So far, so good.
Had the Tivo HD for 4.5 years, it served me well. I didn't necessarily see a huge bonus in updating, but I gave it a shot because there seemed to be some benefits.
The HD menus are nice. I don't find the box overly slow to respond or clunky. It could be snappier, sure, but it's perfectly standard as-is.
Nice having four tuners. Very nice.
I miss the old Youtube and Netflix apps. The new ones ARE slow and difficult to navigate. I also would rather the Netflix app buffer for 4-5 seconds instead of starting right away with horrible quality video and then gradually getting better. It's an annoyance.
The free space indicator is nice, but I always used suggestions for that anyway and so it's not necessarily a new thing, just presented better.
Oddly enough, closed captioning seems to work a lot better on the Premiere -- it is synced better and is better formatted. I do use that occasionally, so it's a nice bonus.
I was not able to get the season passes moved over via tivo.com which I thought I should be able to, but perhaps that a Premiere-only feature.
Having to buy a Tivo Stream to wirelessly beam shows to my devices is a non-starter. Why would I pay $150 just for that?
Overall, a nice box. Hopefully the software updates continue to refine the box and improve some of the irks.
My two TiVo Premieres will "see" each other on my wireless network, showing each other's names in their My Shows lists -- BUT, they will not show the content of each other's My Shows lists.
Selecting the "other" TiVo under My Shows, in each case, results in the following message: "The [other] DVR's My Shows could not be displayed because of a network problem. Press LEFT to return to the My Shows list."
My TiVo Desktop will show the content of each, and all other aspects of the network work fine. Successful streams from YouTube indicate Internet connectivity.
No combination of network component re-boots or service reconnects has helped, all performed under the guidance of a support technician, by phone.
Since there was a software upgrade, recently (I cannot remember the exact date), I am beginning to think that there is a problem with the new version.
Anyone else experiencing this sort of issue?
I have an original unmodified working TiVo which has given years of good service, for sale. There are nine currently on eBay so I have no idea of what to price it it. Can anybody on here help me out?
Set up my harmony 650 to my Tivo premier for the first time. Went ok. I used My harmony instead of logitech software. Any limitations using this I should know about? It seems my harmony offers less customization's, for instance I seem to have lost ability to turn off back up assistant.
When setting up harmony, I chose premier remote as remote. I was able to teach it missing "list" function because I had an old Directv remote hanging around. From default config: the obvious changes that needed to be made were assigning exit as zoom, and menu as Tivo, to get Remote resembling normal. Next I was able to reclaim the green @ return buttons as they did nothing. I assigned a button as a 7 press 30 skip button as a macro to skip commercials and assigned another macro someone posted "SE-PL_SE-9-SE to display clock.
Any one have any tips for other tweaking/macros? I like the harmony 650, it seems every bit as responsive as my blutooth slide remote. I have two rooms conected to the Tivo. Now I can keep the slide remote in the second far off room and keep the harmony in the TV room with the Tivo.
I don't understand something. The Tivo site makes reference to being able to burn DVDs of Tivo content and Blu Ray discs (except for certain protected content). Also, there are many sites that talk about converting Tivo shows on your computer (in my case a Mac) into Quicktime or some other format using a software like iTivo.
What is the Tivo Desktop Plus License Key for? The site makes reference to using it on portable devices to watch Tivo content. But if you can burn a DVD or Blu Ray that nukes any encryption so who needs the license key?
Is the purpose of the key to allow you to copy and watch PROTECTED content on your portable device? If so, does this mean you can convert many shows for use on your device if the content is not protected?
Dazed and Confused....My apologies..this should have been posted under Help.
I happened across this show tonight, and what a train wreck on this particular episode!!
I saw about two or three episodes previously, but was intrigued to see how this would turn out.
Howie and his crew picked a lonely female teacher who had a crush on a fellow male teacher. The entire episode was cringe-inducing and did not culminate in the typical "happy ending".
I felt that there were scenes which were pretty obviously re-shot (ie, "staged") and edited together to keep the story flowing. e.g., the lady would be getting emotional, then a quick commercial break to return to her now with the courage and composure to say something direct.
Anybody else catch this episode and feel the same about the editing?
(p.s. I initially thought the guy would turn out to be gay, but there is no evidence to confirm that suspicion.)
i have a lifetime series 2 that i need to keep connected for multi service discount. i have a new 'N' router which i want to use wpa security, but the current D Link wireless adapter on the series 2 only works with wep. i do have an ethernet cable in the room with the series 2, so i bought a usb to ethernet adapter, but the network setting says its not supported. is there a way to get this adapter to work, or is there only a few that do? tivo support says usb to ethernet for series 2 tivos is not supported (ironically, tivo sells them). also, the room where the S2 is in is far from the router, and the cable would be a much better network connection if i can get it to work. the box only needs to call in once or twice a month to show its still working.
I've connected my Tivo Series 2 to DirectvDVR HD box and a new flatscreen tv.
When I viewed my menu of previously recorded Tivo programs they will not play, only a message with two options: 1.) Keep this Program or 2.) Delete.
Any new programs record, but when I go to play, I receive the same options.
I can view the guide, use Tivo2go, and other options, but I cannot get TIVO to play. My tivo remote input button changes settings correctly too.
My hookup is Satellite box to TIVO using RCA cables red/yellow/white connections. COAX from my TIVO to the new flat screen.
