I have attempted to transfer (MRV) the THX Optimizer Video from the Elite to the Premiere, and get an error message, The THX Optimizer Video does not show that it has copy restrictions, and the transfer is available as an option. Has anyone had luck transferring it to a Premiere?
Hi all. I've never had Tivo. I'm trying to figure out which used Tivo with a lifetime plan is best for me. I'm hoping to get one in time for the Olympics.
I have Comcast cable (no box, no HD, very basic service) and an old-ish CRT TV. I've read some warnings on this forum about buying a used Tivo with lifetime service, but any more tips would be appreciated.
My budget is kind of tight and I'm thinking I should get an S2, I guess. Can you suggest specific models that would be good? Or ones I should avoid? And if they are that old are the risks with getting screwed on the lifetime service not much of a risk?
Does the ITivo software for the mac work with the directtv tiro? Thanks for your support...
I've had a TiVo Premier for a year with no problems. But recently it started having the audio dropout problem on playback that many others have posted about for years, over many different TiVo models. You can do the 8-sec rewind and hear the audio correctly so it's not a problem with recording.
The threads I saw seemed to suggest the problem was either Dolby output or a failing HD. I switched the output to PCM but the problem remains. I haven't tried replacing the HD yet; have others done this, and does it fix the audio dropouts? The only other thing I've tried so far is restarting the TiVo but that didn't do anything.
It states to leave the recorder plugged in and connected to the phone line while it attempts to repair itself. Do not unplug or restart the recorder, call CC after 3 hours.
I had applied the slices to this unit since I lost the locals on it with the recent upgrade by Directv. The phone line was/is not plugged in but I had tried it with and without since I got this message with no luck past these screen which is green a color I had not seen on the directivo with a error message.
I had rebooted this directivo before this had happened without any problem but apparently this am there was a power outage and this has caused this problem on this directivo. My other units are a R10 and a HR24 which of course do not have this problem.
Not sure what else to do. I had my units (2 or them) hacked for the ability to transfer recordings to each other or to my pc and when I had problems with pixelation and then finally the 6.4 upgrade knocked out local channels I replaced one with the HR24.
Not sure what to try next. Any suggestions would be appreciated.
Hi New to tivo forums. A few weeks ago I retired my old Directv Tivo and upgraded to the new THR-22 HD tivo. There are a few problems one is it will not dial in and another is it keeps recording enhanced content. My question is what is the enhanced content it is downloading a couple of times a day? Nothing shows up in the now playing. It is always on channel 9981 when it does this. Today a directv technician came out and replaced my tivo with a new one. It has the same issue's as the old one. So I am thinking it is the software version 018A. Is there an update? Driectv says nothing they can do it is tivos problem.

MeTV appears to be running an Andy Griffith tribute today. This is not reflected in the schedule so (at least on my TiVos), so if you have SPs for anything, the TiVo will think that it recorded the originally scheduled episode.
Update: As of 3PM, they appear to back on their normal schedule.
Exceedingly frustrated by my two Series 3 units not being able to connect to the Tivo network. Both units were connected fine until about three weeks ago. Repeated efforts to reconnect, including multiple calls to Tivo tech support have borne no fruit.
Both units use the Tivo wireless G adapter, although I also have an N adapter, which I am not using because I would like to sell it along with a Premiere I have in storage.
I have done the usual troubleshooting. All required ports are open. Port testing works on both units. The quick connect to the network also works, just not the full one. I also have power cycled all equipment numerous times--no dice.
The only issue I can think of at this point is my chosen form of internet access: a T-Mobile Rocket laptop stick that is connected to my Cradlepoint router. I don't see, however, why this should be an issue, given that both Tivos have connected in the past despite the intermittent speed of 4G service, which in any case is rarely below the 1.5MB threshold.
Help and thoughts appreciated.

So I hopped back from UVerse back to Tivo and snagged a new 4XL.
I have UFC 148 this weekend and I'm trying to make sure I'm ready to order the PPV. I tried a test run of ordering PPV on channel 1650 (HD PPV) and the channel kept giving the 'This channel is not available with your tuning adapter.) The help tech from Time-Warner cable (I'm in Austin TX) said that PPV doesn't work with cable cards. He was very clear on this, and insisted it was the case, despite all evidence I can find online to the contrary. Is he right? Is there no way to order PPV (not On Demand) from Time-Warner in Austin?
The history channel does not have much history on it anymore and most of there shows are realty tv shows. What happened to all the good shows they use to have?

