I have one DSR708 that never received the 6.4 update and so lost local channels a few weeks ago. I submitted the TSN over on the DirecTV forums but it still hadn't received the update after a couple weeks.
Lately, I have changed the dial-in number every other day to see if it made a difference, and yesterday the download took more than usual 15 seconds. I checked back over the next hour, but it eventually wound up with a "call interrupted" status.
I tried the call again, and this time it wound up taking over an hour but ended with "Failed while loading data". I restarted the unit (three thumbs down + enter) and tried another call but get the same results.
Any tips on what to try next would be greatly appreciated.
I got a series2 from ebay. Model number as above TCD649080. The seller says the HDD was upgraded using InstantCake (yes I'm familiar with the software, used it myself in the past on a different TiVo).
The problem I have is that the service number shown in Account Status does not match the one printed on the back of the box. I did a clear and delete everything twice, the service number in Account Status did not change, so it still doesn't match the printed one. And when I try to activate the TiVo box using the service number as shown in Account Status, the TiVo website says the number is invalid.
edit: doing a kickstart 52- doesn't work; the unit continues booting as if nothing happened, and at the end displays the same unmatching service number
kickstart 56 - reboots, gives a black screen, with "connecting to the server" then after a while "error: bad connection" (despite the TiVo being connected to my home network, and the network activity light blinks - and I've tested the connection by running guided setup, it connects and downloads guide data just fine) Then it just hangs there.

I moved from NYC to Hawaii, where unfortunately the tivo culture isn't that developed. In New York it was a blast but now...
I got the cable card + tuner through time warner. Disaster. Few channels supported by the card, not worth it. :(
I had to get a time warner cable box (no DVR), and I still have my Tivo lying around.
Can I connect the time warner cable box to the tivo, so that I can record something? The box is a receiver, so theoretically it should be able to pass the signal to the tivo, which in return can record?

I started using the NetFlix app after joining Netflix while I was in the hospital.
Out of the 6 or 10 times I have used it, the app caused the Tivo Premier XL to reboot.
Tonight, when I selected Netflix. the Netflix screen did not come up and it just rebooted.
Any idea what could be causing this?
Also, the app is very slow...
I recently hooked up a 15db Motorolla Signal Amp that I purchased on Amazon in order to fix ongoing pixelation issues on my Tivo XL.
In the first 2 days since installing the signal amp, the cablecard has unbinded from the tivo several times. Am I doing something wrong...the signal amp is bi-directional, so if the cablecard should be able to talk to cablevision no problem.
Could the amp be too powerful?
I called cablevision (didn't tell them about the amp) and they rebinded it no problem
Anyone have any advice?
I couldn't download the new TiVo for tablets file because it said it was incompatible. I found this online and it was ripped from play store. I installed it on my touchpad running android and it runs great. No closes and both premieres detected. Works REALLY well on cm9.

Am I the only one with this problem?
I can reboot the TiVo, and then I am able to ping it, connect to the web interface, use KTTMG, and use the Android apps with the Premiere.
But in less than 24 hours, I lose all incoming connections to the Premiere. No ping response, no tablet/phone access, etc. The TiVo still operates normally- can still see TiVo's servers, can talk with PyTiVo running on my Linux desktop, and shows no network errors. Same IP address, same network, nothing wrong with my router, no problems with any other device (and no, I am not connected using stupid wifi).
I am not sure I understand what is going on. I don't remember this being a problem in the past, but it seems like the TiVo is just shutting down all incoming ports after a [short] while.
My TCD540040 freezes shortly after I restart. I think it's a hard drive failure or not please tell me so. I want to replace the hard drive to fix the problem and would a Western Digital Performer Tivo 60GB 5400 RPM ATA IDE hard drive WD600AW-00DDK1 work in my TiVo if I flash the image to it? Thanks!
I don't see any dates in thread replies. So, I've no idea how old a message might be and could be quoting and replying to someone's message that is years old.
Is there any way to turn on dates for thread messages/replies?
I am running PyTivo on WIN7 64Bit Home Premium. I can get it working as a command window and it works well, except the darn window is always open on the launch bar.
Is there anyway to run this as a Service instead of a command window?

