So over the past few weeks, Charter Cable in Long Beach, CA (and I'm sure the whole greater LA region) has added several new HD channels. And of course, our Tivo premiere has notified us of the update and added the channels to the guide. And we're pretty happy about it, because Charter has long starved us of a good HD selection - and we had Fios where we used to live.
However, about 1/3 of the channels that were added to the program guide, when you select them, give you a black screen and/or an error message that the channel isn't available. I checked with Charter's website, and found that their pamphlet of the latest channels don't include the 9 "blank" HD channels still showing on my guide. So I explained the situation to the tech support chat on their website, who responded that their service does not feature these channels in HD. After pressing further, I found that she was simply looking the same online pamphlet that I just saw and relayed me the information. I asked her if these new channels were in the pipeline, and if that's why they were added to the guide. She said she didn't know, but would escalate the question.
So my question for the insightful users here is... Surely there must be a reason why these were added to the guide? TiVo doesn't just make these things up (the Charter tech, for a second, tried to claim it was an error on TiVo's end)... Is it likely that these channels were added to the guide, per Charter, inadvertently before they were made available in the line-up? Whatever take on this that can offered by others here, I'd really appreciate it!
And just in case that any other Charter / Tivo subscribers in my area happen to check here for this problem, here are the channels in question:
656 - Cooking Channel
657 - DIY
658 - says "Dest HD" but shows an icon for "Planet Green HD"
659 - We HD
660 - Biography HD
661 - H2 HD
662 - Investigation Discovery HD
726 - Hub HD
741 - Own HD
These were all added within the last 3 weeks, most recently two days ago.
Zatz - What are you doing???? I remember the feeding frenzy 2 years ago with all the speculation for the TIVO Premiere.
i guess it is time for the feeding frenzy to start up again.
2013 TIVO HArdware thoughts .... anyone .... Now taking bets.
There are only a half-dozen or so shows that my wife is interested in watching, so I watch those with her (Good Wife, Grey's Anatomy, Private Practice, Blue Bloods, In Plain Sight (now over), and a couple of others I can't think of).
Last night when we finished watching the latest episode of Private Practice, she said "You know what? I don't want to watch this show any more. They just make the same mistakes over and over."
I verified that she really wanted me to delete the SP, and she did. So I did.
And now I'm free!

A few days ago I lost a bunch of recorded shows. I was watching a web video downloaded through a "season pass", after it finished, I was prompted to delete it, which I did. Then the menu backed out to a folder saying there is no more shows in the folder. Then I went back to my now playing list, and noticed my disk usage went down from ~65% to 24%. I looked around, and all shows that were marked with a yellow dot had been deleted, as well as all suggestions. I rebooted it, thinking it might be an indexing glitch, but after reboot, and waiting overnight, the shows remained gone.
I don't know if this was triggered by me deleting the web video. I watched another web video earlier. It had a few more episodes stored in a folder. When I was prompted to delete one episode after finished watching, I was backed out to the folder view, also saying there was no other episodes in the folder, while in fact the folder shouldn't have been empty. This raised my suspicion of indexing issue.
Not sure what I can do. This kinda sucks. I had whole season of a couple shows that I hadn't gotten around to watch, now they are all gone
PS, have not gotten 22.214.171.124, still on the previous SW
Well I bought a Samsung Glaxy Tab 2 7.0 and thought I would comment about it and TiVo's android app. I am not a smart phone person (my only cell phone is a pay as you go tracfone) and have only used 1 other tablet a 7' blackberry.
I went for the Tab 2 over other low cost 7" tablet like the Kindle fire or Nook tablet because it had more features and because I am not tied to Amazon or Barnes & Noble. The Tab 2 is lighter and faster than the blackberry and seems like a nice device that I believe most people would like, however I am generally disappointed and likely will just concede that I pretty much waisted $240 on a toy I likely will not use much.
TiVo's Android app works well on the Tab 2 it found my TiVos and worked well as long as I had a solid WiFi connection. I really don't see the use of the app as it is much easier to pick up either my Logitech or TiVo remotes. I had hoped the Tab 2 could be setup and used like my Logitech remote unfortunately the Samsung remote app for the IR Blaster isn't advanced enough to be used with my setup and Logitech doesn't make an app at all.
I have very limited uses for a tablet but thought given that this one has an IR Blaster, dual cameras, and runs the latest version of Android that I might find it useful - I was wrong. To sum it up:
- TiVo's android app works but is disappointing
- The IR Blaster works but the Samsung app is disappointing
- Surfing the web on a 7" tablet doesn't work for me.
- Hulu+ has an app but says the Tab 2 isn't s supported device.
I might just give this to a nephew who has moved away at least he can use it with Skype to video conference with us.
OK, so I am probably being lazy here but does anyone know if Charter Communications offers a cable card for the Tivo Premiere box. Right now I am only using it for OTA channels.
The main cable companies that I hear about are Verizon and Comcast, neither offered in my area.
Thanks in advance
I have the 10 episodes of Missing sitting on my Tivo and I'm trying to decide if I should watch it. Without giving anything specific about the show away, can you tell me if the main story line wraps itself up by the end of the season?
I really don't want to waste 7.5 hours watching a show that going to be open ended and is already cancelled. I don't need every single little thread tied up completely but I really don't want to bother if the main plot line remains unresolved by the end of the season/series.
We watched House for years, but gave up on it quite awhile ago. Trying to decide whether or not to invest the time to catch the series ending episode.
If I make a backup of the disk in my new Premiere can I then restore that to the HDD in my HD XL and use it in my Premiere? I haven't opened the Premiere up yet but I just wanted to ensure all the drive specs were the same before doing anything.
How long until the embezzlement blows up in Lane's face? Will they resolve it this year or will it be next? Will it take his marriage down with him?
Great to see Don and Joan have a little time together, I don't think we have ever really gotten them interacting before. Love that Joan really knows the level of charm Don has and that Don really has no idea how charming he is. Loved the line, "I guess you can tell them I struck out." "No one will believe that".
Joan, who would want a single mother with an infant? Roger.
Was Peggy in this episode at all?
I'm wondering if it's possible to watch recordings from one Tivo Premiere (Life) on another Tivo (not subscribed to any service) over a hard wired LAN?
WITHOUT copying/transferring the files = direct playback from the main one to the other.
I've played with some other network connections and had some success, so I think it's likely possible - but just checking.
Our current, 2nd Tivo lives only as a cable box (w/cablecard) - it would be nice to add hassle free playback to it if this is possible (and the cabling is run to implement it).