I might be better off selling on Ebay since my area has Comcast ondemand for S4 tivo only. Indeed this is the reason I myself upgraded to S4 XL4. FIOS users may still wan't this box though and of coarse Box is fully functional without paying for cable. Tivo lifetime sub. includes channel guide/ recording for local channels with OTA antenna + web video downloads Pandora ect.. with an internet connection.
This is the best S3 version with OLED display. Other advantages I can think of off the top of my head that make this better than the other S3 HD version include:
*faster transfer of shows to tivo with Tivo to go app on your PC
*compatible with a wider range of E-sata external hardrives.
I will include stock 250 GB drive as back up. Internal drive is 1.5 TB WD EARS I installed myself after buying new May of last year so drive is barely a year old. Here is link to upgrade harddrive thread page # 254 post#7612 proving the 1 year old date I installed drive.
I will also help you put the Tivo onto your own tivo account if you want. This would be in your advantage if you don't currently have any Tivo subsciptions and you ever decide to buy lifetime service in the future you'll be eligible for multi service discount. = $400 for future lifetime box instead of $500
Should the 1.5 TB drive fail in the future you can save yourself some $ by doing the following: use the included 250 GB drive to copy the tivo image from it onto your PC and transfer that image onto a new hardrive you buy yourself at any store. Note you will need the image off of included stock drive in order to do this. Otherwise you will need to buy a special hardrive that someone has prepared with an image for you at much greater cost. The directions for imaging your own drive can be found on page 1 of thread I link to above.
When using Tivo Decoder GUI and Tivo Premiere Elite unit and Tivo Desktop Software my problem is when I click Decode
Instantly I receive an error from windows stating this program is not responding then it says tivodecode.exe has stopped working, Close Program.
Have I set something up wrong?! There is a file in the output folder with 0 bytes so its at least working for a second!

Are you using a TiVo Premiere and TiVo Desktop to transfer the video to your PC? I recently purchased a TiVo Premiere and have discovered an incompatibility with TiVo Decoder. If you are using a TiVo Premiere, then you have to uncheck the Use the fastest method available for file transfer speed in TiVo Desktop when transferring video from your TiVo Premiere to your PC.
If you have it checked then TiVo Decoder will abort with an error when attempting to convert the TiVo file to a standard MPEG2 file. If you have it unchecked then TiVo Decoder will be able to process the TiVo file.
Cablevision recently switched from scientific Atlanta set boxes to Samsung model SMT-C5320. For a week now i've beentrying to get her hooked up again but am having a hard time with the ir sensors. I have gotten thru the reset of system and have had the channels actually change during the setup tests but once i go "live", unable to change channels. Wondering where exactly the Ir sensor is on the new box(cablevision wont give me an answer) &if anyone else is having similar problems. Thanks
This is getting frustrating and I cannot figure out the problem. My conclusion, however, is that the problem is Tivo-related, NOT TV or cable related...
Sometimes one tuner won't recognize channels and you just have a black screen and the little Tivo banner that says the channel is not authorized.
It doesn't matter WHAT channel that tuner is on. It seems to be about a tuner thing. Both Tivos do this sometimes, each of which is hooked up to a different tv.
It often resolves itself but meanwhile, if something is recording you don't get the content. If you are watching live you don't get the content. Sometimes I've had to restart the Tivo and then it's fine again.
I don't think I should have to do that and it really pisses me off when these Premieres are only a few months old and my TVs and all connections are in good order. It's NOT about any kind of cable downage. It's very specifically about one tuner not working right sometimes.
Any ideas if there is a way to make this stop? TIA

My condo recently installed a Wi-Fi network that is available free to all residents. I decided to save my self mt monthly$50 donation to Time Warner Cable and try to get my TiVos connected.
TiVo Help was pretty helpful insomuch as they told me to call the IP provider of the folks who installed the network and give them the MAC addresses of my units and adapters. Surprisingly, everything went very smooth and I am now connected. Here are my questions:
My Series 2 with an older G adapter showed the same MAC address for both the adapter and the box. My Premiere showed a different address for the box and for the newer N adapter. The IP people didn't seem to care about the N wireless adapter but "saw" the TiVo MAC address trying to access the network. Why 2 different address for the Premiere?
Also, the IP folks told me that I would not have to use a password and that they would not set an "expiration date" allowing my TiVos to remain connected to the network. (Their first question was what hotel are you staying at? They were finally were able to find my condo association's name.)
When I tested the connection on speedtest.net, the download speed was 1.44 Mbps with an upload speed of 1.34 Mbps. The IP people said that I would probably not be able to stream Netflix. Anything I can do to increase my connection speed, or am I stuck with what I have? How much bandwidth will I use (or need)? Obviously my Series 2 connects only once per day, but the Premiere..excuse me Series 4, is constantly connected when using HD menus. Both appear to be running fine for now. I was wondering how my Series 4 will be affected when more people access a network that is so slow.
Very easy fix...
Grab a flash light and slide from left to right (2 passes) about a 1" or so from the front of your Tivo box.
This resets IR sensors ... works like a charm!