OK, this morning I realized that Comcast had added HD channels to our channel lineup which is included in our HD package so I went into settings and added a check mark to those new channels, I then did an online update to get the guide to update. I still do not see any guide info, either online from my TIVO account listing, nor on the premiere unit either, I do have a cable card and the channels do come in, it has been about 1 1/2 hours now, still says no guide info, is this normal ?? I know with my series 2 unit, it says housekeeping when I am updating channels, this unit does not say that, so I am not sure it is updating or not. I can always manually record a show my wife wants for now, but just want to make sure it will populate sooner or later, any info on this would be greatly appreciated TIA ;)
Short version: Humax, too old for WiFi, can't connect by phone, need newer TiVo software.
Complete version: I have a fairly old-model Humax TiVo with DVD (series 2 with 40 GB drive) that we bought on sale 2-3 years ago but only just got around to buying service for. When we hooked it up and tried to connect to TiVo, we were unsuccessful, either through the phone line or over the network. We talked to TiVo support, and it became gradually clear that the problem is twofold: We can't connect over the network because the TiVo software on our unit is too old to know how to use WiFi (even a TiVo-branded WiFi adapter), and we can't connect over the phone because the toll-free numbers and many local numbers no longer work in Canada. I've taken the drive out and hooked it up to an old PC and have managed to boot with the WeaKnees MFSTool CD, so I've got the hardware configuration worked out, and the Linux aspect of things is not a problem, but what I still don't have access to is up-to-date TiVo software. I do have a perfectly fine and up-to-date Series 2 that connects just fine over the network.
So, what I need to know is this: How can I get updated TiVo software onto my Humax unit using either my regular Series 2 unit or the internet? Can I use the MFSTool CD and just copy everything over from my Series 2 drive? Does InstantCake have what's needed? Some other product? Somebody who just happens to have an appropriate .iso image they can link me to? I have read through a lot of stuff, but I'm not at all clear on issues like compatibility and whether things like InstantCake have enough of what's needed--I don't want to go through an extensive update of the drive from the Humax unit to find it still doesn't have what it needs to connect to TiVo.

Do I have to manually remove one at a time all the SD channels from my channel lineup that have HD counterparts so that I don't have to see SD channels in my search results? It would be nice if I could tell the Tivo to only show HD results in my searches. Or if Tivo could remove all SD channels with a single click that had HD counter parts.
Just yesterday the installer showed up and replaced my two Hughes HDVR2's with two new THR22-100's. They replaced the old 18" oval dish with a new 24" Slimline 3.
The HDVR2's have been in use since 2003. Basicly I got tired of repairing them, the hardware was terrible, the Series 2 TiVo software was great. In 2007 I added a TiVo HD (Series 3) and high gain UHF rooftop antenna to my main TV, to allow me to DVR the literally dozens of digital OTA channels in the SF Bay area. I frequently find that the subchannels contain more compelling content than the main HD channel, which is all that DirecTV supplies via the dish.
So far, so good. The two THR22's took overnight to acquire enough program listings to allow me to enter 2/3rds of my Season Passes. The other third cannot be entered because they are between seasons and do not exist in the program listing, which is a tad annoying.
IMHO the THR22 is an odd amalgum of Series 2/Series 3 features, along with a few unique features. They are the first TiVo's I've had with a visible disk capacity indicator, for example, which I like. (My TiVo HD has not had an update in a long time, and is lagging pretty far behind the Premiere models.)
I don't really care for the bright blue LEDs on the front panel, and setting the display to "dim" hardly made any difference.
Nope, mine is not overheating. The one in the closed wooden equipment cabinet with cooling slots on the back is running at 49C and says "Normal".
The image is great on the dozen or so channels I actually use a lot that are now in HD. I have the old Total Choice Plus package with local channels - not that I need the locals, but they were part of the bundle.
So far, I'm pleased with the upgrade. It's costing me another $5/month, and $343 for the new equipment.
