I have noticed that certain channels that output digital sound (presumably Dolby Digital) cause my preamp to jump into a different mode (THX Ultra2) in which I can't hear the Tivo sound effects (bings and bongs). The sounds don't seem to come back until I get to a channel or screen that jumps back to the default mode (ProLogic IIX Movie Mode in my case).
I assume this is normal and unavoidable. I take it that the bings and bongs just aren't added into the digital feed? Anyway have a work around (not that it's a huge deal)?
Is there any way of finding out if an older TiVo Gray Peanut Remote would work with a newer Samsung HDTV without actually having it in hand and trying it?
I'm reluctant to buy an older TiVo unit if the remote won't even control power and volume on the TV.
Yes, I know it wouldn't be HD, but that's not an issue here.
I may switch back to DTV from Comcast. And I wanted to get the Tivo version. Does the DirecTv Tivo version have HD menus or is it an older Tivo Firmware that still uses SD menus?
Best line of the night:
Twenty years ago you had no power but you had balls. Now look at you. Selina: Yeah, now Ive got a dick and balls.
I hope the feud between Selena and FLOTUS becomes a running gag.
I also like her line to the preacher at the very end of the receiving line who likes to bake: "Christ has risen".
I couldn't quite tell if the girls in Hannah's office were messing with her or not. The eyebrows felt like they were playing a joke on her, but they seemed sincere when they were telling her what she should do about her terrible boyfriend.
The depiction of sexual harassment felt very much like the way it must happen frequently in everyday life all across America.
It felt like a real life situation when the boss told her to say something if the touching was something she didn't want and she still couldn't tell him to stop being a creep. She doesn't want to lose her job. It also felt reasonable when the women were telling her all the reasons they put up with his sexual harassment.
Similarly, Marnie isn't happy with Charlie, but can't bring herself to tear the band-aid off (or her limb) and just break up with him. It's easier to just go along with a crappy situation sometimes. At work or in a relationship. Same reason Hannah lets her b/f treat her like crap.
This looks to be a 3-part miniseries on Memorial Day Weekend. Interesting they got Bill Paxton and Kevin Costner for this but from the previews it looks really good.
Is it based on a book or just archive information about the feud?
I am interested in selling my Series 3 HD with lifetime service and the Tivo Wireless Adapter.
What's a realistic price to sell this for? And once I sell, how do I go about transferring the lifetime service to the buyer.
Please let me know. Thanks.
That church had some impressive production values.
I think it's safe to say the Uma Thurman experiment was a failure. The "Let Me Be Your Star" opening was painful both to watch and listen to (for once I agree with Ellis), and she descended into caricature and was simply not comfortable in this role. Katharine McPhee should be starring in that show, period, and it's encouraging that they've started the retooling process.
Clearly the Dev/Ivy thing is going to blow up at some point; honestly, I wish they'd explored this earlier, as it's so much better than the contrived Karen/Ivy tension we got for most of the season.
I think they're handling the Tom/Julia feud all wrong. The show was out of options and had to bring Michael back immediately, and my fear is that it'll take her most of next season to fully see it. Those two are also the most palatable relationship on the show, and I hate to see it at least partially derailed...particularly by something as stupid as another advance on Julia by Michael. What the hell are they thinking?
Thought Juliet was the strongest coming in, but Tony and Jermaine both outperformed her tonight imo. I really liked Tony tonight, and have him just edging out Jermaine. Juliet in 3rd and Chris a very distant 4th.
I've tried to transfer a show from my Premiere to my laptop and the total file is around 7210 MB. The file will only transfer as far as 2500 MB and stop the transfer. I tried the same thing to a desktop and can only get to 2500 MB.
I've also got a Series 3 and tried to transfer the same show to my laptop as well as a desktop and in both cases, the file stops transferring at 2500.
I've always been able to transfer files in the past and this it's driving me crazy that all of a sudden neither machine will allow the transfer beyone 2500 MB.
Has anyone heard of this happening before? Is there any solution to this?
I have been suffering from random reboots for several months. The Tivo became almost unusable because it would reboot 9-12 times per day and often cut off recordings.
I thought it was the hard drive so I replaced it. An hour after I replaced the hard drive, I got another reboot and then several more after that.
I know from when I used to use the Tivo wireless adapters that Tivo can be very sensitive when it comes to networking issues. I switched to MoCa several months ago (via Actiontec routers running in bridge mode). I haven't had a problem but I decided to unplug the ethernet cable from the back of the Tivo and see if I still had the reboot problem. It's been over 24 hours and I haven't had a single reboot. Something is happening with the network adapter that Tivo doesn't like. I'm going to swap it out with a different one and see if that fixes the problem. The reboots occur even when I am not actively pulling anything from the internet (I use Standard menus). For those of you still suffering from reboots, you may want to consider your internet connection as a possible problem.
It's about freakin' time!
I don't usually watch Reality TV, but I'll try this.
(from Discovery's press release, April 2012) Behind the America you know lies another world, where people live outside the law. For the new Discovery Channel series KURT SUTTER'S OUTLAW EMPIRES, premiering Monday, May 14 at 10PM ET/PT and produced by Studio Lambert and Sutterink for Discovery, Sons of Anarchy creator Kurt Sutter enters the realm of the gangs and families who have dominated our streets and helped shape our nation's history. Steered by Sutter's compelling insight, each episode of KURT SUTTER'S OUTLAW EMPIRES tells the complete story of an iconic American outlaw dynasty - directly from the mouths of people from the inside. Through their no-holds-barred accounts, the series takes an unvarnished look at moment-by-moment experiences that were not only pivotal for the organizations themselves, but life-changing for the individuals telling the stories.
