost guaranteed a spot in the final. It will be interesting to see who will be standing next to him...

Questions about remotes

I have a couple of questions someone might be able to explain. First after installing the new Tivo day before yesterday I found that there are times that the Tivo peanut remote sort of just doesn't work. Some or all the buttons do not respond. Sometimes hitting some other button reawakens it and other times I need to go to the Tivo itself and push a button (which I haven't had to do since I was a kid and had a tv with a rotary tuner). Although I am not planning on using this remote in the future, if it is defective I should get a new one before warranty is up.

The other one is I have updated my Harmony One for this Tivo and have noticed that the commands provided by Logitech aren't all there, and I have found a couple of them that don't work such as the Activate. I know I can 'learn' the remote but was wondering if others ran into that also?

Proposal:

Rename the "Images that make you giggle a little." thread as

"Images that make you giggle or say WTF"

then

Rename the "Videos that make you say WTF" thread as

"Videos that make you giggle or say WTF"


This works better than just beginning new threads. It keeps the history of each thread and it also stops people from posting in both the new threads and the old threads.

Tivo remote won't go into "learning mode"

when I press Tivo button and select button simultaneously the amber light that lights up on all my other Tivo remote to tell me I'm in learning mode never lights up. It lights up when I press buttons but just won't go into learning mode. Any advice?

Issue with Xfinity on demand on Tivo Premiere

Hello,

I am one of the lucky users who is in one of the right locations in the SF Bay and now have Xfinity on Demand on my Premiere Elite!

It worked very well last week ... for a couple of days, until Saturday.

Since Saturday (4/14), I can still access Xfinity on Demand, browse the shows / movies, see which are free or for a charge, and select one.
But when I select "Watch now", I am getting a black screen and, a few seconds later, an error message saying I should try disconnecting and reconnecting the cable, and if that does not work, I should contact Comcast with error number: SRM-8001.

I did the cable disconnect / reconnect - did not help.
I restarted the tivo box a few times - did not help.
I called Comcast, who had no idea what I was talking about (told me Tivo does not support on demand ...).

I have a Comcast tech coming over on Saturday, but am wondering if he'll be able to help ... wondering if the issue is on the tivo end or comcast end...

Frustrating, as it was working beautifully until Saturday....

Any Suggestions?

I was just setting up new Comcast service for my Mom and Dad in New Hampshire when I was told by the rep they won't be able to use their Tivo in just a few months, it will no longer be compatible with Comcast. Has this been out there, he said he just got this today, or is he just selling me on the Comcast DVR?
He said they are starting this in the Northeast, doesn't sound good for us Tivo users.
What do you all know about this.
I am 95% over the air so it won't bother me too much but I know it will a lot of you.

My Terrible TiVo Experience

Last Wednesday I purchased a Premiere to replace my Series 3 box from a private seller; unopened box. After setting everything up, including installing my CableCARD, transferring all content and Season Pass from the old box, everything was running well. Easy Breezy. Loved my new Premiere and its iPad companion. Thursday afternoon I sold my Series 3 with Lifetime, as I no longer had any use for it.

Then Friday afternoon I'd noticed I wasn't receiving some of my subscribed HD channels. I made a phone call to Verizon to have them add the channels to the card. After a reboot, the Premiere went into the dreaded startup loop. Then soon after, the green screen of death. I then went online and researched the issue. After many hours and a phone call to TiVo, we determined the hard drive had failed. This was less than two days up and running.

TiVo issued an RMA and hit me for a temporary charge of $108 to ship me out another box the same day. Meanwhile, I transferred the content from my Series 3 to my Mac, as I hadn't yet boxed and shipped it to its new owner.

I received the new Premiere yesterday. One week to the day that I'd purchased the first one. Upon its arrival, I opened the box and got started with the setup. Things seemed to be going well, but after the setup process the UI wasn't in HD, and there was no option to switch to it in Settings.

I made another call to TiVo and was initially told that I was using old software even though Settings showed I was on 20.2.0a. After many attempts at correcting the issue, I was told that my box hadn't received many required packet(?) updates, or something along those lines. It was going to be a day or so before I was to receive them because there were some known issues TiVo was having at the time. Ok. Fine. I could wait some more, if this was in fact an issue.

While on the phone with TiVo customer support, I had rebooted the box and consequently lost access to the CableCARD. We had no idea how this occurred. Now not only was I not able to use the HD UI or use any of TiVo's on demand services (the box was telling me I wasn't connected to the internet, though I was) but now I wasn't receiving any channels. This same box was broadcasting my channels just moments before, prior to the reboot.

The CSR told me that the card had to be paired and that a call to Verizon would be necessary. I called Verizon and was told the card was paired and looked fine on their end. I called TiVo back and explained. They said Verizon was wrong and suggested I call Verizon back. I did. Same story. By this time, I'm pretty much siding with Verizon on this issue, because TiVo'd been failing me big time. Who, in their right mind, would think that it may not be the box?

After calling TiVo again, it was suggested that we call Verizon together. We were on hold waiting for the CableCARD department to pick up, when I was told by the TiVo CSR that he couldn't wait any longer; their policy was to only hold with cable companies for a maximum of 5 minutes.

It was now just passed 7 o'clock. TiVo support was closing for the day. I had placed my first call to TiVo at 2:30. This fruitless process took nearly 5 hours and I was still without TV. I'd also had to stay home to receive the delivery from UPS, so I hand't left the house all day.

I called TiVo first thing this morning, requested a return, and cancelled service. I've been a TiVo subscriber since 09 and have suggested the service to others, but I was not going to spend another 5 minutes setting up yet another TiVo box. I will not be having another Premiere shipped and I no longer own the Series 3. It's back to the horrible Verizon box. At least it works. This was an awful and unfortunate experience I felt like sharing. Better luck to you.

Tivo HD HDMI port not working

I get no signal when hooking up my Tivo HD via HDMI cables. It worked in the past but since moving the unit to a different room the hdmi port is not working, I have tried different cables and no luck. If I wiggle the cable the pictures appears for a second.

Is there a DYI to replace the HDMI connector? If so where do I get the part.

If I need to send it out how much might it cost and wheer are some places that do the repair because I wish to keep the lifetime service I have on it.