I could careless if my DirectTV DVR works, but I depend on my TIVO and tivo2go for teaching. Any helpful suggestions appreciated.
I received a Stream for Christmas, and wanted to use it on my Tivo Premier XL, but since I cannot hard-wire the Premier to my router, bought the ActionTec kit.
Question I have is where does the Stream go when using the Moca connection? It's not very clear on the Moca setup guide at Tivo.com. They advise how to set up the network, but don't show where to put the Stream.
I'm usually pretty good at this, but for some reason am not sure exactly where it (the Stream) needs to go. Tivo should improve their diagram so as to make it more clear for some of us.
Thanks for your help!
Cox in our area just quit carring CBS! They say they ar being charged to much by the local affiliate?? Crazy Cox Cable co. I guess it's time for satellite for us. And no more TiVo bummer.
Oprah's Next Chapter airs its Letterman interview on Sunday, January 6 at 9/8c on OWN.
With video excerpts:
When I looked for the show in the schedule I saw that Oprah also interviewed Steven Spielberg and Stephen Colbert.
This is the version of pytivo I am using. It is pyTivo-wmcbrine-2009.03.19-RC1. Are their a newer version?
I have added 21 updates the last I believe was in Aug 2011. I do not have the names has I mistakenly erased the hard that they on. I only has number now.
I have been trying to get my new Actiontec MoCA adapters to work and it just dawned on me that my cable modem and my cable TV are on separate lines. Which means they won't work together. Since my whole point here was to try to avoid rewiring my house in any way, shape or form --- what the heck am I supposed to do now? And bear in mind that I am not any sort of electrician or wiring expert. I have a Premier 4 in one room and a Premier in another and neither one is in the same room as my modem/router. Am I doomed to go back to my powerline adapters? Thanks.
New user to Premiere XL4. When I am looking at the guide menu and the preview window is showing in upper right corner, all is normal....BUT when I choose a program to record the screen quickly jumps to full screen and then back to the preview window--takes just enough time to miss a few words of the program showing in the window. Is there a way to make the record just register the check marks and not have that annoying screen change? Hope I explained it right. TIA
Please help! :)
I just purchased the upgraded TiVo desktop so that I can transfer TiVo recordings to my iPad (which was the reason that I wanted TiVo in the first place), but have not been able to do so.
I successfully transferred the recordings to my PC and then followed the instructions to convert the files into those suitable for an iPad. I see them in a folder on my computer labeled "Recordings for portables" and they are in the MPEG-4 format. However, I cannot get these files into my iTunes library or onto my iPad. I try dragging and dropping the files into iTunes and nothing happens. I try manually adding the files within iTunes and nothing happens. I don't receive error messages - the recordings simply aren't added into my iTunes library.
I spoke to a TiVo technician via chat, who was unable to help me (she said that the recordings should automatically appear in iTunes once converted). She encouraged me to to contact iTunes, which I did. However, they said that they were unable to help me. I have Googled this extensively, and found nothing helpful. I tried changing the files names of the MPEG-4 files (to eliminate special characters) and that didn't work either.
Please help me! The only reason that I purchased TiVo and spent the extra $24.95 to upgrade TiVo Desktop was so that I could put purchases on my iPad. I am very frustrated and disappointed that I'm having so many problems with this.
I got a new Tivo Premiere XL4 and it restarts on its own, randomly as far as I can tell, at least once a day. I notice it once a day anyway. It could be happening more.
Can anyone give me an idea as to what the problem might be and if there is a fix? I know I could return it but I'd rather not if I don't have to.
I saw an older thread on this topic that seemed to be related to an update causing the restarts. My XL4 is newer and up to date on updates. Also, I have another not-quite-as-new XL4 that doesn't do this.
Also, the internet connection is good and working, so I don't think a problem with the connection is causing the reboots. An HD tivo was using that same connection for years and didn't have that problem.
Hi! Just joined, never posted before. I've been using Tivo since 2001. I currently have a TivoHD as my main machine. I had a Tivo Expander for a few months, but I guess it died as I could no longer boot up my Tivo. So I disconnected it (Lost all my new shows, boo) and now since I'm having reboot issues, I'm thinking it's the hard drive, and thinking of getting a new one, with higher capacity. So before I do that, I want to transfer my saved shows onto the computer. It took 1 and 1/2 hours to transfer 1 hour of an HD show. Is this normal? Is it faster using a Premiere? That would be my other option, to just get a Premiere rather than a new hard drive on the TivoHD. I also have a Humax DVD Tivo and use the Multi Room Viewing, would I no longer be able to do that if I got the Premiere? Thanks for any help!
I have 2 S3 (oled 648250B), one works, one not; both have lifetime.
I tried swapping the HD and PS, still only the single LED.
So guessing it's the last part, the motherboard.
Unless someone else has any other ideas ??
If I buy a ebay/craigslist S3 to swap parts can I retain my lifetime ?
Unless I misunderstand, my TIVO is always buffering about 30 minutes of data even when I am watching live.
- Is it true that my TIVO is always buffering ?
- Can I turn that feature off when I want to ?
According to the Google study, there is a positive correlation between hard drive usage and drive failure (highly dependent on drive age). I have no reason to live buffer shows like, e.g. Seinfeld, so I could save some wear and tear if I could turn time shifting off. I use my TIVO as my only source of HD (I have no set top box), so I watch shows live using the TIVO tuner very often.