It seems to be simply "Outlaw Empires" in the guide data.
Several years ago I had a TIVO on Direct TV and liked it much better than the DTV DVR Boxes at the time. I am not longer on DTV as have move onto Verizon Fios. I have used Sage TV with extenders but it has never been fully trouble free so I also have a Fios Motorola DVR to keep my wife happy. I still use Sage for my personal use though.
Recently I have been re-evaluating all my options and have considered moving to either MediaCenter & Xbox360 extenders or Possibly TIVO. The problem I have with TIVO is I hate paying monthly Sub of Rental fees for a guide and or the DVR. I am very interested in the new XL4 Tuner TIVO and the rumored New IP TV extender Boxes. But I would be totally against paying another Sub Fee for the extenders I would be willing to pay up to $150.00 apiece for the Boxes if they were fee free.
On the other hand I can completely build a Media Center Box for about 1/2 of the cost of a new xl4 tuner TIVO & and the Lifetime Sub. So once again I get stuck on the Tivo Sub fees ??
Edited: I already own a Silicon Dust HDHR(2 tuner clear Qam) & HDHR-Prime(3 tuner cable card) thus the cost difference between TIVO & MCE build.
Anyone have any experiences with this device? I have a TiVo Elite in one room and a Premiere in the other and sometimes the playback isn't as smooth as I want it to be. I am currently using it now with a TiVo Wireless G adapter.
The Netgear WNCE2001 seems like a good option. I am thinking about this for a coupe of reasons:
802.11n versus 802.11g speeds
USB Powered and doesn't have a power adapter like the Tivo Wireless N
Cheap $18-$25 on eBay versus $55 - $60
I guess the main reason is mostly not trying to have a lot of things plugged into the wall.
Anyone have any recent experiences with this? I saw this thread
but that is back in 2007.
What happened to this show? I know they ran 1 episode, but then it disappeared. Was that just a teaser episode, or was the show killed already?
I have not seen a thread about Touch - anyone enjoying it?
If I saw this series before seeing 24, there is no way I would watch Kiefer Sutherland (SP) ever again. I realize that its not fair to compare the two but Touch is a snoozefest (IMHO).
Most of the hour is spent whisper(YELLING) Jake, JaKE, JAKE.
Am I the only one who feels this way? Is this the new Ghost Whisperer?
Now that DirecTV is on friendly terms again with TiVo, that's good news but I'm thoroughly confused.
We are moving to a new home, and I would like to provide TiVo capabilities for both of two HD TVs in two rooms, with HD basic cable channels. But getting a clear answer from either DirecTV or Comcast on just what is needed or how much it costs is worse than pulling teeth.
I think the channel package would be Choice Xtra on DirecTV or "HD Preferred XF" on Comcast. But the sales reps on the phone are terribly confused (and thus confusing) about the specific costs and the features available when using TiVo-brand DVRs instead of their normal DVRs.
Any advice is welcomed ... but in particular:
- Do I buy a TiVo Premiere, or take whatever HD TiVo DirecTV gives me?
- Do I need two TiVo boxes to support two TVs?
- Sharing programs a la "Whole Home" is not supported in either DirecTV or Comcast, right?
- Does it make any sense (cheaper or better) to talk about one TV with TiVo and the other with the stock DVR?
Help, I'm bewildered!
Day 18... Have had Tivo since 2000 so I am pretty Tivo savy. Upgraded to 2 new Tivo premieres, 1 is XL4, after Tivo 3 HD froze. Since installing cable cards in the new Tivos I have been unable to get HBO on any of the channels. Called Comcast and had many technicians trouble shoot over the phone with no results. So far in the past 18 days I have made 23 phone calls, 5 tier 2 techs included, to Comcast and have had 5 different service techs in my house plus one supervisor. I have even returned the XL4 (premier elite) for a new one. Comcast finally has all channels including HBO working on the regular premier.
It gets worse... 4 days ago the XL4 has all channels black with no signal. Reran guided setup and got all channels back except HBO. 2 days ago lost all digital channels. Now I only receive NBC, CBS, ABC, FOX but no "extended basic" channels. 2 techs and a supervisor latter and still nothing. Tech just left after he had Comcast completely remove me as a customer and then add me as a new customer to wipe out all rate codes and the like and still only broadcast TV. TV upstairs still gets all channels just fine. I have gone through 6 cable cards including unpairing the one that works upstairs and repairing with the XL4 and no change. They say everything on their end is checking out fine. Only thing that is different since losing "extended basic" is that under the cable card menu under conditional access the Con used to say Yes and now is says No and the Val used to say V and now it says ?.
I live in the Chicagoland area. Does anyone else have cable cards that I can switch to and get rid of Comcast. Does AT&T?
Anyone else have this problem and know of a solution?
I'm having an odd issue. I have my TivoHD using OTA antenna and I get great signal, but when I watch the local CBS channel it begins to freeze and shudder. It will not allow me to do anyhting and i just have to wait it out, but on occasion it will freeze completely. I have tried a variable att. but it keeps doing it, I don't want to lower my signal too low to lose other channels, but even then it continues to do it. It is only on that channel and only since I changed antennas does it do it a lot. Before it would do it from time to time, but not as bad. It is still watchable, but is really annoying. I have avoided testing the HD since it is just on that channel. Is it possible that I need to filter something out to help?
